The Guide to Children’s Chemo Hats and Headwear

Children who have alopecia or who undergo chemotherapy can experience hair loss. Of course, this can be upsetting and unsettling for children and can cause them to feel out of place. At Simply Wigs, we’re on a mission to help these brave kids cope with their hair loss by offering headwear pieces, including children’s chemo hats and turbans for children, and providing guidance on how to wear these pieces with comfort. Many of these pieces can be worn with or without a wig, depending on what your child prefers.

The Different Types of Children Headwear

There are lots of options when it comes to children’s headwear, some of the most comfortable and practical options include:

Turbans for children
Headbands for children

Children’s Chemo Hats

Children’s chemo hats are a popular and often crucial item for the comfort and self-esteem of children with hair loss. One of the most popular types of hat for kids is a cap. Wearing a sun cap during the summertime is important for any child, but especially for those experiencing hair loss. Protecting your scalp and face from the sun’s UV rays is vital. However, not every sun cap is designed to feel ultra-comfortable for kids with hair loss.

When choosing a sun cap, we recommend focussing on fabric. A soft, cotton fabric is ideal for comfort in terms of feel and breathability. Also, look for caps with a wide brim and UV protection.

GORGEOUS

The Petite Kangaroo Sun Cap from Christine Headwear is an excellent option that ticks all of those boxes. It’s been designed with hair loss in mind and is made from soft 95% Supima Cotton. This top-quality hat is available in a smart, Black Iris shade which looks great on both boys and girls of any age. It also comes with two pocket-holes for clip-in accessories so your little one can add their own fun, personal touch.

The elastic at the back of the hat ensures a comfortable and secure fit. If your child wants to wear a wig with their hat, this elastic will help to keep everything in place. To protect your wig from tangles and frizz, gently smooth the hair at the top of the wig backward before placing the cap on top. When removing the hat, pull it off in a backward direction to maintain the shape of the wig.

Kids’ Headbands

Headbands are another easy piece of headwear for children with hair loss. Fabric headbands are extremely comfortable, versatile and look cute! You can find headbands in a range of sizes and widths, and they can be stretched out to cover different amounts of the head.

For a thinner headband, the Petite Kitty Headband and the Petite Chick Headband from Christine Headwear are both super pretty and incredibly comfortable options. They are designed to be stretchy but without slipping off your head and can fit most children between the ages of 2 and 12. Both designs feature a decorative bow detail at the front for a special touch. You can also choose between a gorgeous dusty pink shade or a stylish lavender grey colour. Your child could easily wear different colours on different days depending on their mood or outfit!

For a thicker and more textured headband, the Petite Swan Headband is a fantastic choice. The nature of the fabric allows for a variety of styling options, so it’s a great versatile piece to have. This headband comes in a few different colours and patterns. For all-over colour, you can choose from dusty pink, lavender grey or dark grey. And, for fun patterns, you can choose from palm leaves, blue stripes or leopard print.

Your child could easily wear soft and stretchy headbands with a wig, too. For a natural look, position the headband slightly back from the front of the wig, and gently pull some of the hairs out around the hairline to frame the face. Our Sapphire Children’s Human Hair wig would look lovely with a headband positioned just behind the fringe.

Turbans for Children

Turbans for children are also ideal for offering comfort to those with hair loss. Finding a turban that’s soft, comfy and seamless is key. Turbans for children are very similar to beanie hats, so they work especially well in colder climates or during the winter months.
