The Shag Haircut was popular in the 1970s because it is a relaxed and layered haircut. It is beginning to get more attention these days since it is low maintenance, yet exhibits a sexy, sultry and trend setting style that appeals to women of all ages and lifestyles.

In this video you'll see how to get a Grungy Shag Cut using a technique that can be applied on long, medium and short hair. This cutting technique requires sectioning the hair and then cutting them by using scissors and razors.

The stylist in this video is Sally Brooks who is an internationally acclaimed hairstylist and has her own salon in London, UK.

This shag haircut may look messy but it isn't as Sally shows how a lot of skill and organization goes into making it seem that way.

Hey you washing scissor Boyka, my name's Angie Anna. Thank you for joining us to stay right. There we are joined by Sally and Jane, Brooks ah of the famous Brooks and Brooks now Sally. What do you plan to do on the lovely mirror here? Okay, lovely! May it already looks off it. Yes, she does. She don't see so much hair that she's got. I mean it's phenomenal amount of hair we're getting just something. That'S like a little bit more of a grungy style Bob and I think, that's very relevant at the moment and it's a very simple technique. It'S something that we use a lot in the sound which was really relevant to everybody, watching it's a technique when you're working with this amount of hair that you reduce some of the hair in some places, because otherwise she's going to end up looking like she's wearing A wig right yeah, so what we have to do is flatten some of the sections out from underneath first, so that the top can move a little bit more we're just going to reduce the hair right at the bottom for that shape into the bottom. All I'm doing is using it as a comb, so I'm not raising in like yeah reduction, I'm just raised with literally as though I'm using my comb and I'm just following this shape or combing it into the middle on both sides. Okay, so the next section we're going to work over the top of the one we've done before. So we have a graduation underneath this time, I'm going to work up and over and I'm going to flatten that section of hair out what I'm going to do is pick my razor up again and I'm going to now use it exactly the same as a comb Chin down for a little bit boats, that's quick, and then I comb everything right through to the center and take off the curve. So we're going to use the razor as though we're using it as a sea angle, not straight down, okay and that will just cause the hair to bevel and push forward. Naturally, all we're going to do now is pull the hair straight back and I'm just going to leave it just what I call some little naughty dangerous pieces. So don't be too perfect when you cut at the moment and then come right round sorry over yeah. No just for you Bree never ever come back, okay, okay! So now what I'm going to do is start to work on the top section. You can see Biddy, it's really simple, but already it's just a really nice shape on her of them. So I'm going to work on the section straight behind the crown, I'm not going to connect it into anything, but I'm going to keep it round and layers are going to be heavy. Everything is going to be round we're going to work on the same vibe as we were working on before. So I'm going to start by cutting this back section here, so you stay with that holder, shuttles staying with the whole dishevelled now so we're at the moment. We'Ve got one two: this is my third two here work you through I'm going to come up over the last over the last okay, so we've got left now is the top section and we're going to work that again within the haircut, but I'm going to work That from this point straight the way through and straight up to the top, so I'm going to put almost a layer through it, but I'm not going to connect that layer to anything else. So there's my back gon na come up over the back and take out from the front so again call on crown and again you want as much don't cut it like that. If you cut it like that, you can take all your length off. You need to come in directly, so it's much more directly down. I'M going to do now is cut in bring closure eyes upon me, Dunham and keeping that it's in our eyes feel, but just a little bit more like it's in arousing eyes and it's linked to be as opposed to its inner eyes. I mean this burnout right. Okay, again, you're not doing a blunt thing on you're, just Evelyn the edges just a little bit again, that's probably more, but about the amount of her she's. Not is he gon na find chip hit? She still looks like it's very heavy and a road rush shouldn't. Take ages, otherwise, when they get home themselves, it's still going to take. So that's just finished now what I would recommend a game if she was my client is that she just had to show Natalie yeah. Let'S do it well, yeah yeah yeah, that's about it and then I'm just gon na finish it again. I think this is really important as well. When you tell your plants, to keep them in fashion is what keeps impression is the finish. Ok shine. It fashion is matte and fashion thinks all I'm gon na do literally. Is I'm gon na put a bit of powder in my hands and I'm gon na just read about this stuff see and I haven't actually never used it myself or seen anyone use it yet. So you get addicted to it. So what does this actually do? Your the love it or hate it? Okay, I would say to my clients: don't overdose that looks like the time listed in my hands. It goes falling or hair. You will have her enormously like massively like this, but it's a mixture between a dry, shampoo and a solid product is completely matte. So if I do this thanks to make your hair

ChillllPillll: loved the cut! what was that powder she used? and what is it used for?

TheGranti7a: A person's individual face, head, and neck shape and length, really dictate a good cut. Using only scissors, not razors. No haircut is a simple cut technique when these important features are central to the final outcome. Combined, THIS adds up to each individual's unique STYLE.

Sandy Holly: OMG I LOVE THIS CUT!!! FAB!!!

theresa jurrus: Omg I love this so much. Too bad I can't find anyone that knows what they are doing.

tony: That's more of a layered bob than a shag.

C lee: This is a very nice cut, however it is not a shag, it's a bob.

llazyiest: the kid never looked too thrilled.

OH CAROL SHOW: Love your videos.....what editing program are you using?? :):) CAROL

Cathy 111: That doesn't look like a shag.

kingoftomatoes: this is a bob!! i wouldn't call it a shag

Scarlett O'Hara: That is NOT a shag, not by any stretch of the imagination. Hell no.

Mrs 5footFro: I love all the scissor boy videos but I think they can be a bit more detailed... I feel like sone important things get edited out )=

Lucy Trần: I love this videos haircut

privatetutor1: Now all three of you look exactly the same.

Promoted Firebird: This is NOT a shag cut nor is it even remotely near "rocker" style. The lines are way to clean and its more an "office bob" the Pizza 4 lunch bunch, office drones wear with sensible outfits. It makes the transition from a company's "corporate culture" dress norms for employees just in time for the smooth transition to casual Fridays.

Julia L: It's a disconnected a line
