Hi everybody, it's Amy at crafty cat and I'm here to do a flip through of the um fall mushrooms Journal. Sorry, just trying to get my lights. Hopefully so you can see better, it's very dark and cloudy and rainy and yucky today. So I don't have a lot a lot of light in this room um. What was I gon na say? Oh we'll do a little project afterwards too, but first, this journal measures eight and a half by six, and it has a very small spine, which probably was not smart on my part. It'S about an inch spine um, because, even though I ripped out a ton of pages, remember how I did um flip two rip out. 10 flip two rip out 10.. I did that all the way through, I only had about um 20. These were like double Pages. Two pages together, but I only had about 20 when I was finished and so um yeah. It just got very fat with the ephemera and stuff, so anyways there's our little topper. And so, if you don't like a gator mouth, this is not the journal for you, because this is definitely gatormouth and you don't want to squeeze it because you'll pop the spine back here so um yeah, it's real important that it, you know, maybe sits on a Shelf somewhere or something like that, because you're not gon na, be able to stack anything on top of it or anything um. This was the little topper that we made together out of corrugated, cardboard and there's Fabric, and I cut this uh mushroom here out of uh from my glowforge um after I used paper covered it with fabric um, cut it out out on the glowforge and then ran Stitches on it in the sewing machine, so that's that and then we had a little stitched cluster of strip of fabrics there and then the outside you'll remember. In the last video we did a tissue paper and some Tim Holtz, which is still tissue paper on there to get that effect. Using oh lots of questions on this because I forgot to show you guys: I just have this Cheapo decoupage mat and it I wouldn't call it matte, like I probably wouldn't buy it again because it works excellent. I mean this came out fabulous. I just don't like the shine, and so that's not matte in my opinion, because I don't know if you can see on the camera, but it has a little shine. I mean it's not horrible, it's not like glossy or anything, but it just has more shine than I would like. I need to get more matte medium. I just got that you know to try it so anyhow, that's that and then we open it and we have. This is one of the Toads from my croak digital download, so um, that's where that and the bug come from and then this is the fall mushrooms. Digital download and there's just all different collage on here I put all different kinds of paper: here's some embossed paper and music paper and whatnot, and then there's a little pocket here, made out of book page and some little journaling cards tucked in there with some mushrooms On and um like this one, that's not book page. These are made out of Manila file folder. I forgot. I had some scraps of that left. This is made out of book page so yeah, just using whatever I got, but the the pocket is made out of book page and that has been collaged on with the front pieces of, oh, my goodness so sorry um, you know book page and all different. All different book pages and things like that: okay and then we have some writing space here. Here'S one of my collage mushrooms that I cut out of a master board and just did a little collage here with some flowers and then here's another pocket. This is one of the mushrooms. That'S in my shop they're die cut on my glowforge. They start out just craft colored cardstock. I just backed it so that it could be written on and just did all kinds of Tim Holtz, inks and things on there to get that kind of painterly effect, and then here's one of our little book, page tags that you can write on this is just One piece of book page with the end folded this way and the other end folded that way towards to the middle. To make a little. You know a little writing spot tucked right in there Turn the Page and we have Carol laws, fabulous flippy pockety thing here, but that took me a minute to figure out, but there's lots of writing space, as you can see, because I just put plain papers in Here and there's a couple different kinds of paper: some that I've just spattered and some that are um actual paper - that I got from Amazon. But this is from the kit and the little mushroom here, a little collage and that just slips in this belly band to hold it and that flips over that. But that's a lot of writing space in that little little pocket there and you probably could do a little writing up here. If you wanted to and then this I would consider this a lot more like an art Journal necessarily than a writing journal. Just because there is just a lot of artwork in it, so it's kind of more of an art piece, I would say I mean definitely right in it. There'S definitely room too right. It'S just not going to be page after page of of writing. Nice collage here with some of my master board, uh collage, mushrooms and different collage papers down here so yeah. That'S that and then here's another one of the. I think this is in my Ribbit digital download, which is my frogs instead of toads. That might be a toad. I don't even know. I just drew them, because I liked them. I found images of frogs and toads and just drool so anyways, there's that and that's backed with some paper from my croak digital and then there's another little pocket here with one of the little cards from the fall mushrooms, digital and this just is the pocket there. The pocket there and the tuck behind so it doesn't open up or anything like that. It'S just that's how that one is that one goes in there, because it's smaller goes back here, okay and then over here we have a decorated or an altered paper clip. So it has a tag on this side too, but you can see the paper clip on this side, this side it's hidden and then there's a fun little tag there tucks in and then this is a good riding spot and then, of course, you can write on The back of the tag, another fun collaged mushroom, with some collage at the bottom and then one of our pockets. This is a three sort of a three-tiered pocket or two tier. I guess um journaling card there and another one in this pocket. So there's two pockets but they're large card there, and most of this is all just my collage work and then the digital here these leaves have been glued on to the background paper and then one of my toads from my croak digital, a little bit of my Bingo bits and some other alphabet scrapbook paper back there and then here we have trying to stay in camera here, a flip made from a window envelope. So there's one of my envelope. Here'S some of the mushrooms that I cut out using my stencil, my mushroom stencil and 23. There nice big number, and so I just put little bits of fabric and um all different bits of papers that I used or just went well with this um journal and there's a mushroom there there's a pocket here with a nice big journaling card, and this was Also done using the stencil um, that's in my shop, the mushrooms, but long. I think this is this: the shorter one I can't remember, if that's a part or the middle piece of the smaller one, but anyways it's those mushrooms that are in the stencil that and then this is the double sort of flip pocket. So it flips like that and then inside there are journaling cards and they've all been stitched and has fabric little clusters on top. This is Edith Holden book page that I just cut the toadstools out of one of my uh toads there and a mushroom of course, and Tim Holtz bug. Okay and then these are pages from the digital that I just shrunk down: here's a nice riding spot and then a very large journaling card lots of room to write there tucks in here all sewn around again with clustery fabric on top little cluster there, and then This page flips open, there's toad mushrooms these this is Tim Holtz mushroom, and then this is from my um, oh, my goodness torn paper and ferns digital download. That'S an older one. I can remember for the life of me what the name of that was for a minute there, so that just tucks in there I need to put a little glue under that see. This is why we do flip through so that we can see any little things that need to get fixed before it goes off. It'S catching on that, so I want to make sure that leaf is well glued. So how you don't doing, I didn't even say hello and hi, and how you doing rude man, I'm bad about that. Sometimes I just jump right in I get so excited and I wanna show you guys so sorry about that. That was rude, but there's that little journaling card in there and then this is that long uh. This was one of the. I think this was a book page pocket originally yeah. It was and um I just covered it with different papers. There'S a long tag there that can be written on and then it opens and there's another large or long skinny tag and more mushrooms and spatter, and you can right here. This is actually a good writing page, because there's lots of writing space between this and that little paper clipped his hair created. My little paper clip go there. It is so that Clips on so that could go anywhere. You know like if you don't want it there. You can put it somewhere else and then there's also a large pocket here with a piece of paper. That'S cut kind of like a tag. That'S just some of my spattered coffee die and water stuff, like that, I was trying to at this point. I was like this thing is getting way too fat, so I was trying to make thinner. You know, thinner pieces to go in the pockets. Okay, that's more of the Fall mushrooms, digital and here's, some collage work and a little pockets and there's all collage work back behind as well and place to right here and here's a couple of tags been in my folder. There good places to write, and then this little paper clip comes off and this folds down, and you can write on the inside of this pocket here and there's also two journaling cards there and those come with the fall mushroom digital download and then this little paper Clip kind of has to go back in the same spot where it was because I left the glue off on that little part of the pocket, because it's glued up at the top and it's glued down on this part. But that little spot is where there's no glue and here's another one of our folded book pages to make a pocket and in the pocket is a journaling card and then there's a coin envelope, and it has just another piece of paper that has been folded so That you can ride on it and some collage there, so this is pretty thin and lightweight this particular piece again. I was working on trying to keep it a little more flat. At this point I mean I like big fat journals too. I just. I just hope that other people like this as well and then here's a tag there and then here's a journaling card with another one of the collage mushrooms. On that look. That'S right. There'S a little tuck here with a little tag and this one opens so there's a little more space to write. It goes in there and then this page, the bottom folded up on this page. So there's a pocket there and another little tag here, and then this is just a piece of Tim, Holtz ephemera that I tucked in there, because it's kind of fun the nature, the look of it and these toadstools are in pink. Those are in the croak digital. As well they're, either in the rivet or the croak, and then here's another pocket, the journaling card and nice mushroom there, the ladybug and this pocket has a pocket right here too. So I just put a long piece of spattered um paper, coffee, dyed paper and stamp. Some of the Tim Holt leaves on it, and so you can still write on the back of that one. So it's kind of a nice, it's a thin, thinner, piece: okay and there's a nice writing spot, and these pop out here. Oh, did I not get these sunroom we'll see there? You go those need to get sewn around. I thought I did that, but did not so I'll do that leave those out. I need to do this one over here too, and then here's a card tucked behind that little spot that also needs sewn around, and this little deal opens up. You can right here right there right on your journaling cards. These ones are sewn around. So there's just lots of goodies, even though there isn't or are a lot of pockets. I think there's a lot of writing space too myself. This fun little pocket with the pieces of guest check made into tags. This is a altered playing card and just a couple tags. This is from my croak digital with some extra paper there, another piece with a collage mushroom. Oh, please go back here huh and that's that paper bag uh pocket that we made that was hellofresh paper bag is what that was and writing space here. You can see us trying to keep it flat and then that's the back. It is signed with the year on it, and then this is just all collaged using the paper from the kit and some paint paper and scripty paper. So that is it. So I am going to clean all this up and then we will work on a little project, I'll be right. Okay, I am back so what we're gon na do is play around with this type of thing, and this is not my idea, I'm sure you guys have seen people paint on book page using watercolor. You know whatever type of paint they're using um. One thing I did do which uh but I painted the green, leaves after I painted the red berries, and so I got you know color coming into those. So these ones I did the green leaves first, let them dry and then did the red berries. Obviously much smarter way to do that. I just sketched some quick, um, Holly and berries to try it out just to see what I got. I think it might work better on some um gessoed book page, so we're going to try that for the ones that we're going to do and if you don't like the way you draw or whatever you can use, stencils or stamps or you know. However, you would like to make just some simple little designs to use. I thought they'd be fun on like book page Pockets or things like that for Christmas, so and it'd be fun to like spatter this with white, to give it that snowy effect or whatever you can do lots of things you could just do Mark making. If you wanted to like we've done in the past, maybe in colors for Christmas or whatever, so I thought what might be fun is to draw some mushrooms. So that's what we'll do I just have a black Sharpie pen and this one's up. I think it's a 0.05 I'm not even sure it doesn't even sound. You can see, it's got ink all over it, but fine. It just says fine, so anyways, it's not a large tip how's that so we're just gon na draw our blobs. As you know, mushrooms are very sort of Blobby they're, not um, perfect and they don't and then and don't think they have to be like um. You may feel like. Oh, I can't draw, but you probably can draw mushrooms just fine because they're, you know they're just a simple shape: they're, not a complex thing that you have to have a lot of detail and really like. I don't think anybody's gon na say uh that doesn't look like a mushroom. It'S pretty easy to get it to be something that someone recognizes as a mushroom. If you know what I mean so anyhow, don't beat yourself up, don't think really hard on it, because I mean you don't have to it's just needs to be a Blobby sort of a shape. It doesn't have to be anything fancy and see. I'M doing they're different they're, not the same, so it's fine, you don't have to make them identical to each other. Then maybe we'll just do some simple circles and I cannot draw a perfect circle at all. So I don't feel that you have to do that. Just you know small circles floating around that you could maybe do in colors for Christmas or, if you don't celebrate Christmas at all, this would just be a fun thing to do to decorate your journals. Sometimes it's just fun to sort of have that painterly effect or that hand-drawn look in your journals or any of your fun. Like artworks, you know, maybe you make cards or whatever. Sometimes it's fun, just to have a simple hand-drawn type thing on it. Trying to think do I want one kind of like upside down: go through a few more circles, Circle knot, circles, some sort of shape, I'm all sort of right side up here, so just have fun with it. Don'T stress sorry, I get real quiet when I do this type of stuff. This probably isn't a good thing for me to do and make a video, but I wanted you guys to see like you: don't have to have a lot of expensive things or whatever you can. Just you know kind of make your own fun papers for your Christmas decorating, crafting kind of the guys that one was weird right there, huh and they're all going to be different. I mean there's no way that I I'm not a computer. I can't draw the same exact um way every time and in fact, mine's, usually they're, all quite different. My handwriting is even like that looks like a different person wrote for me all the time, but I think mushrooms are a great thing to draw because they don't have to. You know be anything in particular really as long as you have the basic gist of the shape they're great they're, perfect. Let'S do some little just dots like so okay, so you get the idea. I would keep going fill up the whole piece of paper there. Foreign would like, and then we just have our watercolors, which I did spray earlier when I was doing the other thing that we're gon na Spritz them down again, just so they're nice and wet and use this paintbrush, it's tiny, but it seems to work quite well. These are arteza um. This is a one inch round or one round. I don't know, that's that's not an inch but anyways. However, they do that. I don't really know I'm not I'm not a water colorist. If you see me water coloring, I am just playing so I'm sure there are people that cringe whenever I get out the watercolors, but I am a complete novice at this whole water coloring thing I used to do some acrylic painting, but that's even been so long Ago my painting skills are not great anymore, but it's fun. So that's all that matters, especially for Christmas crafting right and you just want to like maybe get together with your family members just have some fun. This would be a fun thing to do. You could, even if you wanted to do it on large pieces of paper for um wrapping paper, would be kind of fun to make mushrooms on your wrapping paper or even do cut these out like doing bigger, cut them out and have them as your two from Little pieces little cards, I think that would be fun. That'D be cute. Have a mushroomy Christmas might do that something different right: foreign yeah! It'S been kind of a crazy wild week, foreign, like I told you, guys, uh my car, the computer's going out or something I don't know. I haven't, got that all figured out yet um you'll probably see this video on Thursday, I'm just making videos. I don't know when I'm gon na post them yet but um if it's Thursday I'll be taking the car in that day and then uh Theron up at school got accused of cheating on his midterm, even though he did not it's in his computer science class, which That'S his best class um. I guess there was a whole group of people cheating and what ended up happening was. The professor was just trying to figure out who was cheating and who wasn't so he had Theron come in and he gave him a piece of paper and had him answer a question in front of him and all the steps and all that and Darren could do It without any problem, and so he got all his points for his midterm. Thank goodness, but that's just something you don't ever want to be accused of in college, especially I mean ever period, especially if you're, not cheating but um, because that can affect that follows you. The whole rest of the time that you're in school, so that was a big who ha, but luckily the professor did what he did and allowed out there and to come in and show that he he knew how to do it. He wasn't cheating. So I guess what happened was um Theron does his work um in another program or something on his computer? I don't totally understand because all that stuff's like over my head, but anyhow he copied and pasted it onto where his test was. You know after he did. The work and so because it had been copied and pasted, that's what made the teacher think that which that's understandable I get that totally um, especially because he had a bunch of kids doing things like that uh. So anyway, he's not supposed to do that anymore. He has to do it all with on the same part of the program or whatever, to answer the questions so and that's no problem because he knows how to do that. It'S just um. He was just doing his work in one spot and answering the questions in another, but anyway talk about stressful, so I'm just taking some different colors of green. You know like kind of a lighter green for all over and then just add it a little darker in the middle. It'S probably best, if you can let them dry, like I talked about before, because if you uh get that mixed up, it's a big mess. So I'm trying not to touch the berries at all but yeah. That was super stressful because I knew we didn't cheat. He is never cheated before, like he's just never had a reason, because he's always been a good student, he um doesn't generally like he wouldn't feel the pressure to do. That is what I'm trying to say so anyways I was like you cheating and computer science of all things. I I don't think so, his math class that he's been struggling with the maybe, but I don't think he'd ever cheat anyway, but you know what I'm saying he's not going to cheat in the class that he doesn't have any struggling whatsoever uh. I was like well if they are, if people are cheating or if you were cheating, you should get in trouble for it, because that's that's not right, but when you're not cheating, that's not a good thing to be accused of, and then the school called me from. My daughter's school and said they found her phone and it was at the Student Union building and I was like well where the heck is she so that worried me a little bit. She just left it somewhere, which I figured, but that's not. She doesn't really do that, like that's, not something she's done before so she's been stressed, though she's had a whole lot going on so anyways, but that was like weird call to get. I was like huh, okay. Well, let me see if I can figure out how to get a hold of her. It'S been a week. You know you know, y'all been there. Y'All been there on those weeks when you're, like uh why'd, I even get out of bed yeah sort of what it's been like. Just look at this pinky color oopsie, okay, I'm gon na get this dry and then I'll come back and I'll kind of show you how I do the pin part okay, I am back so I'm so sorry. The light is just not good in here today. I guess I'm gon na have to get used to it. It'S back to that sort of winter thing, but anyhow, I'm going to use some white acrylic. This is a little bit watered down, but I mean I don't. I think, it'll work just fine. Instead of the pin, I was going to use the pen, but I think this will cover better because like right there I got that red blob. So I'm just gon na do that and these really don't even have to be painted, but you definitely can to make them stand out a little bit more paint in here a little bit that type of thing, and then you can put some little um. There'S still a little bit a few uh wet spots and then I'm just gon na put, I drew a little indents in my berries, but I'll just do like that. That way, they'll show up even better, and these could even have a little white dots on them. That one got a little big, but that's okay, sorry! I was just listening because I don't know what is going on next door. Oh it's always something banging and crashing. I don't know, but obviously you know if you're doing this on your own. Take your time and I'm just trying to kind of give you guys an idea of you know what you could do so mine aren't exactly as neat as they probably could be, and you wouldn't necessarily have to paint the bottom of these like I'm doing, because really It doesn't make any difference too big, okay, so I'm gon na set that aside and then I have like see. This is the kind of tag thing I was talking about this one I made sloppy because I was trying to hurry and paint it, so I could show you guys now. I have red but obviously take your time. I mean a little bit of the watercolor out of the lines, looks kind of cool, but um. This doesn't look real cool if you get it messed up and in the case of if you're going to use the white paint like this, you don't even have to draw those little black circles, because you could just put the dots on afterwards. You know what I mean and then have a little two from RIT, so just an idea to do some fun little decorating for your journal and, like I said, um might be fun to add to Pockets or whatever like. If you didn't want to do it like this, like a whole piece of paper, you just wanted a few mushrooms to cut out fussy, cut and add to something, because you could totally like cut that one out and put it on a pocket or um. You know on another tag or whatever so anyway, just an idea. I hope you guys enjoyed it and thank you so much for following me, through with the um altered book. I know that was kind of a long process. It always is with an altar book. So if you do your own, don't feel like. Oh my gosh, this is just taking me forever. They do they just take longer. I think it's because you're um, covering every page with um. You know the decorative paper. Unless you don't do it that way. If you wanted to just uh, leave a lot of the pages, the way they were in gesso them, you could do that too. So, um yeah, just thanks for hanging out with me. I really appreciate you guys and I love you and I'll - see you again soon. Bye
