Chemical Curl Reformation Featuring Alicia Bailey

Chemical Curl Reformation also known as a permanent wave is a great way to create easily maintained uniform curls and waves. Learn the most modern way to create natural looking waves and curls that many clients try to purchase with hair extensions.

Hello and welcome my name is Alicia Bailey. I am the global corporate trainer from McBride Research Laboratories and today we are going to talk about the wave by design, which is a bio-based curl reformation system. Clients choose the way by design system because they either want to change their curl pattern or even have more manageability with their hair, and this will allow them to either get a spiral set. A looser curl pattern with bigger rollers or rods and just give them more options with their hair. Remember to always do a thorough consultation which includes checking the chemical history, the lifestyle, the hair and scalp condition the clients, commitment, they're at home, maintenance and, of course, ensuring that they come back for timely services after the consultation. The first step would be to cleanse the hair lightly using the O protein and henna fuller, thicker, stronger, deep cleansing shampoo. Now, I'm going to show you the process, because here, if he's already received the system before I'm going to go in with my protection, which is my restore and my calm, I restore vitamin treatment can be used in this instance. As a pre chemical treatment, we will apply this to her ends or the hair that has been previously treated with the chemical to avoid overlapping for any type of damage that could happen to the hair. We went to process it all the way to the ends and the way we do that I'll drop down quadrant by quadrant and I will apply the restore by pouring into my hands about a quarter size per quadrant should work for you emulsify in place on the Previously treated ends, you also can use a wide tooth comb to distribute it evenly. Your fingers are your comb or your wide tooth comb starting from the ends, and this will help in detangling the hair as well. When we start our process for putting the rearranger onto the hair, now that I have completed putting the restore on her hair, I'm going to place my calm through this guide protection around the hairline, ensuring I covered that hairline well and behind her ears to protect from The rearranger things I'm going to do is apply the rearranger, as stated before. She'S already received the process. So now I want to make sure that I only do the new growth area. The great about this system is that it doesn't really take a long time at all. The processing never has to go under the dryer at all and you're going to process only for 10 minutes, another 10 minutes and then five minutes for neutralizer and we're done easy. As that using my instrument, I'm going to part out what our inch sections begin to apply my rearranger. I love this because I can control the product that I'm placing on the hair and remember, I said she's getting a retouch. I only want to place it on the hair. It has the new growth, as I complete applying the rearranger. I will then place a plastic cap onto her head to allow her to process for 10 minutes, be sure to set the timer for 10 minutes to ensure that you do not over process the hair be sure to let her process at room temperature as she does Not need to go under a dryer after we have allowed the rearranger to process on the hair for 10 minutes, we're going to remove the plastic cap and go through and just make sure that we've gotten the proper relaxation in the hair. So I'll use the tip of my instrument to school, ensuring that I've reached proper relaxation and then I'm going to take her to the shampoo bowl to rinse the rearranger out of her hair. Now, if she has not processed to the desired degree of relaxation, I can allow the product to stay on her hair checking every five minutes, but not to exceed 20 minutes total processing time we've got great relaxation here. We really just want to get some manageability I'll check this first quadrant here, because this is the last one that I applied the rearranger to, and there is great relaxation here so I'm now ready to rinse the rearranger from her hair after the rearranger was rinsed from Her hair completely, i followed with the shampoo using our design, essentials, honey, cream, moisture retention, super detangling conditioning shampoo. You only want to shampoo lightly once and that's just to remove any of the residue that you may have left in there, and it's also going to impart moisture into her hair. We'Re going to apply the way by design, moisture, wrap to actually wrap her hair onto the rollers to form the curls that we desire when rolling her hair. I'Ve decided to use this type of roller, because this gives her an more natural look also at the time. Our clients are looking for a natural look to the current pattern, as opposed to the traditional curls or curvy formations, or even perms that they received back in like the 80s. Now this one is going to ensure that she has a very light wave pattern and it's put in using the fuller and a pin. I will also use my end papers just in case. There are any straight ends that I need to capture onto the roller. So I'm going to use my if I design, moisture, wrap and with this moisture wrap. This does still have plenty of Thyle glockl aid in it, but we want to make sure that we only apply this product as we go along to each roller. So I will start here: I'm going to place the moisture wrap onto each individual section as I roll the hair place. My end paper on both the front and the back just ensure that I've captured all of the hair within the roller. Now we'll continue this process until I complete the entire set now I've completed rolling her hair after her hair has processed for ten minutes, I'm going to go in and check to make sure that I have the desired s pattern for her curls I'll. Do this by removing a roller in different places on her hair, so I'm going to check here see if I have the proper purl pattern, I'm looking for and I'll check over here as well and there's my s that I'm looking for and now I would need To take her to the shampoo bowl to rinse her hair thoroughly, you want to make sure that all of the moisture wrap is completely removed from her hair, and then I will proceed to neutralize now that we have rinsed all of the moisture wrap out of her Hair thoroughly we'll now neutralize. This is our wave, lock, neutralizer, and I will use this to neutralize her hair and set the curls. This only has to remain in the hair for 5 minutes after applied. I'Ve already put some of the neutralizer in a applicator bowl because I'm going to use this sponge here so applicator sponge to neutralize each curl. I'M going to apply cotton around her hairline to prevent any dripping on her skin or on her face and then we'll ensure that I cover each roller with my neutralizer. I love this because I'm able to squeeze neutralizer onto the hair via the sponge. This also helps me not to waste wave lock by spraying it onto the hair with a spray bottle, but you can do that if you so choose so now that I have completely applied the wave log to her hair, I'm going to put the plastic cap onto Her hair never sit at room temperature for five minutes. No dryer is needed now that the neutralizer has processed in her hair. For five minutes. We will remove the cap and take her back to the shampoo bowl to rinsed her rollers completely. Then I will remove the rollers rinse the hair lightly once again and then finally, I will apply our milk and honey six and one reconstructive conditioner and allow it to remain on the hair for ten minutes at this time when she has her conditioner on the hair. You can choose to shape the hair as it's very pliable at that time. Now that I have completed the way by design process, I'm going to finish her style by using our two finishing products with our way by design system. The first one is our defining shine. Two and one lotion I'm going to apply this by pouring approximately a quarter size in hand. I will emulsify it and then I will apply it to her hair, starting from the ends working my way up to the root area and I'm going to really use this. In sections, because I'm going to make sure that it's distributed evenly, I can scrunch her curls, ensuring that it's activating all of those beautiful curls that we've just created I'll, take another quarter, size and move the next section. So I'll show you here, I've already applied it here, Mull safai, starting at the ends, work my way up use my fingers as my comb scrunch. It with my hand to ensure great saturation and then I'll move on to the next section same thing, I'll complete. That start on the ends work my way up, and this is one of the products that you're going to want to send them home with as a retail item, because they're going to want to maintain their hair when they're, not with you. My finish: I'm going to go in with my mist and shine dry, finishing spray. Mr. shine dry, finishing spray is going to seal the deal lightly mist and now we have completed our way by design system.

Shanna Jarea: Her hair came out cute! I read the comments thinking it came out a mess. #teamnaturaltho

EmrldTeddy007: This is the Old School "Curly Kit" from the '80's! I had one, everybody had one back in the day!. Some elderly people never let go and BEEN rocking it ever since! This doesn't look as neat as the beauticians back then used to do it. (A fresh curl is supposed to looks as if all of your hair is of 3A,3B texture. The curl pattern would vary, depending on your choice of perm rod size. EVERYBODY'S hair grew like crazy because, as my beautician put it, "You hair is in a constant state of condition."!(Glycerine based Curl activators and sprays- which were used almost daily- kept hair moist and very well maintained). The only time heat was used was when you needed a new Jheri Curl-during the retouch process, about every 3-6 months. *As always:. The fact that this style required No heat, low manipulation and moisturizing was the key to the heath and superior hair growth that just about ALL were able to achieve and experience!. Hair trends always seem to return!

ChosenQueen: She's beautiful. I know braids, twist outs, buying quality wigs, silk presses that don't last, etc. are time consuming and costly so this is DEFINITELY a great option. For those who might be natural, but are not happy with their curl pattern this is perfect for you. It's like back in the day the BC community clowned you if you DIDN'T get chemicals NOW the natural hair movement hits and if you chemically process your hair you're still in jail. FREEDOM OF CHOICE is the way to go.

LolaG100: it's pretty. a lot of us didn't have long hair until someone put a curly in it and you had to maintain it by moisturizing it everyday. the problem started when you got a relaxer and stopped moisturizing and putting heat on your hair is when it started breaking and falling out.

hannah baking: 10:58 Sorry but we have to admit that the result is absolutely stunning

adi: these companies are trying real hard to get people to go back to chemicals. They realize lots of people go natural expecting curls and get insecure when they see kinks, they feed off of that and found a way to change curl pattern. So not only do you still pay for the chemical prices but you also pay for their natural hair products.

Kaybella Jay: I think her hair looks beautiful. I think people have taken the natural hair movement to the extreme. Some people stop relaxing there hair for different reasons like I stoped relaxing mind because I'm getting older and sometimes your hair tends to shed when or before going through menopause so that was my reasoning.I know what my natural hair look like it's curly it's not Kinky-Curly it's just soft and curly . So I wanted to preserve my hair. I would never tell anyone not to relax their hair, or carefree curls, or apply wave nouveau. I've seen so many chicks with natural damaged hair, a serious big chop was necessary. So chicks need to back off what other people decide to do with their hair not your hair and surely not your dam business what the next person decides to do with their hair. If you choose to put a relaxer in your hair and it makes you happy that's all that matters. Frankly I'm sick of the Damned fake-ass false eye lashes why don't people wear their own natural eyelashes. Chicks walking around looking like snuffaluffagus from sesame Street / Muppets. Big eyelashes looking like an ostrich Lol.

stephshe100: I finally had this done yesterday and I'm really happy. I found someone who has been doing them for 30 years and who knows what they're doing. I had been natural for almost 5 years and my hair is past my bra strap. I've also had long relaxed hair in my lifetime and a carefree curl 10 years ago so if it doesn't work out I can always start again :)

coco chanel: Her hair actually came out nice. Its not like the old school juice dripping curl. Many ppl still telax too,so why did ppl click the video just to complain.Let the ppl who do like it or are curious watch in peace.

Audry Morford: Omg this is absolutely stunning. I've always loved design essential in school but now that I work at Ulta I don't get to use it much but will be performing a curl reformation on a client in December. Will definitely be purchasing these products for her service! Amazing work

MiaNaomi Post: I couldn’t help but admire the stylist’s hair! I love the cut and color especially!

CecileC: Im so glad you ladies are seeing through this! Our hair is just fine as it is!!

Marcials Blends Hair: I absolutely loved this video. I am happy that there is diversity in hair care. Variety is beautiful. Keep up the great work!!!!!!! #educational

Gabe Gabe: oh geez just stop it guys, its just hair. if someone wants to mess around with their appearance its their choice. if you don't like the hair. cut it, it will GROW BACK. its never this serious about hair. its literally an extension of you. and lets not forget in corporate America, or Corporate anywhere, black women still relax their hair so they can actually survive and take care of their own. if it wasn't for my mother relaxing her hair and getting the job she needed to provide for me, I wouldn't be the person I am today. So I'm neither against relaxers or "natural" if its your hair, do what ever you want, nobody should be shamed into not doing something. think about it the other way around, young black women have recently become aware of their natural hair and are proud of it which is a beautiful thing. but we use chemicals with literally everything, so someone using a relaxer for their hair shouldn't be a big deal. if you're proud of your 3c,4a,4b,4c hair, then be proud. but don't shame people into not doing something they don't want to do. just because we're black doesn't mean culturally we have the same standards for how we take care of ourselves. if someone chooses to relax their hair for the rest of their life, that is purely THEIR CHOICE..... plus I see black women in their 40's and 50's that have hair draping down their back from years of relaxing. so what ever you choose to do, it is your choice, and non of your business what anyone else chooses to do with theirs.

Bernice Garvin: I can not lie..nor deny my hair was at its healthest with a jheri curl full and long.So stop the madness wit these negative comments! #ahNaturalSista

T Library: Thank you Design Essentials. I appreciate the video. I like the fact that you showed how to avoid applying to previously treated hair. I think that might be the problems with other curly perm applications that may not protect the previously processed hair and just eyeball to apply on "new growth only" but end up not protecting hair that has already been curled which then people wonder why it looked great the first time, but now looks disastrous because the hair is falling off and they may not realize why?

Shantelle Brooks: This looks like the process for getting a jerry curl or wave nouveau back in the day I had a flashback

Daixha D.: I actually wouldn’t mind this only for the purpose of time . I love my natural hair coils and I also love trying out different things. I can always cut it off and restart

Mrs. Bapi: Am I the only one that liked the end result?

india: To each their own some have success with chemical processing. Her hair looks beautiful. I am not processed but my hair is chemical sensitive and thin but that hair style looks good on her.

Vonda04: Her wave pattern came out better to me this time to me love it

Lorraine Gaspar: Very nice and explained the procedure great. Beautiful stylist and gorgeous model

Mich D: I'm definitely loving this, especially no dryer. I spent a good bit of money taking care of my natural hair. I transitioned 4 years ago. It's a Lotta work. We'll see how this texturing goes - eyes wide open. Hair is deeply personal. No one needs to shame people for however they choose to care for their hair.

Tamika Thomas: she's super thorough. I love that!

T Library: In the future, if possible, could you also show on a completely virgin 4c hair to see if there is a difference in the curl outcome. Thanks!

Ronnie Natasha Renee: I love my natural kinky coily hair. You can save that stuff for somebody else! But that oat protein and henna shampoo peeked my curiosity. I'm gonna check it out.

Mon Mac: The model is lovely...In this vid I really liked... the subtle PURPLE hues in the stylist hair.

Strong Bundles: this is AWESOME! THIS IS BASICALLY A CURL!

Kathy Brown: I was honestly trying not to make a comment, but after reading some of the rude and very insensitive comments, I really needed to. We all sit here and judge for so many things in this world and there is truly no need for that. As we all have our own opinions in life, that is absolutely fine. Everyone is not born with the same texture of hair and the growth pattern is strictly different. She is not telling anyone to use these products. This video is strictly for those who would like to try something different, whether it's a perm, a relaxer, a jheri curl, purchasing weave or whatever. We all think that our hair is the best thing since slice bread, but of course some of us walk around looking very nappy and think that its cute...NOT!! That is my opinion. As we all age or go through hormonal changes in life, your body changes, you may lose edges, or go completely bald, so don't be so quick to judge what others do for themselves to make them feel better. We all thought that we would be a size 5 forever, well try having babies or more than 10 surgeries before age 40 and battle with thyroid issues, cancer or anything else and see what reformation or transformation you are willing to try. God made us all different for a reason, but did not make us selfish, nasty, mean or rude. I was always taught that if you don't have anything pleasant or nice to say, just say nothing at all. I know that they will be negative comments, so I will say God Bless you in advance and I am praying for you to find strength with positive and encouraging words to help someone. Ms. Alicia, thank you for such beautiful work. God bless you and your viewers

J L: Looks like a Jeri curl to me, 1 step away from dripping!

Jujubeanz33: My beautiful curly&coily haired ladies, DO NOT FALL FOR THIS!! Ladies love yourself, love your hair! God gave it to you for a reason, it’s always gonna grow that way because your hair is always gonna be apart of YOU. Don’t fall for this again. We came too far to turn back now!

Living With Ericka: It looks nice. And I'm totally for her if this is what she wants. Us 4C girls need to chill and understand, everybody doesnt want your struggles. I got a video of me combing out my hair and goodness, I've had it! But I'm not gonna do anything different to my hair. No chemicals for me. Been there, done that. But this model is gorgeous and I wish my twist outs would hold longer than 30 minutes!! we need to be more supportive or just stfu. It's HER hair. And I'd do it too if I weren't so worried about it taking my hair out.

pile_of_diamonds: can we see this process on someone that has never had this done before, instead of a touch up?

NailzbyVikkie: I loved this video very detailed and understanding. I don’t have any chemicals in my hair however I want to do the curl reformation. Is it a different process for me if I never did it before

EthioEritrea: I love my God given natural hair. I came to this channel hot to get curly hair without using chemical. 3 years since I stopped using chemical.

Laticia Lawton: JUST LET YOUR SOUL GLOW!!!!!!

kajja27: Not gone lye her hair looks good!!! My mother had a geri curl in the early 80's and it was soooo long like down her back .all the lubricating geri curl activator makes your hair grow!! I actually think this is better than a relaxer but at the same time you have to have a stylist who knows what she doing or else your hair will fall out

Lorene Shields: It's actually obvious the majority of these comments are coming from non-cosmetology educated individuals. This is called Curl REFORMATION ❤ And the rests are BEAUTIFUL

Princess shantel: I use design essentials products and I love them. Yesssss!!!!

Calli Williams: I’m really tired of some of y’all #teamnatural ppl sitting here judging somebody for getting a chemical treatment. Leave her alone! Some of us don’t have the time or the money to be taking care of our natural hair and this is the better option. If you don’t like the video then go watch something else. It isn’t that deep to be judging someone else’s choices...

Jo Sach: The moisture wrap is a perm solution. Neutralizer stop the chemical from altering and further damaging the hair while locking the curl pattern, vinegar would do the same thing too. In other words 2 perms process in one day. That's stronger than a relaxer. She did not say the chemical base of the products. Most Afro American perms have 3 steps. A texturizer is the mildest one for example Maintamer hair straightener for all kind of textures. Knowing the base of any perm is key.

Nicole Reid: I loveee it!!! Thinking abt texturizing my hair I DONT need curls. I just want to try get a comb thru my hair n get a bun without standing infront the mirror for 2 hours.

Jyst Carter: This looks nice and natural. Like a permanent braid or twist out.

Stephanie Taylor: That was really awesome,,, it was pretty

WeR1channel: The end results

Jasmine C.: This aint nothing but a ultra perm

Monique Smith: Ok so I realize that it took me a long time to get my hair natural, but after 3 babies and chemo ! Lemme tell ya I have some straight outta the jungle nappy hair. My 4C is the tightest! I get a headache tryna comb it!!! so want more manageable curls. I'm considering this. I love my curls but the daily work is outs this world. I end up in wigs or sewing! Not my natural hair anyway. I think I'd love to be able to get pu spray shake and go!

Kimberley Knights: It came out cute. I'm going to try this

Krissy B: I remember this burning my scalp back in the day. lawd that burn. no matter what brand I tried with all the protective products I still burned

Sheila Wilkins: This product reminds me of the Elasta Curl. My hair grew and was very strong . No heat was needed with this curly perm. Where can I get this product? I’ve been searching for something like this. I can’t find Wave by design reviews . I live in Texas.

LilMizzLae: Chemical curl reformation AKA Curly Perm

Shauna Kay: I used to dilute my relaxer loosen my curl and I got the same results, way fewer steps, and products. this is marketing at its best. #girlbye

Tiffany Danielle: As I was watching this I started singing "Just let your Soul Glo Just let is shine through!"

Jeanette Beamon: I love the end result of her hair beautiful

Takeia Starks: Looks more like a Wave Nouveau from back in the day than a Jheri curl...because of all the steps to accomplish this look

It's All About Mimi: Is this like the 2016 version of a Jheri curl???

Mini Golf and other Games: Bringing back the S Curl. It looks nice, but it's still a chemical perm

Robin Ayers: Her hair looked okay, but you should have used Annie's Perm Rods. When I had my Wave By Design Dry Curl, the stylist always used perm rods. The hairstyle looks so much better.

Sandy Ware: I love it!!! Her hair is so cute!!!!

Cajun Diamond: That's too much work for a fake curl pattern.

Debra Walker: Beautiful, love it..

CLWXRF: I rocked the curl from 6th grade unto 11th grade. A curl is a curl is a curl. When neutralizing my curl my hair dresser would lay me back in the sink and pour it on my hair, saved a lot of time.

Em Lewis: lol this is diet relaxer

Suga Lee: she put on GLOVES to apply this stuff to her head ... can't be that much different lol

Bambi Virgo: its cute... I'm happy with my natural texture though... if it wasn't a permanent change more people would be open to it....

Jas G.: Wow, wayyyyyy too much work! She probably was there for 2 days getting this done.

Yemicia-Yayah: How long do I have to wait to put this chemical in if I’m relaxed ?

Kyara Taylor: Can you wet the hair after without washing it or will it effect the curl

Macy Camille: This is what my hair looked like when it was heat damaged ‍♀️

Ebonee G.: To save everyone time, the Jheri Curl is back sis

HERU13: And by the way I do like this transformation, Different Strokes for different folks

SAFI: Style.Art.Fashion.Imagination: that's a lot of work! I have respect for hair dressers. xoxo

Alexandra Lopez: Can I use this on texturized hair?

TheKingzKid: so what do you do if the hair is still slightly straight after doing this whole process? Im asking for a friend

Tammy McDaniels: By Choice I am natural. But by the comments I'm ashamed of the natural hair community. We still need to be supportive of each other no matter what. We always divide within our own culture. You guys should be ashamed you stand for natural hair but yet put others down within your own culture..please stop we have enough obstacles against us, and enough hurdles without creating more foolishness within

HERU13: A relaxer and a curl Reformation are both perms. Perm is short for permanent , permanent straight or permanent curl. The base in a curly perm is ammonium thioglycolate, the base in relaxer is sodium hydroxide. Both of these chemicals are present in Nair this is why you cannot go from one to the other.

Marie Mays: Would this work on pre relaxed hair to make it curly?

Nocka Mama: Cool concept and it came out cute.

Elita Ali: Omg!!! This is the Jheri Curl from the 80's!!! I guess it never left!

Nadgee Amazan: When perm was popular I had a curly perm... my mom applied it and it wasn’t that hard she showed like 100 steps

Nelcia Nurse: Hi , I had my dry curl done approximately one week before travelling to Canada for Christmas and my hair started falling out ,when I came back l wash it and steamed it with oils . What else could I use to strengthen my dry curl hair?

Bertha Tryals: hello jerry curl! it's been a while but I see that you made it back ..same concept different name..

EVOLMAI: When Stylist Mentioned Thyo... Aka Jheri Curl , Cold Wave.. I was ahead of my time... Done this years ago with same rollers... Would love to see the day after Style Days...

Lima L: Hi I’m really interested in this product quick question though when you come back to get a touch up do you apply the chemical to all of our hair are just in our new growth

It's Yours Truly: Everyone should be allowed to choose what to do what they want to do with their hair and not be judged, teased, bullied or joked about. ❤️

Raena J: This a darn jerry curl!! Let that soul glow!!!

Donna Thomas: good job looks great I love it and thanks for sharing this video it help me s lot thanks again

Naomie Armand: I don't understand. We have the most UNIQUE AMAZING hair that works as an umbrella on the face from the sun. My fro is a literal sun umbrella. No one else can say that.

naturalnicole: This is a lot of work just for a curly look. Reminds me of a jerri curl just a fancier name! You can get this look by doing a braid out or twist out.

Eboogie Peaceful: Design Essentials tried it... we are NOT going back to Jheri curls and we are NOT going back to chemicals

Yolanda Cooks: Yep, looks like my curl from back in the day ‍♀️

Chasity Webb: Nice work.... what is the name of the sponge used ? I would like to find one for my clients..... thx

Maya: Gorgeous!

iLoveLeatherNYC: (10) Ten products were used to achieve this style? Sis you can't be serious... Oat Protein Restore Calm Professional Creme Honey Creme Moisture Wrap Wave Lock Milk and Honey Define and Shine Mist and Shine

Miss Hazel: I love it. I wish I knew about this before I loc my hair

Deborah Foster: Great job and your voice is so soothing. You speak very well.

Gaye Sturgis: Very Professional ❤️

temituoyo: Is there any salons someone would recommend in New York City that does this really well? Especially for thick 4c hair?

Sheila Speed: I love this! Where can I get this?

Alicia Powell: im glad i read this because I'm feeling real insecure about my natural hair, sure was thinking about this, this is true,
