How To Give Yourself A Shag Haircut

Please leave your haircuts up to the professionals, but if you're going to do it, here's how.
Lately i've been feeling like my hair's, been kind of a little bit flat and since shag haircuts are in, i figured what the heck, let's just cut some layers of my hair. So right now you can kind of see like i have some just kind of longer-ish layers, but we're going to cut it and get crazy. So here we go okay. First, what i'm going to do is i'm going to take i'm going to take a section about about an inch on each side of my part, so i usually part it towards the middle okay. So once i have this middle section, i'm probably gon na have some of my hair falling out, just because i have some shorter wings in the front and that's okay, we'll just let those fall out. But what we're gon na do is i'm gon na take probably i'll, probably take about an inch to two inches off. I'M not just going to cut it straight and parallel with my head, i'm going to bring this hair forward because i want more of the layers of the front to be shorter than in the back. So what i'm going to do is i'm going to direct this. All forward and then i'm going to cut a straight line so by doing it, enabling this way you can see this front part will be shorter than the back. So you can see already. I'M gon na have some shorter pieces. Okay, now we're gon na need to um blend those pieces. So what i'm gon na do is i'm gon na take sections now um, perpendicular, okay, so now what i'm going to do? Is i'm going to take sections perpendicular to my part? Okay, so you can see how that is. This is what we just cut right there, the shorter part - and this is what we need to cut, so i'm just going to cut a straight across line to match up with what i just cut. So i'm going to do that all the way around the head and then we'll worry about some of the fringe in the front. So what we're gon na just do today is um. I'M gon na clean up my curtain, bangs and um. Then i'm going to just take it and feather it down the sides. I'M gon na keep mine kind of longer this time, but if you want a full tutorial on how to cut curtain, banks make sure you check out my video on how to cut curtain banks. So um yeah, so i'm just going to take my scissors and just slice it down like that. Okay! So now i'm going to blow dry it out. It'S still just a little wet from when i showered um and then i'm going to take my thinning shears and go through it just i want it to look thick and chunky, so let me show you how to make some. Let me show you how to make some magic. That was weird. Let me just show you, okay, so we'll just show you how to make it more blended and more wispy, so um, i'm gon na take this sections now and i have my thinning shears. So we're just gon na take it and really just blend these bad boys out. You can see they're a little bit more wispy, so i'm just gon na go ahead and style it. So you can kind of see it better because right now, it's just kind of so so there you can see. This is what i love about. This, too, is if you have thick hair like me, it kind of helps to lighten it a little bit and then also gives you a little bit more volume, because it's not so heavy but um definitely make sure you use the thing shears, because you will be Sorry, if you don't leave it thick and chunky, and so that just helps it really um make it a lot more wispy.
