Hey guys destroy here and today we are talking about heat damage, so for all of you who are new to my channel, make sure that you subscribe and like this video as well as turn on your notifications. So you can see more natural hair videos like this, but basically a lot of you know that I went through extreme heat damage back when I was starting my natural hair journeys, some pictures up here, but basically I to get my hair straight in every two weeks And eventually my curls were just bone straight and I didn't really understand what had happened death eventually, when I was doing wash day, my hair wasn't curly anymore, and I kind of just let it be like that. As I continue to do my hair and then I started watching like natural hair videos and stuff, I was like oh like this is actual damage to my hair, like what can I do? My hair was about this length straight and I was like. Well, I don't really want to cut my hair off. I was in middle school. I didn't want a big chop or anything, so I tried to find an alternative route. So, basically, when you have see damage, there's two options: cutting it all off or eventually cutting it. Slowly and repairing your new growth and making sure that healthy, so I went with option two, but before we get into my routine and things that I did to make my hair come back, curly, healthy, etc. Let'S talk about key damage, so one misunderstanding is that crease damaged, hair pin fully bounced back? That'S not entirely true see. Damage is a permanent change to your hair when you put extreme sweet on curly hair and the strands will turn straight. There'S damage to your hair. Shaft and that really can't be repaired, but for me my endless straight, the middle was wavy and it kind of went back to kinky. So there was a range, so the ends were definitely done. The middle just to get some tender loving care. The ends were healthy. Hair, so my technique was slowly cutting you know, keeping making sure the middle kid come back as much as it could, because that wasn't really permanent. It was just a looser wave which is still heat damaged, but I could deal with that for the time and then I was making sure that the new growth were coming healthy and I would prevent heat damage. So, for all of you guys who have heat damage and you don't want to cut, let's talk about your option for getting your curls back, so my process took about a year and a half from the heat damaged hair to having my curls look in good. So basically, I had a list right here that we're going to go through. So the first thing is: stop using keep like you're going to just cause more damage. If you're putting heat on already damaged hair, you need to stop using heat, but if you must use heat, make sure using a heat protectant make sure that the temperature is low like lower than usually do why you set your oven to 400 degrees. Like would you put your head and you're like no like just lower that temperature a little bit also make sure that your seat, conditioning and stuff before you take heat on your hair? But that is what, if we must like, please just stop and heat on your hair, so you can stop further than any damage that you have, and by heat I mean straight airs blow dryers. Anything on, especially if you have damaged try to avoid. Second is choosing how you are going to cut your hair, because eventually you will cut off most of the damage and so option. One is a big chop which is cutting all the way to the healthy hair. The second option is monthly or bimonthly tray, and so what I did was monthly every month Alex off a half inch of hair for that year or so, and that was because your hair usually grows a half inch more or less. Maybe a quarter inch. But I don't want to see the link that was losing just because I didn't really care how long it took. So I cut off a half inch every month and if you don't really care about losing length, you just don't want to do all at once. Maybe do it every two weeks cut off some of your heat damage, just so it's a little less dramatic or like emotionally paint like less emotionally painful for you guys, but you will have to get some hair scissors and trim your hair. And if you want to see how I trim my own natural hair without having to pick keep on it, you should clip the video up here. It'S how I trim my natural hair and that will show you how you can trim your hair at home without having to pay to go to a salon, so definitely check that out after we finish going through this tip the third thing. So you also want to be taking care of the hair that you will be keeping, and you also want to see if only of the hair can have some curls bounce back. So, for me that was the hair that was kind of still spirally, but a little bit looser. So I wanted to see if I could get any of that to get like some life back into it. So what I did was deep conditioning. I do conditioned weekly for a few months and then kind of went to every wash day every two weeks than three weeks, etc. So what I did was a DIY, deep conditioner and it is using avocado. So these Alba kado honey and some oils, like olive oil, coconut oil and mix it together, blend it and then put that on my hair for 20 minutes with a with a plastic cap and then rinse it out so some people they do protein treatments. So my hair does not like protein, so I would add egg my hair didn't like the egg white, so I could only see the yolk or do nothing, but the yolk is just fast, so it just made my hair softer. So definitely try it out. But if you see that the egg or any type of protein is not working with your hair, don't keep doing it, it's not every hair type doesn't react. The same way to protein, so definitely try that out or try to do other DIY. Deep conditioning. I like natural stuff, when I'm doing with my hair, but you can buy view conditioners if you want to see the deep conditioner that I'm currently using there's really below tell all the hair products that I use. I currently run by as I am, but but you want to purchase their or just look at all the hair products that I use on my hair click on the link and the description box. The next thing that you should try out is protective styling. So if you, you want to cut your hair, but you're not ready to lose length, think about maybe cutting 3 inches off your hair than getting braids and then you'll kind of forget that you cut your hair and it will be less traumatic. Um, like we're saying before so I did do braids and twists just because if I wanted to cut a little bit more than the half inch a month, I was cut. It then put my hair in those twists and then, after, like two months when I took them out, my hair would have grown an inch back on by then and your hair is not going to have as much breakage because you do want to protect your ends. When you have two damaged, especially if you're not cutting it all up at once, because you might get split in and then that button will go all the way up, the shaft and damage your whole hair, the whole hair strand and then your end up having to Cut off more than you would have before, so that's why you really need to look at the health of your hair before you decide if you're going to big chop or just periodically trim my hair had damage, but it did not have split ends and that's what Was different about my heat damage, then, when I talk to other people, some people's hair is like all split up. If you have buttons, I say cut as much as you can, because you don't want your new growth damaged, because that would preliminaries of deep conditioning on all of the stuff that we're trying to do to make your new hair healthy and their curls pop. In so definitely the FDF split and cut those off immediately, but for me I had he'd image, but no visible split ends that needed me to big chop. So those are all of my tips for recovering or getting curls back, and it's really just a new growth. Regimen, I feel like there's a lot of misunderstanding about heat damage. You definitely can't just leave your hair to sit. You need to be trimming, you need to be deep conditioning and everything like that. Once you get your curls back, you can hold back on the trimming. I only trim twice a year now so trim as needed, but when you're trying to get rid of that damaged she's doing it regularly deep conditioning deep conditioning regularly once you get your coat back tried not to go back to heat you're gon na have new rains That you're gon na do looking dirty like, should I just look back at a picture of her she's damaged and you'll, be like heck, not x-naught. That'S what I do when I write it like tempted. I just look back at her picture. I'M like yeah. I am NOT going down that path again yeah, so if you have any questions, leave them in the comments below. So, thank you guys so much for watching once again check out the highlights from my natural hair video if you're interested and make sure you give me a thumbs up on this video. I

GiGi: Kept my 4c natural hair in protective styles for 6 years and got it professionally flat ironed a week ago. Washed it today and immediately saw a totally different hair grade. I used to complain about my 4c and was ashamed of its kinky texture and now it's completely ruined and I'm so heartbroken. I learned a valuable lesson. Love ME as I am

Nina B: i regret straightening my hair, It was my first time since i've been natural and it got damaged. Never again

Sanyu Ndekou: I'm literally crying, my curls are gone. I can't do anything with my hair. I look and feel a mess.

Kam: sadly, i don’t think i’ll ever get a silk press again. my stylist didn’t severely damage my hair but it definitely wasn’t the same it seems like every time i go to a salon they always set me back

Ranita Gadling: I feel so ashamed that I allowed my mom to damage my hair from the time I was little using everything from relaxers to hot Combs to flat irons sadly now my once mid back length hair is now shoulder length & I'm trying to get the length back to where it once was but I have no freaking idea of how to start that journey.

Cynthia Mobley Howell: Thank you! These tips were EXTREMELY HELPFUL! I could kick myself in the teeth. Suffered heat damage in 2020. Went ahead and did the big chop. Within a year my hair grew back long and beautiful. I vowed to NEVER put heat to it again. Well about a month ago I got this bright idea to flat iron my hair. WROOOOOONG. TOTAL HEAT DAMAGE! Uggggh, I'm over myself. This damage doesn't seem to be as bad as the first time. I REFUSE to do another big chop. I plan to keep it conditioned and trim it once a month and see what happens. I learned my lesson. My hair CANNOT TAKE HEAT.

V: My 4c hair is bone straight from heat damage. My daughters have 3a & 2c and their hair straightened out completely. Thanks for solving this puzzle for me

Stephanie R.: Super helpful! Thank you so much. I go through phases of embracing my natural curls and ironing it lol, but I notice my hair has been doing this very beautiful, tight small curly spirals all throughout my hair (similar to rastafari curls as type 3B). And it seems beautifully curly after a recent hair chop I did so decided to in the end embrace it (though after the chop had done a coconut oil treatment to only later iron it for an important event; so has minimal very tiny split ends with my medium width). Am going to continue to give it TLC -- Deep conditioning + trimming. Thanks for the tips again! It's been awhile where I fully embraced its curly mane.

Surreal: I looked after my hair really well and only applied heat once every two weeks or even once a month. But I was about to go holiday and decided to get it “professionally” straightened and the lady damaged my hair

Renee J: I've been getting relaxers my entire life, but about a month ago I did the big chop. I think my biggest struggle is figuring out which products work for it. Also, which video editor do you use?

Katiri Sherman: This past year I’ve cut off ten inches gradually. My hair started off being super loose (no straight pieces though) and with protein treatments moisture and hair vitamins (taken on and off but I took them lol) I got my hair to be wash and go passing 3 months after the initial damage and now my hair is pretty Much good it’s been almost a year and no one notices my slight damage but me now (I got 3 inches cut in may 3 more in June and 4/5 in October and I’m planning on cutting 2-3 more some time in December. I wear my hair in 16 twists pulled into a bun with a baseball cap, a Beanie, or bright scarf in the winter so I think I’ll but cutting more often now. My hair was maybe 3 inches from bra strap when I damaged it last December and with the gradual cutting and growth it’s equaled out to my hair length now (3-4 inches past my collar bone)

Anika: I'm mixed and had a very thick afro which made me self conscious since I was around people with straight hair. So I straightened it every day and now it's all straight pieces. I miss my fro so much:(

Chelsea Joy: I feel so discouraged! I recovered from heat damage once and fell in love with my curls, but then I had to straighten it once after staying away from heat for so long and BAM! Heat damage! Seriously considering a big chop but I've never done it before. I'm scared.

Caroline Brown: Hey, so i made a few minor mistakes while trying to go natural a few months back! no biggie tho because mistakes happen, i am ready to begin again, my number one question has to be how do you know your hair doesn't agree with certain things? your videos are very helpful and much appreciated, thank you!

Keren M: My mum taught me that I had to blow dry my hair after washing now I don’t understand what it’s become I’m so thankful for this video

kayla 123: I’m 9 months no heat and natural and I like it I guess back when I straightened my hair I would use 350 heat ..yeah the journey is hard but I think I will get through it im trying to grow out the damage and then cut ig

•Ari•: My hair is damaged from blow drying it A LOT

ItsAngie: im so upset i straightened my hair for my birthday and i washed it a week later and noticed my curls wern't coming back so i got braids done a week later and currently i can still see the texture of my hair is straight im so sad i regret it omg

A. Logan: So I just learned I have heat damage after watching your videos. I never knew this so it is shocking to me. I'm new to having to take care of my hair by myself and I am clueless. I don't know what kind of hair type I have but I can describe it. I have shoulder length very thick hair. I have heat damage so in the middle it is very straight and like the ends are curly. sadly I do have split ends and breakage. I use to always straighten my hair because it was easier to handle. The salon I would go to would use a lot of heat and I never knew the effects if what I was doing I have given up hope before on my hair and let go. it also gets very dry easily and the curls never last. Do u have any tips or ideas on ways I can try and restore/fix my hair.!!!! this is just a guess but I think my hair is in the 3 or 4

Kayla’s Koils: I have some heat damage but I'm transitioning out of it. I refuse to or better yet just can't part with my heat damage right now. Especially since it's finally growing. Other than that my struggle was not having any growth but it was bc I wasn't putting anything in my hair at all. No leave in, oil, dc, nothing. And then I had the nerve to wonder why my hair wasn't growing lol now that I focus on moisturizing my hair it's growing. I went from shoulder length to BSL in a year and a half which was amazing since I was stuck at shoulder length for 2 years

Michenelle: What should I do? I’m really trying to grow my damaged hair out but in the whole back my hair was so damaged that it fell out. I basically have short patches of hair with a few straight strands coming from those patches. Should I just shave all my hair off ?

Ogechi U.: It’s been a whole year since my curls don’t want to come back ☹️ I don’t want to cut it... my hair used to be goals, and it’s already getting shorter.

COREYLA: My situation: so i have naturally fine textured hair (as in definitely not thick, but not extremely thick either) so it's not really possible to just regularly put my hair in a puff/ponytail/bun/whatever lol it has to be a good day for me to be able to do it. My hair can also get dry pretty easily and i have tons of fairy knots and split ends but the only way I can get rid of them is via going to the hair salon and the ones in my state (delaware) aren't all that and i always end up with heat damage somehow so i'm not with that. Also, i'm in my early teens (14) so i am not trusted yet to cut my hair on my own. So, please, if anyone has any tips on how to maintain moisture, and get thicker hair and all that good stuff for my situation i'd love to hear it!!!

MyCrownOfCurls: You and your hair are absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing these great tips!

Erin Rollins: My mom and sister didn't really do my hair so when I was nine started flat ironing my hair every day

Ashley Latson: Hey, I did a slick press about a year ago and I'm paying the price for it now. The back of my hair has straight parts and I don't feel any new growth. It's literally straight parts at some of the roots. Any tips?

So after that my hair wasn.t reverting to natural which it usually did do in the past! Instead I was getting new growth that was really kinky!
