Welcome to tips for clips today, i'm going to show you how to cut your own hair, even on top without using any scissors just clippers and trimmers. This is what i started with and here's the finished product, so the first thing you want to do is brush your hair down on top the lever here on the side of the clippers. This is short long, also known as closed notice. These clippers have notches that make it easier to go in between, and this is open, i'm using a number six guard here in the opened or long position, and the key here is to go in the direction that your hair grows. One of the biggest haircutting mistakes is using, for example, number six or seven or eight on top and going in the opposite direction that the hair grows. That'S going to make your hair extra short uh, probably only about an inch long. If that's what you want! That'S fine, but if you want to keep it longer, go in the direction of the hair. Just like you see me doing here as you go towards your bangs, you want to press a little bit lighter so that you don't cut as much off you want it. Just a little bit longer there and you can always start with longer numbers and work yourself down just to be safe. So i would recommend, starting with an eight in the opened or long position, and if you want it shorter, then you can go lower numbers from there but start on the safe side, and you won't mess up here i'll, be using a number four closed for the Sides - and the goal here is to fade now my sides into that longest hair. On top, some people might need to use a number six on this step to fade into the longest hair on top, so you would just use a number six, even higher than i'm going right now, but because i have a little bit of experience, i'm just using A number four and, as i go up, i press a little bit lighter. I move the clippers away from my hair and that helps to blend it in so you see, there's almost a line that wants to form there, but you want to get rid of that line and fade it in as well as you can again a number six Or a number five above, the four would help to blend that in and i'm going to do the same thing on both sides and while looking at the front mirror, you can even get behind your ears. As you see, i'm doing and you're gon na see in just a sec, i'm actually gon na cut the back bottom of my hair, without even turning around or using a mirror. Just because i know this is a safe guard to use, i'm not going to go too high just to be on the safe side, but see i'm just getting the bottom of my hair there and then in a second i'm going to turn around and make sure That it's faded into the top hair smoothly, so the next step you're actually going to turn around so that the large mirror on the wall is behind you and you're going to hold a small mirror, and this is going to make the haircut much easier. You can still hold the clippers in your dominant hands and you're trying to blend now, i'm still using the number four into the longest hair. On top, you just want a smooth transition. Next, i'm using a number three also in the short position and i'm just gon na go up on the sides about half an inch under where i went with the number four. You don't want to go past the number four, but if you go just underneath it, this is probably going to be the easiest step to fade to transition between the 4 and the 3 is really seamless, as always do the same thing on both sides and the Idea here is that you're going to save time when you do this, because you don't have to keep taking the clips and the guards in and out, as the number three is in you're going to use it all around. So here we're using it. On the second side - and you can see it's already starting to look nice and then after this second side, we're also going to do the same thing on the back and the back is always a little bit trickier. But with the number three it should be. Really. No problem at all you're, just gon na turn around use the handheld mirror and go up as high as you went on the sides. But again you don't want to go past where you went with the number four take your sweet time on each step. The more you practice, the quicker you'll, be able to go next i'll, be using a number two still in the closed short position and i'm gon na do pretty much the same thing i did with the number three, but this time i want to go half an Inch under the three so half an inch under where i just went in the previous step, and you can see here - we have a pretty nice fade going. You can choose to stop after this step a lot of people like this length of haircut, so this could be the end and you could sort of fast forward to how to trim up the sides and the beard. But i'm gon na go just a little bit shorter. I think it looks a little bit nicer and especially because i have to get rid of some cowlicks in the back, so i choose to fade it completely out, taper it out into my neck. So here i'm just going half an inch under the number three same thing on the back side: keep moving your head in all different directions to see different lighting to make sure that you're not missing any patches of hair that are not smoothly transitioned. So this is where it's going to start getting a little bit tricky as i move to the one guard, i'm going to start off here with a number one clip in the long position. This is the first time i'm using the long position or open position on the sides here. I just want to go along my sideburns up till about the height of my ear, maybe a little bit higher, but no further than that. I'M not actually going directly. Above my ears, just above where the sideburns are, this ensures that you're not going to really mess up this step. And here i moved the lever into the short position, and here now i'm just going lower, i'm just going along my sideburns keeping it safe but making for a crisper. Look, i'm going to show you the same thing. On the other side, a one opened - and this is how high i go and you just want to make sure it fades into that two that you used before and now i moved it into the short position and i'm gon na go along just my sideburns under Where i just went with the opened one, we're gon na do the exact same thing. We just did this time on the back, so you're gon na start with the opened one you're gon na go a few inches up. You can go about. You know four inches up or so, and it shouldn't be too hard to blend into the number two that you just had. But again, when you're using the number one be cautious, go slowly make sure you're flicking out to blend it as smoothly as you can move. Your hair in all different directions to see and make sure that it's smooth and i'm going in all different directions here, so i could get rid of my cowlicks, but if your hair grows all in the same direction, you don't have to do what i'm doing here. Next, i put the lever in the short position the closed position and i'm gon na go underneath where i just went probably only want to go about two or three inches high and what i'm doing here is i'm trying to fade out the hair on my neck. Pretty much into a zero, so i took all the guards off and put the lever in the long position, and now i just want to go around the bottom inch of my neck here and fade out as smoothly as i can here again. I am changing the direction of the clippers to get rid of my cowlick hair, which grows in the opposite direction, but typically, you won't have to do this. Go really slow with this step and be very cautious, because when you have no guards on the clippers, it cuts very short and it's easy to mess up. You don't have to do any of these steps and you can stop the haircut at any point. But this helps you not have to shape up the bottom of the hair when you're done, because it's already faded out all you'll have to do is shape up the sides of the back next you'll take your trimmers and you will just clean up the sideburn here And you just want to make a smooth transition there. This is optional here, and you want to get the hair any stray hairs that are around or above your ears and because of the t shape of this trimmer blade. You can pinpoint exactly the hairs that you want to cut and it's very easy to cut around the ears now on this final step. Take your sweet time. If you have somebody else who can help you accept that help. You just want to make a perfectly straight line in the back, and you can see that i have a nice fade in the back, so i won't have to do the horizontal line, but these two vertical lines in the back take your time and give your brain A chance to realize that when you want to move one way, you actually move the other way. So just take your sweet time here, it's really important part of the haircut and you can see that it pulls it well together and once these two lines are in it looks like a really great haircut. This is probably the step that will need the most practice and, as you practice, cutting your own hair, more and more you'll get better at this. The previous steps in fading, i think, you'll, have accessible to you even at the first try, but give this a shot again. If you have help accept that help - and we are well off to our nice haircut, the last step will be to trim up the beard. If you have a beard and i'll give you some tips here. You just want to go perfectly straight with the blade right where i'm cutting right now and then, as you get closer to the side burns you want to curve it make that nice curve that you already started on your sideburns earlier next you'll want to make a Straight line on the back side of your beard, like i'm doing right now, and i just pull my skin a little bit so that i could see where i'm cutting and you just want to go straight down the key to shaping up your beard is letting it Look as natural as you can, but still clean, so you want to go along the natural lines where your beard grows. Just getting rid of those stray unwanted ears. When you do the same thing on both sides, you're gon na go along the bottom of the beard and again you just want to go along where it is naturally, but try making it a straight line. It makes for a much cleaner and more polished look and finally, you can go for the mustache. You just want to trim up the hair that comes on your lip, make it nice, and straight and you're, also going to do the same on the top of your mustache and sort of on the sides of the mustache as well. To make it straight. Get rid of any stray hairs and that's it. That'S all you need for a self haircut. Here'S a reminder of where i started and again here's a look at the finished product. You can buy these clippers and trimmers at tipsforclipshair.com and i have a link in the video description. I highly recommend them they're, cordless and strong, and they have very high ratings on the website. Here'S a look at some of my other videos. Tips for Clips - Haircutting: Clippers: https://tipsforclipshair.com/store-1/clippers Trimmers: https://tipsforclipshair.com/store-1/trimmers-3

José Goris: I like how he goes straight to the point. He doesn't have a long intro doing unrelated stuff.

Max Weiderer: Dude! Trimming back to front on the top made my hair have the exact length I wanted to have. I never saw that tipp before and I never felt quite ready to use scissors. So very happy with all your videos. Especially the top hair tipp!

Shiba Inu: Haven't had my hair cut since Dec 2019, and I decided today that I'm gonna take care of it myself. Your videos have been a huge help! My clippers come in tomorrow!

Shamsa Akbar: Thank you so much for this video! This is exactly what I was looking for to give my husband a haircut. Your explanation was simple and easy to follow. I hope I can achieve this on him! The cut looks amazing!

markthomas38: I cut my own hair for the first time today. Your excellent and easy to follow instructions gave me confidence to give it a go and I'm very happy with the results! I purchased your clippers too which worked perfectly. Thank you!!

Mueed Ullah: You're a legend, mate! Cut my hair thrice watching your videos and it looks as good as a professional barber's work. THANK YOU!

Dan Bartlett: Thanks for this video, by far one of the easiest to follow I have found. Plus in the description you left the guard sizes and open vs closed. I just got done with my first self haircut it’s not perfect but much better than I anticipated. Thanks

Edward Trent: His instructions worked well for my hair! Some take away thoughts for newbies like myself: 1) Unless your hair is identical to his, you will need to adapt his instructions to your style. 2) Like he mentions several times in at least the two videos of his I watched, START with the larger numbered guards first, until you are confident in your cuts. 3) Take your time, practice your movements before you actually cut. I actually cut my hair in two days, my spouse mentioned that I didn't do the fade correctly on the first try. So I went back the next morning and finished that using this video. The key is that you will develop your technique on your own. I don't cut my hair everyday, but over time I will get better and better at it and learn new tricks. Have confidence, hair grows back! Also, take a picture when you are done (using the wall mirror and selfie mode) so you have a reference photo for next time.

Kapila Agarwal: Such a helpful video....thank you so much. I've cut my husband's hair after watching your tutorial and you've explained everything so easily. I watched hundreds of videos before but yours is the best.

fhdhff: I just cut my hair and beard watching this video and some of your others as a guide and was very pleased with the results especially for a first time. Good job explaining everything! I might try cutting my own hair from now on.

T. Durden: I watched your previous videos and cut my hair twice somewhat successfully. But I always had a hard time using scissor to cut the top by looking at the mirror. My hand just weren't steady enough and I lost the sense of depth somehow through the mirror. Thanks for this great tip using clippers on the top, I will give that a try... on my son first!

Nelda Bravenec: Hey, TFC! I really liked your videos; very helpful, especially concerning using clippers on top. Everyone else on YouTube said use scissors on top, which made me uncomfortable. I have been cutting my husband's hair during the pandemic, and since watching your videos maybe from now on I will do it right!!!! Thanks for easy to understand videos which were not interminable (unlike everything else on YouTube...). AND you and your wife are so cute!

Mike Lieber: Really great video. Step by step and very nice and easy to follow. Ive done it the first time came out pretty nice and ready for a second cut soon.

Arjun Nath: This is the most helpful self haircut tutorial I have seen yet. Came from your other 3 minute beard trim video. You're putting a lot of value, definitely subscribing

Ryan Brassington: Thank you for this video, you made this process super easy to understand and not mess up. I did pretty well on my sides and top for a first time self-haircut, the back was ok but I know that will take practice.

costylezz: Thanks for the tips dude! I was able to cut my own hair and it came out great. I wasn't able to keep the top that long, but it turned out pretty good!

SAK 75: Thanks dude! By far the best haircut instruction, I've watched many. I bought thees clippers after watching your last video but I have been holding off because I am the last person on the planet you want cutting your hair. After watching this and out of desperation I got up the nerve and it worked out well, I'll give myself a B for my first one. Clippers are totally worth it.

IngotAU: Can't wait to try this! Been cutting my own hair since June and getting better and better results. Would never have tried without your encouraging videos!

moz boy: EXCELLENT VIDEO!! Thanks to you I now cut my hair by myself. Keep the videos coming!

karat: Tried this for the first time yesterday and it came out great! I surprised myself actually how easy this was. Never going to the barber again thanks!!

lonerblader85: Those are some excellent tips for cutting the top with clippers. Thank you so much once again!

Геннадий Кузнецов: Thank you so much! This is an amazing tutorial and now I have an amazing haircut)

ctrlaltf: With this COVID shutdown, all barbers shut down, I did it myself. Can't believe I've been wasting $ on haircuts all my life. It came out awesome! Thank you! :)

Harjote panesar: I followed this video and it was AWESOME, your method is so simple! I was hoping you would spend a bit more time on cutting the top of the hair but hey your video is still awesome!

garydeasy: Great job ! I have tried this once before and thats a clean cut !!

R J: This was very useful and good one with only trimmer and no scissors I was looking for this type and it came up so well with all these instructions

R K: Wish I had watched this BEFORE I just gave myself an undercut 15 minutes ago hahaha. My crappy old tiny clippers didn't help. But I'll definitely use these tips next time. Thanks!

Val Palacios: You are awesome!! I have learned greatly from your videos! I told my hubby and my little guys that they will no longer step foot in a barber shop! Because of your videos I am saving a ton of money and men look awesome!!!

Pratyush Pratyush: Thanks man ! You sir are Amazing !! This is what i was struggling with ! I didn't know to how to cut top head hair with clipper & NOW i know !! All thanks to you .THUMBS UP

Tadeas: Really helpful. I wanted the hair shorter so I confidentially cut the top of the head on the opposite direction on the highest trimmer level. And my head is not a ball just looks very nice short hair style which I can arrange with gel. Thank you!

ERos: Cut my hair for the FIRST time this weekend (following your instructions) and it worked. A friend of mine said: I don´t see the difference between this cut and the one your headdresser makes. Since then, I´m thinking, "actually no need for the headdresser anymore". THANK YOU MATE.

Michael Baucum: +1 for getting straight to the point. Excellent video my man. From Caveman to Model!

Reecious: You can also take the bulk of the sides and blend well afterwards by going downwards (the way the hair sits) on the sides/back of the head as well. Not around the head, straight down on the sides, as if there was an imaginary straight line on the sides of your head. You’re welcome

Ian J: You make it look very easy!

Christian de Guzman: I really appreciate how you cut your hair without the need to use scissors. Steps are well-explained and easy to follow. Is the lever required? My hair clipper at home does not have one. Can you also do a video where you use a hair clipper that does not require the use of the lever? Thanks!

SoFreshBlaze: I always go back to this video. Tip for long hair that stick up in the back. If you do the #6 in direction of your hair and you go over those hairs in back at top of your crown, it will cut them down easier (was hard to do with #4 clip)

Jake: This was very helpful, thank you!

DL Mac: Wow, great tutorial! Thanks for sharing!

Rodrigo Esparza: This video deserved to go viral. Thanks for sharing

b n: did my first self cut based on your video and was surprised how well it came out. my friend looked at it and said it was better than my barber! lol i guess i won't be going back

Katie: So if you're using a #6, which would cut down to about 3/4" if you would go front to back on the top, how long would you say it leaves the hair by going back to front? I've been trying to find a 1.5" and 2" clipper guard, but it sounds like this technique might make the attachments I have work!

L Chase: Excellent tutorial. Thank you

Prof. Sergio Salazar: Thanks, man. Well explained, I'm gonna try this.

Kevin McManus: Thanks man, I learned a lot. Keep it up!

Inthefuture: I like your technique, thanks a lot. Needed something for my son he likes it longer on top.

Jen Barth: This is an awesome video. This man is a master educator. Thank you!!!

Pacific Blue: Great instruction!! Thanks!!

Jose Zamora: I appreciate your easy manner of explaining. Tomorrow im taking the chance and feel quite confident. Thanks

MelancholicThug: Woah this is really nice and easy. Thanks a lot bro.

AM Jordan: Excellent tips! Thanks for the help. I'm watching all your videos so I can keep my boyfriend looking good in quarantine.

Dr. Mike Bajamonde: Thank you so much for this video... you’re self-haircut videos are really great!!!

Sagar Shrestha: This is one of the best video for beginners, I really enjoyed seeing this video and doing by myself.

TonyEstVlog: Don’t think I’m ever goin bak to my barber. Been cutting my own hair with ya videos since March. Saved me 130$ did the math lo

Hessam: I have followed your previous videos and I have to admit it that they're useful. But, I'm regarding this one, I'm a bit worried that this direction would shave my hair off :( .. I'm gonna do it with 8. Any chance I don't lose too much? I just don't wanna end up with a buzz cut :))

Nota Liablen Ame: Very happy for my first try, thanks a lot mate

Samuel De Guzman: I just had to cut all my hair. Thanks for the tutorial. Just kidding. You're video's really great and easy to follow. I'm just not really that good at following any instructions. So yeah, the had to cut all my hair part is not a joke.

Bob Ross: Hey you know how you cut against the grain with the clippers on open? If you want to go slightly shorter, should you keep the setting on open and just go down by clip numbers? Or do you close the lever to go shorter?

Philthy Phil: You make it look do easy. This is going to take me some practice, lol

Gregg Christofferson: This is by far the best self cutting hair tip video i have watched. Thank you for sharing

Christian Dysthe: The one that works. Great instructions with on-screen blade settings. I keep fooling friends and family saying I went for a haircut without a mask!

genuflext: been cutting my hair based on your info for over a year now

RJ Carter: You did a nice job. I prefer a shorter top, but for longer hair it looks great.

Hells Gift MB: Best videos on this for sure! Big thanks, I've not been to a barbers for months and don't think I'll ever go back!

Clifford Wiles: about to give this a go. great video, no nonsense :)

Memphis Depay: Can anyone confirm that going the direction that the hair grows cuts longer than against the hair? (Ex. If you cut with an 8 guard going with the hair, does it leave your hair longer than an 8?)

Victor K: When my barber retired I learned how to do it myself (he helped me). Hate the prices and the noise and the waiting. Nice video.

niZmo: Nice job. I wish i got the guts to cut my own hair like that

Joko Sustiyono: I love this channel, thanks for excellent tips

Nekotico: ill stop always at the number 3 for the moment im not like, that confident with my skills, the first tip u gave for the upper part of the haircut was amazing, thanks bro!

Wesley: Great vid brother. I used longer clipper guards and went against the grain on the top but same result. Never paying for a haircut again!!

innin chowdhury: Bro I always watch your videos the r always so so so inspiring I started cutting my own hair now after watching your videos can you please do how to give yourself a skin fade coz you don’t complicate things you keep things really easy and simple cheers brother r

George Durkee: Heya: just bought Wahl clippers for my super-long Covid hair (ponytail length). First try, while not salon grade, is not too bad (well, maybe a teensy bald spot in back of head... Ooops!!) Thanks for videos!

p1xeL: Thx Mate. Done my cut yesterday. The back is tricky i think. How high do i have to trim towards the top ? Is this the same guideline as the sides or higher? It looks a little bit unfaded as i go as high as the side guideline.

Jason Matthew: Awesome tutorial!

Bassing Basics: Amazon! Just did my first self cut and love it!

702dgirl: Thank you for sharing I've been cutting my boys hair their whole lives, I actually enjoy it and want to get better...I just ordered the trimmer.

Marcos Morales: I'm gonna cut my hair tomorrow. Thank for the video

Siddharth Dasgupta: This is a very good tutorial for a beginner. Didnt exactly get the best look on the top. Will explore the tutorials with how to use a scissor on top.

James C: Your other video allowed me survive this pandemic. Liking this one too!

Thee Crystal: That top with the clippers trim worked awesome thanks

The Chile Academy: Awesome! If a line starts to form, how do you get rid of it?

Adam Von Feldt: Any chance you could show yourself cutting the sides starting with a number 6 guard like you mentioned?

Bonnie Hoke-Scedrov: Great video! Thanks!

RoutinelyLazy: Is it just me or your hair grows very quickly?

Deepak Thomas: This by far the best "SELF HAIRCUT" video i have seen......

Batman Btch: Thank you so much bruh. U are the real hero ❤️

schreix27: Thanks for the tip on how to cut the hair on top!

Aziraphale: I'm really bad at scissors because I cant deal with the mirror, thank you for this

mangekyoumusa: OMG i legit cut my hair yesterday and tried to do the top with the clippers to save time, I shoulda watched this video first xDDDDDD

EpicC: thank you buddy! hopefully I'll be able to do it too.

VT: Which store can I buy these clippers from?

Tristan Rujano: Its funny to think any time he wants to make a video he has to wait for his hair to grow

Cosmo Knott: Me, thinking I'm doing a good job by clipping in the opposite direction that my hair grows: :) My cowlicks:

huaxzhang: I understand how a clipper work. The guards create "clearance" of various lengths from the blade. That's how it works when I move the clipper towards hair root. However, I can't visualize how this is applied in reverse direction like you do in order to cut top hair. I guess there's no real control of hair length with this method. Do I get this right?

lafdwifey: Can you make a more detailed video of your wife cutting the top? I cut my husband’s hair, based on your previous video with your wife cutting your hair, step by step and the fade came out great! But I would love a more detailed view of her cutting the length on top. Please

a.l: Best hair cutting video in youtube well done bro

ShredZeppelin: Do you need a taper lever on your clippers. Mine don't have one so I can't set it to "open"

david edwards: Great Job !!!!
