What'S up guys Mike here, my man, TV? Thank you so much for coming back to my channel. I am so excited for today's video. It has been about a month or so in the planning, and I have been experimenting a lot to create this video for you today. So, as you can tell from the title of the video it's gon na be about how to make your own cold based pomade at home, I have been kind of experimenting, doing research testing for about six weeks or so on, a DIY pomade and I have narrowed It down to a very simple process using only three ingredients that will help you make a semi-decent coal-based, pomade, I'm going to show you guys the ingredients, I'm going to show you guys step-by-step, how I made the pomade to help you guys do it at home and Then we will also get into a giveaway that I have at the end of this video. So, let's get started the ingredients I'm going to be using today are petroleum, jelly, castor oil, natural beeswax and some orange essential oils. Let'S get started. What I have here is just a normal pot with some water in it. I got it cranked up to about medium heat. Now, I'm gon na add my double boiler here. This is just a little Tendo boiler that I got off Amazon. It'S actually the perfect size for the stuff that I'm making wasn't very expensive, and it's got these little pouring spouts on the sides which make it super convenient. We are now going to add our beeswax. Now. If I was doing this professionally, I would weigh it all out and kind of do it all professionally. But since I'm just doing this for fun, I'm just going to do it economically and use a teaspoon. And I'm going to put about five teaspoons of my beeswax pellets in the double boiler. That'S four and there's five. Now that's going to melt fairly quickly, okay, so here's what we're left with you can see. The wax has melted down all the way to a liquid form. Now for this I'm going to match the same amount of beeswax to petroleum, so it's going to be five teaspoons, so there's the petroleum in there now, I'm not let that melt down. Just like the beeswax, I'm going to stir it a little bit at this point, because it's going to melt down a lot quicker than the beeswax did now we want to put less castor oil in than the other two ingredients. So like the way it comes out when you put too much in there, so I'm going to only add about four in there instead of five and then I'm going to just keep stirring. So at this time I'm actually going to take it off of the burner set it on the stove lit, let it sit there for about a minute and then we'll go in with the fragrance all right. So at this point it's been sitting for about a minute and a half, and I'm going to go in with the fragrance now and, like I said, the fragrance I'm gon na be using is an orange, essential oil, and this is such a small amount. Only about two ounces: you really don't need a lot of fragrance. It'S really easy, I think, to overpower it with the fragrance, so I'm actually not even going to fill the tea spoon spoon up with the oil it's almost full, but not quite, and then you just dump it in there and then I like to take my fork And just stir it that's about it now we're gon na now we're going to pour it. So I like to pour it at kind of a medium pace, not too slow, but not too fast either, and I think that that really comes out good and from there we are just going to let it sit. It does not take long to set probably about 10 15 minutes, particularly cool okay. I think we're you check out our product here, so it's completely hardened. As you can see it's not liquid anymore. It'S now been transformed into kind of a more visible pomade type texture. The breakdown, on the hand, is very much like a traditional based. Pomade comes out nice. You can feel it's not too sticky, but it does have some grip, so not bad for only three ingredients, alright guys, so there we have it. I hope you guys enjoyed this video and learning how to make your own pomades at home I'll, be interested to see how your guys's pomades turn out. Shoot me a comment in the comment section down below. Modern Man TV: if you are finding this video in January 2017 I have just uploaded a new video examining the brewing process of an unorthodox waterbased pomade as requested. Enjoy-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8edhMs2LLc

lovegorgeoushair: Awesome video! All the ingredients used is also used in chapsticks and moisterizers. You can use this for your lips and skin if it feels dry =)

Booted Boy: Hey Mike, I am tuning in from Atlanta, GA and I am a huge pomade enthusiast and have always thought about making my own. Thanks for the video and keep 'em coming.

Aaron Tran: Awesome vid Mike, I'm from Canada and I've been really getting in to the pomade world lately. Coming from the salon type hair products and getting this would really help me expand my experience with the pomade world.

nickdaawgg: Found out about your videos on EP and I enjoy your modern take on videos and also enjoy that you're not just set on pomade reviews only. It's always a pleasure watching your videos because you can genuinely see how excited you are and they fun you're having making these videos. Ps I'd love that prelude, I don't own a colab pomade yet.

Gnome Beard: I made something very similar. I used beeswax, BTMS-50, hemp seed oil, cocoa butter, castor jelly and bentonite clay. The clay helps keep it matte. Just melt all ingredients and in the end add the clay and keep stirring. Stir until thicken and scoop into your container. Do not use a aluminum or metal container because it will deactivate the clay. Also it's best to use a thermometer and never let it go above 180 degrees. At around 90 degrees add the essential oils or fragrance oils.

Steven Bettez: Hey man! Great video! I live in Coventry, Rhode Island and have been using pomades for a little over a year. That being said, I've never tried a clay pomade. I've heard awesome things about Prelude, and I'd like to really try this stuff out! Thanks man! Keep making videos dude

Modern Man TV: Hello! Thank you to all that is viewing this video! I've been getting a lot of questions lately related to this video. I am not a formal pomade maker, I simply found a way to make a very easy one using three ingredients. I did however team up with a real pomade homebrewer to make a Joker themed pomade called clown prince. If you check some of my recent videos you can see more info about it or find it at my etsy shop while it's still in stock Joker themed hair pomade! https://www.etsy.com/shop/ModernManTV

Jeremy Velez: Nice vid Mike! im watching from California and you should pick me because my taste for pomade has really been evolving these past couple of months and im always looking for new products to try. i went from using basic gel pomades like Suavecito and Layrite to more high end quality pomades like Lockharts and Goon Grease, etc. :D

Anthony Smiley: Actually use Lanolin instead of the jelly. Helps alot with moisturizing everything and has a good styling property as well

xHibachi24x: Hey brother! I watch a bunch of different pomade reviewers, and I happened to find your channel today. I LOVE that you released this video because all the other DIY pomade videos aren't good in my opinion. I was extremely surprised that you are barely at 2k subs because I can tell from the 5 videos I've watched that you have high-quality content. The production and editing of your videos reminds me of Gary G from WesternGent because the two of you mix in awesome music with an engaging personality. I wish you the best, and I can safely say that you're already ahead of the many other reviewers I watch in terms of quality. Lastly, that would be AWESOME if you could do a tutorial on how to do unorthodox pomades because I can't find anything on how to make them online.

Gerardo Cardenas: Great video!! This video was very interesting to watch and will try this with a few tweaks and I'm from California and would love to try the prelude product don't really have enough to buy these more expensive products and have only tried the beeswax mister pompadour and thank you for reading this comment and giving me a chance .

Ryan Liew: good looking pomade greetings from Malaysia! I would definitely be happy if you picked me as the winner of this clay, i live very far from where this clay was made so its kinda impossible for me to actually get my hands on one of em without spending a whole load of money on shipping and the product itself. winning this giveaway would be a blessing for me to try out this clay, thank you.

JR Buffington: Mike great video. I just made a diy beard balm and came out amazing.

Vishal Potluri: Such a quality video man, the quality just keeps getting better! Im from Australia, where not too many American pomades are available to purchase. I was always interested to try a hair product that has received good reviews and as to why I don't just order the products online, I'm not too sure about which product to purchase and the shipping cost+ product cost is too much for me at the moment(Uni) and I would love to get a hair product to try out. Keep up your videos man, looking forward to more awesome videos!

Daniël Rabani: Hi man, really interesting video. Based on your knowledge, which ingredients are neccesary to make a wet look strong hold shiny (all together) in one pomade??

Danthemooncow: Hey Mike, been watching you for a while now all the way from Adelaide, Australia! Keep up the awesome content! I desperately need some o dat prelude because i need more pomade and the one I made turned out like shit

Maaz Mansoor: Awesome man!!!I tried making a small amount of pomade today thanks to this.prolly like 1 oz just to try it out.scented it with lavender essential oil which I added too much and now the whole place smells like lavender unless the jar is shut tightly

Juan F. Rosati: hey there! I'm happy to see your channel growing. I'd love to win the giveaway cause I'm interested in start using pomades given I'm more into waxes and clays so it'd be good to go for a change. cheers from Argentina

jesse minielly: Great video and great channel. I'm watching from Canada and would love to try prelude, I missed it when it came out! Keep up the good work, sir!

Arthur Nguyen: Are there downsides to melting ingredients in the microwave? (intervals of 15 sec followed by stirring everything together)

makcikeropokaka: Hey! Great video.. Does your pomade feels greasy/oily or does it feels more like water-based?

Willow Huxley: hi, I am thinking about making pomade for my boyfriend. I saw ingredients with shea butter, beeswax and jojoba oil. But I think they might not give a creamy texture I want. But your recipe looks perfect and creamy. Is it because you used petroleum gel? Can you tell me what other recipes you have tried out but not as good as this one? Thanx!
