Hi everyone by popular demand - and by that I mean I just wanted to do this with George and we're gon na - do a hair tutorial, but George northward, obviously a very famous hairstylist. At this point and I met George um, I was 19 yeah. We were 25 advanced age anyway. I'Ve not really let anyone do my hair ever since, because I spent my entire childhood in Hampshire, getting quite dodgy haircuts and then, when I met George, I was like. Oh, you don't have to cry every time you leave the salon. So that was a revelation, but today we're gon na do a classic hairstyle, or at least classic to me of messy undone, not not much effort, but secretly it takes about 30 minutes waves right. Yes, I think this is good, because a lot of people want texture in their hair. They want the wavy kind of feminine look yeah. What was really popular about what you did is when you had the bobbum. We were tonguing. It is that it created a real sort of moment, because I think people were really ready for a bit of texture in their hair was a it wasn't ready. People just want to be able change, it's just great, because it gives you femininity, so you can wear it as a bob. Whatever you do and it just it just gives it something going on cuz you it was about. It was about straight hair for so long when I was growing up, you needed bolt straight hair and that's why ghd's and like straightening irons came into effect, didn't ya and it was like Giselle's long flowing locks that were completely ironed flat. Yes, well, the Rachel cut the Rachel carve and slightly curved in yeah yeah. I should have a concern. Do you think that means that coming in hot, because capri pants are back cycling, shorts, mules, etc, etc? All the hallmarks at the late 90s early 2000s? Does that mean we're about to get a wave of very flat hair, I think straighter, but more natural? No, I don't think we're gon na go back to really straight hair. I think it's gon na be about a straighter texture and I'm gon na talk today about how we can create that, so it doesn't have to be really wavy. Okay, okay, I have waves, please let's do it so we're gon na start on this side here we're gon na take an inch in height sort of section and we're gon na don't reveal my massive is George but lovely yes, too late. They already know. Yeah. We'Ve got the tongue heat it up already, so we're gon na we're gon na tongue, our first section now always tongue, I think away from the face. This is the key okay, so we're gon na Tong and we're gon na put the tongue on top of the hair and we're gon na Tong away from the face yes backwards. That'S a good way. To put it actually so we're gon na go like this. You know that flappy bit on the Tong, do you need to lift it up and put it down or not? You don't have to what you could do is you can buy a lot of tongs that don't even have that they're more of a wand yeah. So you could just do this, so people find that easier because there's less to sort of do. I just bought a Tong from you. You know salad good for the first time for the first time and I've been doing it on my own ha. So do you want some key points? Yes, leave the root and the end out really yeah. Why? Because that's what gives you more of the wave the party curls are cold at the end. God is so leave the end out. So if you've got quite sort of curly, hair or frizzy hair, you may want to smooth your hair out first with your lo dryer, with blow dry out smooth because your hair's, like we just rough, dried this or if you drive that as a pancake yeah you're. Just gon na get so we're just going in on dry, but we haven't had to pre do anything to this. So we've left the root and the end out. I like in moments. Do we go back to one well yeah? Actually, because I don't really want to get Botox so as soon as I'm really wrinkly its fringe again. Isn'T it does Alexa have a fringe vote, please another tip and a really key one is when you Tong I'm talking again away from the face backwards. I'M using the flat I'm using this because I'm a hairdresser you don't have to the other thing is: pull it straight afterwards, because again we're trying to avoid the party curls. So the key for avoiding party curls. I leave the root and the end out and pull it straight so where it causes where it sets. Okay, you get more of a wave. We want a wave, not curl. Okay, I'm gon na do one more and let you have a go okay. So so why don't I do one, I'm not that front section! I'M gon na leave for you yeah and I'm gon na do another section here. Also with your hair. You don't need to put on for very long because it takes very quickly and your hair is quite fine. I like me to call it delicate. Your hair is quite delicate yeah, so I'm gon na literally Tong the hair like this, and then I just quickly pull it out and put it down. So it's not. If you've got thicker coarser hair, you might need to hold it for longer. Okay. So what I've been doing wrong, then, is at home. I do it and I go. I go one. Two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine! Ten! That'S is it yeah? You don't need that long, yeah, okay, cuz! You don't want to burn the hair and also, if you want to use protection, always use protection. If you are worried about the always play safe, this cleaning kids always know if you're going to Tong every day. If you're like a serious, if you're a Tong addict yeah, then you should use heat protection, thermal a detection, a spraying, a spray okay, but with yours, I'm so quick on the hair and also because your hair's finally delicate. We don't want to put too much product on the hair because it weigh it down. It weighs it down so over to you at me. Yes, I don't understand, see I'm right hat. It'S I'm yeah yeah, so you're not gon na use the flap, not the root, not the end, not the root, not the end, not long hold it down. What I think did you talk away from the face backwards? Then what did you talk forwards? I don't know that good again, can you like, I think, yeah the same section? Okay, we survived it. This one yeah yeah, look back! Yes, you did is because you're doing on, but when I did it yeah I put the tongue on top of the hair yeah. What did I do? I think you put it on underneath? No, no, you didn't you did it right. It'S cuz, I'm looking at a different angle, okay and then actually, if you're gon na, do it like that without that, what's quite nice to do is if you wrap it in and kind of move it around a little bit and pull it down that way, you Get okay, great, okay, let's move up! So do I need to buy section clips then. Maybe that would be good. That won't be good, but actually what you could just do is Tong the top and just a lot. I say to a lot of people Tong the bits that you can see. You know I mean I'm a head and then just have a flat back. No, like you, you Tong the underneath. Your underneath goes a bit curly anyway, so we're back there yeah. So I think start from the top yet, but you could, if you want to do a proper job, you could buy some section clips and do it for sure. Oh, I can't be bothered with all that yeah. Well, then, don't yeah your turn. Oh, I see what you mean yeah. I went like this, which is under yeah. What about like that? I don't think you're gon na lose your job anytime soon, oh ye! Thankfully, can you not just put the tone on top of the hair and Tong like look? I know it seems easy to you, but is no it's not. I know it's not. I do get that. I really do. This is all I can do. Okay, fine, well, you're, still tonguing away from the hair. So do that yeah that looks nice. Okay, great. That looks nice yeah. In fact, I do think when is interesting when your tongue, in your own hair, I think random sections back and forth actually work quite well, so don't get too hung up on backwards exactly because it's really hard to coordinate your arm. Yeah! Oh no, I could use that hand that that's yeah, I was kind of gon na say for it: wan na throw yeah perfect okay great. So maybe it's about using the different hands on the different sides and let go look at that. It'S pretty yeah, but can you see where that's gone a little bit curly there yeah I've loved it yeah? Okay, let me show Irie so Tong away from the face. Here'S another thing, though I think the advantage I have is that maja we've got. We knew cut these bits in, didn't you, yes, and they work well yeah. They really frame the face. Everyone always thinks you've got a bob anyway, don't they? We have this conversation, but I don't see long hair. I only have three haircuts this longer or short bob. This length is perfect for you, then this is a good base to start for the half-up half-down. This is a really good. I always, I think tonguing is a really good way once you've got the tonguing in then that's a really good base for like any updo. Whenever we do, your up dues for events will like always start with the tongue and then we'll kind of put it into a pony or a barn or a you know: half-up half-down, it's a really good way to start and the tonging around the face, especially if You put it up, it's really nice, that's great! Really, nice not a hardest. You'Ve ever tried, yeah and people always ask about getting to the back of the head again. If you're doing it on yourself, don't worry about the underneath just focus on the top and if you're gon na do the side, pull it round to the front, do pull the back round to the front? Do it like that yeah I mean yeah. Should we do something, should we zoom through the rest of it and they we can put it in fast-forward yeah hit it yester, humming away from the face, I'm holding it for a little bit, moving it around a little bit, which is okay, the same as if You weren't using a kind of just hey the sister, really pretty, really nice. I like we're surprised, but, like we haven't done this, that's really worked out. Well, that's that's! Really good yeah! So, as you can see, we've worked around the whole head. Key tips leave the root and the end out when you take it out, pull it straight, don't leave it in too long only as long as to set the curl don't get too hung up on backwards and forwards just kind of do the technique. It'S not sound like sex advice. Well, it's sex, hair, hair! That'S gon na get you sex. I love it! Thank you. I love it too, and then should we just finished with a little bit of dry shampoo yeah. I think that's a really good stuff. We just use a bit dry shampoo to mattify it. I use dry shampoo, a lot when it's clean, so when we finish now I'll put dry shampoo in at the root, even though it's clean to make it last a bit longer. When I interviewed Karl Lagerfeld once we spent like kind of half a day together, I was observing him in the studio and then I'll ask them some questions and right at the end of the day I was leaving and he went. Oh one more thing. I said the only way take this. He handed me a dry shampoo, which is like a really passive-aggressive. Like quite mean, I heard he was big on dry shampoo. He loves okay. Take this. I use it in my wig and I was like okay great Thanks. Then I got outside like that's so nice boom. Then I thought. Oh, it's cause. I thought my hair look: [ __, ], okay, yeah! Then you do that sort of that's quite good. I spend my whole day thing, but I think that's really good, because that sort of freshens it up a bit yeah. Okay, thanks George. I think it's fab we'll see you next time on hair today and gone tomorrow. No that's a bad name hair today and tomorrow yeah see you there know what feeling not it's all feeling sassy know is it's all up from here with George Northwood, great, that's [, __ ], as well as until good hair, good to hair days with George North Worth every day is a good hair day with George North Georgia, northward and Alexa Chung. That'S too long well, we'll work on the toilet, thanks for watching guys, thanks guys, click comment, etc, etc, and we'll see you next time you

Devin Lee Ostertag: This is the most helpful hair tutorial I've ever watched. Most tutorials are experts showing you how to do it perfectly once. Alexa kind of clumsily trying it and then George adjusting and giving options is SO HELPFUL!

Lucy: I love that fact that it seems like they're at a sleepover learning and experimenting with hair rather than it being a professional tutorial

aquablushgirl: Love how real Alexa's vids are. No perfect execution and 'look how amazing we are' tutorials. Just proper, slightly clumsy, chatty, don't make a drama out of it slightly shambolic gentle guides. Totally love it.

3n7y: The world would be a better place if there was at least one Alexa Chung in each country.

Melissa Ngai: I love their chemistry. This was hilarious and informative. My hair is quite thin, ooh I mean delicate but omg Alexa's hair curls so quickly

Arbenz Tassupang: this tutorial is the only "professionally-done" without a bunch of hair product that i can't afford and i am loving it!

Sarah Hedges Art: Oh I just loved this!! This is just what I needed to know for my hair. More of these tutorials for how you would pop it into an updo etc would be great x

Sara J: I love watching these bc Alexa has the same struggles as me. And with the makeup she’s always saying she doesn’t like to use brushes and doesn’t do all of the fancy things like primer and foundation. It just makes me feel much better rather than those rly extreme makeup tutorials

Erica Robbin: This was helpful thanks! I remember loving party curls in the 1st grade, maybe someday they'll make a comeback, my mom would curl them for me, I felt so special.

narra: this is the most helpful hair tutorial i've ever seen! i think it's more informative like this and its more entertaining to watch too! I LOVE IT

blubei: I love Alexa! She is so naturally charismatic and funny. She seems like such a genuinely, nice person. I think she gets along with everyone. And the hairstylist George seems really nice!

Marylou I. Marquis: Yes to the fringe!!! I actually cut mine after YEARS thanks to you and I kinda miss it...

shedoes concerts: I really love hair tutorials from you! I have the EXACT same hair type and so few stylists are remotely competent with it. please please do more

holicks69: Thanks so much for this .. love your hair so loved seeing how it’s styled x

Sancochef: Really helpful! I'm so glad to have found a gorgeous model that doesn't have amazing hair. Having fine hair I now have 'an authority' to look to and not feel as my hair can never look great because it's not thick.

Tamara C: What a nice tutorial! I've tried perfect waves all this time, but they look awful and my hair looks like a lion mane and I also do the "1,2,3,4,5.." counting hahaha, but George's technique looks simple but SO PERFECT, I'll try it. Alexa thanks for your video tutorials and tips, they are awesome ❣️✨

Jaze Turner: Been waiting for a video like this for years. I always go to your hairstyle as reference for me to do with my own hair. Your hairstyles just look so cute and effortlessly stylish i swear

sadderstar: I completely adore both of you and could watch videos of you guys just hanging out and giving beauty advice all day. Throw in some wine and we can make a night out of it!... wait.. that sounded dirty.. :P You guys are awesome. <3

Jamie Daugherty: bro tonging your own hair IS SO HARD honestly. thank you for keeping it real with us girl! xoxo

FatBestialSwan: Have him on more often! I find his personality really delightful. Also I have really fine but dense hair that's around half my height (I'm 4'8") and I'm wondering if the waves will hold up

stargazerlillie7: I've watched so many hair videos but I love your relationship with your hair dresser and both of your refreshing personalities! Keep uploading PLEASE!!!

Abigail Ridaught: Fringe again! You look great with both but I LOVE your fringe. I actually took a picture of you with fringe to my hairdresser for her inspiration for my first fringe cut, it's so flattering!

Anne Wollny: you´re hilarious! had so much fun watching you guys. I laughed the whole video through AND learned a new skill. Thanks a lot :-)

Kathy Bauman: I tried this myself first time, really works. Got to pull it straight after releasing from curling iron too. I picked up curling iron for under five bucks. Thanks for tips.

Diana Silva: Yeees, thank you! I always love your messy look. Please more hair content

Hey Marey: My Ultimate Hair Goal! The reason I started liking Alexa was when I saw her hair even ages before messy lob was a thing, then I heard her speak, I’ve been simply mesmerised or maybe hypnotised since

sassaK: My hair is a similar fine-ness and is naturally kinda smooth in texture - I don't think I could never get a style like this with just dry shampoo to hold it, but I'll give it a shot. (all styling tends to fade away within 30 min even with hairspray)

Romy Carr: This captures perfectly what an absolute mind & arm boggle it is to curl one’s own hair. Great tips though thank you!

J.H: My hair looks awesome! thanks so much for this x

Alyssa Alamillo: This was my go-to hairstyle in high school thanks to you... also regrettably got a fringe one time and it DID NOT suit me I’ll credit that to my poor judgment. Thanks for the years of hair inspo

Mei Wong: The ending was hilarious! "(sigh) That's too long... we'll work on it". Thank you for this. Such a refreshing and relaxing tutorial!

Susan B: My go-to "effortless" - however takes effort! - look enjoyed this tutorial so much! Thank you!

Santa McKenna: This is the one tutorial where I am able to get the desired result. So glad I stumbled across this, thank you!!

Sezin Durmus: Love her voice, so cool but also representanting a high self esteem - Alexa knows what she wants. Girls and ladies: role model is here.

Yemima Hutapea: Love this!!! And by the way, you look pretty with or without fringe :)

hiime0306: I was trying as I watched the video. I love the results!! Thank you very much!

misshaack: Bless George for providing a variety of tips and suggestions for various skill levels.

Joanna Gregory: Hahaha, I love these videos full of Alexa wit and humour! Never fails to give me a giggle at breakfast! :)

Eren Keskus: I thought that it was a natural but fabulous look for more than 10 years. So you got me with by the effortless looking quality. And ta-da! when I wasn't even looking for it at all out of pure naivete. I feel like I can be the master of my hair now. I feel stronger and safer.

nicolle n.: wow, I was surprised that this was easy to follow and understand for once! He is a great teacher! :)

kettle: This was so refreshing! Fabulous. Anyone can do that. No weird products. Lovely.

Fernández Calderón Laura Aile: "Messy undone not much effort waves" thats exactly what i was looking for i lov u

Katonargh: I stumbled across this video by accident, and it has made be book in a hair appointment to get shoulder length hair, because I now feel confident enough that I'd be able to make 'natural' waves. Really good hair tutorial, and very informative! I love how you are a bit cack-handed with holding the tongs.. (Not in a horrible way, I can just relate!)

Janet Bacarisas: This is nice! Thanks for the hair tips and the dry shampoo..I would love to try it. Cool!

Bloom with Jessika: I’m so glad I’m not the only one who has trouble “coordinating the hand” ! I always seem to do one side and it’s comes out so pretty! But then, the other side comes out meh

blulou49: So simple! You’re a genius

dwallens: I love this look but I live in Florida and the humidity makes my hair simultaneously puff out and lose all wave. Any tips for that, George? This is the exact look I want!

Juli Rossano: I loved when you had bangs! It looked so beautiful!

Katrina Pineda: Great tips! I need to try it cause whenever I try to make messy waves it just ends up as an actual mess

Food. Glam. Life: Ok that pull down after curl tip is new and very helpful for me! He's so sweet and Alexa is just naturally hilarious

Aziza McCarthy: Finally I got it! I can do myself! Thank you very much!!!

Camden1313: Alexa's sense of humour kills me. Also 'yes' to fringe...having said that you look gorge anyway

Bella Bastien: Just recently cut some fringe on my wavy/curly hair expecting to hate it but it’s the best thing I’ve done to it, Alexa you could totally pull it off

Catherine Neil: At least she’s upfront about how long it takes. Sick of seeing these everyday hairstyles that take longer to do than me waking up, showering, eating breakfast, coffee, pooping and driving to work. I appreciate the honesty

Andrea Ortíz Martínez: Finally! Thank you so much, I’ve waited for this my whole life.

xo: You've been my ultimate hair inspiration since I was 14❤

Joana Ribeiro Santos: Fringe is such a classic Alexa look. It would be fun trying them again!

Sydney Stevens: Love this style. Also YESSS for a fringe!!! You’re my style inspo for my fringe

fdxcaf: This is so cool, he actually showed how to do it yourself and make it look great whitout so much effort.

ocandro: This hairstyle and cut is just perfect, I prefer no fringe on you. Side note: you often call your hair thin, but it's actually thick (as in dense) and fine (as in strand size), there is not a lot of scalp showing.

Rafaela MG: I definetly vote for fringe because I was thinking about to get mine back (had it just as a kid) but wasn't sure until I discovered alexa <3

Monnie: Do it Alexa!! Fringe!!!!!! You know you want to!! Bring back the Francoise Hardy/Jean Shrimpton inspo hair!! You're gorgeous regardless x

Jane Burkhart: Gorgeous! Wish I had hair like yours, Alexa, and George to style it every day. Lovely video!

Meredith Slack: I thoroughly love all of your videos. Thank you.

makeupjunkie82: I love your videos...you're so witty and down to earth.

Michelle: my favorite part is how this is mostly a 12 min video of them arguing about hair

Magalí Peters: This is the content that we've been waiting for all these years

rebenasrekoms: More hair videos please! Adore!

Prisca L: This is v helpful since I have a similar hair texture and length! Gonna give it another go

Reggie: Came for the hair skills, stayed for the lolz. Was not expecting to laugh so hard during a hair tutorial.

Jowy: Great tips for "delicate" hair!! Thank you!

Lisa LaFreniere: I prefer a 'controlled chaos' in my hair, this is very nice and fits in that messy chic goal. xx

quelque chose: This is so helpful. Thank you so much.

Sarah Morley: Your hair looks great no matter what you do with it #hairenvy

Molly Osborne: The fringe needs to make a comeback! So iconic ‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️

Purple Nonsense: oh, the fringe. i showed a picture of Alexa to the hairdresser the first time i had my fringe cut and it came out perfectly , just the way i wanted it. the next 2 times were a disaster (same hairdresser, same picture) and I'm still growing it out

Aishwarya Jha: Please do a skincare video - what products you use, treatments/facials you get - the whole enchilada! Bonus points if there's an actual enchilada in the video.
