I Tried The Ordinary Shampoo, Conditioner & Hair Serum... The Ordinary Haircare Review

Hey guys welcome back to my channel or welcome if you're new here we are going to be reviewing a new haircare launch that has been highly anticipated from the ordinary. They have officially launched a shampoo and conditioner. They also came out with another hair serum so prior to this launch, they only had one hair care product and it's their multi peptide serum for hair density. I'M not going to be reviewing this in today's video because i already have an entire. Before and after review on this product, i will list that below, if you haven't seen that yet and you're curious to hear my thoughts on this one. But again this has been around for a while and we are going to be focusing on the newer products in today's review. So if you want to hear my thoughts on these new launches from the ordinary, if they have good ingredients, if they have nice formulas, if i enjoyed using them how they worked for my hair and if i would recommend them, you've come to the right spot, we're Going to jump into that in a second, but before we do, please don't forget to give this video a thumbs up subscribe to my channel. If you haven't already click on that notification, bell and drop a comment below letting me know. If you have tried out these products from the ordinary, yet if you're interested in trying them or if you're, just watching this review, to see what the tea is about, this launch, i don't think people really say tea anymore. I feel like that instantly ages. Me! That'S! Okay and if you need anything for me at all, as always check out my description box below, i have lightroom preset filters for editing your instagram photos, my spf merch time stamps discount codes i'll list all the products i'm reviewing today and you will be able to Find links to all of my favorite beauty products all right, let's jump into it all right, let's start off with their shampoo, this is called the sulfate four percent cleanser for body and hair on the front. It says it's a gentle cleansing formula for daily use. So let's dig into what they say on their website about this product. First, the ordinary says that this harem body cleanser offers a gentle, is essential approach to effectively cleanse the body and hair the product contains sles a milder sulfate that has been incorporated into the formula to be gentle on skin and cleanse hair without additional color fade. The molecular structure of sles2 is designed to provide effective cleansing at a lower concentration to minimize concerns with potential irritation associated with the use of sulfates. So if you're not familiar with the abbreviation sles that stands for sodium laureth sulfate, whereas sls stands for sodium lauryl, sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate has definitely been the most demonized sulfate in the beauty industry, but sulfates in general, as a group of ingredients have been heavily Scrutinized and i've talked at length about my thoughts on this. I made an entire video talking all about sulfates in depth. How i feel about the antisulfate train. That'S been rolling through the beauty community for quite some time. So if you haven't seen that yet - and you want to hear what i think about sulfates - i will list that video below there's a couple things that i really love about: sodium laureth sulfate as an ingredient in a shampoo. The first is that it's an effective cleansing agent there's so many shampoos out there that just don't do a good job at cleansing the scalp and it's very important to do that. So if you have a really greasy or oily scalp, if you have a lot of product build up on the hair, if you wash in frequently using a shampoo with sodium laureth sulfate can be super super helpful. But the thing that's great about sodium laureth sulfate is that even though it is providing that effective cleanse, it's doing so in a milder way than some other cleansing agents that do provide that deep cleanse as well like sodium lauryl sulfate, for example. So there is a common misconception in the beauty space that all sulfates are equally as stripping irritating damaging bad for lack of a better word, but that's actually not true. There are certain sulfates that are going to be milder than others, and sodium laureth sulfate is an example of that. It'S actually able to cleanse in a gentler way than others, because it has a bigger water soluble head aside from sles. There'S really only one other thing worth mentioning as far as the ingredients in the shampoo and it's the inclusion of chelating ingredients. Chelators are ingredients that can grab onto things like metals, iron, calcium and magnesium, all of which can be found in hard water and can be irritating to the scalp and damaging to the hair. So they help to kind of grab onto those things and then rinse them away when we are rinsing with water after we shampoo last thing i'll mention about this is the ph range it is formulated just right. It has a ph between 4.5 and 5.5, which is very exciting. You guys know i am always on the lookout for ph balanced or low ph shampoo, so this definitely hits that mark. So this to me is a perfect example of a clarifying shampoo. It'S something that has been specifically designed to remove oils grease dirt and build up from the scalp and hair, and i do think that that's important don't get me wrong. I don't want to discount that, but at the same time, there's nothing in this to offset any potential stripping effects from sodium laureth sulfate or those chelating ingredients, because there's nothing in this: that's going to condition the hair. So there's no silicones, no oils, no butters! No ingredients that will not only protect the hair but make it feel softer. Silkier look shinier, make it more manageable tame frizz help to detangle it. Nothing like that. So so what i will say about this before we jump into the formula and my experience in using it, is that it's something that i think can be great if you use infrequently, but if you wash your hair every single day, i wouldn't recommend using this. Every single day, even though they say it's a gentle cleansing formula for daily use, unless you are pairing this with a really really nice conditioner and deep conditioning mask those things are definitely i mean always essential to me, but especially when you're using a product like this. So those are my thoughts on the ingredients, but let's talk about the formula now, so this is incredibly lightweight, which makes sense to me after our discussion of the ingredients, because again, there's no conditioning ingredients in this. It is so lightweight that it almost kind of feels like water when you start to emulsify it between your hands. So i've talked about this a lot. I really like to emulsify a shampoo in between my hands before i go ahead and apply it. I find that that makes it so much easier to spread evenly on the scalp and get a nice even cleanse this, because it's so thin and watery it just kind of slips right through my hands when i do start to rub it in between my hands. So i'm sure you guys can see some of that kind of slipping through my hands and then what's left just kind of gets ever so slightly bubbly. It'S not like a really really bubbly foamy experience, but there's some bubble to it, which i feel like made. It feel like there was nothing left on my hands when i did go ahead and apply that to my scalp and hair. So when i first started rubbing this in, i was like there's nothing for me to spread and something i've also talked about. A lot is that the ability of a shampoo to produce foam or bubbles does not indicate its ability to cleanse the scalp. However, i do prefer really nice lathery shampoos, because again, that just makes it easier to spread. So this was very difficult for me to spread because of the formula and because i felt like a lot of it had just fallen out of my hands. So what i did is something that i usually never do with the shampoo. I then took this and just applied it straight to my scalp, so that nothing could slip away that worked so much better. For me that did really get worked up into a nice lather, so i could spread evenly all over my scalp. I think especially for me, because i have very dense hair, it's very thick. I need to be able to do that to get into every nook and cranny, otherwise it is easy for me to miss areas and end up with hair. That still is looking kind of dirty and greasy after i wash it or just a couple days later. So, if you're going to be using this, i would actually recommend just applying it straight to your scalp. So, there's a lot that i'm willing to do for you guys for the sake of a review, but what i was not willing to do here was test out this shampoo without a conditioner to see how my hair felt after i got out of the shower. No no chance so i did use conditioner after this, but i will say even with my wet hair before i applied conditioner, it did feel a little bit more stripped than normal. It didn't have that slightly conditioned feel that it has after i shampoo. So i knew i needed to follow up with some good stuff, so we'll talk about that conditioner in a second, but let's just wrap up my thoughts on this shampoo. The last thing i of course want to make sure i'm touching on is the grease situation on my scalp and how long it stayed looking clean after i used this, so i actually also used this last week on friday. Today is monday, so it's been four days and i would say my hair is just today, starting to look greasy around my face. My face is looking greasy these lights anyway, so yeah on here i'll, take this down and just show you guys, typically by day four. I definitely need dry shampoo, so i would say that this is actually impressive, so yeah like here we're definitely looking a little stringy little greasy. I need dry shampoo after this, but like up top and just in general, that's looking good and then under here too. That area is where it's looking a little greasy, which makes sense, because this part of my hair is where i'll touch it to do. Things like this to get out of my face, so that always gets greasy the fastest for me. So if you have a really oily scalp, if you feel like your hair, looks greasy super super quickly after you wash it like the same night or just a day or two later. I would definitely look into this because i do think that it can be super helpful in that situation. Overall, it was good. Did it blow me out of the water? No did i have issues with my hair feeling, extra stripped or brittle after i used it. I didn't, but that's because i made sure to really use some nice products to condition my hair after so so. Do i think that everyone needs to run out and buy this? Is it the best clarifying shampoo i've ever tried? No to both of those things. The formula was just not at all my favorite, so for that reason alone i feel like it could be passable for a lot of people. Yes, it does help to leave my scalp looking clean, but i wouldn't say any more than my other favorite clarifying products like, for example, the dpq apple cider, vinegar, rinse or the whey detox shampoo. Both of those products do just as good a job for me at cleansing. My scalp but they're just nicer to use better experience better formulas, better everything, so not a bad product, not crazy, amazing, either. All right. Let'S talk about the conditioner next. This is their bench. Ammonium chloride, two percent conditioner, they say it's a lightweight conditioning formula on their website. They say it's a minimalistic formula that avoids the bulky ingredients typically found in conditioners. This means more manageable, hair with less weight down bench. Ammonium chloride is a type of ingredient called a cationic surfactant, and i have referenced a specific type of cationic surfactant called quaternary ammonium compounds several times on my channel before and benjaminium chloride is an example of a quaternary ammonium compound or a quad. So, even though they're called surfactants cationic surfactants are actually not used as primary cleansing agents and shampoos, they're used as conditioning ingredients, so you'll find them in both shampoos and conditioners. They provide the hair with better wet combing. They make it look glossier and they make it feel softer and smoother. They'Re really nice conditioning ingredients and quads in particular, are especially beneficial for damaged hair, because their positive charge is attracted to the negative charge of damaged hair and they resist being rinsed away. When we rinse with water and in doing so, they can improve the appearance of flyaways. If you deal with that and reduce stout electricity as well. So all of that is great, but again similar to the shampoo there's nothing else in this conditioner. It'S basically just the bench, ammonium chloride and again ingredients that you would need to formulate a conditioner. So nothing else in this to help to condition the hair and make it more manageable. So i was definitely excited to test this out and i was like okay we're putting a lot of faith in that one single ingredient we'll talk about formula in a second, but the ph of this is also great. It'S between four and five. I'M really loving that from the ordinary i'm loving, the low ph and the disclosure of the ph values as well. The texture of this reminds me of a jelly cleanser. It'S also very lightweight which similar to the shampoo makes a lot of sense, because there's nothing in this to provide that really dense creamy element that you often get with a conditioner. There'S no butters! Nothing like that to give you that sort of texture. So, even though i knew that i still was a little bit thrown off when i squeezed this out of the bottle, because i was like how is this going to condition my hair, it's a gel, it's so lightweight. It almost reminds me of something like aloe and if you watch my video on aloe vera, then you know that that did not really go well as a conditioning ingredient. I'M gon na list that below, if you haven't seen that yet so i was worried. I definitely was worried. I will say that once i started to apply this to my hair, i was pleasantly surprised by how soft it felt i feel like. I was just expecting it to kind of feel like nothing on my ends and it definitely did condition my hair. But i could just tell it wasn't as much as i needed, especially after using a clarifying shampoo, like the shampoo that we just talked about so because of that, because my hair just was looking and feeling extra tangled, even though it was wet again. I could just tell it didn't: have that softness and slip to it that it typically has after i use conditioner. I knew i needed to go in with something else or i was going to end up having really really tangly hair. Once i jumped out of the shower, so i did go ahead and do that. I used a separate conditioner again i apologize because then i wasn't able to show you guys what my hair fully looked like after, but i knew it wasn't going to be pretty so this was kind of a fail for me. Unfortunately, however, i think if you have hair, that's very, very thin and fine and doesn't tangle easily. This could be a dream for you, because it's not going to weigh down your hair or make your hair just feel gunky, like some conditioners may. So if you use conditioners that are really creamy and you just feel like they make your hair look, limp and weighed down and just don't really agree with your hair type. This could be the perfect type of texture and a conditioner for you, but it just did not work for me if you do have a similar hair type to me. If you have really tangly hair, i personally wouldn't recommend, but again i'm curious to hear your thoughts. If you have tried this out all right, let's wrap up this review by quickly talking about their new serum for the scalp. This is not a hair growth serum, like the other one, it is called their natural moisturizing factors plus hyaluronic acid, which they say is a lightweight hydrating serum for the scalp on their website. They say that this is a milky serum that contains a combination of ingredients that mimic the function of natural moisturizing factors as well as hyaluronic, acid and squalane that are naturally produced within the skin with regular use. This formula supports hydration through scalp skin barrier protection. So aside from the squalene and hyaluronic acid, this includes tons of different amino acids like arginine, aspartic, acid glycine, serine valine. The list goes on, there's also different forms of sugar molecules like glucose fructose and sucrose, sodium pca, urea, zinc, pca, magnesium, pca and lactic acid. So there's tons of ingredients in this that are going to hydrate replenish and protect the scalp. I think that something like this is going to be perfect for those of you that have an itchy scalp, a dry scalp. If you really really struggle with that something like this could be so helpful to you, and i love the fact that it is a nice lightweight serum because it doesn't have any sort of greasy element to it whatsoever. Yes, it's a little bit milky, so maybe slightly creamier than something like their peptide serum for hair density, but it still is very, very lightweight. You guys can see it's just kind of dripping off my hand very liquidy. It really does not feel or look greasy whatsoever. The ordinary recommends massaging a few drops of this thoroughly into a clean, dry scalp once daily, ideally at bedtime. So, even though it's not a fit greasy formula, it can definitely make your hair look a little bit greasier at first, because it's looking wet, if that makes sense and similar to their peptides year on this, is a leave-in treatment as well, so you're not supposed to Wash your hair scalp after you apply it in order to get max benefits from all the ingredients in this product. So this is obviously a recent launch. I haven't had a chance to use this for weeks and weeks on end and give you guys a review in that way. I will definitely continue to use it and update you in the future, but i will say that i have really enjoyed using it. I don't deal with major scalp itch or irritation all over, but i do have certain areas like the back of my scalp, where i am more prone to that than other regions, and i have found this to be helpful in just alleviating some of that discomfort. That i'll feel so i actually think that this is the hero product out of all these launches from the ordinary. This is definitely the one that i would recommend the most out of everything in this collection, and i'm really excited about it, because it's so difficult to find a product like this for dry scalps. Almost always when i see dry, scalp, serums or shampoos or anything, they will often contain essential oils like tea tree oil spearmint things like that, and that can be beneficial for some and non-irritating, but for others that can actually just worsen irritation, and this doesn't have anything Like that in it, so i'm excited about this one again, i will keep you guys updated, but i wanted to make sure that i still included it in this review, since it was part of the launch - and that is the end of this review. So i really hope that you guys found this video helpful. I am dying to know your thoughts on these new launches from the ordinary. Keep me posted in the comments below what have you tried? Abbey Yung: Y’all are not having deja vu yesterdays video would only play in 360p so I had to take it down, re-edit the raw footage & reupload to get it in HD quality!

Broomstick Betty: I'll never understand why sulphates are considered so bad. When I used sulphate free shampoos, not only did they not clean my hair properly, I had DRY hair. It was like hay. Some sulphate free stuff can still remove silicones and are more drying that sulphate based ones.

Arin Poli: This shampoo and conditioner have actually been amazing for my hair. I have shoulder length hair that is thick and my scalp is chronically itchy and irritated. I’ve tried soooo many fragrance free shampoos and my scalp is always itchy and greasy from most of the things I’ve tried. My hair is feeling less dry with this pair

Analia Groebe: Love your videos… always so thorough. My hair was always so dull and dry, no matter what product I used. Then I came across one of your older videos where you recommended making sure the hair is not only properly washed (parting it and making sure the shampoo is well distributed) but thoroughly rinsed too… game changer! I wasn’t rinsing well enough! Also love your recommendation for Purology Hydrate Sheer, perfect for my fine hair. Now it shines! Thank you!

Nonie Leopard: I've been wondering about the shampoo and conditioner so thanks for making such an informative review!! I have recently been trying to use only fragrance free products for haircare after some pretty extreme scalp irritation and I was wondering if this set would be a good option. have you tried the briegeo be gentle be kind shampoo and conditioner? I was looking at those as well. do you have any fragrance free haircare recommendations?

Chandis Saunders: I had a post partum hair crisis. My hair was dying by the day it felt like, I stumbled on your account and binged your videos and I’m now on a journey to healing my hair and already seeing results! Thank you so much! My daughter has fine, curly/wavy hair. Wondering if you have a Go-to YouTuber you would recommend for curly hair hair care!? :)

FX Garage Works: Love your videos! Super informative. I just started using the scalp serum and it is amazing. It got rid of itching and flakes after the first application. My scalp isn’t greasy after 2 nights of applying before bed, just soothed and happy. Definitely the hero of the hair care line.

Bob Stein: The new scalp serum gets a 100k out of 10 for me. It feels SOOOO good when it it runs down my scalp I love it!!! Thanks for the vid Abbey :D

LaRonda Aranyos: Thank YOU Abbey for all of your honest opinions! I got some products you suggested & my hair os feeling so much healthier in just 1 day!

jakebeauchamp3com: I’m gonna have to start trying stuff from The Ordinary now. I wouldn’t use their shampoo and conditioner on my dry, damaged hair unless I want my split ends, breakage and frizz on FLEEK I’m willing to try the scalp serum though.

Myah Andrews: I have curly hair and I liked the duo, the only thing is that the shampoo would frizz my scalp a bit. Other than that the conditioner was good and my wash day lasted pretty long using these products. I recommend the conditioner maybe not the shampoo, I have yet to pick up the serum, but I plan on it!

Kerry Robinson: I bought the new scalp serum a few days ago and I found it made my hair greasy. It looked like I hadn't washed it. I have short hair mind you and it's fine hair. Not sure if maybe this is too heavy of a product for me.

Amber: IM OBSESSED!!! I loveeee the shampoo and conditioner. I have super baby fine hair and wash every 4 or so days! Im a grease ball normally and use to wash every day til I used monat- i know. but this is my holy holy grail.

Tina T: Thanks for the review! I was thinking the shampoo would be a good clarifier, but after your review I think I'll stick with the malibu undo goo

Jo B: i feel like these brands are all trying to apply the skincare principle of simplicity for sensitive skin types to hair care but it just does not translate this directly.. from all the reviews of these products and similar 'basic, fragrance free' hair lines like vanicream, i just feel like if you are the type to have a sensitive scalp (esp ezcema or just dry scalp), these are not good products.. like sensitive dry scalps need mild shampoos but all the 'basic' ones are essentially clarifying shampoos. not good for every day tbh. if you're looking for a fragrance free actually sensitive scalp friendly shampoo, i recommend the theorie hypoallergenic shampoo. that one is actually pleasant to use too

Natalie Rembisz: Enjoyed this review but as someone who has thick, fine hair that tangles easily I don’t think this conditioner would be a good fit. I am excited to try this shampoo or the other released by the ordinary with SA and the hair growth serum. Thank you for being so honest and informative always!

Keyser: Please talk about the breogeo scalp revival line! I am so curious to see what you think! ❤️

Lizbet PCB: I gotta admit, I’m disappointed, but I’ll give them all a shot, anyway. I have a few friends and acquaintances who are always happy to get hair and skin care products I pass onto them (and vice versa) that don’t work for me.

The Beauty Minimalist: Thanks for the review..sounds like a hard no from me great detail and descriptions as always

Erin Karels: I had used the peptide hair serum, but found it to be greasy, regardless of how much I used. Really didn't seem to do much, just felt heavy and gross. Thanks sharing your thoughts on the shampoo and conditioner!!

Kathleen •: I love The Ordinary but not so interested by their hair care line except the "hair growth" serum

Its Tia!: Loved this review Abbey! But I'm your hair twin... so unfortunately I don't think this Launch is for me, but I really think it would be fantastic for someone who has thin and limp hair! Thanks hun, Lots of love Tia ❤

Cute Lyrics From Lily: can you please make a review about the inkey list hair care line it would be do helpful

Mikayla Jenkins: Yay! I was hoping someone I trust would review this line!

Debbie R: Thanks for the review, definitely saved me as I have the driest coarsest, curliest hair ever. I'm thinking mine wouldn't survive

LaRonda Aranyos: Hey Abbey! I was wondering if you would do a review on a charcoal body soap

Bailey Allison Dubbbbbs: “Definitely by day 4 I need dry shampoo”. Girl by day 2 I need dry shampoo

Alicia Paul: Great video! Very random but was just thinking, it would be awesome if you did a k beauty hair care video! I’ve heard there are some great hair products but I’ve only dabbled in skincare so far. Just a thought!

Tiffanie Duray: I'd still watch this again because you're amazing❤❤

Carol: Wait I’m having a mandela effect moment did I dream of watching this already❤️

Melissa D: Just looking at the ingredients I can just tell that the shampoo and conditioner is not for my type 4 coily hair one size definitely does not fit all

John Biker: I have a question for shampoo and shampoos in general. How to know if a shampoo has 4 % sls or more?

Sandra Cohen: agree with all your observations on all three products. I have a dry scalp and like the hair serum. already thought it. unlikely to rebuy shampoo and conditioner. will use up shampoo as a clarifying shampoo, and use the conditioner before a richer conditioner to detangle hair

Kylie Andrea: Omg thank you for reviewing this!

LaurieMyers: Hey Abbey! Have you tried any of the Act and Acre products? They gear towards scalp detoxing for hair growth.

savvy lynn: OMGosh, so much better in HD! TU! Rewatching now!

Jan McMahon: Can you please do your makeup routine? Your skin and makeup look fresh and beautiful. I am 63 years old but your content is still relevant for me

Katie A.: I know you talk about damage repair shampoos. Do you have a video on daily/clarifying shampoos?

Elina Policastro: Yay!!! Thank you Abbey!!!

Theo Trindade: Thanks very helpful.. i have scalp psoriasis.. maybe gonna try the serum

GorillaGrip: Holy crap this is the first time I click on a video so early that there are zero comments. Hey Abbey, hope you're doing alright and having a good day! You too, reader!

eyung7: Ooooh been waiting for this one!!

homemadecatstew: the serum sounds interesting!

ERA: Please please please please review JVN hair Products! Please I bought the travel size and the combo , ... But I have mixed feelings (love the package -almost plastic free, and smell but I am not sure if $-benefits-clean product " it is worth it or a better option. I am not sure if it is improving my hair (first time spending money on something like this, so I don't know how/when to expect. You look a lot better (mood) in your new apartment! The air/aura ... Something more zen. :)

Deep Kaur: Hello I love your videos

Julie Fulton: Hello, I am 53 and have frizzy semi-curly fine but fairly thick hair. What would you recommend for shampoo and conditioner?

Ervin's Movie Corner: Easter is just a week away, Abbey!❤️❤️

Sophia LoRe: Pls review sunbum hair care!!

Muah la Kaparak: love it..❤

Pushy Reyes: Hi Abbey, not sure if this is a repeat question but t would like to get your recommendation on the Chaz Wen Shampoo that can be seen on QVC or if you have tried it. Thanks, peace and health to you

Linda Terzich: I wish you didnt chicken out and then used your own conditioner after. The conditioner does work and if you would please be brave and try again with just The Ordinary shampoo and conditioner. Thanks

meoww: @abbey hair dusting : good or not??

Bailey Allison Dubbbbbs: Don’t worry I think people still say tea….but I am pretty sure we are the same age so I may be aging myself too

Trishanne Lininger: Thanks Abbey:)

Soumia Khelouf G2: Please workout skincare routine!

Thai Sonkesak: I wouldn’t define the shampoo as a clarifying shampoo. I think that’s misleading to say. I think it’s just a gentle everyday shampoo.

Milmarie Vargas: Is this a reupload?

Deep Kaur:
