Hi everyone, I'm Deena, I'm my colorist here at Madison Reed, I'm also on our color crew. So I've probably spoken to quite a few of you, so hi in this tutorial. I'M gon na show you how I went from this. To this. I have a lot of gray hair I've been resistant and I started graying as early as 16. So it's something that runs in my family and I'm sure some of you can relate to that as well. So, let's get started to start. I'M gon na clip up my hair into four sections. If your hair is on the shorter side, don't worry so much about the clips. Sometimes you can just maybe clip up the front half of your hair, so you can just use two clips. We also include the barrier cream inside your kit. What this does it prevent staining along your skin and your ears, and what you want to do is be careful not to use too much, because you could possibly get it right on your gray hairs. And what will happen? Is the color won't penetrate through the barrier cream? So there's a generous amount in here. So little goes a long way. So now I'm gon na put on my gloves now, I'm gon na mix the color. This is your activator bottle, and this is your color. The tube is in here. What you're gon na do is for the tube of hair color into your bottle of developer and shake it out. I'M also going to show you how to do your color with a bowl and a brush by pouring each component into this bowl and brush mix it up and apply it. That way. Personally, that's how I do my hair color and I never miss a spot that way, I'm going to show you how to do a bottle application so once you've mixed it up, you want to remove this little cap and start where your more gray. So, for me, it's more on the top and then on the hairline be sure to fully saturate. So that's how you would use a bottle application. What I'm gon na do right now, for you is show you how to use a bowl and a brush. We'Re gon na set put the link down below for you to see, and this is my favorite way to apply my color, because I do find that the thinner brush helps me with my thinner sub partings when coloring my hair. What I find works for me is, I start in the middle and I work top to bottom, and I continue my thin section as if I were turning pages of a book. This is what your application should look like when you're done make sure it's fully saturated. I like to even Pat my hair back and make sure it's blended. Well, if you have any extra color in your bowl or bottle, be sure to use it and touch up any resistant areas like your hairline. Also, our regular processing time is 35 minutes, but for resistant Gray's at an additional 10 more minutes, they'll go for 45 minutes. We also include a cleansing wipe in your kit. This is great for touching up while you're applying your color. If you get it on your skin, but we're gon na go ahead and do it right now, after my color just to make sure we didn't see the skin. So here are my results at the Medina Brown. It'S a level 5 hair color, I'm very happy with the results. It does a great job covering my gray. As you can see, they're gone, I have nice shine in my hair. I did process it for 45 minutes, which is what we recommend. If you do have it stubborn gray and remember start your processing time after you complete the application, so let's say you start your application at 12, you complete your application by 12:10. That'S when you're gon na start your timer for 45 minutes. So there you have it. My name is Dina. Please give us a call, Cha or email. You can also comment below. We love to hear from you. We love to give you a personalized consultation and match you up and you can enjoy your color. Just like I am thank you. You

Vanessa Jordan: Your hair looks amazing! I’m waiting on my first order, my mom was a beautician she was so amazing with color! After I lost her to breast cancer, I really couldn’t step in someone else’s shop for a really long time! She had taught me a lot, I just started coloring my own hair, and I’ve really had some great results but now with the gray I’m finding it washes out so quickly so I’m really hoping to see better results with this

ketchup: Thank you! I've tried so many different ways of applying my color to my roots myself and have had so much trouble. Following this tutorial has made the application so much easier. I wear glasses and don't have a good mirror setup behind me to see the back of my head while both my hands are occupied. So using the page flipping method, as well as having PLENTY of color and brushing it onto both sides of the root with each section was game changing for me. Can't thank you enough !

Birdyfi lovingheart: You're so nice! I started going grey at 26 and am now 51 so one year short of being grey for half my life! Great tips for applying the colour.

Diane Banks: great tutorial - it's messy for newbies like me - you make it look easy, lol. i always end up doing 45 minutes processing time with my hairdresser (who i miss right now, waaaa) but the extra processing time really does help with the stubborn grays :)

Bonnie Sakow: Hi, Dinna. I am also a hereditary grey girl. I have a daughter with the best , most thick hair who also got this, sorry Amanda. I went blonde at age 40 due to this as I was coloring my hair every 3-4 weeks. Now, I color every 12 weeks as the white blends. Also, I went shorter. I use a Capri blonde and love it. Thanks for the video.

Cathryn Wade: Thank you so much for the great details and also for being so fun and smiley...makes the process much less intimidating!

Aisha Cruz: Great tutorial! I’m greying around my edges and it’s so frustrating. My hair is very sensitive to all dyes and usually breaks off/thins after a a few applications. I’m truly praying Madison Reed is the remedy to this problem. I receive my kit in a few days. Uber excited.

Kewljean: Thank you very much for this tutorial. I just used the Madison Reed color on my hair, per your instructions, and I swear it came out same as yours! My hair has a beautiful shine and all the grey is covered. I tend to wash my hair alot (almost daily) so now I'll see how durable it is. But so far, more than happy with the excellent results and current soft, shiny condition of my hair (which is normally fine, dry, and prone to damage and frizziness).

Nefertari: Thank you ever so much! I've started becoming grey at 23 three and ever since it has been a massive source of dramma for me, on top of that it is genetic as both my parents have gobe grey at the same age aproximately. You have reassured me that I am not a freak and there is a way of coping with those stubborn greys.

Marisa Lara: I'm really happy to find your DIY video, especially during the current global quarantine, and having to color my own hair (Oh No!!). Which reminds me why I miss my hairstylist so much and especially her magic scalp massages, which can cure any headache! One thing I would REALLY love to see is how Dinna blowed dried her own hair. That has always been a big problem for me to DIMyself. And what kind of hair brushes she used? Looking forward to placing my order now! Thank you

Dorichan EatsPlants: Excellent tutorial that's makes it look like I can do this at home! I had gone to my colorist/hairdresser every 4 weeks for the last ten years. We both retired, and I can no longer afford a monthly colorist and "need" to do this myself and haven't had a best results. Tried semi-permanent last week, and it didn't take, then tried again this morning, and it looks like crap. I will order Madison Reed, follow the video and pray. Watching this video is giving me the confidence I need to try again. Thank you Dinna!

Tori Leira: Easy, straight to the point, short and sweet!

LaDee Daa: A little trick I use if my barrier cream doesn’t block color from staining my skin, is glycolic acid. I’m a sensitive skin type so I don’t use any AHA’s for a week prior. After I wash the color out, I use any AHA (exfoliates top layer of skin) on hairline stains. Hope that helps

FlippingBunny: Thank you for sharing! It’s good to see a real video. Some people have a handful of grey hairs and refer to themselves as grey etc etc. I’m 90% grey at 45. So I decided to go platinum blonde lol. But I’ll hang around and watch some of your vids ❤️

Strawberry 1: I love your 'pages of a book' application style for front AND back. Makes perfect sense and is simpler. Thank you.

Sonja Suracha: Thanks. I am going to try this tomorrow. My grey coverage only last about 2-3 weeks. It's very hard to get my edges covered. Thanks again!

Nicole Sandberg: Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video. I found it very clear and easy to follow. I can't wait to try it. Stay safe.

Sheila Bee: Dinna I love your method and your result is gorgeous. Just got my first kit and I hope to do half as good as you.

Natsumi Taniguchi: Thank you so much for this video, I just dyed my mothers grays successfully for the first time in my life and it could not have been a better mothers day present. thank you x million!

ThuThao Le: Your instruction is great. It’s quite easy for the beginner like me. I have successfully applied your way. Thanks.

Ela Basque: I did my hair already, love the tips here though! Next time, I’m gonna do it like her, it’s more practical! My hair is so shining and silky and soft! This is the best dye ever!

Robin Williams: I love how you went step by step. One question though....it didn't appear you did the rest of your hair. So how long do you leave the color on for the resistant gray BEFORE you color the rest of your hair? Or do you leave it all on for the 45 min?

MILI'MANSION JADA: Lovely and clear explanation. Thanks. Why would anyone even give this video a thumbs down? Ridiculous!

Mrs. Health: Everything simple and well shown. Thank you very much.

Caroline Foster: Thank you for explaining and showing us step by step directions! Very good!

Nancy Gurish: Thanks for this video. I love to see other people's techniques and recommendations for this! Appreciate your help! ~~~Nancy

Ariana Rivera: Thank you so much! I found it very clear and easy to follow... thanks for sharing

translating service: Has anyone ever told You that You are a genius? I have just finished coloring my 99% white hair first time in my life by myself according to Your tutorial and I was successful !!! Thanks and blessings!!! I could never imagine that I would do it. These days when every hairdressers are closed Your tutorial was so helpful.

JenP W: Colour is usually 1:1 color/peroxide. But with grey you Add twice the colour to 1x the peroxide. 2:1. Also, Leave on for 45 minutes and no less. It takes time to penetrate the grey . Also if you are using boxed color the peroxide is probably a 10 volume and that isn’t going to work well. You need a 20volume on stubborn grey

Shvonne Perkins: Why is it so cathartic to watch someone else section their hair with a tint brush? I feel like my blood pressure just dropped by watching this! I love it and I love that this video shows both application methods =)

Judith Inglesby: Dinna, you explained the process very concise and succinct. Thank you for sharing your expertise.

Nina R: Excellent video, that's a really smart and easy way to demonstrate on how to apply. Thank you

Tracy Haselden: Your coloured hair is beautiful! You would look equally gorgeous with the grey grown out, it’s fabulous, lovely white grey!

sandra daniele: Hi Dinna, thanks for this demonstration...really helpful! I have dark brown hair and really don't know what colour to choose to achieve a dark brown / almost black hair colour that doesn't have red or green undertones. Is there something you can suggest? Also, wondering is there anything you can add with the colour treatment to provide additional shine?

Debbie Evans: I love my Madison Reed color - I use LUCCA LIGHT BROWN - 7NGV - I get perfect results every time! I have a few stubborn greys and 45 minutes works great! Thank you Dinna!

Cheryl Cici Charles: Hi Dinna, just seen your tutorial and really enjoyed it and yes learned from it in a few ways, THANK YOU! Where can you get a level five hair dye? Do you sell them? The dyes I’ve used cover my hair pretty much but there’s those areas that come out this strange color, more with a grayish tone I guess I’m saying. Your hair color looked so deep, rich, shiny and healthy. But most of all your color looked true all the way around, very evenly. It looked beautiful and you did a awesome job! Can you advise me ? Cici

Norine Carroll: Thank you this was really helpful! My kit comes today!

Lisa Collins: I love this hair color. I need to color my roots every 3 weeks so I go to a salon and use Madison reed every other time. The color is beautiful and leaves my hair looking and feeling great!

Seona: My solution .... I haven't dyed my hair for about 15 months now! Going natural....best decision I've ever made

Joan Gentile: It came out great!! Beautiful color!!

Ravinder Kaur: Thank you so much for this helpful video. Clear instructions, and a lovely voice and manner!

Diane Terry: I was 16 when a guy found my 1st gray hair At A Party! I was standing talking to a group of friends, it was truly devastating. He stood there holding it up to the light saying something like this is impossible. I was speechless. It's not like I had a whole lot going for me standing at 5'3" and 130lbs. LOL That 130lbs sounds good now but back then it was equivalent to 180lbs. I was hoping you could tell me if there's a way to dye your hair brown and get a reddish highlight that will come out looking natural. I had a dark brown color with beautiful red highlights but honestly cant find a color to match. I also have thought of trying to dye my hair sliver, but fear I'll look much older or washed out. I'm 53 yo almost 54 yo and haven't ever had my hair done professionally. I know it's the only way to guarantee a good job but I've been doing my hair a long time now. Honestly cant really afford the prices they charge. If I decide to go silver I'd most likely go in or have my friend melissa do it. She owned her own shop when she was younger and had done a beautiful job highlighting my hair once. Thank you for sharing and look forward to your possible answer.

Alicia: Thank you Dina! The u-tube instructional was very helpful. I'm going to try to color my hair at home since all the shops are closed! My hair is white and my color is blonde; so I'm hoping I can't mess up too badly!

Kathleen Malley: This was very helpful! I usually do a zone 2 as well. Sometimes with a tint and sometime with no color. I wonder if I apply that with a brush or bottle?

Lizzie Sangi: Great tutorial! Just what I needed to see. Love you guys!

Vicki: Thanks Dinna. That was so helpful. You are so beautiful, and the color looks so good on you.

Anna Maria: Thank you! I did my own hair for the first time in over ten years and saved myself a ton of money

eurikamerleau: Would be helpful to see a close up of the results. No one ever mention how much lighter the grays can appear compared to the color in the rest of the hair.

Jean Halle: So helpful, I did not set the timer when I finished so it didn't process enough. If you want to use the gloss on the ends do you do it at another time or continue after you set the timer for the roots?

Twila Gullatt: You made it look so easy I like it

Neens gems: I just started graying and was recommmed the pescara black and it is the best. I keep the mixture on my hair for a solid 45 minutes.starting from front to back. Loyal customer.

Sharon J: Okay Madison, you still make it look much easier than it really is to do. I had no problem with the front or the main "Parts" but in the back of my head and trying to hold a mirror and make sure not to get it any where else? Ha!!

nancy nancy: Thanks for showing this! Can’t wait til my color arrives Thursday!

ChicagoParisJen: Thanks so much for this - one big question.....aren't you supposed to run the remaining color for x time through the rest of your hair to even it out at the end or is this step just not necessary? Help!

Samantha Recollet: Thank you I’m 22 and I noticed that I’m starting to get gray hair and this for some reason made me feel a little better out it

Rebeca Puebla: Thanks for the upload! Also, I think your grey hair would look gorgeous as it is.♥️

Carol Robinson: Thanks for your help in the video. Good instructions and great help to do it yourself and save some money

Marina Marina: Thank you. I am coloring twice a month. You video is helpful ❤️

Theresa Rogers: You made it look so easy I get into muddle that's a beautiful colour what is it and your end result was absolutely gorgeous xx

Angélique C: Thank you. I think it would be helpful to know how to colour hair that has very resistant grey hair and also streaks/ highlights. I had a balayage done last month and now have grey hairs coming in.

madeleine sanchez: Awesome, simply explanation, such a pleasure listening to you!

Joan Gentile: Thank you for sharing this video with us!! ❤

Dot Holcomb: When the corona virus shut everything down, I panicked. I had colored my hair when I was young, but now, I'm 71. HOWEVER, everyone has complimented me on my hair color. Got someone to check for places that I'd missed & they said there were no "places"! My hair is better than ever. This is better than what my stylist uses at his salon & he is very picky! I've already asked him if I could bring my own color, but pay him the same. That's how much I like it! He said "YES". It appears to be good for your hair!

Tramar Herrera: I'm a natural brunette, but your red coloring took away the dark circles from my eyes and made my green eyes pop. Thank you

Hollis 1: What if you’ve never used this before? Couldn’t the roots end up a different color than the rest of your hair if your only doing the roots? My roots aren’t all grey but I have some and I’d like to cover it. My roots that aren’t grey are actually darker than the rest of my hair. Once my hair gets in the sun it starts to get lighter so my roots are darker( my natural hair color)

Carolyn Rombardo: Dina..u were awesome..that was the most helpfull video i have seen..infact u were more help then the women who do my hair normaly..bc of surgery im unable to go..so im tryin it myself..ur video covered all my questions..n more..u were right to the point on time..thanks so much !!!!...

Deborah Roberts: Love your color. I am attempting to do my own color. I watched you while you were doing your color. I hope that my color turns out as well as your color.

Maritza Perez: Hi, today I will do the following... I have been dying my hair dark brown with the age defy box. I bought dark blonde natural from Loreal preference and will mix it with 2 or 3 package of ardell red, gold, corrector. I have a lot of greys on the root like you. Should I start from the ends and then to the root or start from the root and then the whole hair? Please advise. Thank you.☺

Mooi Ying Cheah: Thank you very much for this video. Now I can dye my hair at home

Ardel Addison: What was the little packet for stain removing off your skin ?? Ty for sharing. I normally use the Revelon box kit and notice that the color goes through the gloves and my hand and nails are stained for a few days. I've tried lemon, acetone to remove it off my skin but with very little results. Ty for your input.

Patricia Bilynsky: After you color roots, do you apply the rest of the color to rest of your hair to run it through? Also, I didn't see you use the cap? Is the cap necessary, or can this be skipped during the process?

twinvibes: I started graying at 13. thank you!

Bella Chance: What a gorgeous, lovely lady. And the hair colour, condition and style is absolutely stunning.

diane sykes: How does the process of going grew begin? I’m 58 and so tired of dying roots every 3 weeks! I saw a beautiful grey on Pinterest that had such nice dark shades of grey, so pretty!

Jewels Parrish: I'm a newbie to Madison Reed, so I've watched the how to videos and although still a bit skeptical, I'm diving in. Gonna try the blue shampoo to cut brassiness next.

a. Phillips: Best hair color in the world. She’s very pretty and does a great job of explaining the how to get best coverage.

Jeanette Steele: I am going to get a brush like that, looks like it covers roots better then the bottle I have been using. Thanks for the tips.

Marty Tullio: How often should I take the hair color all the way down to the ends and leave for five minutes or longer? I color every four weeks.

Jo- Ana: How do you get your hair so nice and sleek like that. Looks healthy love it. ❤

M Turner: Looks amazing ! Great video , thank you !❤️

Oksana Gora: It's 55mns in total. It's crazy, all my hair will fol off. I'm putting for 20 mns in total and it's works perfectly! !!

RM- Nelson: Thank you Dina for sharing, I'm 71 years old n been tinted my hair for 50 yrs.. You do it so simple, my hair is not even an I have struggles. But then I have fibromyalgia and my hair is dead or it looks like it.. But thank you again for sharing.

Abbi Standish: I noticed that she did not continue the application down through the rest of her hair (it looked like it was only applied to the roots, with the length remaining dry). Is this only recommended for touch ups? If this is my first time using one of your colors, should I continue the color all the way through the length of my hair? Thank you!

Amy Chambers: Thank you! How often do you touch-up your grays?

Lourdes Sibug: you are very pretty and you explained everything clearly. Thanks for sharing this

Barbara Schellato: I love love my color! However although it covered most of my gray, and I have alot! There was still a trace of gray on the top. I used bowl and brush. Any hint what i did wrong? Regardless i love the product! My hair never felt so good! I would and have revommed it to others!

foundtherestroom: Great result ! Very beautiful !

Kate Parkes: Easy to understand. Thanks so much

Vicky Bastin: Hi from Belgium, Dinna! Like Marisa Lara - I'm happy about your advice. Your teaching is very enjoyable and efficient! Thanks a lot.

Ruby B: While you're waiting for the coloring/dye to do it's magic, do you need to cover your hair with a plastic cap or just leave it out?

roberto444hot: My wife of 40 years just asked me to watch your video - first time in my life that I’m doing greys. If successful may open my own salon

heather esders: Omgosh!! I LOVE THAT COLOR ON!! Gives your skin a nice glow!

OPUS Digital Audio: I am a male. Have thin fine hair. I have white hair coming in, like 40 percent white. My hair color on is brown, like Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr. (on a hair ring it’s #3). I am using Matrix Socolor 7AA (to avoid reddish tint in lights, or orange and that works well). I used to use 6AA but barber said it’s too dark. Since my white hair is accelerating fast (not gray, white like Santa), my normal 50 percent color and 50 percent #10 toner I would apply and wait 15 minutes. I don’t want to burn my thin fine hair so scared to use 20. Not sure if my fear is correct though. Anyway, my white hair is not taking the color. It appears like a tiny bit clearly you can see the white hair still. You recommend 45 minutes. Is this safe? Is my problem due to toner strength? Old toner (not sure how to tell). The color mixes as it should. Should I be using a different ratio? Until now before I had a lot of white hair, it looked great, but, now it’s not. Is it too soon to retry, it’s been about 7 days. What can I do to get my thin fine white hair to absorb the color? Thank you.

rana Sabbouh: I love how spontaneous you are and beautiful smile you have. Thank you for this lovely video

Haz Nora: Wow.. the way u do it exactly like a pro..I am messy no matter what.. but Im happy with the result in the end

Rupan Kansal: Thank you for showing the easiest and neatest way to color. Is there any hair color you will recommend for dark hair with out ammonia!!

My Beehive: How many times you color your hair in a month? Me, 2x which is very tiring. Any suggestion on how color can last longer than that?

Mila Kozakov: Wonderful teacher thanks sooooo much !!!

LouAnn Rounseville: This was very helpful. Thank you.

Alex: Great video! Thanks!! How long does it last ?
