If you drop a pretty penny coloring your hair, then you definitely want it to look beautiful and vibrant for as long as possible. But since so many factors can easily make hair color fade, turn brassy, or change color completely, it's best to know what you can do to counteract those situations. That's why we turned to celebrity hair colorist George Papanikolas to find out his pro tips to maintain hair color. You can rest assured that your locks will continue to look shiny and gorgeous up until your next color update — whether at the salon or at home.

We'Re here with celebrity hair, colorist Jorge Chavez, Nicolas at the Andy Lacan salon and he's going to give us some tips on how to maintain your hair color. The main thing you want to do with hair color is you know if you want to make sure you're using really gentle shampoos? You want something: that's really light detergents. It'S not gon na strip. Everything out. They just spend all this money in the salon to get done. Another tip right after you get your hair done is then you wait like two days before your first shampoo. That way, the color has a more time to really fully adhere to the hair, the shampooing and immediately after your color service might strip some of the color out. How long should you go in for touch-ups with your hair color, if you're doing it all over color or single process color? That color should be touched up about every four to eight weeks. If you're getting highlights, you really shouldn't be going in any more than every three months. How do you keep your hair healthy once you've started coloring it take an extra step and use a deep conditioner. Like joique, those were vital of that's gon na repair, the hair, because when you're putting chemicals on, especially when you're lightening the hair you're causing some damage to it, you shouldn't use a deep conditioner every day. That'S a mistake! A lot of people make tell you the deep conditioner every single time they wash their hair and deep conditioner. Is that a lot of protein in it so too much protein can make the hair brittle? Thank you so much for all of these tips. They'Re very helpful, and thanks for watching does sugar TV

Susan Yara: @SuziiQ418 @angel940309 It's actually pretty normal to lose a lot of hair in the shower, especially if you aren't washing your hair every day. But, in the case of deep conditioning, there are several factors--are you combing the conditioner into your hair? That would pull out more hair. Or if you're just using too much deep conditioner, it could be drying your hair out like George was saying in the video. If so, then definitely use the deep conditioner less...more like once every 2 or 3 weeks.

Susan Yara: @taya888 It really depends how often you wash your hair. If it's every day, then that might be too much for your hair. If it's used once a week, that's not too bad.

Susan Yara: @avocadosheep Glad it helps! Thanks for watching!

Susan Yara: @liumatilda408 Haha! No prob with the tips. The conditioner just went on sale so it should be easy to find within a month or so. :)

SuziiQ418: @Susanyara thanks susan. i don't comb through the conditioner & i used to do it once every 2 weeks or so but stopped all together now. i also just started washing my hair every other day b/c i hated seeing so much hair fall out but it falls out so much more now, i think i'm going to go back to washing it every day. thanks for your advice though! love your videos!

loriv77: Thanks Susan!!! Another helpful video!! <3

avocadosheep: super helpful!

Abigail Pastor: Can I use a coconut oil shampoo and conditioner?

Taya: is it bad if we use a hair mask as conditioner every time?

Brianna Selman: what about colors any tips on which colors last the longest without to much fading like red fades fast in my hair is there any colors that fade slower then reds ?

SuziiQ418: why does deep conditioning make SO MUCH hair fall out? (i don't have color-treated hair) i lose a lot of hair during & after my shower w/ regular shampoo & conditioner but deep conditioning magnifies the loss at least 10 fold...

loveyoumothermonster: When he says "everyday" about the conditioner to not be used everyday, does he mean everyday or everyone you shower? Because I shower one day yes, one day no, one day yes. So I shower 4 times a week.

liumatilda408: He is really buff haha :P but anyways, thanks for the tips, def trying out the deep conditioner if i can find it anywhere.

Susan Yara: @Bousilicious Haha. I'm sure he'll love this comment! :)
