You may be saying "Help all of the salons are closed and my bangs are in my eyes"!

This is a quick tutorial on how to cut your own bangs for those rare times when you can’t get into your stylist. Note ~ I am not recommending that you get carried away and cut your own hair, But trimming your own bangs is sometimes necessary and can be done fairly easily so long as you follow these few guidelines. Oftentimes just a little bang trim can give you just the boost you need and create a feeling of a fresh cut and hold you over until salons are able to open again.

Message me if you need a little help https://charleenhess.com/hair-dresser/...

Key points.

1. Style your bangs before you cut them (do not do them wet)

2. Use the sharpest scissors you can find

3. Do NOT continually cut the little hairs that hang down that are not already part of your bangs.

4. Cut little bits at a time. You can always take more off/ you can not put it back!

5. pinch together in a tight section for longer corners and a wide section for straight corners.

I have created a Virtual Salon where I can walk you through step by step how to take care of your or your family's hair while salons are closed.

Hello, everyone Charlene has here with living hole, beauty and today's how-to tutorial is going to be on how to cut your own bangs. So I know that salons are closed right now during the coronavirus. And what do you do when your hairs in your eyes - and you have no appointment in sight? That'S why I'm here to help you get through this time. Firstly, I do want to say that I am NOT encouraging you to cut your own hair. Definitely not, but I do want to teach you just a really quick, some tips and tricks to be able to know how to cut your own bangs for those moments in times when you can't get into your hairdresser, so Roxanne Saylor's here my lovely model, who is Demonstrating bangs because I don't have any so we're gon na, let her do her own banks today and I'm gon na walk her through it, just as though I'm walking you through it. So first of all, it's really important to start with your bangs already styled. So you want to, however, you normally wear them. That'S how you're gon na wear them, then you're gon na go through and pull your hair back so that you can see. What exactly is your bangs separating your hair from all of the rest of your bangs? Okay? So it's really important when you are going to be doing this, to make sure that if you have any long hairs that are hanging over that you pull them back and keep them clipped away. You do not want to keep cutting those little pieces. You may be tempted thinking, oh well, it's just one little piece, but if you do that again and again and again and again then before you know it, your bangs are gon na, be all the way back to here. So really important pull all any little strays out and push back, and this is for, if you already have bangs. This is not for if you're going to be giving yourself bangs, so that's gon na be a different tutorial. This is you already have bangs, and now you want to just trim them to get them out of your eyes. Okay, so with Roxanne's fringe, she has fringe is also bangs. She has her fringe is fairly straight across with a little bit of a rounded corner on the end, so that there her corners are a little bit longer to blend in with her long hair. So I'm gon na show you a couple of different ways. If you want to keep the corners long, what you're going to do is grab all of the bangs all of that fringe together in the center pulling all of it together, all the hair from both sides come into Center and you're, going to pinch, sit all the Way to the very center by doing that, by pulling everything together and then once you cut it, what you're going to do is, as you release it, that will make the corners a little bit longer the other option, if you want to have them more straight across All the way back, then, what you will do is you will cut them without pulling them all to the center. So you will leave that a little bit wider, so, depending on how wide that is, is going to determine how much of the corner you cut off. So if you want a long edge like a curtain, bang you're gon na hold it all together in your little piece. Fingers go ahead and do that so we'll demonstrate the first one we're just pulling it all together, make sure we get all of the fringe there. Good, but not that piece, okay, so point one pull them together: yeah so grab that pull all of them together and you're. Gon na take your little piece fingers and then you're, just gon na hold right at the center right about at your eyebrow length from there you're just going to lift up just a little bit. So that makes this a little bit loose. You don't want to have that pulled really tight and again have your hair dry and styled. Don'T do this when it's wet, if you do it when it's wet they're gon na end up quite a bit shorter than what you want and we're just gon na. Take a little bit at a time so doing it with this method. We'Re gon na work with using the scissors cutting straight across is where I go: cross-eyed yeah, I'm so scared. I'M used to my stylist doing this mm-hmm it's a little bit scarier then go ahead and let go and then tada freshly out of her eyes, and so then it leaves that little bit of the longer corner. Now, if you wanted to cut them and take some of that corner away, so you can see how, if you look here, you can see how that line nicely comes down so that it can blend with the rest of her hair if she wanted a fringe or If you have the type of hair, where your fringe comes straight back as all the way across, then what you would do and don't worry, I want it that way. What you would do is you would bring all of it to about the center of your eyebrow. On both sides, that's going to be about the width that you hold. It then you'll go through and you would just point cut if you want to have a little bit of a softer edge or if you want a blunt edge, then you will cut straight across. So those are the two markers of what to do when you get your corner so for Roxy we want to keep her corners, so we're not going to take any more off of that. So then, the next piece, if you don't want to have a really solid blunt line - and you want to have a little bit more lift so Roxanne has naturally curly hair. So she wants a little bit more lift in through here. So the next piece of what you're going to do is you'll go ahead and take that whole section and you're going to comb it all the way up. So, as you comb it up, you can see these little hairs are gon na fall down and once those hairs fall out, you know you're not going to be changing the length. Then, what's left you're going to hold that straight up and then you're just going to take and cut straight across just taking a very little edge away. You don't want to cut very much so I'll. Let you go ahead and do that so holding it up. Seeing that most of this front part drops out and you Cara had and yep line it up with your finger, this is where uh can I see it? I don't know this is much easier to do in a mirror. Yes doing it in a phone is not as easy, but I did get. I got a little bit yeah. So then that gives it that little bit of lift so there it is how to cut your own bangs. You can also go through another little trip. A little tip is, if you want them to be a little bit more straight across you'll. Just pick the hair up put the comb there right, so the teeth of the comb are facing out. Alright, so the teeth are facing out. So you pick the hair up. Let the teeth face out comb down and then lift a little bit so that you get a little bit of a this fullness here versus being pulled down straight and then you can just go in with the points of the scissors and trim just the edges. This way just moving back and forth, you can cut it straight across holding it out just slightly, but if you do it with using the points of the scissors coming up into the comb, so the comb is going to be facing teeth out and then you'll just Go in and cut just like that and there you go how to cut your own bangs. So then, when she takes her hair down, it now blends nicely with the rest of her hair, because she we kept those nice little corners. So there it is. Hopefully that is helpful for you. Saumya Sharma: Literally SAVED my life and a trip to the salon!! Thank you for breaking down the process so clearly, so glad that my fringe isn't in my face anymore <3

Denise Musser: Thank you for being the most rational, sane and reasonable hair artist out here! I couldn't bear to watch so many of these as they were done with bad instruction, bad lighting and too much drama. Thank you! Stay safe.

Laurie: I just came across your video. I've been trimming my own bangs most of my adult life, but I only knew how to cut straight across. I just trimmed them using your technique and it's exactly what I wanted. Thank you!

Thirzah Jennings: Hi I'm nearly 40 and have never cut my own hair before tonight. Two weeks ago I got curtain bangs. My first fringe in 30 ish years. It was already getting in my eyes so I used your pinch method and successfully trimmed it just enough. You gave me the confidence to try to managed my fringe myself between hairdresser appointments. Thank you so much.

Alison Schofield: Thank you so much for your easy, reassuring approach. I've taken a deep breath and trimmed my fringe for the first time ever. In fact I did it 3 times because I hadn't taken enough length off but much better that way than being horrified! I feel so much better, such a shame that I can't do my colour too but if I home colour my hairdresser won't touch my hair again

Robert Newell: Fabulous. My wife has asked me to cut her fringe and I was terrified! Hopefully now all will be well. Thanks a lot.

wordpainting3: This was awesome. My bangs actually look better than when I go to the hair stylist. I never knew how to ask for what I wanted but that lift thing really lightened up the heaviness of my bangs. Great job!

BB Gant: Thank you so much!! This tutorial is one of the best I have ever seen! You included so many salon tips which makes it look more professionally done. My bangs look fantastic & I am thrilled! ♥️♥️

Dawn Adriana: So glad I found you as I was ready to start cutting out of desperation! I watched twice, once to learn and then had you on while I cut in front of the mirror, following your guidelines. I had to use my little cuticle scissors... yet ended up with great bangs! With all the human suffering going on, it may seem silly, but I feel so much better on a gray, rainy day in Oregon. Stay safe, and thank you!

Betty Wilchek: Charlene, Your Video is #1 for trimming Bangs. You get right to the point, easy, simple, and I have trimmed my own bangs for the 2nd time Today with Success. I just finished cutting my wife's fringe (locked down in Australia) following your instructions and she's more than happy. I might go into business! ;-) Thanks again! Mark (Yes, fellas, even a man can do it!) LOL

Dee Hanley: Thank you, this is the least terrifying bang trim video of the trillion I have watched. Having someone do it on their own hair was key.Thank you Charleen for helping all of us out there ,worldwide, to make us feel just a little bit better. Stay well, all.

Jobina Avonley: I followed your steps, and my bangs came out just fine! Thank you so very much!

BeagleMom: I can finally see! I viewed several videos on how to trim your bangs & yours is by far the best & easiest to follow. I had an appointment to get my hair trimmed at Paul Mitchell School which I've been going to for years as I'm a senior on a fixed income & they do a great job. The day before my appointment they called & said they would be closing until April 1st due to Covid-19 & since it was the middle of March I thought I could swing it although my bangs were already kind of long. That was 2 months ago & being in Michigan, we are on an extended stay at home order until May 28th, which could be longer the way things are going here. I teased my bangs, curled my bangs, anything so they would stay out of my eyes but couldn't manage them anymore, until today. I was so nervous as I'm someone who has never done anything to my hair & freak out if I have short bangs, but I did it thanks to you! Now if only I could trim the rest as it's long & thick, but I'm not that crazy! To anyone who's contemplating attempting this, you've found the right video. Thank you!

Susanna Heimann: Thanks so much for this video. Best, most comprehensive and easy to follow video I’ve seen. Funny how I didn’t think twice about parasailing or skiing, but am terrified to cut my own bangs.

Heidi: I’ve had bangs all my life (I’m 50) so I’m more than comfortable with cutting my own bangs..but I didn’t know about that trick with pulling them to a point so the outside edges are a little bit longer...thanks because that’s the way I like them .

Richard Petts: Thank you so much, as my wife left for work this morning, she said she would like me to trim her fringe this weekend, last weekend I coloured her hair for the first time and she was really pleased with the out come. Thank you for the great advice and tips in your video.

Meghan Stanbridge: Thank you for this! I had to cut my own bangs today and they turned out pretty good thanks to you!

L Molloy: Thanks for a perfectly explained lesson on fringe ( in Scotland ) trimming. Copied your method and am so happy with the result.

Deborah Waybright: This was EXACTLY what I needed, great teacher and student! Well done, and very much needed at this time!

jo egleton: Oh wow -- thank you SO much for that -- I will be doing that tomorrow x

mewmew: Thank you, Charleen! I was worried because the edges of my straight bangs have become very curved because I side sweep them, but the pinch to the middle between the eyebrows method worked well, along with some minor cuts when I release the,. Looking forward to seeing more tutorials from you!

Gayle Selby: I often travel for months at a time and I wish I had seen this video before! Thank you for the clear and concise method! I will probably doing this in a week or so!!!
