My New Product Line!! The Tea On Melanin Haircare By Naptural85

What'S up guys so, first of all, today's video is going to be a long one, so grab a drink. If you need one grab, some popcorn you're gon na be sitting there for a while cuz. I have a lot to tell you this week has been the craziest week on so many different levels. I hit a million on YouTube and I dropped my haircare line that I've been keeping secret for six years six years. I'M finally able to talk about you guys understand how good this feels we dropped melanin haircare this week and the response has been amazing, so I just shared our launch video and that the pre-orders are open. I told you, I was gon na be doing a follow-up. Video just explain everything pretty much about the company about the products. I want to give you the whole back story. I want to tell you basically what we've been working on and when I say we I mean my sister. This company is not a collaboration. I didn't have anyone approach me and say: hey: do you want to do a product line? This is not private label. This is literally my sister and I not knowing where to start and doing all the research necessary starting from the ground up and hustling, which is why it took six years. You know when you're first learning to do something. You'Re gon na fail a lot and we failed a lot a lot and there's so many instances that I can think about that. We could have just I'm probably wanted to just give up, but we believed in this so much and we knew that this would be a success and we just kept going no matter what happened and a lot happened guys now. Y'All know why. I have all this gray hair, it's not just my kids. Actually it is my kids. This is like my third child. We have other projects going on too, but I've been hinting at this for a really long time. I just couldn't tell you what it is so to have it. Finally, out of the bag is just like the best feeling ever so okay, so I just want to start with the back story, so I started my youtube channel in 2009. Pretty much some of the first videos that I shared like that weren't slideshows, we're DIYs, I love DIYs, I've always loved DIYs. Even since I was relaxed when I was a kid in high school, I just been obsessed with hair, I loved hair. I did my friends herons like this is not just a social media gig. This is not I mean I haven't been doing this since 2009, since before you get paid for it before people were getting known for being social media. Influencers, like I literally just loved hair, I've, always loved hair. So anyway, some of the first videos I posted on my channel were DIY. I love mixing things. I love arts and crafts and just playing around with different ingredients and all that kind of stuff, and I did that when I was relaxed too so I figured you know what this worked for me before. Let me go and do it now also way back then, if you guys can remember some of you guys are og. Naturals products were really expensive for natural hair, like they were selling for 60 bucks for, like 12 ounces or whatever like it, was obscene. It was ridiculous and I had just graduated from college. I was just entering the workforce as a freelance designer and I couldn't afford that. Like I was like how am I supposed to do my hair, I can't be paying 60 bucks for a product, that's ridiculous, so I was like you know. I know how to DIY. I let me just DIY and I was making some really bomb products. I was like you know: I got these friends online who might be able to benefit from these. So every time I made a DIY, I share it with you guys, because my whole goal was. I wanted to help people who are like me who didn't have money for these products and needed a solution. I want to hope you guys find that solution. I wanted you guys to be independent with your hair care, because I got so much strength from just being able to make my own products. So a lot of you guys like the DIYs, which is awesome and a lot of you guys, are asking me to just make them and sell them, and I was like that's not really my interest right now. I don't really want to do that, but then you guys just kept saying that you know I don't have the time to make this. Can you just make this for me not getting the recipes correct, and so, when I started hearing that I was like okay, so there is a need for you guys to have these products. This is really something that could benefit you guys. Let me just figure out how to do this. I actually in 2012, started reaching out to companies. They were not interested to work with your girl. I was like wow there shouldn't having me promote their product, but they didn't want to work with me. So I was like okay I'll just leave that alone. I guess that's not gon na happen, but you know it was a blessing in disguise because I was like really willing to like give up so much just to kind of work with a company that already existed, and that was thinking really small. Looking back on it, I think I just didn't think that I could you know, have my own come so once I kind of got rejected on that idea. I was like you know. Maybe I can just start my own company. Let me just give it a try right, so I started trying to think about ways to do what I started. Crunching numbers and like it just turned out that it really wasn't sustainable or would be very smart for me to just like try and stay at home. Mixing the stuff on my own, so I started talking to my sister. We started brainstorming how we might be able to go about it. My sister is really cool she's. My big sister she's always been protective of me. She has a law background and she pretty much left everything just to help me and not just on the product line. She also helps me manage different things with natural 85, and so she just wants to help me. She doesn't like to see me kind of like drowning and work, so I'm really blessed to have my sister also. We work really well together. We'Re kind of like the same person but with different skill sets. We'Ve had the same goals, similar personality. We definitely argue at times, but we work really well together, like we just know anyway, that's not about my sister, my mom, my sister clearly, so I it's not about my sister she's co-founder. We owned the company together, but where was I I don't want to get off on target so yeah anyway, we set out to find a way that we can make the product line and not have me mixing things at home. That'S pretty much what took so long! That'S why it took six years we had to kiss a lot of frogs to find our prince. As far as manufacturing goes. We just kept hitting walls a lot of times. People were telling us they could do things that they couldn't and we just were not finding a manufacturer that really was patient with us and that wanted to do things how we envisioned doing it. We definitely wanted our products to be all-natural. I personally love safe, synthetics. I'Ve been trying different shelf products for many years, just learning about ingredients, and I learned a lot about the benefits of having safe synthetics in your product line. So I want it all natural plus some synthetic, but I only wanted them to be non-toxic safe synthetics. So it gets kind of hard as far as manufacturers go because a lot of times. They don't really understand why you don't want to add something, and maybe they don't agree with it. Maybe they get offended by it. We'Ve had a lot of manufactures, just kind of like leave us in the dust and set us behind ears every single time, and that grew really frustrating for us as like bro. Are you freaking serious like where? Why can't we find somebody who just aligns with our thoughts once we found a manufacturer that we fit with really well and work really well with them. We started moving pretty fast, which was really great. The six year process was really hard. It was us pretty much. You know getting our feet: wet in the industry was our first product line that we've ever launched, and nobody is here to consult us. Nobody was here to help us. You know we didn't have any type of meant or anything like that who could show us the way and so yeah. It was very hard we had to put in our hard knocks, but it made us stronger and yeah. We learned a lot in the process. So, oh so fast forward to 2018 and we finally launched our hair product line is called melanin hair care. Let me tell you a little bit about the name melanin hair care, so we actually grabbed this name in 2015. If you look at our Twitter, you can see that it was opened, I think our founded or whatever in 2015. That was actually when the word wasn't super popular. It was kind of just like a understated. Proud of my blackness statement today is used a lot. I I see that and we considered possibly changing the name, but I personally really love the name still. I love melanin hair care because it just speaks to who started the company and who our focus is on, and I really that is really important to me. I want you guys to really feel comfortable with the product line. I want you to know that we know we're not going anywhere and that this is really intentionally for my audience, for you guys, I want you to feel a sense of like ownership of that, so calling our product line, melon and hair care was very intentional - is Definitely like a modern FUBU moment where I wanted you guys to just look at the packaging and be like yes, that's for me. It also is just a cool name. I love how it just rolled off the tongue melanin hair care. So it's not melanin. Hair care. Canva and we've just been sitting on this for so many years and girl every single time I saw somebody wearing something said melanin are saying melanin, just like just kind of like go with this gigantic secret. So, let's talk about the products that we're selling so melanin, hair care is a hair product company, as well as a lifestyle brand, so we're launching first with two merchandise products and then also two hair products. So I'll talk about the hair products. First, the very first product that we ever approved and that went into production was our melanin twist elongating style cream, and I am obsessed this is the best I'll cream I've ever used, and I know I know that you guys are gon na. Take that with a grain of salt, because obviously I own the company, but just keep this in mind - that we have been working on this for six years and I wouldn't have launched with this product. If I didn't think that this was the best product that I have personally ever used as far as a twisting cream, it's just amazing. Not only is it super hydrating and moisturizing, you can use this on wet or dry hair, but it leaves your hair really defined and moist, and it also helps to detangle your hair. So when you put it in it makes those tangles come out a lot easier. You can comb with it, you can finger detangle. It also makes washed it easier because once you put water back on your hair, the tangles come out a lot easier. If you have this on it, one of my favorite features of the product is that it's not greasy or sticky or anything like that. I'Ve tried a lot of twisting products and I've never really. I'Ve never really fallen in love with them, which is why I always use my DIY. I don't know, there's something about a lot of the twisting on the market where the formula is very sticky, like you put it on, and your hair, just like kind of feels. Sticky or like it feels like there's a film over it or it feels like super greasy or you. So I love our twist elongating cream, because when you put it in your hair, it doesn't sit on top of your hair. It'S not greasy your hair, actually soaks. It up, like your hair drinks, this up when I first used it. I was used to my DIY like shea butter and mango butter creams, and those still can be a little bit greasy because I you know, I don't make it perfect every single time. Sometimes it's a little bit more oils in there. When I add it to my hair, I'm used to you know feeling the product on the hair feeling the oils and the grease, and when I added this to my hair, it soaks all the way in then I was just like uh-huh, my hair, just soaked. It up and drank it up and there was no film or anything. On top twist up my hair and oh my gosh, you guys when you take your twists out your hair just feels like hair. I mean. I know that sounds weird, but for someone who is very used to having like oils on the hair and like heavy butters and all that kind of stuff, I'm used to my hair feeling like hair with product on it. With this twisting butter. Your hair just feels like healthy, moisturized hair. You know what I mean. It feels very light and I love it. It'S not like sticky or greasy or anything like that. It'S amazing, so I've actually been using this product for a really long time without telling you guys, obviously cuz. I couldn't tell you guys when I used it in my video. I'Ve just been calling it my DIY shea butter, creamer idea why mango buttercream, because that is technically what it is based off of. I kind of mixed my mango buttercream with my shea butter cream to create this formula, and I work with the chemists closely to make sure that you know we could add ingredients in here that would make it shelf stable and also make it perform the same way. Every single time, so that you're not guessing on like what its gon na do to your hair, which just happens a lot in DIY cuz. You know you can ever get it perfect every single time, so he made it shelf-stable. We made the performance dependable, and so we added some really great, safe synthetics in there that we, we were very hard on the ingredients, so just know that every single ingredient in all of our products have been meticulously meticulously, researched to sure that they're, safe, even the Natural products, okay, so I know a lot of people are like. Oh, if it's not all-natural, it's not safe, which is not true. I'Ve learned that over the years there are some amazing, safe synthetics that just hydrate your hair moisturize, your hair and they're incredible, and I learned this through trying other products that were on the market and learning. Oh, I love this. Why is this working so well, but I talked about that in another video. I was talking about like some of my favorite products and why I use them and that effect that I I just learned more okay. I didn't know what I didn't know at that time, but anyway, every ingredient in our products has been carefully analyzed to make sure that they are non-toxic. We use these products on our kids. We use them on ourselves and so obviously we're not gon na put anything in here. That'S gon na hurt ourselves or that's gon na hurt our children. Everything is non-toxic and safe and, like I said we even rejected natural ingredients because they were unsafe for pregnant women. Our nursing women, so just because it's natural doesn't mean that it's a hundred percent safe. We we had a chemist. Very we worked our chemists very hard to the bone. In fact, we were just I mean with every single manufacturer we worked with. We were always cringing like. Oh, please, don't leave us hang in there please. I felt like such an annoyance cuz. You guys, like I just wasn't willing to compromise on my you guys know, I'm not willing to compromise on my ingredient and obviously this took six years. I was in no rush to get you guys, something for the sake of money. I'M not gon na launch something unless it's amazing, I'm not gon na launch something unless it's safe. This is my baby. This is my company. I really want to make sure it's a great company. I want to make sure that I can stand by these ingredients. I want to make sure that I'm giving you guys a great value, really good ingredients, really good quantities like everything is large size. I wanted to make sure that you don't have to go to the store a million times to refresh your hair products that is so freakin annoying, so you got high quality ingredients in large sizes is a full 16-ounce container. The container is not white if the product inside is white its full to the top. Can you see that with product? So all the containers are clear. It clearly shows you what's inside, of the product, we're transparent on all fronts and there's no fake walls, fake bottoms, a lot times. Companies will just look at the ounces they'll put like eight ounce product in like a humongous jar and make it look like there's more in there. But there's like a fake bottom to the jar and a fake wall and all that kind of stuff. And though these are completely transparent walls - and in fact let me get you one that I've been using here is a jar that I had been working on. You can kind of see how it's you know, I'm making my way through it. You can see that the walls are starting to get cleared out, because the jar itself is clear and that's all the product inside some of you guys online up asking me: what does it smell like our products are unscented? We might change that we're just kind of waiting to see what the response is, because we didn't want to do anything that would be offensive to anybody. As far as sense ago, I am very used to making DIY hair products, so there's not a lot of sense that offend me like. I can pretty much use anything like it doesn't doesn't really matter to me, so I don't want to put anything in there. That might be like girls, like you know, so we made it just unscented and we just let me see what you guys think we were playing with the idea of adding some sense. Obviously, if we do, there will be natural, even though the butter isn't scented. It is cocoa butter in the formula, so it has a fate. Cocoa butter smell, which is really kind of nice. Just smells like clean cocoa butter smells really good, and the oil, the multi-use pure blend, has a floral scent. It'S a very mild floral scent because there is geranium and sage oil inside the ingredients. So again it's not like a fragrance, but there is that natural scent and its pleasant. Okay, it's a nice geranium, pleasant, floral scent somebody on the melanin. Instagram was also mentioning. They really want to try it, but they didn't like that. They were alcohols in the product line and I just want to let you guys know that the alcohols in our product are fatty alcohols, which means that they're there to hydrate and moisturize. So there are drying alcohols and then there are fatty alcohols. What we have in here are fatty alcohols and we purposely put them in there. We actually asked the manufacturer to put them in here, because those are one of the safe synthetic ingredients that I really love. They really work well with natural hair, really all hair to help moisturize and hydrate the hair. It'S just a really great ingredient and they are derived from natural ingredients. Coconut oils, specifically, someone also asked. Are there coconut oil in your products? No there's, not coconut oil. There'S not pure coconut oil in the products, but again there are synthetic derivatives from coconut oil. I don't have any type of adverse reaction from the derivatives of coconut oil. For some reason, it's just pure coconut oils, so I kind of left that out just because obviously I want to use my own line and I can't really use coconut oil right now. Unfortunately, also I see you guys with the nut allergies. We will be coming out with products that don't have sweet almond oil. I'M really sorry about that. I just kind of I'm obsessed with sweet almond oil right now. It'S kind of like my oil, since I can't use coconut, and so I put that in there, but we will be coming out with some without Sri almond oil, so I see so that is the twist elongating style cream. Let me have the multi-use pure oil, which I just think is such a beautiful look so juicy. This is a blend of a ton of my favorite penetrating oil, so it penetrates into your hair and scalp, there's also an oil in here. That is a sealant, so it penetrates and it helps seal and you can use it for so many different applications. We also had it into a really nice ingredient that is biodegradable, safe, synthetic and non-toxic that helps to reduce the oiliness. So you don't don't worry too much about this having an oily feel. Whenever I use my dad why oil blend, I really only used it in the shower and I always did like a rinse to get the greasy layer off with the melanin multi-use oil blend. You don't have to do that, which is just like my favorite thing, because I can finally use it on top of my hair, to like style like for this style that I did today, I used a twist elongating cream and I used a small amount of the Oil on top and it just soaks right in it, doesn't feel greasy or anything like that, and it really helps with your lack of methods. If you like to do that, if you like to steal afterwards, you don't have to worry about being greasy or anything that, obviously, if you go overboard, it is oil. You will get a grease in this. If you go overboard so obviously start small and then work your way up, both of our products can be used on all hair types. It'S great for a thicker, coarse hair, it's perfect for thinner, softer hair and you can use it on relaxed hair. One woman that we work with is Puerto Rican and she has softer curls and she loves the twisting cream. So I would just suggest if you have thinner softer hair just use a little bit and then obviously the thicker. Your hair is use more and just always start small and we're we have to see kind of where you land along that line, but it works well on all hair types. So I am very proud about that. Of course, our products also have no sulfates, no silicones parabens, no formaldehyde, no mineral oils. It is again toxic, free and again, we've got really large sizes. That will last you a long time without having to go back and replenish your stock. So the oil is a full eight ounces of oil, like it's a lot of oil and then we've got a full 16 ounce heavy jar of shea butter cream. This stuff is so heavy Sarris packaging goes. I collaborated on the design of these packaging. This was pretty much my vision for my product line, specifically this guy here I just I don't know in my head when I just seen melon and I just see it kind of just coming at you, and I just wanted it to be very bold in your Face but also very delicate and minimalist, so this to me just says: delicate minimalist, like it makes a statement, but it's not obnoxious. Do you know what I mean and it's still gorgeous like we just let all of our containers again are transparent just to let the product itself shine, and I think that both of our products so far looks so gorgeous. We have more products coming, obviously, and they will look just as pretty in the bottles but yeah we just wanted melanin to just kind of take over the bottle as much as possible on the back of each bottle is a little note from me about the product And then, of course, my little signature, it says natural 85 right there and then the logo and then all of the ingredients. There are a ton of ingredients in this product, so many amazing butters and oils and the same thing goes for the oil. Because a little note on the back from me and then the ingredients are listed. Obviously you can find more information about each product on our website. A really cool feature of the website that I really wanted to make sure we did was when you go and look at each product. The ingredients are clearly stated on the website. I'M not trying to hide any ingredients, I'm really proud of our ingredients. Are ingredients are non-toxic and safe and I want you to know what is in your product so much so that they are a blast date on the website and then also, if you want to know more about each ingredient ingredient that's listed, is clickable and brings you To another page, which tells you what that ingredient is and why it's used and why it's good for your hair, so everything is very transparent with us. We just stand by everything that we've done. We put a lot of work into the product line. We'Re really proud of all of our products and everything that we've created from scratch. Everything is custom-made. Nothing was handed to us, nothing like this existed before we made it. It was definitely from scratch. I'M calling these DIY inspired and enhanced, because these are literally my DIY hair products that I share here on my channel, but just enhanced for a worldwide distribution, meaning that I've collaborated with chemists, who know more than me about. You know mixing for shelf stability and to make sure the performance is the same every single time. We don't want you guys to be disappointed and then also just to increase the functionality of the products like I like this better than my actual DIY products. So if you guys have actually made my DIY shea butter or my DIY mango butter, and you like it, you will like this better because it's more hydrating my DIY mango butter is so good, but it didn't moisturize and hydrate and it also didn't soak into the Hair, I didn't feel greaseless and lightweight, and this does I love this product so so so much and also on that note, I don't want you guys to be afraid that I'm gon na only focus on my product line. Obviously I love my product line. It'S my baby, but I'm not just gon na you talk about that. I'M still talking about other products as well, because I'm a blogger and that's what I do and I love what I do and I'm not here to again I'm not here to play you guys. I enjoy talking about here and I enjoy helping people and that's what I do. You guys have been asking me for these products for years it took me years, but I finally made them that doesn't mean I'm gon na stop creating DIYs for you guys, I'm still gon na be sharing recipes with you guys. I still want you guys to be independent. These are literally just for people who don't have time for DIYs, don't want to make it aren't interested or maybe want to give my products a try. I'M still gon na be giving those who want DIYs DIYs because again I'm not I'm not. That'S not me. Okay, I'm not like you know. I love you guys. This just adds another layer on to what I can provide for you guys. So don't worry the DIY there still don't. Reviews on products are still gon na come. Naturally, five will still remain the same. It'S just slightly elevated, that's all so the hair pipes that we currently have on our website. We are working on a conditioner and a shampoo and we are hoping to get that approved fairly soon. There obviously will be more products and more merchandise coming. I have so many ideas again. I told you guys. For years and years, I've been working on multiple projects, and this haircare line is just one of those, so there's a lot of stuff coming. Ok, so those are the products. Let'S talk about the merchandise that we have, I'm actually obsessed with this. I'Ve been wearing this head wrap a lot, so it's probably a little bit wrinkly right now. So sorry about that, but you know your girl is busy I'll have time to do my hair all the time. In fact, the only time I'd probably do my hair is when I'm talking to you guys, but this guy saves my day. This is the melanin logo head, wrap and I just it's so chic guys. Look! It'S a humungous head, wrap. 35 inches it's a square, but you can do so much with this head wrap and the design is so cute. It says melanin and n85, obviously Mellon ins for melanin, hair care and then Enemy five natural 85. I didn't want to put natural 85 on it because I don't know like oh my god, my chair, I know that a lot of you guys are grown women. You probably don't be walking around with someone's screen name on your head, so I just shortened my screen. Name to n 85, just so that I can still represent me and the channel kind of gives more of like an undercover way to kind of just nod at natural 85 and those who know will know and those who don't won't question. It'S such a chic pattern from far away. It just looks like a pattern, and then you can only tell that its words when you get up closely it's kind of like when you're far away. You don't know that it says melanin. They get up closer you're like oh, you got melody, so I think it's just a really cool way to tie in the community with the hair, Caroline with natural 85, and make it understated and still chic like seriously this head wrap is so she you can dress It up, you can dress it down, make it sporty or whatever, just if you're wearing a t-shirt or whatever, and you can wear this thing out to brunch, it's so multifaceted, you could wear it so many different ways, because it's just such a simple black and white Chic design, I'm really so again, stats, it's 35 inches, humongous square, one sided and it's very light. You guys have everyone like African head wrap. You know that it's kind of thick and the reason that's thicker, so that you can tie it in two different shapes and it will stay that way, but then also like towards the end of the day. I notice that my head is like very tired and I just can't wait to get it home and take it off. So we made sure that our head wrap was a lightweight material, but it's still sturdy, so you can still tie it into shapes, but it is so comfortable. You can barely even tell that it's on your head, it's not heavy at all. So it's perfect for a winter summer it's 100 % cotton. So I do the same thing that I do with all my other head wraps. Is I put a regular satin scarf whatever I sleep with underneath my head? Usually I'm wearing it anyway, because I am wearing this flood into my hair and then I just kind of style it around and this wrap, like. I literally love this wrap. It'S just so beautiful like I want to kind of make it like a dress. It'S just such a cute wrap anyway, and we see that you guys are loving the head wrap too. It'S like a really good seller online. So I'm happy that you guys, like it we're selling it for $ 15.99. That'S super affordable for a humongous sturdy head wrap! That'S super chic. So again everything in the line is built on value. Like I told myself, I'm not launching with anything. Unless I can give you guys a good value. Everything here is priced to be affordable. So our next item is, I just love this so much because I'm obsessed with hats, but I have a really hard time fitting my head into hats because I have a humongous head. I'Ve got a lot of hair, and so it all just works against me. One size does not fit all with me. Okay, so we designed these logo stretch visors. I just think they're so cute and sporty, and I love them cuz, I'm like the best of both worlds. So it's super lightweight again, it's very stretchy, there's no velcro or anything. It'S just one complete band that goes around that stretches over your head from the front. It just looks black and then, as you turn to the side, you see Melanie on the side, which again is just like kind of an understated nod to not only the product line but also the community. So I really like that. You can't like tell what the Hat is all about until you turn to the side and that's like a wham melon, and then we have again the founders logo on the so an 85 that stands for natural 85. So if you know about it, you know it's a very kind of like secretive, head nod so yeah, it's just very again: simple and chic black stretch logo. You can work with your hair up hair down it's made of lycra and polyester. So it's a satin material that is not going to pull your hair or break your hair and again this fits over. All this is one size fits all. It fits over every head, so if you've ever had an issue, fine and a hat you're gon na want to give this one a try. It'S very, very cute. You can wear it for lounging. You can wear it for working out again, it's very multifaceted. All of our products here are designed to be worn from multiple things, so that's everything we have on the website now again we're gon na be adding more just constantly. We have so many things. We can't wait to do and share with you guys. Oh, it's gon na be so much fun. I'M so excited about this, like I just love creating and I love being creative and the stuff that we have is just you haven't seen before. I'M just gon na save that okay, so I'm really excited. I hope you guys just give the products and the merchandise a try. We are open for pre-order right now on the website, we're taking the orders. We are not officially launching until February 2019, which is when all the pre-orders that are ordered now will go out, and then we will open up the website to general public. So I know that there are a lot of questions on the pre-order like why you're doing it now, if you're launching in February the reason that we're doing it now is because you know we're a small start-up. So you have a very limited inventory set to the side for when we launch in February, and it just kind of really bummed us out to think about the fact that when we launched, we could possibly get sold out and then have to wait months. To put another order in - and I was just kind of like I don't - I don't want to only have this small amount of people able to get their products in February, so we decided to open up the pre-order so that every single person that knows that they Want to have a product in February can order it now and have that product guaranteed to them in February, without having to stop the website or like try and rush to beat somebody else out when we launch in February, because again our inventory is going to be Small when we launch so if you know that when February rolls around, you definitely are gon na want to order something. I suggest you just take advantage of the pre-order now so that 1 February does come around. You are one of the first to get it because we are going to be shipping out our pre-orders first.
