How To Cut Long Layers In 8 Min | Haircut Tutorial

Hey guys, in this haircut tutorial I'm sharing with you one of the shortcuts I use for long layer haircuts. With this long layer haircut technique, I have been able to cut more than 20 clients in a day! Long layers are a staple in any hairstylists tool belt so I hope you guys find this long layer tutorial useful!

Here are the tools I used in this video:

Defy Shears by Fromm - https://www.frommpro.com/collections/d...

ProGlide Comb by Fromm - https://www.frommpro.com/products/prog...

Elite Thermal Round Brush - https://www.frommpro.com/products/elit...

Take 1003: hey guys, welcome back, and today, I'm gon na be sharing with you a really quick method for cutting long layers in under eight minutes. Now. This is a fantastic technique if you're running behind in the salon and you're trying to catch up or whether you're just trying to maximize your value per hour. Now coming from the Sassoon camp of precision, cutting I'll tell you now. This is not that, but over the years I've just realized there's a time and a place for all different types of techniques and shortcuts and methods - and I hope you guys find a place in your arsenal for this one. So without further ado, let's get started. First, we're gon na take a look at my clients, hair and assess what she needs. She expressed that she has had some pretty severe color damage in the past and some really uneven breakage, where a lot of hair broken off on one side and not the other, so her layers are pretty uneven. So what we're gon na do is go in and reset the perimeter to strengthen up off the edges. The layers have clean up the ends now, since we want clean lines, we're gon na get the hair wet and brush the hair out now, as you can see, that brush did not go through that hair very easily. So if you're gon na get a haircut done in under 8 minutes, you can't waste a single stroke. You got to cut out every single movement that isn't necessary. So I like to use a really good detangler brush the hair out and make sure that when I pull that comb through it slides through the first time - and I don't spend my whole haircut detangling here - you can see I'm using an ion detangler sprayed it throughout And the brush starts going through a whole lot easier than it was before so just go ahead and make sure that's fully saturated and then we'll start by creating a center part and pulling all the hair forward over the neck. This gives us a stronger weight line in the front and a little bit of a v-shape in the back. The comb I'm using here is a silicone infused comb by Fromme, which I find this really reduces the amount of combing. I have to do because it just glides through the hair and the shears I'm using are also by Fromme they're called defy, and I'm really loving using these right now, just because they make really clean precision lines, I can cut a lot of bulk of hair in Them just with no effort, they're really easy on my hands, so I love them. I'Ll also put the link in the description she didn't want to lose much length, so we wound up cutting off just what we two on the perimeter. Then we set a guide for the face framing layers in the front by taking two small pieces up at the front. That'S gon na be our shortest point in the haircut. We then use a tee section, pull the hair forward and start cutting the face framing layers in one giant section now remember in precision cutting we normally wouldn't take sections, that's large, but we're trying to get a haircut done in under eight minutes here. So go ahead and check your work, make sure your lines are clean, then we're gon na create a center mohawk section and angle, your fingers for how much length you want to preserve in the back. So the longer the layers you can go ahead and angle. Your fingers down one then we'll create a similar section, all the way back down to the occipital bone and continue that line that we were cutting. Then what we'll do is create a triangle or diamond shaped section in the center of the back of the head, find our guide and cut next, we'll exclude the perimeter and from our T section, we created we'll pull the hair straight up, we'll start cutting from the Shortest point of the haircut that we created earlier all the way to the back, connecting the layers that we've just cut in the last section. Now we'll go ahead and cross check our work, creating it one large perpendicular section to the sectioning that we were using before the purpose of doing. This is we're moving through the haircut pretty fast, and we want to make sure that the haircut has symmetry that it's the same on both sides. Now, given that my client had some color damage and some breakage I wanted to go through and make sure that we softened things up to make sure that the texture and density, not just the links or symmetrical all right. So hopefully you are at the 8 minute mark, so I like to go ahead and just rough dry get about 75 % of the moisture out of the hair and then I'll move into using a round brush and I'll post a link in the description for all The tools I'm using here so now that the hair cuts dry I like to go through and just make sure that there were no missed pieces and that all the density and texture that I wanted is there. So I'm going through and adding a bit of texture here on the perimeter, I felt it was a little heavy still so I'm going through and taking off that corner of weight by taking a vertical section at the back and pulling forward leaving the longest length in The center of the head and the shortest connecting with the layers in the front here the front still just felt a little heavy due to the hair around the hairline in in comparison to it. So I went in and added a little bit of texture at the bottom, and here I'm repeating that, on the other side, checking for symmetry and voila there you have it a long, layered haircut. You can do in 8 minutes or less less if you're really pretty good. I hope you guys enjoyed the video and found this helpful and useful if you have any questions or would like to see any other videos, please feel free to leave a comment and make sure to go subscribe. Megan G: I am a licensed cosmetologist and like seeing how other stylists do things. And I loved his technique. It's short simple and to the point. I always like to learn different techniques, because in this industry you always need to keep learning. Great video ❤

jamdad: I've become the family barber during the plague. My wife is finally letting me do her. Wish me luck.

Breezie XOXO: I did this technique today and my hair came out so so great!! Thanks for making this video. Best hair tutorial I've ever followed!!! Just subscribed!

William Harris: I’ve been doing this haircut for 42 years. Glad to see young stylists doing it again!

Tara McCoy: Love to see this super simple cut getting recognition.this is one of the first cuts I learned under a mentor 20 plus years ago. Perfect long layers every time

Sheelah: Would love to see the sections. Love the idea of the 8-min HC and how you explain connecting the HC, but need to see it to really understand and be able to duplicate. Neat idea would be 2 videos: 1. A more in-depth tutorial, and 2. A video of you executing the HC in 8 min...?

Leighann McGowan: Great job ...I did hair for 16 yrs ...and I can tell you know what your doing .ignore the mean people they have issues lol ..great work !!!!!

Kimberly Ellis: LOVE this..and so appreciate his style..is exactly what I was looking for...thanks man ❤

Anita Shemon: Gorgeous!! Love long layers!! ❤️

Krista B: O.M.G where have you been all my life?! I feel like almost every time regardless of the stylist (expensive, cheap, and even licensed Sasoon...), I'm always asking if they can 'lighten up' the section that falls at my shoulder behind my ear! You got it perfect in 8 minutes. Getting perfect layers is a holy grail...and it seems the cue for the stylist who achieves them to suddenly move across the globe.

Abby Varinsky: love this SO much! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Ashley Alhadeff: GEEEEEEZ! People are brutal in the comment section! Guys, he’s obviously new at this YouTube thing. Takes a min to get the hang of filming! Patience! I liked this video ‍♀️

Kimberly Gomez: This is a great tutorial!!! I understand everything except for the last part. When you take the part from the t section, and you bring the hair from the other side to match the side you cut already, using the side you cut already as a guide? If that makes sense? Lol!! Just making sure I’m following! Best and easiest tutorial yet!

Page Living Beautifully: Great for learning! Excellent video. Thank you!

Shenia: Thank you for taking the time and effort to post. I appreciate you bro!

Mariana Fabris: Pandemic diaries: Watched this video 45 times and felt confident to try on myself at home. Splitted one more triangle section on each head-side to connect the layers created by the diamond section. Anyway, thanks! I loved the result

Ana Lavelle: Great Job keep it up! Simple and easy. ;)

Michelle P: thanks for the tips! I found this video super helpful!

Robin Holbrook: Gorgeous! And so are you!

candycanes 10: Wow really stunning great work!!

Mia Ross: Thanks for the video! I really love the result. But I have a question, could you please help me My hair is long at the bottom (till the shoulder blades, some longer), and short at the top (till the neck), and there's different length between top and bottom. And I also have a thick bang, till the eyebrows. I'd like to cut hair like in the video but I'm not sure if it's real? Would it look good with such different length? Thank you ❤

Kelly E.: I like how wispy the layers look. I always have trouble with that. Also people in the comments are so rude for no reason

Andrea Perez: Can you redo this video and focus more on showing your sections opposed to showing more of the cutting at the ends?

susan gunn: beautiful layering!

Jaquosh: Problem is, that most of the time when you start working with the angle the watcher can't see the whole model, so it's difficult to recognize the technique.

Austen Thomson: Hey Cash, nice video. You got a subscriber from a few hairdresser of YouTube. Keep up the good work.

Maxine Wells: One more thing Cash love your work & I'm subscribing to your channel.

Yada Yadayada: Wow back in the 90's Borics used to be home to the 8min haircut. Glad people are still doing that today!

mary marmande: Wow amazing thanks for posting

poonam 🌻: I always want this type of hair style ...its so so beautiful.... I wish I get haircut from you..great work

Mimi Ramone: Thanks for the video!! If her hair is breaking, please use a pic or wide tooth comb because the brush is just ripping it out. Sorry I had to because I have frizzy hair and they use a brush on me & I’m like whyyyy?

danielle brown: By the way your hair is gorgeous!

Carolyn Nigro: Wow. An actual TRIM. You didn't just lop all of her hair off. .

Viridiana D.M.: Wow this is quick and it looks easy I don’t mind doing my hair my self, I did damage my hair since I bleach it and color it my self but I knew the risk and now it’s time to get it healthy and that means cutting it more

Parsons Lynda: Very nice technique!

claudia strange: Thanks. I learned new cuts!

NinjaOfTheKeyboard1: I'm excited to whip this haircut out in the salon. Thanks for the video man!

Ran Keener: Thank you for this video, glad I found your channel.

Shandi: Great video, thank you! I subscribed :)

Fearless Life: This video would be awesome if it was zoomed out when you were cutting. It was hard to see exactly where you were pulling sections and cutting at because the camera wasn’t showing her entire face and head.

H TC: I need this cut ❤️

Ahmad Farzad: Damn.. that looks hella hard. You have to have an artistic eye for it. Props.

Rose: It's funny but not funny at all, but why are people trying to change his appearance or anything about him? To look more like everyone else? Yet we're all afraid of being judged. C'mon people. It is a hair tutorial. I will say this, I was paying attention to the hair tutorial ONLY ...and his soothing voice. I bet he appreciates feedback on the topic but stop the negativity. Talk like human beings still. Thanks for the vid! Made so much sense. I am visual person but your explanations were thee most helpful. Thumbs up! P.S. Corona is here and I appreciate this video!

kerala78: Love this video! What do you mean by texture?

Belinda Falgout: Nice work!

buggy627: It’s not your fault but her hair is so damaged even with your beautiful blow dry it looked damaged. Try to convince her she needs a few more inches off to preserve her hair and keep it from splitting even more

Rain: I actuslly think I followed , had a wuestion: When you sectioned out the diamond did you over direct all the hsir in the section to the center guide?

Dawn Sellitti: Good job!

Jamie Bui: I have the same thinking with Liliana Petersen, and I also saw your reply. Can you redo the video? I like the idea of 8’ job. Thank you.

Lynda Bales: Love this video very helpful your awesome

MissFreakinLOL: could you do an update where you show the results without any motion and shaking? or uberly curled..there is literally no video on yt haha and i wonder how we're supposed to see if its a choppy v cut or actually does look good..i paused at 5.26 but its not quite the same because she is already taking her hair up a bit

stylist62: Excellent, good job❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Dantedevil: Hair looks really damaged from my own experience i can say that there's no repairing hair all you can do is to cut damage of. If you don't it will take much longer for hair to grow as they just keep splitting at the ends

Sha'day: You did good. I see many long layers. Why do hairdresser call it a long layers when all they do is cut only one layer an inch from the bottom???

MissFreakinLOL: is there a picture without all the motion and shaking of the result? i wanna know if this creates and u shape, v shape in the back and overall the finished look.

Maxine Wells: Great haircut. I wish you would've did her color too. That blonde looked so damaging. Would have loved to see her go a couple of shades darker.

Rebecca: Looking at this video I feel ready and a hair professional 15 minutes later I messed up my hair ‍♀️

Natalie: i know this is meant to be a fast cut but gah dam you could of gone into more detail!!

yolanda atkinson: Love this technique

John Cortesi: If you're good you can do a long layered haircut in 8 mins., but you can't give a good tutorial in 8 mins. For a long layered haircut. Oh, well. More tutorials out here in YouTube land...thank God!!!

tei cc: What detangle did you use?

horosorsa: awesome! thanks

Jayson Dj: Did this to my 8yo for the first time and tbh not bad for the first time hahahha

Toni Cocovixin Johnson: Do another layered video that we can see the sectioning better but other then that I like it

a girl named Joey: I just got a burning question... When, in history, did it become a trend for women to have long hair and men get theirs cut to appear masculine?

Reecha S: Can you please upload more long layer haircut videos?

francisco tavizon: If I go to the hair salon is this what I'll expect if I ask for the long layers?

Yolly B: Beautiful n Handsome Stylish❤️

P Milane: Ion detangler? Where can I get that?

Asuna Chidory: We got to a certain point in the video and could no longer tell where on the head the sections being cut were… this ones going to need slowing down and rewatching!

Jane Doe: The cut was beautiful and his instructions might be good but it was not filmed well. Not easy to follow

Ten Kawaguchi: Wow! Did you cut and style all those celebrities’ hair in the intro!!??!!

drs 299: That smile at 00:51.. *ping*.

Denise Lay: Very nice good technique s and I love that kinda of comb and that s the cut I need

Coo Cat: Good technique, but in the future back the camera up that people can see the whole head and go close when doing the actual cutting

Sondra Haywood: Did you... just... RIP through her hair

Ashley Hudson: Can you show a diy self cut for this

Shula Rorie: Her hair looked so much better. I liked video and wish I had that talent.

J C: seems like a nice quick haircut, however, was not able to see the partings/sectioning.

XXo: The only thing I'm fuzzy on is the triangle/diamond shape sectioning on the back.

Ashley Hudson: When would you cut hair wet vs dry

Candida Barros: Less than 8 minutes, because the video duration is 5:50 min.

sabrinafair: Do you make house hair visits?

Jamie Roberts: In 8 minutes?! You know most of us don't even know what we're doing, right? We ain't trying to race bruh, we just wanna get snatched!

lilfr3shy: I wonder your purpose is advertising those tools or the teach the tutorial when you don't even show people the whole while cutting the hair. Only parts from the end of the hair while cutting.

Hello Dahling1: Hello . Can’t tell you if I liked the end look. Why don’t you ever show the MONEY SHOT?!?!?? Of the ladies ( I mean, we have seen her face throughout the process. ) face? I would have rather seen the way this technique framed her face . Thank you for sharing.

sabrinafair: I use a large tooth comb on wet hair

The Daily with Charlotte Z: Effortless!

Self sufficient university.: Nice video.

Kady: This tutorial is not properly filmed becaused I did not see how he directs the hair as he cuts it in triangle. On which side is longer front or back? How is the piece of hair taken in relation to the head? Please record from the distance to see the entire thing.

Isle of Self: That's the strangest way I've seen a stylist hold scissors

JADE: The hair cut from start to finish definitely did not take him 8 minutes!! The video was 5 minutes with all the editing he did. Layers didn’t look even. She needed a lot more cut off it was really damaged. Bad color job.

Enrique Ramirez:

TrueGamerVed: Awefull video. All i can see is your scissors, watch, your jewelry.

Bettie Wilde: You should redo this no tell camera guy to stay back we can’t see what you are doing if it’s all closeup
