Don't Forget To Live Your Extra Life.

Hello, beautiful today we have a little game, it's called rate, your hair routine. So basically, what happens is i'm very, very, very critical in these videos. I see what you're doing wrong, what you're doing right and every time you do something that is wrong in your hair care, routine or something you could have done better. You will lose a point, so you go from ten points to nine points and it just keeps going down and down and down and then at the end of the game. Whoever has the highest score. So, let's rank some curly hair routines. This video is by vanessa lynn beauty, so i just had taken out my braids a couple days ago. I had them in for six weeks, whoa it's time for a wash day huh. She had braids in so understandable why her hair looks very wild right now and normally i keep them in for like only a week, because my hair is so fine, so they tend to slide out, but this time they stood in a little bit longer, but they Were really itchy as long as you use like really good products, you're pretty much fine, but my hair is color cheated, so i do have to do a little bit more we're getting into it. Is she gon na lose a point? Some people lose points like right away, so we're gon na see. If this is that type of video, all i did was go like this and lightly lightly lightly detangle and then, where it snags, is where i'll like pull it a little bit. Your fingers have natural oil to help guide it. Take it pull it apart. This is great thumbs up. We are actually doing great. Basically, what she's saying is that, before she washes her hair she's, actually dividing the hair and getting those really big knots out before she actually washes. It helps make sure that you're not pulling out your hair when you're done shampooing and conditioning and you're adding more knots. It'S better to get some knots out before you actually condition. I just don't because i just don't feel like it's necessary before i used to freak out when i used to have like hair falling out. But it's because i mean i haven't brushed it or washed it in three weeks. She hasn't washed it in three weeks. So we're about to see probably a lot of hair come out of her head um, so i'm using the patterned hydration line. I was running out of conditioner, so i ended up using the very last of it and then having to go in with my we that intense hydrating mask right after this is me washing my hair after three weeks of leaving my braising, so it was really dirty. I'M pretty sure i did conditioner first to detangle it a little bit and then i went in with my shampoo thumbs up, so that is amazing. She actually went in with conditioner first to detangle and then she's shampooing. You can totally do that if you have very tangly curly hair if your ends are like all clumped together and really matted, please go in with conditioner first and get those tangles out, because what happens is if you put the shampoo on first and you're, going like This on your scalp you're, going to tangle up your hair even more and you're, going to end up ripping so much hair out when you're done with the shampoo and conditioning process. You'Re gon na have to go with that brush and really yank out those knots, and it's not gon na be cute. So great technique, we haven't lost a point yet i think this is the longest somebody's ever gone without losing a point honestly like usually it's pretty quick, but we shall see. Shampoo is really for your scalp so that you can get rid of all of that buildup and dandruff and stuff like that, and then i'm gon na use this scrubber. The point of this video is for me to critique i'm not seeing anything yet she's, also using a scrubber tool. They look like this. It is great because it kind of like gets at your scalp without tangling everything around it. So if you have long very tangly hair such a great tool to have, i use it all the time in my hair as well. I just like the feeling of it. It'S way better than using your fingers and it gets that dirt off the scalp which she is going to need, because three weeks without shampooing, it's good to clean that scalp. That way, you don't have too much oil build up or dead skin build up and your hair can sprout through. Sometimes, if you let your hair go too long in between shampoos, it can actually affect the hair growth. Okay, okay, i always have to say in these videos i am being very difficult. This is fine, but i'm gon na take a point off we're going down to a nine, and that is because i just don't feel like that was enough. Conditioner you have such long hair with a lot of tangles. You want to get that conditioner on those ends. You want to get a lot of it. I mean you need like clumps of it, but like two big pumps or two big squirts. You know you don't need to cover your entire hand with it, but just a little bit more than that, i think she said she was running out of product, though so that might be the reason i do love that she's, focusing the conditioner just on her ends. She'S starting to detangle, oh i'm taking another point off. We are now at an h. This is gon na, be a controversial one, and i know we all have different techniques. I'M just telling you my own technique here. I don't recommend brushing your hair when it's wet. That is because it is at its most fragile state when it's wet your hair stretches by like 50 or more, when it's wet so brushing it and aggressively brushing the knots out of your hair while it's wet, while it has conditioner even in your hair. It'S not going to be effective because your hair is just stretching as you try to brush it out, and those knots are just stretching out as well i'd rather just dry, the hair with a blow dryer or naturally air dry it for a little bit. So it's like 50 dry, at least before brushing it that way, you can actually get those knots out and you don't have to pull too hard on the hair you're also going to get less breakage that way. So that is an eight for you. It'S a lot of hair vanessa. Ah, listen! I don't usually do deep conditioning treatments or any hair masks, but i was running out of conditioner, so it was just killing two birds with one stone that i used this intense hydrating mask. This was the second time that i used it by we dad, but the first time that i was actually paying attention to how my hair actually was, and it was moisturized and i feel like it was very moisturizing. Indeed, i'm taking another point off we're out of seven. She said she hasn't used any deep conditioning, hair masks um in the beginning of the video. She said that, and she said that's because she i don't know basically she just doesn't. She doesn't feel like she needs it, which okay a couple. Things, though, why are we focusing the deep conditioner on the root? I think it's because she has a lot of tangles up there. What i would recommend doing is putting this deep conditioner all over your hair. Getting it in there and waiting like five ten minutes with it on that will really help soften the hair and then once you rinse it out, that is usually when the tangles are released when the hair is softened up. So i don't love. When i see you guys like put conditioner on and then try to comb it through, it doesn't work that well, i promise also we're going down six on the board. I would love to see you use a bond builder and not every single time. You wash your hair, but once every couple washes, but she should definitely be using one since her hair is processed and curly, i'm really hoping that all of this hair is just dead hair that was just trapped in my hair, from not being able to brush it. For three weeks, that's a lot of hair. It'S a lot of hair. It feels like it's not a normal amount. After i rinsed out the hydrating moisturizing intense mask that i used. I went in with my leave-in conditioner and then i used the inner scents volumizing lotion in my hair. This gives me some of the definition that i get when i end up teasing my hair and fluff it out. We aren't towel drying or anything. Yet we are just putting the product in the extremely wet hair. I'M taking a point off. I'M sorry, i understand putting product on wet hair. I get why you do it. The product is just not going to absorb well. If your hair is sopping wet, it needs to get in the hair fiber. But if it's already filled with water, it's not going to be able to get in there. It'S just going to drip right out, so you're not really going to see a lot of the effects you would have seen if you just towel dried, real quick as for the products good enough, a deep conditioner, a conditioning cream and a volumizing liquid substance - and i Don'T section my hair because i'm very lazy, i actually hate doing my hair. I don't like how wet my hands get i'm glad she's using a microfiber towel and then i run my fingers through it and then i scrunch it with my microfiber towel. Then you see me applying more water to my hair because, like i said before, or if i didn't say it, the more water you have on your hair, the less product that you use. That is true that more water on your hair, the less product you use, but it's not actually like a good thing, because you know the product's just probably not gon na work as well: okay, y'all! So this is the next day. This is how we look at no manipulation or nothing just a lot of dancing around and fluffing holy sh. Like so y'all know, my hair is color treated and stuff, like that. My curls are not super defined, but i prefer volume wow. She has gorgeous hair. I love the color, i'm sending you some stuff. First of all, i want to send you wave tech. I feel like your hair would just do better with a foam than a cream, because you like the volume and it still feels slightly frizzy - i'm gon na - send you some color, obviously because that's gorgeous and some bdsm bomb, because it's my literal favorite thing ever for Curly hair to just finish it off and get rid of that frizz without weighing your hair down. But overall you did a good job. Obviously i'm nitpicking i'm going in on you, i'm! So sorry, your hair looks amazing. You do a lot of things right, but we can always improve. I can improve in a lot of things, and so can everybody else. So vanessa's final score is a five, so the next person has to beat a5. Can they do it? We shall see our next contestant on whose hair routine is the best. Is india batson? Let'S see what she has to offer us she's doing something called the bowl method. So i'm intrigued. The very first thing: you're gon na need for the bowl method. Surprise, surprise is a bowl. Ladies and gentlemen. I am intrigued, but i'm feeling like this is going to decrease her points because um a bull, i'm open to new things, but a bowl. It seems like we're doing things that are unnecessary, but hey. What do i know? We'Re jumping in with the olaplex number three and it is going to rebuild the bonds in your hair that have been broken down. This is not a protein treatment, however, it does have similar results for me to a protein treatment. Okay, i think this is great. That she's, using a bond builder, awesome job with that she said she had just gotten it colored, so it is great to rebuild those bonds a bit and bring that health back. I love this shampoo. It does have an oil based and it is very nourishing to the scalp. Should i take a point off? Should i not take a point off? No, i'm actually not going to, because i actually do like the way she's shampooing. She is being very gentle. She is getting that scalp cleaned, but she is not going like this and aggressively putting little tiny abrasions on her scalp with her fingernails like we don't want to do that. It could cause dry, scalp and all sorts of nasty things she's using a beautiful amount of conditioner and she is putting on her scalp i'm going to take a point off. He took a point off. This is my game. When i get to play how i want to play because her hair is heavy, i don't. I feel like that. Conditioner is going to weigh down her curls and it's just not going to be optimal. Let'S avoid the scalp a little bit jumping in with the twist feeling, thirsty, curl, refresh and conditioning spray, so i'm going to use this as a conditioning spray. This is the only product i'm going to be using here today. That does have silicones in it. So if you do follow the curly girl method 100, this is not the product for you, she's putting in a conditioning spray, which is always great for dryer curlier hair. So i i'm into that. Also she mentioned something about silicones. I don't get the whole silicone thing. Silicones are fine, okay, i don't even want to get into it right like why it's fine, but there are ways to use silicones. That is totally fine. It can, of course, cause buildup, but you will know when you have a build-up of silicone in your hair and it takes a whole lot for that to happen, but without silicones, guys, you're, never gon na get that, like glassy, shiny, shiny, shiny, beautiful hair, we're going To place our bowl underneath where the water is going to land essentially and we're going to squish the products in where it all recycles into a bowl, and then you use those products to then continue styling your hair. I hate it. It'S the same story as the last girl guys. You got to get a little bit of that water out so that the the product can absorb in your hair, so she's going to dip her hair, basically in water, with the product in basically rinse off the product. Take it out again squeeze the product back in her hair, then rinse it again. That'S a point on the point off. Also i'm taking another play off. Oh my god. What are you gon na? Do you may not win the grand prize of nothing? Your your points are going down. I would rather see her style. Her hair use like a denman brush or a wide tooth comb at least get some of those curls in there and then put the product in rather than like, have her hair stopping wet, not styled, then put the product in then try to style it. It seems like backwards and with this method i did not take any of the water out of my hair. I'M applying this to soaking wet hair, which is going to leave me with really like perfect frizz free wavy curls, and i am going to add just a little bit of water to the tippy top. It doesn't feel quite as squishy as the bottom. I'M going to use a spray water bottle, they're super awesome at just refreshing, specific parts of your hair. I love that water bottle. I have the same one they're great. It is so important with curly hair to keep it damp while you're in that styling phase. That way, the frizz doesn't happen. So i like this, i like that she's dampening her hair in between, but not wet. I don't like the wet for our styler today. We'Re going to be jumping in with the ready set bounce soft hold curl defining jelly. It kind of is like a cream and gel in one okay, so now she's putting a jolly cream thing in her hair. I'M gon na take a point. I'M gon na. Do it by the way you're doing great. If you're watching, listen, i'm just being critical. Don'T worry, i just don't really love gels for her type of hair unless she's going for that way down like flatter curl wave, which is fine. I'M just gon na take a point off because i feel like it and like i'd rather see her use a foam or something that's just gon na make her hair a little bouncier and just a product. That'S like lighter than a gel and i'm kind of going to do like a bit of a rope method where i kind of split it and like scrunch it in here. I like that she's doing a good scrunch. We always love a good scrunch thumbs up for that yeah she's, really going in there it's beautiful before jumping in with the gel i'm going to finish our bowl method and take our water and dunk my hair in this, and then we're going to squish to condition This water, i hate it tucking it in squishing it out. My hair is beginning to feel like seaweed and i'm not mad at it. I just don't get it so we're only dipping like this much of the hair in the water and then just kind of taking the product out and then swishing it back in. It'S just not computing, so i am next going to wet plop. All i'm going to do is flip my hair over and i'm going to put it in kind of like what you would use for a shower cap and just let it plop up there, so it can't soak up any excess water. It'S not perfect. I'Ve got a couple pieces hanging out. Oh yes, i love it. I think it gives it the most beautiful curls and waves, because you're laying all that hair on the top of your head, making sure that gravity is not weighing anything down. You'Re gon na get nice volume and your curl pattern is gon na be super tight. This is gon na look beautiful, but it does require like a lot of time to dry, so i'm just going to leave my hair wet flopped for about 15 minutes. It shouldn't. Look too incredibly different because it won't be any drier and then i am going to diffuse. I thought she was just gon na wet flop till it's dry, i'm lost i'm taking up. This is me again being very critical, but one thing i got ta say about diffusing: if your hair is prone to frizz, don't diffuse upwards diffuse from the side, you can pull your hair up and diffuse it to get that volume in there, but going up like This pushes all that frizz up and people often end up with like major frizz at the end of diffusing. Because of that reason, so i try to always diffuse from the side and from the top, by the way girl. I will be sending you product as well before even wow fluff it you guys. This is the best. My hair has ever looked you guys, i'm shook so this is after she fluffed it up and i am blown away. I didn't even think her hair was going to be that curly like from the beginning, her hair was kind of wavy, and now it's like full on curls beautiful. That was a showdown baby. I was on the edge of my seat and i'm the judge. So clearly they both tied. These are our two winners for today, because they both did the same amount of things wrong and right, but beautiful job with your curly hair, routine and um. You know, there's always things that everybody can work on. Make sure you guys check me out everywhere else here. Are my social media handles there? They are. You can also check out x, model, hair and x model color linked below for you. That is all for today. Thank you guys. So much for watching. Don'T forget to leave your extra life and i'll see you next time. Bye. You

Julia Gradovich: Thank you for this 16-minute-long reminder as to why I never let someone without naturally curly hair ever touch my naturally curly hair.

Rebekah Gibson: I'm in love with this comment section. All us curly haired people standing up for what actually works.

LaLa Black: No Brad! You are not a curly hair expert. Everything you disagree with is everything that should be done. Different porosity, different textures. "Curly" girls NEVER, I repeat Never brush your hair dry!.

Tiffani Peel: Brad, I love you. But this video is literally proving what a lot of curly haired people always say, that most hairdressers don't understand curly hair styling....

Maya Holguin: Conclusion: brad is always right EXCEPT for when he’s talking about curly hair

Molly Skye: 1. Curly hair can definitely be brushed when wet and for a lot of curl types it’s a must 2. For a lot of curl types, using a lot of water is key for definition. Water is the best source of hydration 3. Gel would not weigh her hair down or make it flat, actually for someone with her looser hair texture CREAM would weigh it down.

Mallory P: Having Brad, who does not specialize in curly hair, judge curly haired women’s routines and assign an asinine point system to them rubs me the wrong way

NikitaUnique: My two cents: if something works well for your hair, IT IS NOT “WRONG”. Do what works best for YOUR hair. You know your own hair better than anyone else. ☺️

MichIsMellow: I think Brad should collab with a curly hair stylist (Deeper than Hair is great!) cause he could learn why our techniques are the way they are.

Crystal: Braaaddd....you need to watch more curly girls. Putting the product in when your hair is soaking wet, then squishing or pulsing it in for a couple of minutes is actually the most effective way to both get product in and maintain moisture for a lot of curlies. I've done it myself and it really does make a difference. Also, these curly girls have spent a lot of time figuring out what works best for them. It's a very different routine than for straight hair. Btw, the reason for not using silicone is because it requires a sulfate to remove, and many curlies only use a sulfate every few weeks.

Cindy Rea: PSA Don’t get curly hair advice from someone who doesn’t have curly hair..brushing curly hair dry is a curly hair sin. Please never do that that causes the most damage/ breakage. Love you brad but you need more curly hair education.

Miss Smackie: He thought she would wet plop until it was dry?!? NO. It literally doesn't work that way. Brad, stick to straight hair. You killed your curly hair cred with this.

Sasha Perigo: I love Brad Mondo, but I’m always surprised at how little he knows about curly hair care. From brushing when wet to applying products when hair is sopping wet, Brad has a lot to learn from the women he’s reviewing.

Lola Spades: All these critiques about Brad's comments are very valid. As a curly girl, I would just like to add frizz is not always a bad thing. Some of us actually prefer to have a little "frizz" instead of super tight curls outchea lookin like Shirley Temple

Hannah Worthington: Sorry brad, as someone with very curly hair who’s gone to professional stylists that specialize in curly hair- brushing and styling my hair while wet is an ABSOLUTE MUST! My hair looks so much better when I style it wet and is able to fully absorb the products. It stays nice for at least 6 days versus about 3 days when I style dry.

Rachel Carroll: Not going to lie…. This is definitely a frustrating video for me. As a wavy I have to do a lot of the things brad dislikes in order to make my waves the most happy and pretty. Brushing while wet is a must, applying products to sopping wet hair is pretty important, and a gel is one of the only things that gives me good hold. The other thing is that I follow India and watched that video. She was trying a curly technique. It wasn’t her actual routine. All that said I think if Brad had more knowledge of curly techniques and the reasoning behind the things wavies and curlies, this video would have been very different!

Sofia Chaves: India had the perfect method for curly hair! Brad doesn't really know how to deal with natural curly hair is what I learned from this video :( It would be really cool if he collabed with a CGM youtuber and both did a natural wavy hair girl routine and compare the results. I think both Brad and curly hair girls would benefit a lot from a video like that.

Andrea Condon: 'Brush up ' on your curly hair knowledge Brad. She did everything perfectly for her hair type and should have scored 10/10

Q Q: If you don't experience the hardships and joys of curly hair first-hand, don't judge people who do. A hairdresser who is seemingly unaware of the curly girl method, criticizing curly girl hair routines, yikes.

Jennifer Marie Rios: I love the curly content Brad, but…. Applying styling products while sopping wet is a widely done thing in the curly community! It helps reduce frizz and promotes clumping.

ACparty: Always agree with you… except… for the no wet brushing. As a curly girl, this is a must. Way more breakage happens with dry brushing. Come on Brad.

PronouncedBeauty: Brad... 2 things. Curlies NEED to brush their hair when it's wet. Dry brushing will cause breakage. ALSO, styling on soaking wet hair is a MUST for a lot of curlies. I have to add in my products with soaking wet hair to get my curls to clump the best.

Kristen Miller: Tell me you don’t specialize in curly hair without telling me you don’t specialize in curly hair. We comb our hair wet because it will cause frizz if we do it dry. And many curly products (like Curlsmith and LUS) recommend using it soaking wet.

💛Asthmatic Fujoshi💛: Just a note for you brad: curly hair actually SHOULD be detangled while wet. Detangling on dry hair causes unneeded breakage! Any time someone with curly hair detangles, they should DEFINITELY make sure it’s wet

NaturalLexiness: As a curly girl I’ve always noticed that brushing my hair while wet and with conditioner causes me to lose less hair . The number one rule I’ve always heard is NEVER BRUSH OR COMB CURLY HAIR DRY.

Naturally Beautiful: Dry brushing is close to impossible when curly hair is dry. Sorry Brad

Gabriella: Okay Curlfriends…I appreciate everyone who is giving Brad constructive criticism. Brad I agree with a collab with various curly chair content creators. Brad there are so many techniques…plop method, twist outs, fingercoiling, denman brush. Some diffuse, some air dry. It varies if you want definition, elongation, volume etc. Different curl patterns, different techniques

NxdblxD: I need Brad to colab with a hair dresser who specializes in curly hair. Most of his advice sounds like it's for straight hair

Monika De La Rosa: I've only made it partway through the first video he's critiquing, and it's insanely obvious that Brad has no experience with curly hair. Curly hair can break when dry-brushed, and water helps the hair absorb moisture and product. Edit: As this video goes along, it's painfully obvious that Brad is ignorant to curly hair care and has done almost no research on curly care before this video. The bowl method works for a lot of curlies, so the fact that it doesn't compute for him doesn't mean that it's not going to work.

Brian O'Dowd: Lol I love your videos but this is why I don't go to a stylist unless they are a curly specialist, because the things you're knocking points off for are absolutely accurate methods for styling curly hair and unless you have curly hair or work very often with people who do, or go out and get educated specifically on styling curly hair, there's no way for you to know that. Hair schools rarely educate students on how to properly style curly hair. I can't tell you the number of salons and stylists I've been to that have no idea WTF they're doing when styling curls so they finish cutting it and while it's damp, throw some kind of gel on it and try to put it in place and send me on my way. A MESS. I usually have to go home and re-style my hair after paying gobs of money to get it done. It's beyond frustrating. I recommend checking out Manes by Mell (a stylist, curly specialist, and youtuber).

Jade M: I hope you take the criticism well and collab with a curl specialist, so they can educate you and even us curly girls

Karissa Thiele: I would just like to say, that as much as I like Brad, he knows nothing about curly hair. I have 3B to 3C curls, and as a curly girl, we all know that getting our hair to do what we want is both difficult and different for everyone. I legitimately do like Brad, however, he has short straight hair and he has no right to judge the routines of people with curly hair before he knows what they have gone through to get where they are. If you do not understand what I just said then you do not have curly hair.

Tia: All of the curly people watching brad say to brush their hair dry, while knowing that dry brushing curly hair ends in half of your hair coming out of your scalp, with the half that remains looking like a tumbleweed: are we a joke to you?

joybartolome: As a curly girl, their methods all make sense! I’d love if you collabed with some curly hair specialists like Manes By Mel because I think she can help educate you on some things that curly hair needs ♥️

Sheniqua Williams: Please stay out of curly ppls hair business. We detangle our hair when wet because it helps with the curls. But also because if we do it dry we will rip hair out.

Hope W: Nope nope nope...gotta detangle your curly coily hair while wet (or very very damp) and apply products on either soaking wet hair or very damp hair depending on curl type. And gel creams are good for sealing in the moisture. The "swish to condish" is a curly hair technique from Melissa Stites, a curly stylist in Michigan, and it for deeply hydrating the hair. With curly hair, you need to keep the water in...water is hydration. And the plus side is you can use less product while still getting the definition and softness you want. Although, I do agree with using a foam product if you really want lightness and volume. I love a good mousse for that. But mousse doesn't keep a style as long as gel does.

Marleen G.: Brad, do you even know what the curly girl method is? The LOC/LCO method? Squish to condish? Things like that? Seems kind of unfair to judge curly hair without full knowledge of what lives in the curly community.

Amberlee Jones: She was doing her first wash after braids. You wear them for about 6 weeks, so that's a normal amount of shedding. It's a protective style and the braids trap hairs that naturally fall out.

Lorna Baxter: All of us curly girls defending the wet brushing stage is giving me life I am not about to let my hair air dry to damp to THEN brush it to THEN get it wet again to style it-wash days are long enough and I don’t want that extra damage haha Love you Brad but we gotta do what we gotta do

Sarah Petrie: I love brad, but he definitely needs a little more curly hair education. Definitely detangle curly hair when wet! And styling and soaking wet hair can help those curl clumps stay intact

Danielle Jones: Curly hair advice from someone who knows nothing about curly hair, how helpful!

: You are no doubt a talented and entertaining hairstylist and youtuber but there are so many things about how to care for curls you were unaware of. I’d love to see you collab with a professional curl stylist so they can teach you some. It would be an excellent video.

amysquie: I’m constantly amazed how little professional hairdressers know about curly hair. It’s 2021. But I guess if you don’t live with it yourself you don’t know (like how much hair we lose on wash day because we don’t brush it when dry). My hairdresser was also shocked I use gel but modern gels for curly hair, used correctly, aren’t like those shiny hard ones that men use.

Brianna Struble: Brad, get two curly headed participants with long hair and brush one head while dry and one while wet. See how they react and how much hair comes out in both. then tell curly headed people what you prefer for the health of our hair. I’d NEVER brush my hair while dry. Nope.

NaturallyDOPE0990: Curly hair girls HAVE to detangle while wet. Dry detangling is reserved only for for finger detangling only.

Heather White: The curly community is in full effect in the comment section. Sorry Brad! I love your videos but I agree with the comments- my curls detangle waaayyy better while wet with conditioner.

Ariella B: Brad removing points from a curly/wavy for wet brushing like he knows what's up. As a lifelong intense wavy (1" of straighter hair before waves start, ends are ringlets) this is seriously horrible advice to dry brush. Dry brushing curly/wavy hair results in frizz, breakage, and severe damage. Also thinking curly/wavies should be towel-drying before applying product. OMG Brad!

Kaitlyn Wonders: I have naturally wavy hair and I need to detangle while my conditioner is on my hair. Also, adding products to soaking wet hair is better cuz it reduces frizz and creates curl clumps. Which is what you want.

Rachel: I used to styled my 2B hair while damp and it always gave me less than satisfactory results, but then I started to style it while wet and the difference is night and day. It looks so much better now.

K'Lynn Anjel: That "brush" is made specifically for detangling curly hair and is great to use on wet hair a lot of curly girls use them.

Brittany Cook: I'm on board with most of the other commenters- styling soaking wet works way better for my curly hair, and brushing gently while wet leads to WAY less breakage than dry.

Angelica Plaud: I love your videos Brad but this is the reason why curly hair people NEED to go to curly hair expert salons. I’ve had MANY hairstylist like you give me the same “tips” you provided and my hair was just one frizz ball. Now by detangling my hair when wet and styling when it’s soaking wet my curls are more defined then ever. Please educate yourself on curly hair

Evie Vlogs: I just started my journey with my wavy hair and I’m learning a lot. The more water that’s in my hair when I apply products the better my waves are, and I have used a silicone and sulfate free shampoo and conditioner for 6 years now and my hair is always silky and shiny ‍♀️. I usually love your videos but I don’t necessarily agree with this one.

maya: as someone with curly hair, i can ONLY detangle it when it’s wet + with conditioner. there’s wayyy to much mechanical damage when i detangle it while dry.

M Kulla: Depending on your curl type, a lot of people have better results putting products on while hair is super soaking wet. It helps the curls clump together and keeps frizz down. Damp styling works for some, but not for everybody! Also because curly hair is more porous, it can absorb product, even when the hair is wet!

E: I would love to see Brad react to curly hair stylists styling curly hair

Emma Bergin: Brad pleaseeeeee please collab with a curly hair specialist. I love your advice and videos, but some of these techniques are necessary for curly hair!!

IndiaBatson: Omg brad mondo rating MY HAIR ROUTINE ?!?! should I make a reaction video love your content xoxo

Alex Grill: I definitely see improvement in my curls when I put products in with wet hair, THEN use microfiber towel. I'll even add more water to my hair at some points during the styling process. Styling with wet is better than dry any day for my curly hair.

Natural Tee: Just a note for you brad: curly hair actually SHOULD be detangled while wet. Detangling on dry hair causes unneeded breakage! Any time someone with curly hair detangles, they should DEFINITELY make sure it’s wet

Amarie: I would love to see you collaborate with a curly stylist to get more information about curly hair. I wet brush as well, dry brushing causes more breakage.

Angelica Burd: As someone with curly hair I can guarantee I will never be brushing it dry. You wanna talk about frizz and breakage?? That's how you get it. Brushing your hair dry is for people with straighter, more naturally hydrated hair.

Tasha Glam: Brad, I love you. But Vanessa was doing the RIGHT thing by brushing her hair while it was wet because if you have curly hair of any type, you know how easy it is for hair to get tangled and end up with knots starting up to the roots of your hair. Combing through curly hair while wet reduces the chances of hair falling out and detangles the hair better. It also helps keep curly patterns intact. Give homegirl her point back. She was doing the right thing for her hair.

Fabiana F.: IF YOU JUST WATCHED THAT VIDEO PLEASE READ THAT: I do not expect hair stylists to agree with the curly girl method or curly girl styling methods but it just hurts to hear every time. Curly hair CANNOT be treated like straight hair it just isn’t the same thing. It has been proved many times that people who follow the curly girl method NATURALLY do many things right (like using deep conditioners regularly, or using microfiber towels) and that’s because we just really learned how to treat our hair. Sadly most hair stylists don’t know much about curly hair and tend to just treat it like it’s straight (like straightening curls to give an haircut as if I’m not wearing my hair curly). So PLEASE: those rules and techniques that we follow make sense and are practiced for a reason by many curly haired people for many years. So to every curly girl/boy that just watched this video and doesn’t know the curly girl method yet: -NEVER EVER brush your hair when it’s 50% dry unless you want to destroy your curl pattern and end up with frizz. Only detangle GENTLY with conditioner in your hair. -if styling your hair soaking wet works for you (which really works for most of us) DO IT. It definitely helps clumping your curls together, as well as keeping definition and have less frizz. If it’s the right product for your hair it’ll absorb it just fine. -“squish to condish” and “the bowl method” are WELL KNOWN and great methods to style curly hair that really helped many curly haired people. I have just 15 international curly hair groups on Facebook with a combined few thousands people in it that SWEAR by these methods. So what I’m trying to say is, sadly many stylists don’t know how to deal with curly hair and they prefer to listen to their straight hair based stylist education than on WHAT LITERALLY EVERY CURLY HAIRED PERSON SAYS WORKS FOR THEM. See, they may be stylists and I truly do respect that but I’m the one that lived a whopping 26 years with these curls on my head. I know my hair better than any stylist ever would especially if I invested years of time and research to find out about these methods. Curly hair is unique and special and you have to be open to these ways of styling it. Many of those rules come from women in the natural hair movement that used these methods before there was any hair stylist education. Boys and girls: you can only trust your own hair and other curly haired people when it comes to curly hair. Just. Believe. Me. That’s by any means no hate towards Brad, just much needed love towards curly haired people. Brad, I hope you hear this.

Robyn R: I am a bit surprised. You're usually quite knowledgeable and open to learn when it comes to naturally curly hair. However in this case, taking that point off for brushing the hair wet, was not contraversial, but plain wrong. Brushing / detangling curly hair when it is dry is an absolute nightmare and horrible for the hair. Adding conditioner for some slip and using a detangling brush (as seen in the video) is the only way to go. Once my hair leaves that wet stage, it will never see a brush.

bunny feet: The bowl method works great for many curly girls. When you have curls you have to try all the methods to figure out what your curls like best. I have to style with very very wet hair.

Dome Piece 11: Curly Hair: Comb hair soaking wet. Apply curl cream and/or mousse. Let hair air dry until crunchy. Gently un-crunch by scrunching with palms. DONE. Don’t brush it dry, ever. Restyling means re-wetting. Follow these rules to prevent looking like a frizzy haired teenager who doesn’t yet know how to style their hair type.

Jessica Young: Brad as a girl with curly hair I’m telling you brushing your hair while dry isn’t for us sweetie. It doesn’t happen at all and in fact I swear my hair breaks more when I brush it dry.

Melissa Hinrichs: Please look at how India’s hair looks after her normal routine because it’s the most amazing and fluffy hair ever

Marlena k8: OMG, Brad I normally LOVE your videos but as a girl with naturally curly hair your advice was dead wrong! It was actually making me angry. Definitely DO NOT dry brush curly hair, it's essential to detangle in the shower with conditioner. And YES sopping wet hair is an absolute must to create the texture that you are going for without the frizz. Our hair is porous and the product will not wash off by styling this way.

Tara Southwell: The only time I "dry" detangle my curls is after a hot oil treatment. I get so much breakage otherwise. Also, for looser curl patterns more water helps the clumps form, and for people with tighter curls they can achieve more elongated curls with more water and hard hold gel. You have to experiment to see what works best for you and helps you achieve the style you like.

Rachel Holdt: As a mom of a curly girl, you HAVE to brush it when wet and full of conditioner or you'll NEVER get the knots out. The hair has to be super slippery in order to detangle. If you try it when the hair is dry, you'll end up ripping out the hair.

Samantha T: I’ve been working on perfecting my daughter’s hair routine and I’ve found that her hair looks better and detangles easier when soaking wet, also when her hair is wet the product (leave in conditioner and curl custard) work a lot better too.

Asiah: In addition to what everyone is saying, when your hair is in braids for weeks, you're going to have a bunch of hair that comes out as you detangle and wash. It's all the hair that would had came out weekly,if she didn't have braids in, at once. 100% normal

indiemusicenthusiast: I would very much love to see him do a curly hair routine on a mannequin with hair textures similar to these in the video, I feel like it’d be a GREAT learning experience

Alyjah Flakes: Idk Brad...you’re rating something that you don’t really seem experienced or educated in. Curly girls need to detangle wet and different curl and porosity type require different amounts of water when applying product or the curl will not define. Lastly Innersense products need lots of water, they’re super concentrated. And I’m a team Mondo so don’t come for me cus I know how y’all like to tussle.

Téa Jones: Brad I know literally everyone has already told you this but Curly hair can not be left to air dry or blow dry without detangling first. That will 100% rip out your hair. Most curly hair loves water and curly products work great with wet hair, its also just a look thing. Just cuz you're a hairdresser doesn't mean you know all hair, you're still white with straight hair.

a: I feel weird about Brad rating curly hair routines…this is really specialised knowledge.

Amy O'Sullivan: For context, I have wavy, type 2 hair. I used to dry brush my hair for YEARS, and I was on the train of "my hair is straight but sooooo frizzy :(" My hair literally poofed up so much I looked like I was electrocuted 99.9999% of the time. Without doing too much research, I noticed that my hair looked so much better when I didn't dry brush it (usually when I washed it at night and didn't brush it the following morning) so I stopped dry brushing. When I realised that my hair actually had a wave pattern, and was not just "straight frizzy hair", and stopped dry brushing my hair completely, my life became so much easier. So I can only imagine that girls with curlier hair would have an even worse experience than me when it comes to dry brushing. I have to disagree strongly with this one, Brad. Please consult someone w natural hair/someone who specialises in these areas before making such a video. Or even make it a collab, I'm sure people would be really happy to see you collab w natural hair girls :)

Whitney Girl: My hair is naturally pin straight, and I’m learning a lot from the comments. Honestly, I love brad a lot, but I have to agree with the comments. It seems like he needs more education on curly hair! He genuinely seems like a good person who loves hair, and appreciates all hair textures. However, his knowledge of curly hair seems to be lacking. I’m really hoping after this video, he talked to some curly girls and learned some more. Seriously, curly hair is so different from straight/wavy hair. My hair texture is similar to brads so I understand being surprised by these curly hair routines, but obviously the curly girls know what they’re doing cuz their hair looks great But anyway, love you brad, I hope you took some time to learn more about curly hair☺️

Marziana: As a curly hair woman, I agree with you: I used to brush my hair wet and always ended up with breakage and damage. Now I use a deep conditioner and the brush glides wonderfully. The result is I have less fallout, less damage and my hair is hydrated!

Jodie Strange: Gel is actually quite amazing when it’s the correct Type of gel, gel provides curl definition to the gods and then when you break the shell once it’s dry the volume comes . Also when diffusing you can diffuse in any direction , if you applied product correct with enough moisture then you won’t get frizz. Maybe look into more curly routines before criticizing others :)

ruby 🪄: yes! we love someone with straight hair talking abt what ppl with curly hair do!! so great!!

Tall Girl Bliss: I was gonna comment basically what everyone else had said but y’all got it covered. Curly hair girls unite

Uniquelyneci: With having natural hair it’s best to detanglr while wet, instead of 50% dry because the curl starts to loc in place and detangling is more painful and causes more breakage. Also the amount of hair coming out is normal for having braids in for that amount of time, because of the shedding hair that hasn’t been touch in those weeks

Sophie V: I feel like Brad needs to learn more about curly hair. Combing curly hair when it’s dry ruins curl pattern and causes frizz. And applying products to soaking wet hair helps clumps to form together better and prevent wet frizz

clarytee: Curly hair care is such a world of its own. Thank you internet for letting me learn how to care for my crazy curls and for letting me know I‘m neither crazy nor alone. A special thanks to every creator who has afro hair. I don‘t but you give the most sound advice for any kind of curly hair. There are two things here I find a bit contradictory: you say don‘t comb your hair when wet, even if you have conditioner in it. Let it dry about 50% and then comb or brush. But you also critiqued that diffusing up instead of from the side will destroy the curl pattern and cause frizz. If I comb my hair any other way than soaking wet and conditioned, that‘s exactly what happens to my hair.

Bianca Domingues: I alway enjoy Brad's input, but I have to highly disagree on brushing the hair while wet. As a curly girl, it is impossible to detangle the hair while dry. In fact, my hair break a lot if I try to detangle it, and it's a very painful process to detangle while the hair is dry. Plus, it will ruin all the ringlets I acquired with the wash. At the end, you will ruin all the hair washing process if you blow dry, and then brush.

Lara Vds: Thank you so much for including us curly girls on your channel ❤️! But please don't tell us to detangle our hair when it's dry, that won't work on type 4 curls love, it's a very serious no go. Detangling it when it's wet gives us some much needed extra slip (which compensates for the lack of strength), and brushing it when dry destroys all curl definition. Would love to see you try this out on someone with type 4 hair, so you can see the difference for yourself. Or even better: collab with one of our natural hair guru's, so they can teach you all about our curls & coils !

Emily Rodriguez: My future job is To be a Curly hair stylist for this reason , I feel like we get so much criticism from hair stylist who only know straight hair. I can’t wait to make people feel good and KNOW the way to do their hair and give them real advice , everyone knows their own hair and I just wanna be able to help them with that :)

Karen Alves: 7:10 Well, in this point I agree with the girl, it's the finalization of the hair, when it's wavy or curly, it works this way: the most wet it is, the better definition you get. In the finalization I really don't care if my hair is going to absorb the products since my hair is defined well, that's the main purpose indeed

Jannette Nunez: I just saw indias reactions to this video. Brad you are an amazing hair artist but wavy/curly hair takes different rutines and methods. Of course you can't know everything but getting some info on textured hair would be nice. Not many stylists know how to cater to our hair needs.

muneeraaxo: I disagree! Got my hair done at a curly girl salon and she styled my hair soaking wet! Looked perfect despite the heat damage definitely recommend

Ana Amor: Personally I comb thru my hair with a wide tooth comb to detangle while I still have my conditioner on instead of brushing. I find that alot easier and more convenient for me.

Khaya: I have 3c-4a hair. Many have already said it but I just wanted to go more in depth on why it works… Yes, hair is weakest when it’s wet, but for curly hair, all the bends and coils make it hard to comb through. It feels like trying to comb though a bunch of tangles, resulting in a bigger struggle and more hair lost. When the hair is wet, it stretches the curl and dissolves all those kinks, making detangling a lot easier, resulting in less breakage. I do, however, think it’s best not to comb the hair when it’s drenched. And you should have product coating it. Because again, it IS at its weakest. My strategy is to wait until after the conditioner has finished processing and let it air dry for like 5-10 minutes. That makes the comb just glide through, and it’s still at a slightly stronger state. Second, there’s a couple reasons why putting styling product on soaking wet hair works. But mainly it’s the same science to how you get a better, more solid result putting wet hair vs damp hair in rollers and then going under the dryer. The wetter your hair is, the better it sets into shape. In other words, putting your styler on wet hair makes it clump more and turn out less frizzy—because it’s taking on the shape of when it was wet, and holding it as it dries. There is a short video of a good stylist who goes in depth about this, here is the link! https://youtu.be/tT6lOMn-c_U But yes, again, it is true that water hinders the product from fully penetrating if it’s soaking wet. Which is why my method is to squeeze out a lil of the water, but it still has to be pretty wet. I also believe layering product in helps the products penetrate deeper. By this I mean applying a liquid leave-in, then something thicker, then thicker until I have juicy curls. (I believe this is what the loc method pretty much does)

Dilaisy_loone: If I ever tried to brush my hair dry, I would brake it all. On the contrary, never ever brush curly hair while is dry. It’s gonna hurt, it’s gonna break, and it’s not gonna get detangled

It'sHaleyR.G. : Brad if you're an such expert on hair then you should've known that it's a MUST to detangle hair while it's wet because if you do it while dry, you'll damage your hair more.

Nikki Lopé: Gahh Brad!! When you said to dry it 50% and THAN brush I literally laughed out loud! Anyone with curly hair knows that that is NOT the way!! I LOVE that you are including natural hair content, it warms my heart. Unfortunately there is ALOT that was said wrong. And as someone else mentioned, I would love to see you do another video and say what you learned. Also us curly’s would LOVE to use your products but they all have silicones!! please please make silicone free ones and you’ll get a whole new group of people!

Hiba Nizami: Personally for my hair I used to always use shampoos and conditioners with silicon and my hair used to get super sticky and a lot of build up.. a few years ago I switched to like my 6th hair care brand I think and it is silicon free and we are still going strong

PURPLE HUB: I am a curly hair girl being brushing it dry from years and once by listening to ppl on social media I started brushing my hair wet but guess what I started losing a lot of hair so I had to stop it . I now have really less frizz and soft curly hair tbh Brad is really percent right. I also don't use a lot of products a lot of products on my hair actually m on no poo method from more than 1 year and m really glad with the results even with brushing it when it's dry - no damage on my hair.
