Knowing how to oil, your hair is one of those things that might seem so simple, but most of the time we still make mistakes that can cause damage to our hair. So in this video i'll show you the hair oily mistakes and how to fix them. So then, you know how to oil your hair properly drop a like. If you enjoyed this video and let's begin get ready all right. It is time to oil, your hair and the first hair oily mistake that i've seen a lot that i used to do is combing your hair right. After applying your oils, when your hair has oil on, it becomes way more vulnerable to breakage and loss as the scalp is relaxed. So the best way to begin your oil treatment is by always detangling your hair first, before applying your hair oils to avoid causing damage to your locs. Also, this is going to help to distribute the oils around your hair, much better, since there will be no tangles make sure to use a wide tooth. Comb and detangle front ends towards the roots. In this way, we did it now. It is time to pick an oil and the next hair oily mistaking here is using the wrong oils on your hair. You see your hair has different porosities as well as different needs. So if you use the wrong oil, it could do more harm than good. So when you pick your natural oils make sure these are labeled, cold, pressed organic and the only ingredient in the bottle is the exact oil that you're gon na use avoid using on your hair oils like mineral oil, baby oil, lemon oil, since this could completely ruin Your hair and don't forget the essential oils need to be diluted with a carrier oil so that it can be absorbed easier into the scalp. I really like avocado oil, because it's great for reducing hydro fatigue and moisturizing the hair and scalp also for hair growth and regrowing hair. You got ta, try rosemary oil just make sure to mix it with the carrier. Oil as it can be too strong for your scalp, if it's used by itself, by the way i used to believe the coconut oil was suitable for all hair types. But unfortunately, it's not especially if you have low porosity hair, be aware that it can cause dryness on your locs. So i'm going to use avocado oil to treat my tangle hair and here's another hair oily mistake that will ruin your hair, which is not warming up. Your oil, before application, when you heat up your oils, you will ensure deeper penetration through your hair cuticles. It will help to seal them as well as promote circulation on the scalp, which will ultimately help with hair growth. So the right way to warm up your oils without losing their properties is by heating them up using a little bit of hot water. In this way, as you can see, i'm just gon na wait for one minute for the oil to warm up and then i'm gon na use a q-tip to distribute the oil all over my scalp in this way, which makes this process so much easier after you're Done applying on the entire scalp, not only for here also for here, go ahead and divide your hair into sections, and now using your hands gently apply a light layer of the oil from the roots to the ends of your hair. By the way, warming up your oils is a good practice to do when you intend to do one hour treatments, because this is the best way to ensure you're gon na get the most out of your hair oils benefits when you oil, your hair, less is more So you want your hair to be slightly covered, but not completely soaked drenched in oil, which is another hair oily mistake that i'm so guilty of. I'M pretty aware this should be completely avoided, because when you apply too much oil to your strands, it is inedible that you're gon na end up using extra shampoo to wash it off, which will ultimately strip away your hair's natural oils, including the oil treatment, leaving your Hair very dry brittle at the end, so kind of defeating the whole purpose of oiling, so big, no, no to this one, something that helps me to keep track of how much oil i use on my hair is to always start with one tablespoon of oil and Work your way up, depending on your density of your hair, for my hair, this little is enough. So this is what i use all right now that your hair is binding with the oil. The next hair oily mistake is massaging your scalp roughly or not. Massaging your scalp at all. First of all, if you oil, your hair and don't massage your scalp, it's like girl, don't do it! It'S not worth it. You know taking at least five minutes to gently massage your scalp after oiling is going to stimulate better circulation and with this boost hair growth. However, please avoid massaging too fast or vigorously because it can break your hair or make you lose hair than you were not supposed to lose. So the best hair oil in practice is to use a scalp massager, since this one will do pressure points and massage directly. The scalp and not put pressure on the actual hair, but if you don't have something like this, you can use your hands to gently massage the oil in circular motions across your entire scalp for at least five minutes. Once you're done. Massaging the oil on your scalp and hair the next hair oily mistake that it will ruin your hair is tying your hair too tight after you, oil, like i said, hair when it has oil, is more vulnerable to breakage and tight hairstyles such as high ponytails or Tight buns can cause damage and lead to split ends. So to avoid this is to use a shower cap like this one, to cover your hair, which i personally find as a great option when you have straight thin, fine hair like mine, with our hair being covered. It is time to leave the oil on our hair so that it can get absorbed and promote hair growth. So when it comes to another hair, only mistake here: it's not using any sort of heat cap when you oil, your hair, if you have low porosity hair, this is a must thing to do to ensure that the oil gets into the hair. Otherwise, it will sit on top of your hair and that's not what we want to accomplish with an oil treatment right. I don't have low porosity hair, but i have to admit that since i started using a heat cap, my oil treatment results are way better. Also, this is going to promote scalp circulation due to the increase of blood flow to the area, so boost hair growth and also helps in deep conditioning the hair, especially if you're using a hydrating oil. This is gon na make it happen by the way. You can also do this with a microfiber towel or a plain cotton t-shirt, put it in a dryer to get a little bit warm and then simply wrap your hair in this way, and there you have it a diy heat cap. So i'm just gon na keep this one. It'S very warm! It'S, not hot! Okay! This is not supposed to be extremely hot, just to get that warm sensation on your hair and scalp, so that all the oils like go in what we're gon na do next is to allow the oil to sit on our hair before rinsing it off. So do not make the hair oily mistake of washing the oil treatment too soon or leaving the oil on your hair for longer than a day. The most recommended time to leave oils on your hair is minimum 1 hour maximum 8 hours. When you keep the oil on your hair for longer than a day, it can cause product buildup on your scalp dandruff attracts stirred the end, stop mixing with your natural oils, which could potentially clog the hair follicles leading to hair loss. So it is not the best practice if you want to leave the oils as an overnight treatment. You can do that. I still do it occasionally, not all the time and it's been fine. I don't feel like leaving this for every night, not today, so i'm just gon na wash this off right now. So, let's go just make sure the first thing in the morning you rinse them off with a mild shampoo and avoid the hair oily mistake of using too much shampoo to get rid of the excess oils. Remember, if you don't soak your hair in oil, i promise you'll have an easier time to rinse them off your hair. So when you wash the oils from your hair, allow your hair to soak in liquid warm water for one minute then use a quarter size of shampoo which won't end up stripping your hair, emulsified and then clean your hair for three minutes. To make sure your shampoo breaks down all the excess oils on your scalp once you are out of the shower, go ahead and use your favorite hair care products and don't make the hair oily mistake of doing this kind of heavy oiling treatment on your hair every Day because you want to give your hair and scalp a break, also you're gon na have to wash your hair daily, which is not good for your strands. So, ideally, you can do this oil treatment routine once or twice a week before, hair wash to keep your hair, healthy, soft and very long by the way i just got ta say that these tips apply only when you cover your whole hair and scalp, and oil. Now, when you oil, with a few, drops the ends of your hair, which is a completely different thing, so i hope this makes sense. Okay, i just want to say that this hair oil video only applies when you use an oil for long treatment like a deep conditioner treatment or when you apply oils on your scalp for hair growth purposes. This is what you want to do to maximize the benefits of oiling into your hair. There are a few exceptions. First of all, one of the mistakes doesn't apply to oiling the ends of your hair daily. That is actually that i tell you guys to do, and i do it. You know do not apply, obviously a tablespoon, because then that's a mistake, but if you just want it to protect your ants from getting dry from getting all tangled, you can definitely use like one or two drops: that's it of argan oil, for example. That is super light just on the ends of your hair, to protect your hair, and you can definitely do that daily, which is something that i do and it works wonders. Also. The other exception is when you apply oil, a few minutes before hopping in the shower, because in this case my only goal, let's say, is to protect my hair, my strength from the stripping effect of the shampoo, which happens a lot. My hair at this point feels really really nice, it's not tangled anymore, and i'm so happy like. I love avocado oil. So if this video was helpful and you enjoy as well don't forget to share some love to me by subscribing to this channel right here. YourUnfinishedCake: As an asian girl, my mother has taught me from basically the age I started showering myself to always oil my hair an hour or 2 after showering (not while it's still wet because ur hair is still delicate) and not putting too much, the secret she tells me is if ur hair looks like it's shining too much when reflecting thats why too much but on the other hand if you don't have a bit of shine thats way too low. You want a mid shine thats neutral. Also avoid applying the oil on the strands, but rather brush the oil down with ur fingers down. Imagine ur scalp like ur face, you don't want to overwhelm it or leave it completely dry, put a light thin layer to boost ur hair and scalp.

C M: I recently started oiling my hair again and the shedding has decreased by more than 75%. I love it.

Dancing Kween: My hair was feeling super dry so I put a tiny amount of light oil on my lengths and ends last night (like what you’ve done in the last step of your video) and my hair is SO much softer, just from doing this one step, one time! I can’t wait to try a hot oil treatment this weekend like what you’ve done here, thanks!

Cherry Blossom: Tips from an Indian with thick asf hair incase you're suffering from hairloss: 1)This is an age old recipe passed down from generation, my grandmother who learnt it from her mother used to make this for my mom, my mom made it for me and I definitely want a daughter who I can pass it down to. Anyways, are you ready for the magic! Add Coconut Oil, Mustard Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Indian Gooseberry Oil,Fenugreek seeds, kalonji seeds(or oil works too) into a dish and heat it. Let it cool then add some dried hibiscus flowers and leaves, basil leaves optional i mean if you can find them or their oils works too) in it. Try it for 1 week and see the magic. 2) Now this is a massaging tip. Don't just oil your hair, massage your roots. Infact there are certain ayurvedic pressure points that stimulate hair growth(article linked in replies check them out!) 3) Reverse hair method: Reverse your hair. I mean ah...how do I put this into words. Like turn your head upside down and massage your head with oil. This enhances blood circulation. It's called the inversion method too. So that's that. 4) I have a hair pack too. Aloe vera juice(?) and castor oil. Keep it on for 30 minutes before wash. And AIR DRY IT....you can style it afterwards with blow dryer but air dry it first.

Andreea Ilie: Oiling your hair : detangle your hair so it is very smooth , apply the oil first into your palms , warm it a bit in your hands - by simply rubbing your hands and then apply it to your scalp , while you gently massage it . It works wonder also, do not forget to put some oil at the ends and the length of the hair, but not to much. It you tend to put to much oil, the scalp/ hair will not absorve it and it also can cause hair fall because it is too heavy for your hair. Thanks for this video and this accurate info

Kara Talks about Stuff: THIS IS SO HELPFUL! I've heard so many people say to use a hair oil, so I've been doing it...but never like this! I'm going to try this to help repair my daughter's damaged hair!

Man of Jar • Jar man: bro.. I been doing almost everything wrong. no wonder my hair is a split-ended mess.

Lesley Elder: Hi Doro, hope your well Loved this video and it was so helpful, I like to oil my hair before every wash and use my microwaveable cap. Always look forward to your hair advice. Take care

J: Wow, I had no idea I was using way too much oil. And yes, I'd have to overwash to strip the oil out, making it dry. Great tips!!

Karley Moore: The best oil I've ever found for low porosity hair is grapeseed oil. It's my holy grail! I have high density, medium thick, low porosity hair and an oily, dandruff prone scalp. So when I oil my hair I only put it from my chin, down. I never go higher. I find if I put oils near my scalp at all I either end up getting dandruff or my scalp is an absolute oil slick the day after washing the oil out, even if I shampoo 2+ times. Hopefully this info helps others with a similar hair/scalp type.

Father Father: So helpful, i was really stressed about trying an oil treatment but this all makes lots of sense. Thank you@

Meow Meow: I love this. I have shoulder length wavy hair. Its pretty healthy but it needs more moisture on the ends. I trim once a month but i love doing an oil treatment once a month

Lucakat: God, I feel so stupid now. I thought you were supposed to put a little on AFTER I WASHED IT to help with frizz and flyaways. I didn't think of putting it on my hair and then just wash it out. So I've been totally doing it wrong. Now I know how to do it properly. Thanks so much for this video!

NOORthern Luces: No wonder I thought oiling made my hair fall out - I would apply oil then come through it … yikes thank you for saving us with this video haha

Courteney Perry: There’s something that I’ve wondering about since I was 13 years old, how do you keep your hair healthy without washing it for a week for example? Because I don’t want to damage my hair by washing it too often like I used to. Got any tips on that subject, could you please do a video about it or comment down below? Thanks

Anishinaabe Kwe: Hi Dora ! have you ever tried Cloves and Rosemary for a hair treatment ? and if you have tried it do I need to have a carrier oil for the mixture or can I just put the 2 ingredients in my hair ? I always look forward to seeing your videos, Thanks Dora !!

Inaba Fatema: hey Doro, I have been following you for a while now and your hair is literally my dream hair!! but I have an issue I desperately need help with. My hair is very straight, totally like yours, and it's naturally silky and smooth. but as i grew older, the silkiness is almost gone. But only on top of the hair it's gone. not the below layers. I am guessing it's because the top layer of the hairs are exposed more so they get damaged more? how do I managed them and avoid damaging them? please reply :(

Jennayuju 제나유주: Doro , you're such and inspiration. I really love your videos and you, you always makes me calm and makes me say to my self that I should love myself. I'm happy I found you

Lea Lteif: What if I use styling products on my hair (curl creams, mousse and gel for curly hair for example)? Should I wash my hair to remove the products before oiling ? Or is it ok to apply it on top of everything else?

A S: You also need to keep in mind that certain oils are different chemically. Penetrating Oils will have Monounsaturated Fatty Acids and Saturated Fatty Acids which have a linear build that makes it easier to penetrate the hair shaft. Oils like these are: Olive & Avocado, Sweet Almond Protecting Oils/Butters: Shea Butter, Sunflower Oil, Grapeseed, Safflower, Argan, Kukui. Protecting Oils have Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids that create a protectivefilm around the hair shaft. So these kind of oils are best used to apply AFTER showering to TRAP moisture in the hair shaft. It will only create a barrier on the hair and not penetrate it.

Ayesha Asif: Brooo this video is damn helpful. I've been making so many mistakes. THANK YOU!!

Jennifer Trevino: Question. I oil my hair at night and sleep with it over night. So do you still recommend the heat cap and sleep over night with the cap. I normally just braid my hair in two braides and sleep with it that way then wash my hair the next day. Also, where did you get that cap?

Mary Gou: I put oil to my hair last night so this video is just on time its insane
