Here is a review and my thoughts on the water only method or as I like to call it rinsing. The rinsing method can work for ALL HAIR TYPES including those with the fine straight hair but the frequency of your washes may be different (more regular).

By all means, I encourage you to do your own research before you go out and try this method, hello, it's like-for how you it has been a very long day today, so excuse my shiny face. This is an impromptu video. Since my last video, where I went to the salon now, I had an email recently just really trying to understand this water only method. Again, I'm not an expert. I told the first time I heard of the water. Only method was actually by Rosemary Godwin she's on YouTube as well. I will link her channel in the description box. Shilling water, only method or rinsing, as I like to call - is basically not using any products in your hair, except for coconut oil. I have been recommended coconut oil by a professional hairdresser, so that is what I will be using if you're wondering what video I am talking about, I will, I suppose, put it here and also down in the description box. Basically, it is using only water to wash your hair and then using coconut oil as a conditioner to coat your hair. That is what the water only method is or rinsing as I like to call it. I also want to state that I'm new to this method, and I only sort of suppose this is about a month me being into it and I'm still very new to it and I'm still getting used to it now. For me, this is more of a lifestyle, because I'm washing my hair more regularly and I now rinse my hair on a weekly basis. Sometimes I will rinse my hair and twice a week and depending on how active I've been and how my scalp is feeling, I will even go in and do it three times a week, but it that's only happened once in on one occasion: the the theory behind This method - and I call it theory - I should really be calling a science, because it is a science, but I'm calling it fear II for those who are who are skeptical of this method and because of us as black people, how we have been trained to care For our hair, how we have studied our hair, what we've been doing to our hair, so this is very contradictory to everything that I personally I've learnt about my hair and what I should be doing. It goes against the loc method underneath our scalp. We have something called disobey, shish glands. Now this gland produces natural oils because of the nature of my hair in particular, or you know, kinkier and more textured hair types, these natural oils, which are which is called sebum. You can google that, but it's really good for your hair. It'S usually because of the nature of our hair, because it's so kinky and Kweli. It struggles to travel down the shaft of our head and reach the tips, leaving our hair feeling and looking and basically it's dry yeah. So what you're doing is you are you are then, when you rinse you, your hair, you are actually helping the sebum to travel down the shaft of your head, you're, massaging your scalp and with the water and everything you're, helping the sebum to travel down the shaft And your of the shaft of your hair and reach the tips and essentially moisturize your hair and that's moisturizing, your hair, naturally, without using any product whatsoever, the straighter your hair, the easier it is for this oil, this sebum to travel down the shaft of your hair, Because your hair is straight, it moves it just glides through. Hence why those of us or say of us not me, but those of you who have straighter hair, you need to shampoo your head. You will need to wash your hair more because the sebum travels easier through your hair and then you get excess of it because it's not it. It travels down easily and you need to remove some well. I was advising what I do is I use hot water. I don't you tap it water, lukewarm water, I certainly don't use cold water. I use hot water to rinse my hair and what the hotness does. Is it cleanses your scalp and when you're using this hot water, you can actually feel it. It feels so good. My head, my scalp loves it can't get enough of it. Anyways not complete hot, like boiling water, don't go and please don't go and use boiling water. Okay, it cleanses the scalp from any unnatural particles in your hair and just gets rid of all the gunk eNOS and all the nastiness, and it will just it will naturally just keep what is necessary. So I do once I've rinsed my scalp done. All of that intensively - and this is so quick because there's no product you're not using a shampoo you're, not using conditioner - it's such a quick process, it doesn't take ages, I den going with coconut oil. Now the coconut oil is more of a coating. So it's it's. What you would call a conditioner here, so I part my hair into and I take one side and I really really massage it into my hair. Maybe I need to do a video on what I actually do. If you want a video, give me a thumbs up and comment below, tell telling me that you want a video, not a talk-through, but a video of me actually doing this procedure, and I will do one for you. I do on both sides and then I leave that for about five to ten minutes, because again this is like a conditioner and leave that in for five to ten minutes, and then I rinse it out now I haven't checked out what other vloggers are doing in Terms of the coconut oil, but this is what I've been advised by a professional when you rinse that out what your hair does. Is it keeps the oil that is needed, so you won't have excess coconut oil in your hair. Some coconut oil will still be there. So it's not like you're washing out and it's gone completely. No, it just keeps what is necessary and then once I've done that I just go about with my day and I style my, and that is basically it. It is so so easy. What I love about this method now, although it feels like you're spending more time in your hair, because you're washing your hair more frequently because of the frequency you're, actually spending less time every time you go for a rinse, it doesn't take as long to wash your Hair because it's just a rinse and it it the only thing. I suppose that still takes long is the styling, and I think that can't be helped. If you like to style your hair - and you know, if you're like me and you like to have your hair in it's in a you - know a relatively stretched state, then that will still take time. That being said, I have noticed that I have reduced shedding. My hair feels significantly lighter and I actually have movements like I know you have you think you have what at least I thought I had movement with product in my hair, but I can feel the movement because it feels lighter the detangling process. Yes, the detangling process. I'Ve noticed is quicker because I don't know if it's, because I'm doing it more frequently or because there's less put, there's no product in my hair that I'm not fighting through product to get to my hair when I'm combing or finger combing or anything like that. It is just a lot quicker and easier, and it's less painful, because I'm quite tender-headed I haven't actually timed my styling, but that still takes long. So if you're, somebody like me and you're, not you're, not too keen on spending ages, styling your hair, I've just come to accept that it's something I cannot avoid. If I want to my natural hair and really enjoy its beauty, this is just something that I have to deal with. Personally, when I was using product, I was using it for free reasons, so it was to achieve shine to shake to try and soften my hair and also to just give it a general moisturize. And yes, I would moisturize my hair every other day and now I've come to realize that I don't need to do any of that. What they do is they just create gunk and they make my hair sticky and it makes my hair greasy and it attracts all the kind of fluff you can imagine like for now. I won't ever say never to using product, I'm I'm still new to it, and I really want to see how this goes, because this is basically a new hair journey. It is something that you wish to try. You will have to shampoo your hair first. Basically, you have to start fresh if you want to start on a good note. You have to start fresh, so you have to shampoo your hair, get rid of everything out of your hair and then cult it after you've done that do the hot water thing and must really massage your scalp, so that you can activate the sebaceous glands and get Those natural oils flowing then coat your hair with the coconut oil and rinse it out and then continue styling. Another thing I will say - and I want to advise you one - is that when you do the water only method and at least for me, things will get worse before it gets better. So you will experience dandruff dry, scalp yeah, because if you were like me, you have been coating, your hair and your scalp with unnatural products for years and by coating it your you haven't, allowed your scalp to breathe. Your scalp hasn't felt felt air like fresh air. In a really really long time, so once you do this, you may experience you or you may not experience dandruff. But if you do experience that you will have to use a cider vinegar to to cleanse your scalp and then just continue with your journey because it your your hair, will is not used to it because it's been doing something else for so long. So it's almost like going cold turkey a little bit the while it just kind of gets better. I don't have any dandruff at the moment, but I have experienced some time thinking. Maybe that phase has subsided and things are just getting better. Those of you who have arts questions. Thank you very much. I have done a snapshot. I haven't, you know, done extensive research. I mean I'm not a professional, but as this is my testimony, that's so far so good it is working but um. That'S about it. For now, I hope this video hasn't been all over the place and please don't forget to subscribe if you haven't subscribed already. Also, if you do have any other questions, comment below I'd love to know and tell me what is your hair care regime? Tell me: what are you doing it until my next video think smart work hard make it happen? Bye, look. I don't even have time to talk. I just have to go because Israel's liked it without me wait, say hello to the camera. First,

T-baby Yupressed: I’ve been using this method for 2 months and my hair is so much healthier and softer. My Hair is growing like crazy

Bianca: When our hair is in its most natural style, which is the afro, WE RETAIN MOISTURE. I use hot water and oil. That is all. And do it everyday. My hair grows fast that way. We need to stop stretching our hair. Wear the natural afro and your hair will grow. Going to bed wear a silk bonnet or scarf. Finished.

G_Vegan: I have been doing this method too and love it. It should be done daily when it is a true water wash method and you have to scritch the scalp to activate and cleanse the scalp. I can't wash it daily but I do it every 3 - 4 days and find that my hair is feeling so much better. Saving money and time on products and the whole washing process has been a blessing for me x Your hair is looking awesome x

Autumn432hz: I totally get it. My hair flourishes with simply rinsing once a week.

SisterCyber: Just a suggestion - something I do every 3 months is clean my hair with (Aztec) Bentonite Clay = it detoxifies the hair and deep-cleans it without stripping natural sebum it removes excessive sebum from scalp and shaft, leaves hair soft, revitalizes curls and is easy (like putting on relaxer except also put it on scalp, leave in to dry 30 minutes or so and rinse out. I like to leave mine in until it dries hard and I feel my scalp "throbbing" like the bentonite clay instructions say your skin should feel when it is working properly.

tee white: I have lived waking my hair with apple cider vinegar weekly, & if I want adding a cowash work just a conditioner, I do use Shea moisture ' smoothie, coconut oil & natural Shea butter to style tho but my scalp had been revived! I love it! the water only method sounds lovely yet so scary! your hair looks gorgeous btw!

Hey J whats next: Hi Love your videos!!!! I started the WOW method by watching wateronlyhairwash youtuber.....she said that coconut oil actually stops the sebum from coating the hair or slows it down. I use the coconut oil on dry ends to get me pass that dry phase until I get full sebum coverage. Then I stop using coconut oil all together. I was wondering what you or your hairdresser thinks about not using coconut oil after you get the full sebum coverage. Or do you still think I should use coconut oil once I get the full coverage and why? Thx for sharing your videos!!

사믹샤: also for anyone who wants to grow their hair super fast, hexane-free castor oil is great.

S. Israel: water only for 4c hair is amazing! but you can use your own heads oil called seabum. wash hair with medium hot water to loosen up the head oil and pull it down the strands of your hair. if your ends are still dry add a little oil on the tips. My hair is never bone dry when I water wash.

NiCole Sky: One of the best videos explaining WOW out of the many that I've seen!! Your detailed, clean & to the point explanation definitely helped me understand sebum & WOW process & steps. Thanks for the great info!!

Cole Rich: I literally love you! You're so funny and you don't even try but seriously I think we have very similar hair types so it's been great following your vids! Thank you for the very informative video! Will be trying this method my next wash! God Bless =)

Flowers Roses: Your hair is beautiful!   I do not use shampoo.  I water wash my hair 2-3 times weekly and dry twist my hair every night and love it. I have a lot of shrinkage and that is why I only water wash it 2-3 times a week. I have 4C HAIR, and MY HAIR DRIES OUT QUICKLY! My method is too to use my homemade oil mix the night before to oil my scalp and massage the oil from my scalp into my hair and wear a stocking cap and go to bed.        Then I get up in the morning and rinse it out!  I love this method and my hair is healthy now.  I have been water washing my hair since April 2015. I don't have dandruff because of my homemade essential oil mix. I lose very little hair. Thank you for your review.

Quanie: we gotta think about how us black women caree for our hair before the slavery days. they disnt use all these products. just oil and water.

MZ SISTA: Thank you for the video sis, I have been doing just water on grey thin hair for about two weeks no problems but very little sebum, it all good though, because I have used shampoos and other things and that was breaking my scalp out with little bumps and itching so i'm loving this so far..I pray this is the answer to my issue ...my hair has thin out due to all kind issues but I do recall my mother using coconut oil at times and or dixie peach basic is the key we have gotten so caught up into all these things that has brought on problems when water is the main key in cleaning our scalp so I am done with the mess of all these things to get me to buy stuff that GOD has already given us from the earth for our bodies period ....Have a blessed day side note they know we care about our whole body(hair) so we get caught up into these things that are not natural or healthy for us..

In active: The L~O~L method. Liquid( water) Oil (coconut) Liquid (water)

TheMsPhyl: Your hair looks great.  I usually have dry scalp, but with this method, I haven't experienced flaking or dryness because I water rinse daily. Occasionally, I may skip a day, buy never more than one day. My hair and scalp loves water. Also for me, after a month of water rinsing, I have eliminated all oils. Have a great journey.

Carine: Hello, thank you for sharing your experience, it's very interesting. As forme, I more or less follow the Cirly Girl method : no sulfates, no silicones, I use homemade linseed gel and I only put light oils on my ends. I wash every week using a diluted sulfate free shampoo and co-wash in between. I would be worried to use oils, especially heavier oils like coconut oil, on my hair, and not using (sulfate free) shampoo afterwards. I know vinegar is not as effective to remove oils/products. How often do you use vinegar? Have you considered linseed gel or aloe vera gel to seal your cuticules instead of coconut oil?

Jsmum: Everyone seems to get a bit of dandruff at some point in the no poo water only method. BUT, it does pass as does the over greasy situation. Your hair transitions and balances out.

Kay Brittany: Thanks for the video! I can relate to your journey so much!

Ayanna Gonzales: Im doing this for a week now and my hair feels lovely

angelic9889: I've been doing this most of my life without knowing what it was, because I have a bad chemical sensitivity. Conditioners are ok, but cleansers, shampoos, even some laundry detergents irritate my skin. I wash my hair about every 4 or 5 days. I rinse it with hot water and give it a good scalp massage. Then I condition my hair. I use a tiny bit of a light leave in (mostly for smell) then black castor oil to seal in the moisture. Once a month or 2 I use a light shampoo. There's no real point for me to do that, but I do it because I'm so paranoid about build up and smelling. So, once every month or 2 I wash using a light shampoo. Then I HAVE TO deep condition my hair that day. After dc-ing, I moisturize my hair with castor oil then rinse out the excess. If it still feels dry, I put a light leave in and more castor oil on damp hair and let it air dry in twists. A few years back I was convinced that I was doing it wrong. That all natural have to do the LOC method. I damn near ruined my hair! My scalp was so dry and irritated. I had build up... It was a mess! I finally went back to good ol' hot water and I'm soooo happy. My scalp is much cleaner and my hair is much healthier. I don't spend as much time or money either.

Imiebi Rose: Thanks for the shoutout sis, loving the fro. Looking forward to doing an update video on mines :)

Adora Howell: Your hair is amazing. I only put things in my hair that I can put in my mouth. I have only started my natural hair journey since may 2015. I started out using shea butter, coconut oil, castor oil n argan oil only. I tried using African Pride's Curl styling custard and it left residue in my hair. Didn't like that. Then i tried a cantu product n tho it made my hair super soft the place where i spot tested thinned significantly and now Im trying to grow it back. So I dont think I'll be using product ever again. I use homemade flaxseed gel. I also use honey, aloe and yoghurt deep treatment. I want to experiment with banana, okra and onion deep treatments bc i have heard great reviews. I wash my hair with a bar or natural black soap n that's it. I wud really love to see a vid of the process that u do. Thanks. Stay beautiful

Nora Brooks: Excellent scientific analogy. I am a WOW/LOL girl and have been for a while, didn't understand why this method works but now I do. Everytime I have gotten away from this method I stopped retaining length, scalp always itchy from gunk build up, hair always dry. Everytime I stick to this method (massage scalp under moving water) everyday or three times per week my scalp is always clean, always moisturized, always retaining length. No, I have not figured out how to be cute with my shrinkage but I don't care, the growth I get is extraordinary. I stay in 40 twist and gently/carefully detangle and re-twist every two weeks. I do not get many knots because I GENTLY/CAREFULLY detangle my twist every two weeks. My nape is bra-strap length but that's not good enough. I wont be satisfied until my crown is bra-strap length, then I'm doing the dang-on thing! I think spring 2017 I will have reached my hair goal, I began my journey "bald" in spring 2012. please do a video.

MsFlame: Thank you so much for this video. I think women who do water only have the most beautiful hair. I kind of do a "bootleg" version that isn't exactly water only but has a lot of the same concepts of water only. I don't use any store bought products and I am completely DIY. I cleanse my hair with a coconut milk/aloe Vera mixture and occasionally ACV rinse. It breaks up the sebum and helps it stay moisturizer better than just water alone. I cleanse my hair 2-3 (sometimes more) times a week and wet my hair daily even if it's just a spray bottle. I don't use conditioner because I find it stripping and I found I really didn't need it after I henna'ed my hair. I massage and oil my scalp and hair with coconut and avocado oil at least once a week, often twice (that also tends to be the time I ACV rinse my hair. I don't use any gel either. My hair is doing the best it ever has. I rarely get breakage, detangling is easy, and I don't even shed as much as I used to. My hair is growing like a weed.

사믹샤: coconut oil is also anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal :)

B J: Thanks for this info, I will definitely try it. After rinsing out coconut oil, what do you use to style the hair? Yes, please, please, please, do the tutorial on this.

Lekia Lee: This is the first time I have heard of water only method. Sounds good though, so will try it. But can one use castor oil instead of coconut all. Because my hair (and my daughter's) is really dry, I find castor oil keeps my hair moisturized for long, but like you said, it also attracts too much gunk and lint. Thank you.

Myrabelle: Hi! Thanks for this video!  I really want to give it a try but recently, I've bought some natural certified shampoo which really work on me (don't wanna dust it...). An in the same time, I think summer is the best period to try things. Do you think that only doing a monthly-shampoo, while doing the method on a 2-3days basis will be bad for the process? And I'd like to see a video where you're doing this "rinsing method"!

Raquel Rene': your skin is beautiful!

Loulou Willis: I do use coconut oil as well I need to just try it alone then and stop using other products with it. Thanks for the info. I live in the States and am sick on a low low budget but thank GOD coconut oil is cheap because all the other products I have been buying aren't.:) Explaining about the sebum and straight hair makes perfect sense my white friends have told me they wash their hair every day when I tell them I on;y wash mine once every other week and their hair tends to be very straight.:)

Snowbell_235: Very interesting technique and I would love to see a video! :)

K Rob: I've been doing this for years.  I'm allergic to soap shampoos and manufactured conditioners.  I grew up knowing about coconut oil so when I stopped using the doc's recommended concoction for hair I just went back to that.  I use warm water, hot water makes my skin/scalp itchy and painful.

Gitta: Ron has recommended it to me too as I suffer from very dry hair! Which coconut oil are you using?

Cherelle Holmes: How long can you duo this before bacteria starts to build up in the scalp? But over all this is a nice informative video and your hair is everything

Eva Roberts: yeah your hair looks great! this technique i have been playing with too, we do not really need products.

LaToya Monya: I will be doing this. I am trying so many different things for moisture for my 4c hair...and for healthy growth.

Aalice Morian: You are such a lovely person and I appreciate your time sharing this information. My hair is one year and two months old and its not that long, i cant puff it yet. i am right now in box braids and i will be doing this water only washing soon after I remove my braids. Do you think this will be clean enough right after my braids are out? or should i try using some shampoo for the first time. Again thanks!

Flower: You're so beautiful !! And please do a video on your regimen with this method .

Margaret Burnett: Could you do a video on this procedure, I like it,and sounds a lot different, and little more than what I have been hearing, I have a very itchy scalp, and have tried about everything, so this sounds good..

사믹샤: Thank you - this was very helpful.

Naturalbeauty_abena: This sounds interesting and I have been thinking about giving it a try. So do you do any deep treatment or not? Is coconut oil the only oil for this method or I can still use my mix oils? Thank you for sharing.

Milenda Merrill: Thanks for sharing! Love your video and you look fabulous! Please do a video showing us how you do the water washing method.

Tyaiteiyhana Marcellous: Please do a video! I didn't really know this was a thing because I think I've been doing it lately and I would like to make sure. Thank you!

Diana Lindo: I am on the water only method from August 17, 2015 and i like it very much. My hair detangles easier in the shower and my hair is much softer.

Ro the Zimba: This sounds great and I really wna try it out! Great videos and explanation. What about if I use gel occasionally? Maybe a stupid question but just wondering if you'd shampoo to get it out.

Vanessa Morris: How do you now set your twist-outs? Is there definition and does it last throughout the day using this method? How does it fight humidity?

Loverne Cornish: Yes, I 'd like to see a video of the rinse method.

King Chameleon’s Eye: It all makes sense! I'm too much of a product Junkie (for Now) but it definately is something I would give a trial run of!! Great video.

T-baby Yupressed: Also to Don’t put the coconut oil on scalp start with the ends of your hair because if i apply oil on my scalp that definitely makes dandruff

Jess S.: I can’t stand using shampoo and have been mostly water only ... I use medicated shampoo maybe once or twice a year but regular shampoo is just a no for me -it makes my texture frizzy and I experience more shrinkage... water only with scretch and preen in between gives my hair the best texture the natural oil sleeks it down from the root. I will try a natural scalp/hair oil instead of coconut oil -I prefer to eat it then put it on my hair lol

NAA: could you pls make a video of the rinsing method? I would love to see it. Your hair looks very healthy.

SweetTeaDarling: thumbs up for the demo Video!  Please and Thank you!!

ALILFOREVER PoshAMentary: yes do a video please!! i am very interested in doing this process

Be_loved: Hi layefa great to see a Brit on yt , could you do a video on water washing please

CentricSista: When you proceed to styling after washing, do you use any products to style your hair? or do you style it as it is? And how are you styling your hair?

xoxopeacebringer: Just use lanolin oil, it's Sheeps natural sebum. It works for us, (my kids and I) and my face is oily I wake up and rub my face and then rub it on my hair lol that works too. It's all the same oil no big deal.

Jen L.F.: Could you please do a demonstration video for this method please!
