Video Overview:

How to Fix Hair Breakage- Damaged Hair to Healthy Hair Care Tips.

This video is a discussion about the causes of hair breakage and split ends. There are many factors that contribute to breakage that we are well aware of like heat styling the hair, chemical treatments such as getting the hair bleached, colored, or chemically relaxed, and swimming in chlorine. But there are many other causes of breakage that are less commonly discussed that are super important to be aware of! I break those environmental & mechanical factors down in this video. I also share some tips on how to healing hair breakage with hair breakage treatments such as bond repair products, protein treatments, and more. If you're looking to grow long hair quickly and want tips on how to stop hair fall that happens from hair damage, this is a guide on how to get there!

Hey guys welcome back to my channel or welcome if you are new here for today's video we're going to be talking all about hair breakage for those that are not super familiar with me and my hair journey i'll, give you a brief little overview. I'Ve basically been on a hair healing journey since college, i'm gon na age myself. How long has it been this summer will be five years since i've been graduated from college. That happened fast, i'm gon na be on a hair healing journey for the rest of my life because of some of the things that i do to my hair, like bleaching, for example, and using heat, but i will literally never forget. I came home from college. I don't remember what year, but i was standing in the driveway unpacking the car moving back home for the summer and my mom looked at me dead in the eyes and was like what happened to your hair and she wasn't wrong. My hair went from looking full and luscious and healthy to the opposite of that really sad and flat and broken. So since then, i have done so many things to help to repair my hair so that it can actually grow longer and stronger. But i feel like i've, never really had clear scientific evidence or research to actually point to to prove why all those things worked until now. So whether you are dealing with a lot of existing breakage and on your own hair healing journey or you're, just trying to grow hair, that's longer and stronger, you've come to the right spot. We'Re going to jump right into that, but before we do for those of you that are not familiar with me and my channel, my name's abby and i love researching hair care and skin care and just reviewing new beauty finds in general to share with you guys. So if that is of interest to you, don't forget to subscribe to my channel and give this video a thumbs up. Those things really help to support me in my channel so that my videos are actually recommended to others. So that really really helps. Thank you. So much for doing that, your support means more than you know and also make sure to go. Follow me on instagram and tick tock. My username is abby young on both of those platforms as well, which is right here. Okay, let's jump into it. Okay, so i feel like, in order for us to really understand how to prevent breakage, we have to understand all the different causes of breakage and when i tell you that i dug through research for this video, i am not kidding. I spent hours reading highlighting finding articles and i found a lot of different scientific sources that i will link below if you're interested in reading up on this more but several different articles, i have a hair textbook that i now own that i am really excited about. So i'll link that below as well, but all of those articles helped to inform this video. Because i wanted to make sure, like i was saying in the beginning, that i had clear scientific kind of proof or research to back up some of the things that i'm talking about. Okay, so our hair is made up of proteins, lipids and water, and anything that compromises the structural components of the hair is what causes damage or a flaw in the hair that eventually leads to breakage. So while it's actually mechanical forces like brushing or combing through the hair that causes that snap or break in the hair, the root cause of the issue is cumulative damage and weakening of the hair fiber. And when it comes to most of the things that weaken the hair fiber, i feel like we have a good understanding of again most of them. So i don't need to spend a ton of time here talking about how heat damages the hair and chemical treatments like getting your hair, bleached or chemically relaxed or dyed can damage the hair we get it at this point, there's also environmental factors that people are definitely Aware of like, for example, swimming in a pool with chlorine, but there are other things that are not talked about as often that i think are overlooked a lot. That'S what not talked about as often means that are really important, because they can contribute just as much to hair damage. So the biggest thing to consider here when it comes to environmental factors, is uv exposure. Uv exposure is a huge culprit for hair damage. So if you are just letting your hair soak up the sun for hours and hours on end she's, getting seriously damaged, pollution and humidity play a role here too. Obviously, we cannot control the level of pollution in the air or humidity where we live, but humidity is not just related to geographical location, and this is the thing that blew my mind when i learned it, because this is not something that everyone just knows. In the same way that we know that straightening, our hair isn't good, for it, humidity affects everybody because well everyone that showers, i should say, because after we shower that environment is extremely humid and my mind was blown when i read about this, because there was specifically A line that said this can be just as if not more damaging to the hair than getting it chemically treated and they were like. So why is no one talking about this and i was like yeah? Why is no one talking about this? So that makes me want to create an entire video talking all about how water can damage the hair and how we can minimize that things. We need to think about because that could be a whole topic, but it makes so much sense to me now why my hair drastically improved when i stopped washing it every single day and started just washing it once a week. I always thought it was just because of the hard water, but it's the hard water plus just the actual water itself, that's damaging the hair, and then there are all the mechanical factors, the things that we actually do to our hair. That can cause that snap or break to finally happen. So these things are think of it like wear and tear to the hair, so lathering shampoo into the hair can cause breakage towel drying the hair. That makes so much sense to me, because i used to literally take a cotton towel and back and forth on my hair back in the day. Hairs rubbing at all can cause breakage so whether that is a hair rubbing against another hair or rubbing against a ponytail or a clip or your pillow case. Any of those things can cause the hair to break and then, of course, brushing or combing the hair. That last final thing that often causes that break to happen, but there's a couple things related to hair, brushing and combing that i found super interesting that i wanted to share. So if you have straight to wavy hair, there's evidence that shows that brushing the hair while wet is more likely to cause breakage than brushing it while dry. But the opposite is true. If you have curly to coily hair you're more likely to experience breakage if you brush, while dry than you, are well wet, but that's not all if you brush the hair dry, no matter what, even if you have straight to wavy, hair split ends actually form more Readily, while the hair is dry and brush dry than they do when the hair is wet, so it's like. Okay, we don't brush our hair. Of course, we still want to brush our hair, but i would say, in general, excessive brushing whether your hair is wet or dry, not good, and now that we know that it's the cumulative effect of all those different factors that damages and weakens the hair. It does make a lot more sense why our hair just looks healthier when it's shorter than when it's longer. So, if you have tried to grow your hair out really long before and you feel like it just starts to look stringy and gross, and not so healthy. But when you chop it off, it looks really healthy again. That is why, because that long, hair has just had more time to accumulate that damage and be exposed to all those factors that maybe we don't have as much control over so now that we're all freaking out a little bit about our hair breaking off. Let'S talk about ways to actually minimize this damage. If you are someone watching this, that already has a good amount of existing breakage and you're wondering if there's anything that you can do to heal that breakage, it's very difficult. To do that, i will say that my approach to hair damage is my same approach to sun damage that it's very, very difficult to reverse, so prevention is key, but i completely understand that if you're experiencing breakage you're like screw, you that's the last thing that you Want to hear so my top recommendation for that purpose by far is just olaplex as an entire brand. I know i've talked about them a lot, so i won't just sit here and say the same thing over and over again, but if you're not familiar with this brand, the reason why it's amazing for existing breakage is that they have an ingredient in all their products. That is specifically designed to mend broken hair, buns and you're not going to find that ingredient anywhere else. So it really is a one-of-a-kind type system, so i would recommend honestly all of their products. I have several videos talking about olaplex i'll link below. So if you want to see all their products in action, learn more ways that you can use their products because that can be kind of confusing those videos will be linked below. But if i had to recommend one product from them it would be their number three hair perfector, but i love all their stuff. The other route that you can go down for existing breakage is to be on the lookout for bunge repair products, and i put that in quotes because i have noticed so many brands, so many brands jumping on the coattails of olaplex and trying to basically come up With their own version of bond repair, but we now know that none of those brands are going to have products that have that ingredient in them. So what i have noticed about a lot of these reparative products from other brands is that what they have in them? That olaplex doesn't really have is a lot of different proteins for the hair, so protein and protein based ingredients are incredibly important for the health of our hair. As long as you don't have protein overloads so before i share these recommendations, if you think that your breakage is a result of protein build up on the hair, please don't seek out these products, because this could actually make that situation worse for you and stay tuned, Because i have a video that i'm going to be uploading very soon talking all about that and how i started to experience that, after using rice water, but for everybody else that is just dealing with breakage, i shouldn't say just any kind of breakage sucks. Let'S just clear that up, but people that are dealing with breakage from more common causes like heat and chemical treatments, then these sorts of products 100 could be really really helpful to you because again those sorts of things deplete or compromise the protein structure of the hair. So, while they're not going to be a permanent fix, like olaplex, is supposed to be as far as repairing those bonds, what they can do is temporarily help to strengthen the hair so that you're less prone to breakage as you brush and do the other mechanical things That we talked about so i have a couple brands here that do have lines that claim to repair the hair and in looking through the ingredients. You can see that. That is why it's because they have a lot of protein based ingredients in them, plus oils that are really going to help to soften and replenish the hair. So the first is not going to come as a surprise. Y'All pureology strength care. You guys know that this is one of my holy grail, shampoo and conditioner sets, but they also have a lot of other products in this strength. Cure range that i would highly recommend as well things that i don't have here right now that i used to use. I just forgot, as i test products it gets to be overwhelming. I have a lot of stuff to get through, so certain things i forget to repurchase until i'm sitting here, filming like it's time to repurchase, because they have amazing products in this strength, care range, their miracle filler leave-in treatment. Oh my gosh, so good. They have a split end cell. They have a hair mask, so i will link all of those below if you want another alternative that is a little bit more affordable, amica actually recently reformulated their cure, shampoo and conditioner. So now the update is that it does have proteins and they say that so weird proteins and really great plant-based oils in them to help to replenish and strengthen the hair. So i think this is an awesome set. They also have an in shower mask that you can use, adds insane shine. I love it. A post shower cream that is really nice and lightweight that you can add to the ends of your hair, so i would highly recommend that as well. Okay, so now, let's wrap this up by talking about things that we can do to prevent breakage from even happening in the first place and or minimize excessive amounts of future breakage. Obviously, some breakage is inevitable. That'S it's going to happen. That'S just the nature of having hair, so please don't feel like you need to freak out if you do have breakage, but if you feel you're prone to excessive breakage. These are the things that i would recommend. My first tip is to minimize any activity that is abrasive to the hair and going to cause that rubbing, whether it's against other hair strands or an object minimizing. This is going to help to protect the integrity of the hair strands. So if you're able to shampoo less, that is my first tip within this broader category of abrasive mechanical activities, basically shampoo less, if possible, this seriously has helped my hair so much shampooing every single day. Just over time, i feel really really damaged my hair, so i know that not everybody is going to feel the same about that and if you have a scalp condition that is worsened by you not shampooing daily, then please, by all means continue to shampoo daily. That'S not what i'm suggesting, but for those of you that are able to shampoo less frequently and not have any scalp issues. It'S been a game changer for me also related to washing the hair. Is towel drying, so minimize towel drying whenever possible, and especially towel drying. Number one with a cotton towel and number two with a cotton towel and rubbing it back and forth between the hair or any towel doing that. I have talked a lot about how much i love my microfiber towel. So much softer and gentler on the hair than cotton, but i'm never taking this and rubbing it back and forth. You better believe you're still going to experience breakage if you're doing that, no matter what type of material it is. So i always just take it and gently squeeze it through my hair to wring out the water. Another route that you could go down is to use a t-shirt. I know that a lot of people really like using t-shirts to dry their hair, but this is something that i found from conair, which is great because it's perfectly shaped to wrap your hair up in it. So i think they call it a t-shirt drying towel or something like that. You can wrap your hair up, go completely towelless and then this will just start to absorb that water. My next recommendation in this category is to make sure that you're not wearing your hair pulled back in really tight hairstyles, so a really slick, bun or ponytail. Any hairstyle like that can absolutely cause that breakage to happen so minimize that, whenever possible, wear the hair in loose hair styles like braids and twists, don't pull super tight and use softer gentler hair ties to secure the hair in place like a satin scrunchie. You guys know i love my satin scrunchies. Also same thing goes: for sleeping you don't want to sleep with your hair pulled back really tightly, but at the same time you don't want to sleep with your hair just fully down, because that rubbing of all of your hair against your pillowcases and sheets can cause Breakage too, so i would still recommend securing the hair but loosely and gently. So i always wear my hair in a loose brighter twist with a scrunchie like that. While i sleep too and then some other ways that you can make sure you're being gentler on the hair is to use a brush that has softer bristles in it. So you guys know that i love my wet brush pro. This has boar bristles mixed in that are much softer, unlike the original, which just has these plastic bristles. Those are so much more likely to cause my hair to break, and just it's not as gentle when i'm trying to detangle my hair at least i found personally so i love this. You could also go for a brush that just has all bore bristles, but i find that for my level of tangliness, those are just trickier to fully detangle the hair for me, but i know for some they work great and then, aside from the actual material of The bristles there's also evidence that shows that using something to brush through the hair that has bristles that are more widely spaced is less likely to cause breakage. So ideal scenario, for that is a comb. Aren'T these so cute by the way amazon find, of course - and i love that this one they came in a pack of two - this one has a handle on it. If you wanted to hang it in your shower and if you do have straight to wavy, hair and you're able to wait until your hair is fully dry to brush through it without having a major tangle issue, then definitely go for it, because that is a great Way to prevent breakage, so what you could do with a comb in the shower is once you have your conditioner in, or a hair mask just use this to lightly work through the hair, of course not combing through. If you have super tangly hair, because then that defeats the purpose of waiting until it's dry but doing that to prevent tangles and then waiting until your hair is dry to brush, it is a really great option. If you're able to do that, everyone's hair is different. I think that that's important to remember you have to do what works best for your hair and because my hair is so fine, but i have a lot of it and i bleach my hair, which makes people more susceptible to tangles. That was in my textbook. I was like i freaking knew it. I knew that's why my hair was so tangly, but didn't have proof of that until now. So right after i shampoo my hair, the rat's nest, my stylist told me i have some of the tangliest hair she's ever seen, but then somehow, once it's brushed through, it looks great. So i can't wait until my hair is dry to brush through it or it will be so unbearably tangly that my hair breaks, so if you're able to manage that go for it. If not, don't feel bad about that, because i can't do it either. It just doesn't work for me, but i do other things to help with breakage. That make me feel okay about it, and my very last tip is to make sure that your hair is well conditioned throughout the week. So using deep conditioning, hair masks using detangling sprays that have conditioning ingredients in them using leave-in conditioners using hair oils throughout the week. All those things that i've already talked about in previous hair care, videos and products that i've shared with you guys really really important. To think about, because that is what is going to keep your hair from tangling and make it manageable, which will prevent that breakage. So i will link some of those videos below where i share products like that and i'll make sure to link some of those products below as well. If you guys want some recommendations there, but in general keeping the hair conditioned, is one of the most important things to do to make sure that our hair is not breaking and those are all of my tips, so that is it for this video on hair breakage. I really hope that you guys enjoyed this and found it helpful. Let me know in the comments below did you learn something new and watching this video, because i definitely did when i was researching for this? Wendy Alexi: BEST HAIR TIP: SILK CAP to wear at night! Way better than the silk pillowcase even, my hair is so smooth when I wake up now. Everyone needs to know about this!

Lil Muffin: I’m glad you’re not one of those people who’s like “no heat, no bleaching” because for some of us, that’s not possible. I have hair that really wants to be curly but just can’t seem to cross that bridge so I have to straighten it at least 1 time a week. Anyway, thanks for the tips <3

Selah Diamond: 11:40 Is when she actually talks about preventing breakage.

Kat Nardizzi: I’ve learned so much from your videos, Abbey, thank you for all you share! Been super down about my hair breakage lately and going to make a much more strict effort to stop with heat styling for awhile, stop tying my hair back so tightly, and maybe even condition throughout the week (I only wash/condition once a week right now) to see it it helps. Heartless curl methods, here I come!

Teri Boudreaux: I'm loving that your channel is growing! I've been a long time sub and been watching you get the recognition you deserve. Love you girl!

Yandery Castillo: Abbey!! Thank you so much for this video. I’ve been on a repair healing journey for almost a year now. I can honestly say your recommendations saved my hair. Been using Olaplex and Pureology products and they work so well for my hair. Thank you! thank you!

Scarlett B: Every time I watch your haircare videos I feel validated because we do everything the same!! Literally down to products you love

Emma Azo: Hey Abbey I just found your channel yesterday; I’m totally binging and I’m so enjoying. I love that you’re so science and education based. Good for you girl. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with you. Keep working hard- it’s showing! I’m telling all my girlfriends about your channel! I live in a small town in Illinois with terribly hard water. I’m not sure you understand how supportive some of your videos have been so far.

iswhatitis yo: So basically to prevent breakage just ✨don’t move✨

Rebecca Garner: I've been neglecting my hair this past year and watching your videos has awakened my will power again to put in the effort! I've had so much improvement these last 2 months already.

Christine O'Leary: You totally need to bring out your own range of hair products. I would 100% purchase.

SoLa Lie: I've recently found your channel and I must say that I'm pleasantly suprised about how much research you put into your videos to back up what you're saying (if it's needed). Really commendable❤️

Kamile Skorupskaite: You have such amazing looking hair, I would have never guessed you’re struggling with tangles! I also have fine, super tangly hair but you now just gave me hope that it can be dealt with love you Abbey! ❤️

Lava Yuki: Your hair is so pretty now! I've been bleaching my hair for years and tried repair it with olaplex which worked quite well, but I decided to give up the bleach and just focusing on growing out, cutting and healing my hair. I love pureology and Redken for my hair

Julianne S.: Have you looked into the effects of dimethicone (or silicones in general) in haircare? Personally have very similar hair type to yours. I’ve eliminated almost all silicones from my hair care products, but I noticed many of the products you recommend do have silicones. Especially with finer hair, silicones can easily cause a lot of build up that weighs the hair down. Would love to see you look into this and potentially do a video!!

Dara: I’m so glad I found you! Very helpful videos for me as I recently started lightening my hair and needed breakage solutions and tips.

Anna Izbicka: Hi Abbey! Love your videos! I gotta say, for all ladies that started bleaching their hair - bleach somehow increases your hair porosity. Having said that, though I have straight hair I tried some conditioners and masks dedicated for curly hair and, DAMN! My hair never looked better. I think that’s because conditioners dedicated to curly hair have a lot of humectants and emollients. If you have bleached hair or damaged hair you need to make sure you have the balance of all. Proteins, emollients and humectants.

Ellen Francis: Hi! I love your videos and this one was really great! But you mentioned sitting in the sun and UV rays as being one source of breakage but you never circled back about it with a product that protects against that. I think it would be really helpful to research UV protection for hair that doesn’t weigh it down but really works!

Chelsea Hegel: Your videos are great. I'm on the mend of repairing my hair. I had thick, healthy hair about 3 years ago when I wasn't in the sun and ocean so much. Now I spend almost everyday of the summer months at the beach and on the boat. I took hair of my skin, but other then having my "its a 10" in my purse, I really neglected my hair. Since then, this winter I've made a lot of changes to try to repair my hair. I've gotten down to washing twice per week, purchased a satin pillow case, using olaplex 0,3,6,7, and the ordinary oils. Sorry for the long-winded comment. As summer approaches I will soon be in salt water often, so I will have to start washing more along with trying to hydrate my hair and hide it from the sun. Other than a hat and hair masks are there any products you would recommend. You are super knowledgeable, I've learned so much from you! Any tips are appreciated!

SLA: THANK YOU! Such a helpful and informative video! You are so charismatic and put in so much research for your videos! TIP if you want to prevent additional mechanical breakage, but your hair gets tangled really easily: apply oil or serum to your Jaír before you brush it out! This will make it easier for your hair to detangle, and plus, the product will get distributed throughout your hair as you brush it out!

Fiona Darragh: Hi Abbey, This video was really helpful! Right of the back, I never use a hairbrush when my hair is wet as this is when my hair is at its weakest and use a wide tooth comb.

Audrey M.: I just discovered you this week after your video on how to use Olaplex was recommended to me and I absolutely love you. the way you explain things is so helpful and I just wanna THANK YOU ~ from a wavy/curly-haired chemically highlighted blonde lol

Kim Nuzzolo: Love how educational your content is!! The shower humidity thing blew my mind

Kelsey P: That moment when your damaged hair still looks beautiful

clipinqueen: You really did your research! LOL. I love that you mention water as damage inflicting. A lot of people don't realize that. What I find confusing though, is how do we prevent the damage of washing while keeping the scalp clean? So many people nowadays use the dry shampoos and oils daily to avoid 'washing', but then that leads to buildup of product on the scalp that ends up clogging the follicles! It becomes overwhelming to form a hair strategy while thinking of all of this. LOL. Thanks again - your hair is beautiful!

Sodi Da: This video was very helpful! Also, I have started using tretinoin cream, but it makes my skin red and irritated. What moisturizer do you think will help with the irritation? I have combination skin. Also, is treinoin used before or after moisturizer? If it is used before moisturizer, how many minutes do I wait to apply moisturizer after applying tretinoin cream?

Theresa Shay: I am going through a TERRIBLE hair time right now! I'm not sure exactly what happened, but, my hair is breaking SO MUCH! I watch all of your videos, so, I bought the pureology strength cure line, I've not had it long enough to know if it's helping yet, and I kinda feel that my hair is past the point of no return right now, so I have to get it cut in 2 days. Then on April 2nd I'm going back for highlights and lowlights, should I also add in some olaplex once I do that? OR do you think that I might have to much damage to get it colored? I swear, bad hair can ruin your life!!!! I feel like I'm just obsessed to trying to heal my hair! I lay in bed at night for hours watching videos on how to fix this mess lol. Thank you for your SO helpful and informative videos! You have NO idea how much you have helped me!!!!

Brette Hannigan: Great video! Have you heard of k18 hair repair or tried it? Very pricey but I’ve noticed good results in a pretty dire hair situation I’m in. It’s a bit unpleasant to use because you’re supposed to skip conditioner and apply it to damp hair after shampooing but worth it for the results (for me at least).

Deandra Johnson: I am loving the Amika the Kure line. I tried the shampoo and conditioner and the multitasking repair treatment and my hair felt great. Definitely helping with damage since o just got my highlights redone.

Gabrielle Pitts: “Now that we’re all freaking out about hair damage, let’s talk about ways to avoid it.” UM, YES! My heart rate was up after hearing how I basically should stop using water or brushing LOL

Susan Voelz: Hi there! I am watching your video right now and would love your opinion. You mentioned this hair towel that is perfectly shaped to wrap your hair into. I personally used to wear my hair in a towel turban (definitely cotton towel, so I’m sure that’s part of the problem), but then experienced hair loss from the “pulling”. Have you heard of this/what’s your opinion on wearing your hair in a turban for drying?

Christine O: When I have newly bleached hair, I put warm coconut oil in my hair pre schampoo, and wash it out with cleansing conditioner, the first couple of washes. It brings my hair back to life

MeMak -: This video is so informative and broken down so clearly. I’m going to buy Olaplex and give them another go, I tried one of there conditioner and didn’t think it did anything but might have used it wrong

Haley: I just found your channel and I appreciate all the knowledge. I used to research a lot myself, but I just don’t have the time to do it anymore. Thank you!

None YA: I have been watching hair videos for a while and literally do everything to avoid hair breakage and hair fall. I even wear an uncomfortable hair bonnet almost 2yrs now because the pillow was the main culprit for my under hair breakage. It has helped with that but to my disappointment after my shower yesterday I found a bunch of broken hairs on top of my head sticking up!! They were ugly so I started trimming to remove the broken ends. Yes, not a good move but I have no idea what is breaking top hair now. I barely brush my hair..when I do it's lightly. Is it the rubbing when shampooing or the bonnet since I sleep on my back mostly. I don't style hair ever..no color...no heat..I do nothing and still. I tried Olaplex shampoo. I felt it dried out my hair or made it stiff and returned. I like the conditioner and no. 3. Maybe should have kept shampoo. Guess I have weak hair. Had to vent. Great video though!

Ainsley Jordan: I get insane breakage because I have fine hair. Seriously, so fine, it breaks so easily. I have been on a hair repair journey since 2020, when I found out that washing my hair every other day with Pantene shampoo wan t exactly healthy. Since then I have invested in an oil based conditioner and sulfate free shampoo and started washing once a week and saw great results. Even now that I joined swim team (I do a ton of chlorine prevention though) it is still looking better.

marta biancotto: You are the best for hair care !!!! Can’t wait for another video!! Thank you so much! I’ve noticed big improvements following your tips

Fireland Geek: I got my hair bleached and colored platinum blonde for the first time ever last october. I have the typical guy undercut with a quiff haircut. My stylist, Who is also my barber and friend said to me "ok now you have to start really looking after your hair", so I took some of her tips but also started looking for more tips on YouTube and I found your channel. I started my hair training journey to wash it less and now I'm up to 4 days without washing. My hair has never looked healthier and fuller despite the bleaching, which I kept doing, so I have to thank you for that :) Greetings from Argentina!

livhernandi: Any shower caps that you recommend? Or how do you keep your hair from getting wet in shower?

Aurélie Dufour: I have to tie my hair tightly (no braids or ponytails allowed) for my job because there's a bunch of machinery around that my hair could get stuck in and get ripped by. Has anyone got any tips on hairstyles I could do to minimize breakage? I used to wear high buns and now I'm stuck with tiny broken hairs that stick up on the top of my head.

Sandy Worley Rowe: Have you ever heard of or tried bondi boost for hair growth? I'd love to see a review of it and also your favorite kérastase products! I love kérastase magic 8H serum!!! I wonder if the other products in the nutritive line smell like it? Any idea??? I love your hair videos!!!

Alison Brooks: My hair stylists have always said the same thing- one said my hair was like spider webs to brush through. The only real perk I have found with having fine hair is that it processes bleach and dye easily. Lol

Joelee Ashley: Hello, what products would you recommend or suggest for thin, fine frizzy hair? I don't use a hair dryer, I let it dry naturally. I wash it once a week. Please let me know. Thanks

Sonja Forrester: I really worry about protein over use. I can't wait for your video. Do you know if certain hair is more susceptible to overdosing on protein. I think a year or so ago that might have been my issue. It's so hard to figure out. A d I have very fine hair so I can't find to much that moisturizes without weighing down. It's a bummer! And heat seems to damage my hair worse than others because of the thinness of it. Thanks age!

Chantal van Rossum: This is what I needed, thank you so much!❤️

Rosann Supino: Hi Abbey, I know this has nothing to do with your video about hair but I have a question. What Korean sunscreen do you recommend? I was using Purito before all the controversy and loved it. I have very dry skin and need something that is very moisturizing. Thanks!

k.a d: My breakage is due to my 1&2 year old boys that pull and literally rip out so much of my hair every day, and it leaves my hair with little bits that regrow at the top :(

Nichole Smallwood: can’t wait to see your video about protein overload. I’ve been having such a hard time finding hair products without proteins in them. Proteins are in almost all hair products it seems like

selina kyle: omg i thought i was the only one-i also experienced severe protein overload trying out rice water and no one was talking about this, everyone just had amazing results. tbh, i had a lot of growth, but my ends were soo rough and straw-like so i had to cut it anyway. now i'm still terrified of using a protein mask 1-2x a month

Angela Melum: Great video. It’s so frustrating to try to figure out if I need more moisture or protein. I have VERY thin fine hair. Using the “thin hair” shampoos is making things worse.

Marjolein Wolvers: Wearing a bonnet at night works wonders as well! I love to see your video on proteïne overload :)

Tabatha Perr: Hey! If I use heat protectant on my hair does it work like “sunscreen” for hair?

Victoria Fackrell: Abbey! I love your videos, I always learn something new and your tips have been helping me repair and grow my hair! I use the Don’t Despair Repair hair mask and oil from Brigeo, is it really repairing my hair or just softening it?

Ace: Im a guy and my hair gets just down to my shoulders, and breakage is super annoying when youre trying to grow it out. My entire hairline is under 4 inches long, while everything else is about a foot long. Im really hoping this helps my hair so thanks in advance

Venus: I've never died my hair. Don't use any heat styling or other treatments. Legit washed conditioned (with the same products) & brushed it for 15 years, with no changes to my hair condition. Then suddenly I started shedding a ton of hair. My hair went from full long & thick..to thin, extreme shedding, & breaking. In one year I lost half my ponytail diameter. I still can't figure out why. I changed nothing. Maybe that was the problem? Still breaks my heart thinking about it. Thank you for this video❤️

Michelle Rau: Hey Abbey. I love your videos. Ive learnt so much from you! I wanted to ask what you think of hats and hair breakage? My hairdresser recently asked me if i wear a lot of necklaces cause that can cause hair breakage as the rubbing of the necklace on your neck will break your hair off. ( I dont wear necklaces but i do wear hats with my hair up ib a ponytail so I am thinking this is the cause of my hair breakage. Id love to hear your thoughts on this,

Katie Bleifus: so I have recently experienced breakage and have been using olalpex 4 and 5. I feel like it made my hair super soft at first and like It was working. and then last Friday on washday I lost so my hair after using it and my scalp was so itchy. do you think this could be a result of protein overload?

Julie Colleran: I cannot go a week without washing my hair but what I do is put my hair in a ponytail and just wash the top part of my scalp where I tend to get oily since the rest of my hair can go longer without washing. (I then condition just the ends) It has made a huge difference!

Stephanie Gosman: This is the most useful hair info, ever

Chanti Entee: Perfect timing! Just bleached my hair for the first time. I‘m searching a protein hair mask, any recommendations?

lucciana lewis: I agree with you about hair must be well conditioned. My hair improves better since I started to use deep conditioner hair mask , oils until natural treatment like aloe vera together with eating healthy , drinking too much water and taking hair supplements.

Evelyn Moran: The is the hair care channel I’ve been looking for ❤️

Chelsea Zayda Raen Sehon: I’m 10 minutes in the video and I’m curious about the protein in hair products. I heard over using it can be bad for hair. Doing the opposite of what we want. How do we know how much protein we need?

Amanda Dunbar: ive been really trying to shampoo less. you mentioned uv damage how do we prevent that? wearing a hat or avoiding being outside? thank you abbey for another informative video

Caroline V.F: WOW- this girl is very well informed- impressed long time hair researcher here- good work

Linda Maisonneuve: Thanks for the info I’ve been struggling for years

Nat Mya: Hey Can I ask you what you coloured your hair with in your insert pics when you were younger? Like was it something different to bleach? I really like the golden shade, looks super natural and healthy. Whilst the whiter colour suits you as you are younger I feel I would do better with that kind of colour. Thanks.

Alyssa Mercer: Do you have any thoughts on the Revolution haircare plex line? I basically gave myself a quarantine chemical cut from one too many bleach treatments and I used Olaplex 0 + 3 and I saw no difference and my hair is so porose I could only get two uses out of them and it's way too expensive for me right now. I ordered the revolution Plex line from Beauty Bay, I haven't received it yet but I'm thinking I played myself...

Katie Alyssa: You make my day with your videos!!!

Marwa Osman: 6:36 if I'm in hurry and can't get my hair wet i soften it with some cream or oil and brush it this is my aunt tip and it's so useful

bn ok: Thank you for all your tips and reviews. Hair products is not one size fits all. Just have to find the right product. I have thick and wavy hair. I cant get it to grow longer. It's probably due to breakage. On a mission to find what will work for my hair.

Serena GeBauer: Are tangle teezers bad for your hair...especially with wet hair?? That's typically what I use but I still have a lot of breakage and was wondering if that could be a reason. Thank you!

Dani Orefice: How do I know if my breakage is from a protein build-up? How do I prevent a protein build-up while using protein-based products in my hair? If my hair is due to protein build-up, what products do I use?

Ervin's Movie Corner: Great job, Abbey!❤️

Tasha Perreault: I’m so frustrated I’ve literally tried everything my hair still has breakage it sucks

B. H.: This was such a good video, thank u!

Rebecca Tate: Love your hair care vids!!

Sofia vgyrre: Let's talk nutrition as well. I spent thousands at this point on hair care products... olaplex, pureology, redken, rice water, flax seed gel, turning up side down and massaging scalp..I mean I was going to go to holy water next lol.. none will work without a good diet as well. That's what really saved my hair

O Kavaya Savage: do you think keeping hair in plaits as much as poss would benefit the hair? Like i have to brush my hair as it is so coarse and horse like. I have implemented everything you recommend haha my hair hates me!

Knutt Laarsen: Can't know how I stopmed onto this. All in all GREAT content ❤️. I also watched those similar from mStarTutorials and kinda wonder how you guys create these stuff. MStar Tutorials also had cool info about similiar things on his channel.

Jessica B: will you do a video targeting the hairs on the nape of the neck?? Thanks! You are the best ❤

Gill Fisher: Love your video really helpful but products you've featured are so expensive olaplex no 3 is very expensive for such a small bottle then to add the shampoo & conditioner sets it just becomes insanely pricey. Is there any more reasonably priced products

Dana Bikowski: I got on the repair my hair journey in 2016. I use to weave my hair blonde and of course I have to blow dry because I have naturally curly wavy frizzy hair of course when you have curly hair you want it straight sooo what I had to do was stop coloring my hair cut it super short in 2016 now it’s a lot healthier but still frizzy if I don’t blow dry

Milagros Vargas: How do you style your hair throughout the week ? Also, how do you style it to go to sleep?

Bianca Goetsch: So I work in medical and need to wear my hair up. Is there anything extra I should do to prevent breakage or just implement your suggestions?

Scarlett Xu: omg I never thought that sleeping with hair down would damage hair looool so that's why every morning my hair falls off like crazy

Ella Peterson: can you do a video on chlorine hair care!? i’m a swim instructor so i’m in a pool everyday (that has way more chlorine than a normal pool lol)

Cakes&weights: Also any recommendations on fine thin hair 2b for moisture products or shampoo/ conditioner

Ganten: I can give the advice to not buy combs from a no brand. I only use comb from Hercules. Cheaper combs are often made in machines and they can have sharp edges inside the comb teeth that will damage and rip the hair. So invest in a good quality comb! :)

Ebizzill: i feel like there's more to this. I'm natural, i have very kinky woolly hair. I've NEVER straightened, colored, bleached, pulled.. i try my best to keep it up and im one of those boring naturals... meaning it dont go through the most, yet my hair breaks and it's at this length plateaued.

Claire Govender: Love your videos. Any suggestions if pureology colour fanatic makes my hair feel oily after spraying on freshly washed hair.

Sarah ilana: can you do a video explaining your thoughts on ingredients and why you dont care about parabens, SLS, Sulphates, silicones, etc , esp silicone since silicone masks the hair and is wax and doesnt actually penatrate and nourish the hair etc, THX <3

karen furtado: I like how your hair looks NOW⚘⚘⚘ love the layers and colors!! Just subscribed

K A: By the way , I love your videos.... you are absolutely amazing.

Irene Martinez: I watched one olaplex review and I’m hooked on u! Thank you so much for your content even though I should’ve discovered you way before

Marc Daguio: Hi! Just curious with all your research, have you come across the Monat brand products and looked into it?

spinfan1: What about when you are blow drying our hair? You need to use a brush on wet hair?

Lauren Mulqueen: Sadly I’ve been doing all these things and I feel like it isn’t helping. My front pieces of my hair are still so thin and easily break

Megan Spark: Could you please review mane n tail shampoo and conditioner. It’s so affordable and has been known to grow hair but I don’t know if it’s worth trying x

JLeigh: Randomly picking out videos to watch while you're not feeling well - I'm going to do a little binge, as I haven't seen many of your older videos.
