Hi guys welcome back to my youtube channel. If you see me for the first time, i'm intentional fever and on this channel, i share my life experiences on issues pertaining to faith, lifestyle studying abroad and social work. So please, if you like, to join us, feel free to join the family click the red subscribe button below, as well as notification bell, so that i get notified each time. I upload new videos until my amazing returning subscribers. Thank you guys for always coming back to watch my videos so guys as you've seen the title already in this video i'll be sharing a very unpopular opinion, yeah uh right now. We are the month of july and uh. This july people are already getting ready to come people coming in for september, even people coming in january. Okay, it's still not too early to prepare, but i know for september um people people coming in september intake, i know by now people have gotten their cars. People have applied for their visa, other people, they've gotten their visa already and they're just getting things by the way. In case you are new to the channel um before now. I have so many videos about coming to the uk things you need to know, for instance, the things to pack things not to bring all of those processes you might like them just check the playlist title studying abroad. On my in my channel and then um, you might find those videos useful, but in this particular one as you are getting ready, i want to um debunk um an opinion. I just want to an opinion yeah the advice that is general that is commonly given to people coming abroad, and that is about learning skills before coming abroad, not just uk anywhere going abroad. Uk us canada, wherever learning skill. Once i understand the importance of this advice, it's very very good for you to have skills, but the reason for this video is for me to tell someone out there. You don't need to mount unnecessary pressure on yourself about learning a skill before coming. Now, probably you have like me before coming to the uk yeah. I know it's not the best, but i have no skill. Okay, all my years in the uni i could have okay. No, i actually tried. I did try to learn um fashion. Designing i did. I paid for i tried, but at the end of the day i never practiced um, probably in a separate video. Maybe i should say now. Sometimes i feel like this issue of getting a skill is sometimes overrated. Okay, yeah. I understand the importance. Don'T get me wrong. I know why people are advocate for learning skills, but, let's be honest, learning skills. When i mean skills, i mean hard work, okay, it's not for everybody iphone. I believe it's not for me. Okay, you know sometimes, maybe because of how the country is talking about nigeria or some african countries or some countries of the world. That'S why people give that advice i understand, but rather than that, i believe that if you have a career path - and you know what you want to do - and things fall in favor for you, i know sometimes our plan. You know we plan, there's this saying that man propose, god dispose or something like that, but i know sometimes things don't usually work out the way we plan it by the end of the day. It still depends on other factors: okay, so learning skills. Maybe that's one opinion, i'm debunking now you don't actually, oh i'm contradicting, don't essentially have to get a skill. Why? Because of this same opinion, this same advocacy for learning skills. When i was doing my undergraduate studies in nigeria, i went and learned how to make clothes. I learned fashion design i made few clothes then i actually learned, if you ask me, but believe me all those things they are gone. You know when you leave something, it leaves you so i've forgotten everything about making dress. I can't do anything i can't even do maybe get scared. I might still remember how to, but if i watch a youtube video, my memory is like it should come back. Okay, but i don't see myself seeing clothes. Okay, i believe there are people that make clothes. That'S their career actually gon na patronize them. They are there for us people, of course, that don't anyways, that's my opinion. Let me leave this disclaimer now, please everything i'll be saying in this particular video. They are my opinion, based on my experiences. I'M not saying that it's straightforward life is not usually that straightforward. There are always segments and branches, so everything i'm saying is not like. That is the verdict. That'S not the final okay feel free to add your opinion. In the comment section feel free to do what you want, but i'm sure that this video will be useful to one or two persons, so that opinion about learning a skill, especially hairdressing. I'M here to tell you guys, you don't need to put that pressure on yourself. Don'T learn hairdressing before coming to the uk, especially as an international student in this video i'll, be giving you guys the reasons why i said so using myself as a reference point, just like you um, i myself also. I was also given the same advice that i should go and learn hairdressing before coming to the uk. It was like an instruction, an opinion and i heated to it. I went and registered. I can't remember how many thousand naira i paid. I bought the drinks, the biscuits, you know all of those things that you do now yeah. I did all of that, and i think i learned that for two months two three months, i'm not sure it was up to three months, because that was kind of very of like few months before my traveling and um i just had to because i was through This very important people say: oh yeah, making hair abroad um it's very expensive. You can make money by making people's hair. They see. All of that, that's true i'll, give you an example: okay to make simple braid like this okay. This is a simple braid to make this hair. The least you can get this hair in the uk is 80 pounds. That'S the standard, the least the least you can get anywhere in the uk. I'M not talking about discount. You can get someone that can give you this town price, probably for friendship, reasons or family reasons, but normally, if you go to a hairdresser, nobody will make this hair less than 80 pounds. That'S the least people will collect the least. This hair can cost 100 pounds. 120 pounds and in some places up to 150 pounds. So when you hear that they are not actually lying down, they are telling you the truth of how expensive it is to make hair abroad. In case you are also coming here so that you prepare your mind ahead of time what it's like to make hair now, because of that. I know if you're in nigeria, if you're in africa - and you hear this kind of amount by default. The first thing that you do is to go ahead and convert it to naira yeah when you convert it to narrative, give you a very ridiculous amount and you'll be like what to make hair or then you'll be like wow. That means i can make money. Wow. 80 pounds. Imagine if i make it every day this and that day you go and grab the opportunity to go and learn it, but it's not always the same. It hits difference when you come here. I learned it but since i came here as a matter of fact, i bought my tools before coming. I bought with uh uh, we found uh. What'S it called the brush for brushing the attachment i bought um the cotton comb. I got some even for relaxing hair. I got i got everything i needed for making hair. Yes, i did. That was how prepared i was before coming here and then well, i have never, since i came to the uk made anybody's hair. The reason is this: why i would advise that you shouldn't, if you already have the skills good and fine, when you have the opportunity you can make hair okay or you want to learn it the only consolation. I give myself why i don't regret italy learning that skill is that i feel like i'll be able to make my daughter's hair okay. I will not be so perfect because you know when you leave something it leaves you i've forgotten some of my skills. Actually, when it comes to ghana within, i can still breathe, i can still twist, but i'm going to put it at the root. I'Ve forgotten how to do all of that. I'M not that good um. So but when you come here like i said, it hits totally different guys, it's totally different, because when you come here, let me ask you: when you come to the uk, how many people do you know that you'll be making their hair? You won't most of the people coming to the uk, they barely know anyone. Maybe you know one or two and they're, not even living in the same city where you got admission or where you'll be residing. So what will you do and people here in the uk? Okay, most of the because of how expensive it is to make hair number one, and secondly, because of the not not having the luxury of time to go and sit down and make it people here live on weeks. I bet you if you are coming to the uk, i'm sure you know that one thing you need is to get weeks. If you are a lady, so people here want because it's so expensive to make hair, so they might make their hair once in five months. Once in three months, not everybody do people still make their hair once in a month rising once in two months and don't love that okay, but you still see people they live on weeks. People are always wearing wigs because of how expensive it is, and for most people it's not even about because of how expensive it is, but because they don't have the luxury of time to go and sit down and make hair here. Life is very busy if you're in the uk already you can attest to that. So when you come here, you don't know anybody. So let's say your marketing skills are very, very okay. You can do marketing, but even if it's your fellow students in the same university that you came with everybody comes here prepared people come here with um um, dreads logs and all of that people literally make hair that they can carry for up to two months. Three months, even so, who will you be making here the first few months you come here when you come here, you should focus more on getting all that jobs. There are so many jobs you can get within a few weeks of coming into the uk. That will be your main focus, because if you depend on making have to make a living believe me, you will go hungry here in the uk. So because of that, that's why? I'M advising that you shouldn't put that pressure to god and let you muslim, because when you come here believe me, you may never have opportunity to use that skill. Just like me, your case might be different. Don'T get me wrong, but the chances of you surviving by making people's hair in the uk is very, very slim, very slim. So why would you gon na waste your time and your money you are coming here? You need money to buy some other things. Why waste that money to go and learn? Well, if you have someone that can teach you to your own advantage, go and learn, but the point of this video is don't put so much pressure. It shouldn't be, like you know, do or die. I do or die affair that you must learn how to make hair before coming here to the uk. You must not, because you might not find the opportunity to when you start walking. You are walking. Okay, you don't know what your shift pattern will be. Your studies, you don't know what your timetable will look like. You might not even find time to go and mix someone's hair. So that's the reason really why you shouldn't put so much pressure on yourself. Don'T learn hairdressing if you don't have the skill already don't put pressure on yourself to go and lend this before coming to the uk, because you heard that it is very expensive to make hair and you can make it living out of it. You cannot even people that make it. Let me tell you the truth: people that make it in the uk, they have other jobs, they do their main source of income is not making hair, they do it but and mind you. These are people who already have people, people refer people to them, and sometimes they can be busy okay, but not that they still have other things. They do yeah, and i want to believe this makes sense. Like i said, these are my opinion based on my experiences, and this is not to discourage you in case. You already have the skill, but not to put pressure on yourself trying to go and learn how to make hair, because you are told that it is very luxurious. You can make money by making people's hair here in the uk, and i believe that, with these few points of mind, i've been able to convince you and not confuse you that i don't need to put unnecessary pressure on yourself trying to learn hair making before coming. Here in the uk - and i hope you enjoyed this video guys - please, if you do don't forget to give it thumbs up, let me hear your opinion, i'm really eager to read your comments if you're an influence, then here already in the uk. What are your views about this if you've learned making hair before now? Have you been using that skills tell us about it? Let me hear your opinions, i'm open. I might have to hear your views about this and people. Please read the comments section. Probably you will hear different filipinos and then it can inform your decision about what i have shared in this video. Don'T forget to subscribe to my channel. If you have not share this video with as many people that you think might need it and i'll be seeing you in my next one until then stay blessed remain intentional and take care of your stuff. Bye.

oluwakemi bakare: You are 100% right ✅️. I have been in Uk for some yrs but only made hair for a friend. There are so many jobs to do than waiting for a customer to make hair everyone two months. Knowledge is key.

Cynthia Chukwuji: I didn't specifically go for the skill before traveling. Its been in me. Talking about customers, you don't need to know people. It's referral. I met a lady and made her hair. Since then, people in her cycle of family and friendship have been wanting me to make their hair too but for studies, I don't have time for all of them. It all depends on the availability of Africans in the city. I have met a lot of people on the way who saw my braids and liked it. From discussion, I would just let them know I can make it. And then you see the excitement on their faces. Next is exchange of contracts. But, then. As student, time is the major constraint. Other jobs might pay you more, but it's not all the time one wants to go for those jobs. A lady I met in a shop one day said, she makes hair in her house. Who knows, that might just be what she earns a living from. And people don't remain in a business that is not profitable Summary of all these is, people can learn if it's convenient for them. You never know where you skill will take you. People who have kids and can't go out because of child care can make people's hair while at home. . So skill is never a waste.

Jennifer Umejiuba: I learnt both fashion and makeup, infact I was a professional makeup artist in nigeria before moving here. I did put alot of pressure on myself to start even if it’s hair making in uk but I just could leave my job because that’s the only link for tier 2 sponsorship!! So pls if you are an international student don’t waste your time learning anything because what you need is sponsorship so you need to work with different companies and build your Cv.

Sena Unfiltered: I absolutely agree Favour. Prior to the UK, I went to fashion school as well and did try to start a fashion business back in Ghana. However, between study, part-time work (which makes me more than sewing would have made me given that I am new to the UK with no customer base) I just don't have the time. I haven't even picked up a needle since

Lawrencia Egwu: I have finally seen someone like me, skills isn't for me. Trust me I have tried and I feel it's a lot of pressure mounted on us over here, not having a skill doesn't mean you have failed in life.

Tolulope Ajayi : Thank you for this advice. At least you have allayed my fears. Cos in truth, I don't have any handwork, and people have been making me feel that I'm going to regret not having a handiwork, especially hair making. Thank you sis.

Eniye Projects: You are very right my dear. I can make hair and I can sew but I know those things can't give the kind of money I want. These skills can be acquired as hobbies and sometimes for therapeutic reasons for example knitting.

Adebisi Oluwatosin: Thanks very much for his advice ma’am. Let me go and invest my time into other meaningful things. Thanks very much for the insight once again.

Oluwatobi Dorcas: Intentional Favour always creating intentional content. For a long time, i have had this fear because i am not a handiwork person, especially when people make one feel like you are not doing the right thing.

Nelly Ib: Hi favour, I came across your channel few days ago and I have binge watching. You are truly inspirational. I'm coming to Sheffield in September (as a dependant) and I hope to meet u. Cheers!

Onyinyechi Aguiyi: Making hair is like part time stuff, atleast making my own hair myself is a plus as well. Anyway I’m learning to make hair and on my second month

Dorcas Katuran: Your content are always well informed. well-done keep up the good work.

amaka: You are already glowing just 1 week of hubby coming over. Love is good ooo. On learning skills, I have 3 girls so learnt how to make hair on YouTube. Imagine paying £50 x 3 every month for 3 of them. It was more of a necessity because God blessed me with girls.

Christiana Adeoluwa: Thanks for the video. I agree with your points but if one can, please go ahead and learn. Especially if you have girls like Moi. It will come in very handy.

Tobi Famuyiwa: You have said it all my dear. If you are like me that I am born to DIY, but if you have no skill don’t beat yourself up and follow what you good at. Me personally I make my own hair myself because I don’t even have the time to sit for hours talkless of making for people.

Angela Ujunwa: Dear Favour, Your unpopular opinion is truly a popular opinion. These skills are called survival skills. They are basic and fundamentsl survival skills everybody need. These skills will help you do things yourself and become very handy.

Adebambo Oluwatoyin: I am like you, handwork no be my thing, although I will still try to put eye on hair making cos I have 3 daughters just so I can save money on them, although I don't have enough time again.i will learn for the next one month.Asides that it's career all the way for me.

Judith's Concept: you are making lots of sense with this unpopular opinion, even in nigeria here i hardly had time to sit down and make my hair

JIST WORLD: Thank you for your sincerity

Chinwe Okolie: Chaiii and today someone insulted the living day light out of me cos I was trying to learn hair dressing. I am done ooo

Ayoro Francisca: You have just spoken my mind, thank you so much darling

Mrs Brown: This is what I am trying to do ..learn hairdressing ..Love ur video so insightful

Onyinyechi Okey: Thanks for this o....very important..no pressure

Adventures of a 9ja Guy: It helped a girl in my class in Middlesbrough though.

Naijagurl and her Pops: Please I’m pasting the link to this video on a group now we had this discussion recently. Hope that’s ok?

Opara Fortune28: Thanks sister u just adviced me

Wellness By Maami: Very insightful How is hubby settling in Is all love from here❤️ Remain Bless Peace

Ayomide Fadahunsi: Thank you for this Favour...

Tobi Omi: Have been on this learning things about 1 months now,I Don tired .Thanks so much

Tamunoene Belema: I already know how to bake and can do cake very well, it is even my business. Now I want to come to the UK and was advised to go and learn hair making that hair dressers are making millions of pounds. I enrolled for it and till date no passion for it at all, I just advised myself to stop and save my time for other things. There other ways I can make money in the Uk jorh. I should have used that money to learn driving instead. You’re on point my dear

otito kene: So true

Osarugue Whittaker: It makes sense

Adaeze Ezenwa: Thank you Nne

PathwayUK: Hmmm, I get your point. However, I feel learning vocational skills is essential especially if you don't want to do care or factory jobs in the UK. When I was an international student before transitioning into a dependent on a skilled worker visa my cake decorating skills help me get a part-time job in a cake shop. It was a worthwhile experience and I was earning up to £900 monthly working 20 hours a week. Likewise, I know someone whose vocational skills got the person visa sponsorship and a well-paid job (the person's salary places the person in the 40% income tax bracket) in the UK too. It all depends on the skills you learn. It is good to have photography, videography, writing, design, coding, catering and cake decorating skills in this modern age respective of immigration or not.

NONI'S NEST: Hi Favour, i sent you a DM on Instagram. Please, check it and reply. Thanks.

Idara peter: Omo I started tailoring I couldn't continue again honestly speaking this pressure of learning one skill or the other is tasking no be everybody sef go be business owner! The pressure is just too much

Lady Ann: Skills are not made for me o, am a nurse o but mention that skills i haven't learnt, tailoring, makeup, hair making, baking and what not and i haven't made shishi from all these, maybe the tailoring and it's only when I sew for my sisters. Now i have abandoned them totally and am focus on migrating to UK for now.

Francolp foods: You are not going to have the time to make another person's hair except for your kids. Reason being That if you go and work, you will get more money than stressing yourself to make someone's hair. I make my children's hair, but can't spend time making someone's hair when I will use the time to work and make more money.

Oluwatoyin Ruth: I totally agree with you

mara Diamond: See glowing, hubby doing a great job....

Idara peter: Ahan looking so relaxed and stress free

Sendi - Nanbam Akale: My sister God bless you… Nne…

Ijeoma Enderline: You're looking good ma My regards to your hubby Thanks for this info

prettypat and family: My fevourite God fearing YouTuber, how is ur family doing

Blessed Chizoba: Woww, I thought I am the only one left out. I no get any oo. (Handwork).

fombang relindis enih: Thank you for this video

Jane Obi Uyinmwen: Waited for this information.. lemme go n listen thoroughly. Wd b bk

elekande isaac olugbenga: Pure truth.

kenneth okpako: Lol, nice debate

Arowolo Tope: See as Favour face is smooth because hubby is now in UK. Before your face is always swollen.

MJ: I am in the UK, and I support your opinion because I share the same opinion as you.

Tolulope Ajayi : First here.

fombang relindis enih: Just like me ooo

Kefe: Forth to comment. I cannot come and carry last

Vee Tan: That’s not true saying the least one can make hair is £80, did you go to all the saloons in the uk to get this info, there are places where ppl accept £30 to do braids so pls get your facts right next time…learning these skills are basic survival skills so stop discouraging people jeez!
