Hi guys welcome back to my channel and in today's video we're going to do a video that i've probably been wanting to do since the beginning of starting this channel all right. So as a hairdresser, i do have to start off by saying and explaining. Basically, the difference between salon, quality, color and boxed color. So one of the reasons that boxed color gets such a bad wrap is a because it's not customizable meaning at a salon. You have your tubes of color and your developer and you mix accordingly to the hair and the results you're trying to achieve when you buy boxed color everything's already in the box. So what that means is they're already making an assumption of what you're starting off with and basically the picture in the front is only kind of just a guide. It does not mean that this is the color that you get. I think for most, if you're, not a hairdresser, you assume that the color in the box is the color. That'S it's going to make your hair, and that is not the case, because hair is a little more complicated than that, and the reason for that is our hair is not a white sheet of paper. A blank canvas with whatever you put on it is what's going to show. It all depends on what you already have going on in order to show that result so meaning if i have a platinum blonde starting or a brunette with caramel highlights. If i put on the exact same thing on those two heads of hair, we're obviously going to get different results and that's what these boxes don't know, they don't know what you're starting off with and so the reason why box color almost always has these. Like almost always has this index or this guide is to show, if you have this, this is what you get, and so basically, if your hair is not on the starting point, basically the box is not going to work for you, as you guys know me. I'M all about diy hair and my philosophy is always i want you to have beautiful hair. I don't really care how you get there, whether it's while sitting in my chair, whether it's sitting in another hairdresser's chair or whether you can't afford to do that, and you need to do it at home. So my job here on youtube has always been that, if you're not going to be going to a salon, at least i want you to be a little more informed so that you can make the best decisions on getting your gold hair. So that needs to be very clear and i feel like nine years into being on youtube. I shouldn't have to say that anymore, but you never know if this is your first video that you're watching of mine - and i understand that a lot of hairdressers don't understand why i do what i do and why i would be promoting or suggesting box color and So basically, if you have to use box color, i'm going to go through and explain what is better for what and kind of like what brands to go for and what to stay away from. And we are going to cover the three main pillars of hair color, which is great coverage and color in general lighteners, which lift and bleach out the hair and then, of course, toners all right, starting with permanent color. This is for, if you are covering gray, if you want a little bit of lift at your root, we've got your permanent colors and now i got this box because i think this is one of the most hydrating boxed color out there. The garnier olia is great. Now, if we do want to go a step further into something that is going to be good for the hair, we also have this brand naturally bright, and it's hair color made from plants now typically colors that are much more natural, have a tendency to be much More warm toned, so if you are looking for that warm rich color, this will be a great alternative for you, and also this is a henna based die, which means there's no mixing. You just apply this on the hair and you get bright, rich, vibrant tones all right now, moving into the part where i feel a lot of people kind of struggle with and where things can get a little more complicated, and that is when you want to go Blonde and you buy a boxed blonde and you end up with tragedies like this, and if we turn the box around the index, as you can see, this is for blondes. Only even the darkest color here is still like a level eight, a level. Eight is a blonde, so if you have any brown in your hair, this box is not going to work for you the amount of times where i've gotten a virtual console. Where you know they're like i was trying to go light and i used this box color, and why did i end up with spots of orange? The reason for that is that this is color. This has very little lift and what you need in order to get high levels of lift is lightener. What you need is this. Before i was licensed, i probably have tried out almost every single bleach kit that drugstores offer and i feel like this one was probably the one that i got the most lift with. I can say that, with the quality of this one, i have used lighteners that are quote unquote, professional that are more drying on the hair than this one is so i do feel this one is decent quality. Now again, what you need to know is the levels of lift and again so here in the index it does show brunette it's not black, but it is a medium brown. So if you have hair, that's darker than this you're, probably going to end up with orange. Also, but if you're anywhere in a medium kind of brown, you are going to get these kind of more golden, maybe like a level 9 results and that's pretty good for a boxed color, because again, if they were to sell something that was strong enough to get You from like a super dark. You know brown to blonde. That would be so strong that if this got in the hands of the wrong person or someone that has previously lightened hair, it could severely dry and damage that person's hair. Given the you know, levels of lift that it's you know promising, i'm assuming that it's about a 30 volume developer, all right, so that's it for lifting and the blonde section now we're moving on into toners and at home glosses. So basically the word toner isn't a product. A toner is the action. It'S toning, the hair. Basically, you can have products that are deposit only, which is what you can also call a gloss, and then there are colors which can be in shades of toners, which is like the violets, the golds um neutral shades. But if they contain lift, then essentially they're no different than a color, except that, instead of coloring, your hair brown they're only depositing you know tones to me. A true toner is a gloss, something that is only staining the hair. There is zero lift, and now we have that available to the public. Now christmas is, as you can tell, by the box alone. It'S a pretty elevated, at-home color, a gloss or a toner is necessary, pretty often in order to keep the hair looking fresh. So i got like the most extreme opposites. I got the brass neutralizing like four brunettes, so this is, you know you've whether you've lightened your hair at home or the salon. Your hair is getting pretty brassy, but you still have some. You know brunette base and you're. Looking to just kind of neutralize that you still want to keep the dimension, you don't want to just throw a brown all over. You want to keep the dimension, but you just want to bring down those orangey kind of areas. This is perfect for that. I love that it's an in shower toning gloss. What that means is that you apply this on wet hair, which i think is one of the easiest ways to apply something to the hair quickly when you're applying toner to dry hair. If you're, not quick enough, you can easily have one side of the head that has toned quicker and that ends up being darker or ashier than the other side. So being able to apply a formula over wet hair is just so much more easy to distribute the product throughout the hair and then, of course, the platinum toner in our industry is probably the most misused word. It'S both overused and misused. I think now platinum is kind of used to describe a level, whereas platinum is kind of more of a reference to tone, and i don't know if the camera is going to pick it up. But the before and after is not very different and i'm glad that they did that, because in order to get that shade that isn't you're not going to get lift from a toner, so you better be pretty darn close and really really bright. Already. To begin with, in order to finish off with that result and oftentimes, i will get you know, photos from clients with you know a very yellow base, color to begin with and they're like what toner can i get to get this platinum result, and the answer is No toner is going to get you there, because your hair needs to be lifted to the appropriate level, which is really right. It means that your hair already needs to be at a level 10 in order to reach a platinum tone. What that means is in order to get this result even with this toner, your hair needs to be lifted that level first. So that concludes the boxed color portion. As we all know, there are services that deliver color at home. As you guys know, i've been working with e-salon, for i want to say almost six years now and it's still one of the companies that i work with that, i'm just so in awe of the product, because it is salon quality, color and with my discount that I'Ve had for, like i said six years now, you guys are able to try it out for 50 off and free shipping. So what that means is you get salon quality products at basically a cheaper price than what box color would cost you. So if you have tried out box color before and you're looking for something a little bit more elevated, but still at an incredible incredible price point, i suggest you try esalon and the amazing thing about it too is i have dealt with clients that do do their. You know great touch up at home with e-salon and i've seen what e-salon color looks like on the hair for months upon months of application, meaning not just a one-time deal and the hair looks and feels incredible. So yeah, the proof is definitely in the pudding in the color formulation and e-salon is incredible. They really do make their color from scratch. So they're not just like. Oh, this person needs a 5n and they pull out a color from the shelf. They actually personalize and mix a color for you, depending on your quiz results. There'S no way i could talk about box color without talking about an incredible salon: quality alternative at basically a better price. Thank you for coming to my box, color ted talk. Also, i promised you guys. I was going to bring you my hair transformation, video, so that will be coming next week. I'M sorry! It'S taking me so long yeah. Thank you guys so much for watching. If you have any questions as always, leave them down below and yeah love, you guys and i'll see you the next one bye

ellebangs: Guys, I'm now doing Virtual Consultations to help answer your hair questions and help with color formulation so you can get your dream hair from home!. To learn more, go to ellebangs.com/consultations

Megan Powers: Thank you for this. It’s so frustrating to hear hair stylists constantly calling out the public for using at-home dyes and *never* acknowledging that some people simply cannot afford salon prices. We all want beautiful hair! It’s really tone deaf to not mention that price is a barrier, and this is one reason I love watching your videos!

Sweets & S'more: I don’t know why it makes me emotional but I really appreciate the fact that you are educating us without making us feel like shit because we can’t afford to go to a stylist

Moniqueemariee228: I love that you're not like all the other professionals! Not everyone can afford $100+ hair services and sometimes 15-20 bucks is the best they can do for themselves. Everyone deserves to feel pretty and by educating them without being condescending speaks for itself tremendously! Thank you!

Lori Hendrix: Thank you for educating people without being condescending. Love your videos

Jennifer Shewmake: As a single mom with two small children, thank you. Can't afford $140 every 6/8 weeks all the time and this helps.

Kaya Jane: You are the most honest, no exploitation hair stylist on YouTube and this is why I LOVE your channel. Thank you SO MUCH for all of the valuable tips you offer!

Kaylalea Karisma: I really appreciate that you don’t shame those of us who attempt to do our own hair. I feel like I’ve met quite a few stylists who will judge you to your face once they realize you’ve tried to do it yourself. Really appreciate your videos!

Joanne Shaw: I think I’ve watched your videos for over 6 years now. I so admire what you do. Not everyone can afford to go to the hairdresser and they want their hair done. Also covid has changed everything

2shadowcats2: I used Feria box dye in the shade 100 (extra light neutral blonde) on my Mom's hair for over 20yrs. It lightened her level 3 dark brown hair to a beautiful pale neutral blonde. She also never got a lit if breakage or damage to her hair. At 93yrs old and still blonde...her hair is thicker and healthier than mine!! Not all box colours are bad products. I will recommend Feria as giving very nice results!!

Macayla: I’ve used the Kristen Ess gloss several times and I love it! I currently use the Bittersweet color and it’s great for darkening my hair a bit once my salon gloss starts to fade. I always get compliments on the color

J. Sweets: I used Olia Dark Blonde during quarantine to fix a half yellow, half white disaster that a supposed expert colorist left me with when my stylist was between salons. I went to my salon, MY stylist (and other stylists) actually complimented my color! She even commented on how healthy my hair was! I really like it! (I went from naturally dark blonde with lots of gray and a hot multicolored mess of highlights to dark blonde all over, and my color turned out exactly the color that it showed on Garnier’s website’s little color guide/checker. It covered everything without looking flat or dull. Hope this is helpful!)

Megan S: This is so thoughtful of you, all stylists always just says “never use box dye” it’s like okay I’ve been getting color professional and I do it at home sometimes but I have brunette so it’s easier I guess. I’m going to try these ones now!

Tracy: Thank you for understanding. Not everyone can afford a professional colorist all the time. I remember when I was young I was trying to put blond streaks in my natural black/brown hair with level 7 blond box hair dye because that was the color streaks I wanted. I don’t need to tell anyone what didn’t happen.

Ella Challas: Just want to take a moment to thank you for all of the information that you provide! My daughter was destroying her hair and didn’t want to listen to me. I came across your videos and shared them with her. Her hair has been healthier and more beautiful than ever. Thanks for keeping it honest and straight up, without shaming.

Selina: Thank you for this! I like your approach educating about box colour. My last hairdresser were always shouting about how box colour was the devil and shouldn’t be applied. Thank you for educating everyone to let them know what is and isn’t possible

Jadey Voorhees: I’ve literally just come across your YT and I could cry. Covid has changed so much for this mum of two 3 and under. I can barely afford £50 for a wash/cut/blow dry every 6mths, this channel is my literal fairy godmother. So grateful. Xx

SuzanneM0814: Finally a stylist makes this video! Thank you!

Judyblueyes: Honestly Revlon Color silk no ammonia has been so good for my hair the last few years.I use to use the other higher end brands just because I wouldn't dream of using a 3 dollar box of color, but when someone on YouTube recommend it that I'd always loved her hair,I tried it.It doesn't smell bad and it leaves my hair in much better condition...only thing is you have to get a really good conditioner for after because that little ketchup size packet they put in there is a joke! Lol...Just my opinion of course!

Kate Parkes: Sally’s hair colors & bleach are affordable & longer lasting then store bought boxes of color. I use Wella color Charm , it was recommended to me by my friend, who’s a hair stylist & she showed me how to do the roots , foils & what colors & bleach & toner to get. Which was nice of her ,because I can’t afford her prices

SketchyMary: Finally a stylist who’s helping us DIY’s. It sucks when stylists claim to get color you have to come in and pay $120+

MsAnya26: I only use Demi-permanents, in Salon and in between, namely L'Oréal Casting Creme Gloss. Honestly can't fault it!! Covers, blends greys, really nice brunette shades, adds tones to the hair, even as it fades out your greys take on more the undertone of the colour so stay blended! Hair always conditioned really well afterwards and for weeks!!

TropicArt Studio: Thank you for making educational videos like this one, without judging people. Personally, I don't go to hairdressers anymore simply because every time I went to one, they ruined my hair. It's really sad but since I started to cut, style and dye my hair by my own, it looks healthy, glossy and the way it should be. Hairdressers didn't want to listen me, that my hair bleaches hard, that it's really unpredictable while dying (as it may turn orange or green) - and they always cut it so badly (too short, too many layers leaving my hair thin, etc.). The last time I went to a hair stylist was about 5 years ago, right before my wedding - I wanted ashy ombre look, and I ended up with very warm, orangy brown/blond ombre. My skin, eyes and hair are definitely with cool undertones - so you may guess how did I look... I spent 5 hours on the chair, spent a lot of money and had to listen to the lady complaining about my hair and taking several coffee breaks (all of it happening in a L'oreal hair saloon!).... No, sorry, it's not for me. I won't let any other stylist touch my hair ever again.... However...If I could choose, you would be my only option. Unfortunately, that won't happen as I live too far.

TeaRoseLover: The L'Oreal Excellence Cream Dye has been the best for me. I'm light golden brown but have gone lighter during this pandemic and it's been great!

k: I love your hair-it’s got similar tones to what I have had. Thinking of going back to it for the summer. The fact many of us can’t always afford a stylist, this is so useful. Gained a Sub now!!!

Corri Szucs: Great video! I would love to hear more info on less permanent options for hair and how to get the best results :) Loving your hair right now!

Joan Gentile: I love your videos, Sylvia!! Thank you for sharing them with us!!

Sheryl Lanham: Great video and great advice! Ive always used box dye. I've paid good money on professionals as well. I think the most important thing to remember is to be realistic about whats achievable with an at home dye. I always stay pretty clise to my natural shade. Also you get what you pay for.

Yvette C: This is the first time I have seen you on Youtube and I am forever grateful that you are understanding that life treats us all differently and some are unable to go to the salon. Thank you for your grace in helping everyone.

Chris S: Hi, I just tried garnier olia hair color does a great job. Less hair fall after coloring ,the conditioner that comes with the box made my hair soft and does not have a strong ammonia smell. Thanks for your review.

Jennifer Berry: I love this ! As a cosmetologist, I’m always looking for alternatives for people. I don’t live in an exactly wealthy town, and some people can only afford a haircut. If you ask what’s a cheaper alternative, I want to point you in the right direction . Thank you !

RheannonB: Please do a video on how to achieve your current color!!! LOVE ITTTTT

Susan Crome: I'm so glad I found this video. I had to go back to box hair colour since my hair salon closed due to Covid, and is still only cutting hair, not colouring. I have been cutting my own hair for over a year with the help of one of your hair trimming videos. The box colours that I bought always went too dark, then ended up too light. I had a very nasty experience with Garnier hair colour, so avoid that like the plague. On your recommendation 2 weeks ago I tried esalon. What a difference! I asked for a dark blonde shade and it came out dark blonde straight away. So far it isn't lightening, so I will continue with them. I have asked for a gold tone to be added to my next order colour. I am very happy with my hair colour now, so a big thank you Silvia. It's all thanks to you. :)

The Grey Luxe Life: Olia has been my go to for the most hydrating color. Hair feels sooooo good after applying and rinsing. And the color is what it says, 100% gray coverage.

Sara Caminiti: Thank you so much for this video! I can’t leave the house for hours to get my hair done with a 4 year old and an infant, so thank you so much!

ringla y: Thank you for all your advice.I've done too many mistakes regards to hair colouring. Keep up with your good work.xx

ingrid: Thank you!!! I had my hair highlighted 200.00! I’ll stick to Garnier Nutrisse 111 or LB1 works very nice on my natural Swedish dishwater blonde hair. I do use a purple shampoo and conditioner when it may start to yellow a bit, Biolage my favorite. For any other natural blondes out there, check out Chanelette channel on YT also. She’s been using box Nutrisse For years her hair is gorgeous

Marianne Harms: Great video. I have mature, gray / mixed natural medium-light blond. I do almost exclusively salon color (all-over, roots, sometimes a few highlights or lowlights. When I’ve attempted at home /DIY color I choose demi-permanent (like they do in salon). I tried eSalon demi-permanent once and the gray coverage was almost non-existent. Also, I chose a light beige blond (always battling a bit of brassiness so cooler beige is better) and it looked quite dark. So … my only eSalon experience wasn’t the greatest. Any thoughts or comments or tips would be greatly appreciated!!

Kirsty Macfarlane: Great video thank god someone who explains it so folk get it! Fortunately I'm pretty savvy when it comes to colouring my hair at home. Apart from bleaching and up until I started going to my current hairdresser, I'd do it myself and I've been a lot of different colours. I'm now at a level 9 and he does my roots with a 7, I'm naturally a level 3-4 but there's a lot of grey now. I bought the new loreal excellence cool colour in 7.11 and it came out gorgeous on my roots! I've got bleach London pearlescent shampoo and conditioner, and I'm delighted with the results! I fancy trying their rose and peach shampoos for a change. They're good quality and it's a nice way to have a bit of fun without wrecking your hair with colour that you can't get out without further damage because the colour washes out after a couple of shampoos xxx

Chris Lynn: Thank you so much for clarifying the toners- that always confused me so much. I have genetic photo bleaching of brunette hair that color the roots my natural color at home. I will definitely try the Kristen Ess.

Leah Fisher: This video is so helpful and gives me so much hope to be able to do my own hair at home and get a result I’m happy with without breaking the bank. I would love if I lived in your area though and could go to you initially to get a good solid base going of what I want that I only need to maintain after. Thank-you for being so kind, open and non-judgemental in your video :)

Murder & Mysteries with Megan: Thanks for always sharing so much with us! I actually bought the redken shades eq 09p and 09n recently to do my hair and all of your tips have been so helpful!

Windy Hawthorn: I have had wonderful results from box color. You don't rush into it and plan ahead on what you want in your results. My dad was so excited when I let him dye my hair. My mom took a few days to notice.

Evening Ransom: My problem with e-salon was my hair just kept getting darker. I am strawberry blonde, and ended up auburn. Thanks, I've been enjoying your videos.

J W: I enjoy your peaceful calm attitude towards this explanation <33 Super helpful I'm sure everyone can appreciate it!

mechelle vaughan: So very kind of you to share your wisdom on hair with those of us who might not know where to begin & especially with doing it yourself . .. Not everyone can afford the salon. Hopefully it will save many from experiencing the nightmares that I’ve had suffer with box color that my husband still to this day calls it a ten $ box of problems btw...Your right.. Many would not be willing to share this information as you have.. Therefore you must care more!! :-) Well, thanks once again... have safe/wonderful day Xx

Christina Thomas: This is why I f%#& with you! I have 4 kids, 2 of which are 9 month old twins and I have NO me time right now. I love going to the salon but with babies and a pandemic I have had to resort to box color for my grey hairs Thank you for this

jane doe: I uses the excellence blond that you mentioned. They have an extra lightening set of about 4 colors and I used the ash blond on my dark brown hair. Gave a great blond color but burnt the hell out my skin and I had to use baby button balm to prevent the burn. Also was a very dark root regrowth area. Also damaged my waist length hair. I now use natural instincts semi permanent. I'm 55 with dark brown and perhaps 30 percent gray. Small uplift in color, less visible root growth and more gentle. I like it.

Jessica Dias: i love these videos! how often should we tone hair and color roots for grays so that we can still be gentle on hair structure?

ninper007: Thank you for always being so kind and caring in sharing your knowledge for all that search for the info you provide. Especially the Diy blonde upkeep! God bless!

kristen louise: I get my hair done at both salon and at home. Thankyou so much for your amazing vids. I love how down your earth you are and that u help everyone no matter what. God bless sweetie

leigh: I love your hair color!! I have dark hair with some grey and i have been wanting to go blonde again! I love how yours is a little more blonde in the front and its not brassy at all! I had someone tell me that i cant wear any red because of my complexion but i believe i can wear a burgundy red or purple red also the dark hair with blue is pretty. I have always loved blonde hair though and. yours is perfect!!

Jayne Read: I have very fine, fragile hair that breaks easily, my hair was always naturally med/ blonde and very silky, but I've always had salon highlights. The pandemic meant no salon, so my hair grew out lighter than I expected, lighter it used to be, as I now have grey mingled in and it is less silky. I have done nothing to it and it looked much fairer than before but just a bit dull and non- descript. Is there something out there that I could use just to brighten it, without brassiness. As my hair is quite delicate I have never been brave enough to use a box colour.

Aura Aguirre: I love your videos! You are so sweet and kind to share your knowledge. I appreciate you being understanding that some really cannot afford a hairdresser but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve hair that makes them feel beautiful.

Beth: I've heard a lot of negative things about Olia. Like it makes your hair fall out, and washes out in only a couple washes. I planned on using Olia to go back to my natural until I heard about the hair loss. That scared me away.

juli loo: I have medium brown with lots of gray so I buy a dark blonde to cover the gray. It looks natural and fabulous. Never had any strange color issues.

Amber Bamber: I have used boxes and i have spent hundreds at salons. Boxes work fine unless you want good highlights or mixed colors etc. I dont assume my hair will look like the box but hopefully close to what I am aiming for. Thanks for giving education on box dyes

Ann Kelly: I am constantly trying to get the warmth out of my hair but to no avail. I've messed up lately and dyed my hair from a box in a Garnier natural ash but it went dark with warmth to 90% of hair. I then tried to rectify it with a Clairol Light Ash blonde but this made it warmer and it now looks like a warmy ginger brown. On other people, I love it but on me, it is not good. I yearn for the day to go back to being a blonde but an ash blonde. My natural colour is brown with hints of auburn... this inevitably comes through sooner or later no matter if I get it perfectly done at a salon. I don't have a lot of money to spend on my hair and since lockdown, it has had to be the box colourings. I've tried Fanola for yellow or orange hair and these have disappointed me greatly... not one bit of change except to my hands ! My hair is long so the porosity to the ends is nice and fair but a few inches upwards it is multi tonal and mostly gingers. Can you please offer a suggestion like a toner (I've tried Wella Colour Fresh toners before) and the silver shampoos but they don't work. Not sure why. My hair is in good condition although I'm slowly receding now at the temples!!! Many thanks in anticipation.

Hedgehog: I learned the hard way not to pick a colour based what’s on the front of the box... thanks for this video!

Roxanne Rodriguez: That's me! ‍♀️ This is my first time watching your videos! I subscribed of course. We can't all afford the salon. (I've had my hair salon colored once, and omg it was amazing!) Thank you for sharing this info with us!!! It's like you "remember where you came from" and you're not forgetting about us little people, lol. Thank you!!

Joan Gentile: I love your hair color, Sylvia!! It's beautiful!! Thank you for sharing your videos with us!! We appreciate it!! Very good information!!

chiara campion: This is my first video of yours, thank you for not assuming "everyone knows" you, as so many other creators do. Brilliant information, exactly what I was looking for- subbed

wooogie: i recently just used the olia box dye in black and it came out absolutely amazing over my faded purple hair

Maura Ronda: I just tried the Kristen Esse gloss and love it. It did not change m to hair color but it made it look healthier. Thank you very informative

Norman Hopfensperger: Hi Elle we have a question for you. My wife has long brown and gray hair, we are going to color her hair, using preference 8UA, a nice ash blonde shade. Is it okay to leave it on more than the recommended time? We have 6 kits to use. What do you think? Thanks again!

Greg Crabb: I used Clairol Ultra Blue (not sure they still sell it) many years ago...it made my hair like Eminem's with absolutely zero orange! But it took 90 minutes to do it.

Andreea Ilie: Always wanted to know which box colour is more save, especially now during quarantine and salons are still close. Thank you for this video

brittney zora: Hi! What would you recommend to match a natural dirty blonde? I am trying to go back natural (I am white cool blonde) and it’s been impossible for me to find a box that matches my natural dirty blonde. Thank you! ☺️

Connie Schafhauser: Great information! Thanks for doing this video. Between box color and gloss, which would you say would last longer for depositing color on brunette hair color?

Kari: 1. Wanted a balayage and ended up with tiger stripes. Wanted a balayage on my dark black hair level 1 virgin hair. 2. Wanted a gold caramel and it was orange 3. Went to sally's to buy toner so that only my tiger stripes would tone. From what I gather from your vid the guy sold me permanent hair dye. When I applied it to my hair and was done my natural hair lifted and it's now reddish orange hair with blonde highlights. This is what I was sold 9AA-BV/30D.

Savannah Blackhawk-McCormick: Thank you girl. I want to go lighter. I have dark hair but it's orange/blonde and I ordered from salleys but can't afford lighteer so this is what I'm going get this box

Maleigh Johnson: Olia is my favorite! I just so wish that they offered more shades

Bella Diaz: Ive used alot of dyes over the years and my 2 fav at home are def Olia and Garnier Bleach. The garnier takes my dark brown to literally a level 7 or 8 in one time. I always use coconut oil as treatments and i tome with a conditioner instead. Sometiems ill use wella but i feel wella puts even more burn and chemicals after bleaching. So i stick with conditioners that are purple.

Leslie Jacobson: Please comment on boxed metallic dyes. My 15 yr. old granddaughter learned a hard lesson after using this in a pink shade. Her natural hair is medium brown and after using metallic dye, her hair is a slight reddish light brown. Recently she wanted to go lighter (Jennifer Anniston) blonde but was told a chemical reaction would occur & ruin her hair. 2 to 3 yr. grow out. Her hair is long.

Deb Storybags: Great video! I color my short gray hair at home. My daughter goes to salon for blonde hair. She bleaches then tones a very light ash blonde. In a week or so beautiful lightest blonde. Expensive but they do it right. Her hair is very long. She’s natural med brown. So she gets her hair almost white then 2 weeks later she puts on a semi pink color. She’s an artist.

Christa: Thank you for this video! I am a brunette and I'm starting to get a few grays here and there. Do you have a boxed demi permanent that you'd suggest?

samantha aeslynn: super helpful video however i think it’s important to be aware that if you do the henna-based color it will be more difficult to get the color out if you decide you want to bleach it as henna is very hard to get out!

roedhunt: Thank you for doing this video! I was disappointed though that there was no mention of worst box hair color, which you promoted in your title.

Melissa: I'd like to try eSalon but when I went through the consultation it wouldn't let me choose the shade I'd like to try (same problem as another online custom color site I've heard of). They base it all on your natural hair and eye color and apparently don't take into account if your hair is lightened (although it does ask you). My natural color is dark brown but I bleach it to a light blonde, then add a darker blonde on top of that (like beige) because a pale blonde doesn't go well with my skin and eye color. I don't know if anyone else does this but it's how I've always colored my hair (not at every coloring, just whenever I've gone from a dark back to blonde). I guess I'd have to lie and choose a light shade as my "natural" color so it'll let me choose from the blonde shades at the end.

Antineal: I used Loreal Colo Rista blonde bleach . Then after 2 weeks I put an Alaska blonde dye over the top and it came out beautiful this blonde is my favorite so far from box blondes I was so happy it came out pretty . It's left my hair so soft and healthy. ❤

Lee Edwards: First i would like to say how much i love your videos! Ok i hv been getting highlights in for my dark blonde hair for many yrs. A mixup with time i decided to just go get at my hairdresser my whole head of long fine hair which was getting pretty dark blonde several inches from roots done just all blonde, no highlighting sandy like yours which I so regret but now its just flat, no dementions, no highlights, just all flat and very lite blonde. It's not gold or sandy just very lite blonde. So my question is, 1 for the health of my hair wait 6 wks or more to fix this correct or can they? Oh I also in my icon pic hv slightly feathered hair on the sides. This pic is not what I hv at moment it's just a lite flat blonde. 2- U never mentioned nice and easy hair boxes?, I am curious. I use to use nice and easy lite ash blonde but I never knew about brassy shampoos back them. I am in my young 60's. When they show on the box the before picture is that dyed hair or natural colour? And 3rd question can the hair salon add in low lights now to give my hair dimension being so blonde?? I dont know what to do. I hv healthy hair but I am so use to highlights or dementions I can't handle this flat really lite blonde. Any advice on my questions I really would appreciate, Thankyou.

Priscilla Ivette: I needed you a month ago! I definitely had a boxed blonde tragedy on my brunette hair.

spi3es: This video is very useful.Even my(best friend)hairdresser didn't give me info like that.I appreciate it.When you said why you do this It was so amazing that I almost cried.

Rosalia: I dyed my virgin hair in june to a slightly lighter color, like a copper brown and now I am going for a more ginger/copper color and I know my roots wont look so nice since its way lighter than my brown hair so I wanna find a good brand so I can just touch it up with a ginger box dye instead of going to pay $60 for a touch up every 6 weeks

Kerrie: Any advice for coarse, frizzy, aging hair that resists color? My stylist uses Goldwell 3/4 permanent and I am lucky if it lasts two weeks before it has noticeably faded. My hair grows fast too which adds to the problem. Because it doesn't last long I have done it myself with the same product/color and it the coverage and durability is even worse. It's getting really expensive to maintain and I want to DIY. I am willing to switch brands if needed. Any tips, tricks or suggestions? --- I want to try the esalon product. I currently use the Goldwell 8NN does that mean I am a level 8? The esalon dark blonde is listed as a 7 and I don't want to be too dark.

Miss Jnet: You look beautiful Ellie, recently I used Josh Wood box dye. I seem to get orange/ ginger root with every brown dye that I’ve used and I tried them all. Even with black dye my roots are orange/ ginger. What can I do?

Rebeca Rojas: You are so amazing!! GOD bless you I been watching your videos and I’m getting prepare to do my own hair ... I have all your step written down Many blessing ❤️

sandy949: Your hair looks stunning!!

Lori Doyle: Thank you so much for this info. I am naturally in between medium and light golden brown. I love Garnier. I cover my grays and brighten my color to lightest golden brown. This color does not exist as I have to mix light golden brown and dark neutral blond. I am very lucky to only need 20 volume even for blonde highlights. I get my highlights done twice a year professionally. And do the growth. This combo gives me beautiful golden and red tones. I do my roots and do a soap cap (1/3 color 1/3 shampoo 1/3 water) and only leave it on 5 minutes.

Meghan: I have to explain to my teenager that box dye isn’t like a crayon. She learned that lesson, the very hard way.

cristy ruiz: Would you recommend to use Kristin’s Signature Gloss every 4 weeks? Or will this damage you the hair?

AmitraRadD: Sooo appreciate finding you today! New to wanting to color my hair at home.

lcsask: Stylists hate and will always be against box dyes because they’ll be losing clients if they choose to do it themselves.

Janice Reneau: It's a maize! I have 90% grey now but originally was a level 5. Greyed yearly, I use a base of 7 with partial highlights. Gave highlights a rest in 2020 and 2021 using Madison Reed at home but it all turned red and faded in 2 weeks. My Italian heritage is a major culprit - I have a lot of fine wavy frizzy hair. Bottom line I need a gentle rich base color (more ash) so my hair doesn't fry. In normal times, I go to a hi end salon in NYC but do my roots in between. I don't mind doing my own hair but finding the best color and gentleness for my kind of hair is a big challenge. What do you suggest for color product and highlighting?

Stephanie LaFever: New. You are stunning. Thank you for the different perspective. I’m a fan of going to the stylist, but it wouldn’t sell if people weren’t using it, so it’s good you are willing to educate the public. I wouldn’t expect the platinum toner to lighten my hair, but will it remove the brassiness from my lighter highlights? Is it a waste of money? Also if you use a bleach kit, can you add Olaplex to any kit?

Nicki Price: WOW. I just stumbled across your yourtube vid's. You are awesome and have such an amazing attitude that addresses the needs that many people have. Thank you for clarifying your approach BTW, I know you've been on youtube for a long time but this has motivated me to go through your other great vids as they add so much value!

Maddalena: You are so humble and sweet, and also incredibly helpful.

sajjy sajjy: hey @ellebangs which hair dye would you recommend for big beards? I've tried henna but doesn't last long and is really messy too... Btw so many hair dye products out there and I'm left clueless tbh

shakeel Sookraj: I really love how you explain everything thanks.

Jasmine King: Hi I just found your channel and absolutely love it. I would like to help my mom out. She has grey hair and uses box hair dyes but has a reaction to all the products she uses. I’ve done research and found a product called Eco colors that doesn’t use any harsh chemicals for their coloring. I’d like your opinion on this product. Do you know much about this brand? Do you have a recommendation of a product my mom could use where she wouldn’t have an itching reaction when I dye her hair. Please let us know. Thanks!
