Putting layers into hair extensions is easy if you follow these simple rules.. The first rule to remember is that extensions are not put in the same way that natural hair grows. They are going to be installed in rows. So if you cut layers as rows, they are really going to stand out.. So what we are going to do is we are going to compensate for that by finding where we want our layers to start and where we want them to end.. Now you can see that this hair is all one length, so we need to change that., And since we know that we need to fudge in the layers, we are simply going to start and it doesn't matter where you start.. We are going to pull up some of that hair and then we are going to use a slide, cutting motion to take out some of that hair and create some false layers.. Now you are going to do this by feel.. You can start to see where these layers are going to come. Out. Layers are all going to be done by feel., So make sure that you stop and check to the side, often to see where your layers are coming in. At. Continue working until you have all of your layers in place.. If you have done your layering properly, no matter where you pick up your extensions, you will have your shorter ends, tapering into your longer ends.. This should be consistent, all the way across the head., And if you follow these rules, you will have perfect layers every time.

Killer Bunny 〈3: This video was exactly what I needed! I love how direct and simple all your videos are. :) Would you use the same technique on synthetic extensions?

easternhair: that was a very clean and precise tutorial! Thank you!

missbrenn: Does this process differ at all when cutting wavy/curly extensions? Do you recommend straightening the hair first, or is there a different trick to it?

glamyourhair: Awesome job some stylist don't understand that cutting extensions is different that cutting hair growing from your scalp. You made this simple.

Doctored Locks: Thanks! It's amazing how many bad layers are out there! Hopefully we can get them all fixed up. :)

Doctored Locks: I don't generally recommend straightening curly hair to cut it UNLESS you plan on wearing it straight - then by all means straighten it. If not, use the same techniques but do it as the curls will generally lay. So if you plan on just air drying, then cut them just after air drying etc. You can always straighten it and refine your lines as needed. :)
