Can You Use Regular Hair Products on Synthetic Wigs?

In short, the answer is no. To keep your wig in tip-top condition, it’s always best to use products designed specifically for synthetic wigs to ensure that the fibres of the wig are not destroyed or damaged.

The good news is there are lots of great products that are synthetic wig friendly and sets such as the Ellen Wille complete care set contains all the products you need for styling your synthetic wig, damage-free!

Are There Travel Sized Styling Products For Synthetic Wigs?

Yes! For those who like to travel with multiple wigs, the Dimple Wig Care Travel Pack is a great option that fits in your hand luggage. This compact travel pack includes a shampoo, conditioner, gel spray, oil conditioner and comes in a clear bag to make travelling stress free!

Wash and Brush Your Synthetic Wig

It’s important to take care of washing your synthetic wig in the same way you would when styling it. There are many products that you can use on both human and synthetic hair, make sure always to check the labels and product information and if you are still unsure, ask our friendly and professional team.

Before washing your wig, be sure to gently brush out the hair to get rid of any tangles or knots. Following this, use wig shampoo and conditioner to keep your wig in the best condition possible. We have a detailed and informative guide on washing a fibre or synthetic wig which offers a step by step checklist on gentle but effective washing.

Next, allow your synthetic wig to air dry completely. This will allow your wig fibres to revert to their original state, which gives you a blank canvas to get creative with and style your wig all over again.

Remember: You shouldn’t use any heat on synthetic wigs unless you’ve purchased a heat resistant synthetic wig. So, put the hairdryer down!

Top Tip: Buy Yourself a Spray Bottle

For in-between washes, a spray bottle filled with water is a great way to help refresh a look. After lightly spritzing your wig with cool water, use your fingers to style your wig by smoothing out any frizz and removing any static electricity.

For those with longer wigs, try using your hands to smooth the frizzy parts and then your fingertips to smooth bits toward the end of the wig. If in doubt, to control any frizz or split ends we recommend the Ellen Wille Hairpower Hair Tip Liquid

How to Create the Look You Want

Some people find it easier to style their wig on a wig head or a wig stand to get a 360 view from all sides, whilst others prefer to style their wig whilst wearing it. It’s completely up to you!

For Curly Wigs

1. For wavy or curly synthetic wigs make sure to use short and gentle brush strokes, so the curl remains intact.

2. When it comes to ringlet curls to reduce frizz and manage stubborn strands, our advice is to use a pick comb to gently style.

3. If you are trying to create a smooth and sleek style, you can use light pressure with long strokes of the brush.

For those who like to add a little bit of volume to your look, you should focus on the roots of your wigs and follow these steps:

For a Voluminous Look

1. You can tease or backcomb the underside of individual layers then smooth the strands back on the top.

2. If you are looking for a subtle lift, then simply take your wig brush and softly lift the roots away from the cap.

3. Always remember to use synthetic wig spray to set after you have finished styling.

4. Backcombing is just one of the many ways to add volume to your hair; you could also try blow-drying your wig whilst it’s flipped upside down or use bendy rollers to create volume and gorgeous curls!
