Hey guys welcome to my bathroom, I'm gon na, be showing you how I do my velcro rollers, how I use them in my hair. First off, I'm just gon na run you through the products I'm going to be using them to be using my Revlon curling iron. Here is just a skinny one, I'm not exactly sure what the size is, but it's a pretty small one and also I've got this little basket that I use that I put my stuff and I've got some clips. These are available at Sally they're, available at Sally Beauty, Supply and they're, just clips that go over your rollers and then I've got several different kinds. I use these large ones this. These are other another Sally product. These are for fine hair, just the big size, and then I have a group, and these are goodie brand and I got them a while back from Walmart and basically it's a set that you get of all these different sized rollers and they just kind of fit. One inside the other, but I put them all in this little basket - I will go through and use some of those different sizes. So just whatever you have I'm gon na show you there's other brands that sell you know velcro rollers. So if you find something comparable, you know big rollers, small roller. You know medium roller, that's kind of the terminology. I guess I'm going to be using here. As far as styling products, I am going to be using a heat sort of a heat protectant spray. It'S they beyond the zone, turn up the heat, it's Flatiron protection, but it can also be used to where, when you're, using curling irons, and then I'm going to be using my so gorgeous volumizing hairspray, that's another Sally product that I'm going to use once my rollers Are in kind of spray all over and get more volume, alright, so step one is kind of getting your hair parted and deciding you know where you want the volume and what I do. I have sort of you know my hair's a little shorter here. I have Peniston likes long bangs there, so I tend to like to leave those out of this whole process and pull back some of the hair straight back. That'S right behind that, because I like to have a little poof in the crown. So this is going to give us some volume. The whole purpose of using these kinds of rollers is to give us basically more more volume, and so I'm going to pull up a strip of hair. That'S about that much and you may not be able to see this because my hair is kind of long, but I'm gon na take my curling iron and I have to stretch my arms all the way up to get it all in there and then I'm gon Na just roll it back like this, so you can see I'm rolling it backward and just hold that there for a little while let it get hot and then I'm going to be taking one of these larger sized rollers and I'm going to quickly put it in There right after I take it off the curling iron and the reason why you want to do that. There'S my curl! It'S because it's hot right now, okay, that hair, is hot and we want to take advantage of that heat and when you put it on a roller, it's going to now, you know take on the shape of this roller when it's hot, you won't have that effect. If you put these in and your hair is cooled off, alright does that make kind of make sense to everybody and by the way I did spritz on some of the yiamas own heat protectant spray before I got going here and now that I've got that in There another thing that I forgot to mention, but you may want to use some of these little clips. This is another cheap, cheap, Sally product. If you feel like that's moving around on top of your head, you can just kind of clip that in there I'm just flipping it on top of the roller and on with the hair, that's underneath and then spritz some of some of your hairspray all over that And when you take it out, you're going to find you have a lot more volume, so next, what I'm going to do is go directly behind that with about two more rollers, so I'm going to go! Go about that with the exact same process. You may not always need to use the clips. Usually I just need it on the one. That'S right on top of my head like this, so I'm going to go ahead and put in those couple more rollers and I'll join you again. When I get started on this guy's, I've got three rollers now and one on top of my head, one another large sized roller right behind that and a medium sized roller behind that and the whole concept with this. For my hair anyway, I want to have a live, lift up here, so I'm using larger sizes, and then I want more curl towards the bottom, so using smaller sizes down here we go. I'M gon na grab out about that much hair close to my face and instead of putting them in going like horizontally, I'm gon na actually put it in vertically and I'm going to curl my hair. So it's curling back from my face. Okay, so I'm gon na get my curling iron on that and curl it back like that, and this is gon na kind of give us that. Look! That'S really in right now, where your hair is kind of. You know coming away from your face and also for me, with these layers around my face, helps to keep my hair out of my face by rolling it back this way so hold it in there in your curling iron for a second I'm gon na put my Roller in here and just roll it up like that and you may want, may or may not need to clip it in mine's holding in pretty well on its own and just spray it with a little hairspray and there you go so guys right behind this roller. I'M going to put two more smaller sized rollers, so just vertically, like that, one behind the other heading back like that. So I will join you again after again, so I've got my three rollers here, one two three going back in that direction: they're all vertical and then I'm going to do the same side here. But I'm just going to demonstrate for those of you and a lot of people have this kind of like longer side, bang thing going on, so I'm going to pull out some of that here that I don't exactly want to include in this roller. So I'm going to kind of pull that section down and pull up the section closest to that right. Here, I'm going to pull that out and put a medium roller in there. I got to pull it out of its little chunk here that it's it. Oh yes, the fun of rollers, and so this is the size I'm going to be using. So I'm just going to once again put it in this is where you may have some challenges in terms of how it all went in in terms of getting all your hair, all your layers in the curling iron at once. So it doesn't have to be perfect and that's the beauty of rollers. Is that you get it you just get it up. You know get your here in there and you know you'll be fine so immediately after taking it off the curling iron, that's the big key. Get it rolled back there just like that, give it a spritz of some hairspray and you're good and I'm going to go ahead and do the same thing. I did on this side to smaller rollers, going one after the other back towards the back of mine. Okay guys, so this is the amount of hair I've got left. I'Ve pulled it around kind of equally on each side, I'll turn around and show you what I've got going on here so far in terms of the curler look. So it's basically one two three one, two three and then so I just did one lower one here, one lower one here and one in the middle in the back. So now that you officially look like an alien eye, you might be wondering well, what's gon na happen here with this hair. What I generally do with this is just while my curling iron is still out. I go ahead and give it a curl just so it gets some curve to it. It'S stuffs falling there with those layers and then just kind of what I do since mine are long enough. So I just kind of hook them back here so they're. Out of my face - and I can keep doing my makeup or whatever I was doing and then it'll all work into the finished. Look so I'll go ahead and let these stay in for about 15 minutes or so you can leave them in longer. Basically, the longer they stay in the more tight of a look you're gon na get the more. These are going to be able to do their job so, and I will come back and join you when I come take them all right, guys, it's time to take out the rollers. This is kind of like unwrapping a present to me. I'M always excited to take them out and see what I have so just kind of unroll them and you'll see you've got kind of a nice like spring curl like that. That'S basically what these small rollers are gon na do all over your head. These medium ones are going to give you more of a you know, bigger curl, like that just kind of curving back and that's how everything is curving back the same way. So that's really great about these and then I'll take out a big back here. So you can kind of see what you get from that it's like a big curl like that. Basically, in most of the lift, there's a lot of lift here at the roots from those big ones. So I'm gon na go ahead and get all these out of my hair, and I will join you when I get there guys got all the rollers taken out that little step stool here. So I can stand up higher and show you what the ends turned out to look like again. It'S I'm really happy with how this always works out, because it's like I love that kind of turned back look to the hair, it's all coming back, and so the next step after you get through it. You want to just kind of brush through the hair kind of get it all working the same way. You can kind of direct it back and get all the all that hair just kind of meshing with one another, and you can totally stop at this point and kind of you know go with what you have. I think that's a really pretty look, but if you want just a little more volume kind of pull it back in the same method, you did for your first roller, pull it straight up. Grab your rat tail comb, just tease it a little bit there in the crown, tease a little bit right over here on the side of that tease a little bit over on this side. Oops just thought: I'd! Take you through a styling option here, while I'm, you know, got everything out and I'm doing this look and then another thing take start taking the area that was your bangs and kind of start combing, those back just a bit too little back combing can go a Long way in this style I fan and then take some of that volumizing hairspray to spray it all over. Take one of these little hair pins. You can find these at Sally's and they are the ideal thing to kind of tone down any teased hair that you've been working on. I love using these so much so we're just taking that hair and just smoothing it out kind of boosting it up in some areas. This is pretty much my everyday look for what I'm doing the news or well doing the news, that's what I do every day. So kind of got it turning back on each side. The only challenge I find the hardest part for me is dealing with my little bangs here and trying to style those in in such a way that they're not getting down in my face, but yet they're kind of framing the look so that little pin works wonders Just for a styling tool and then once you kind of got that how you want it once you got it, how you want on the side, absolutely spray it one more time spray that all over Spray in here once you've got that kind of how you want It just like so and then kind of work around with these sides a little bit spritz it down at the bottom, and there you go, there's a look that you can easily pull off with velcro rollers. It really helps you get that volume here that we've gotten the crown, but it also is really good for the bottom of your hair, to kind of give you that uniform little, you know curly-haired look there. So thank you guys so much for watching. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and have a great day. They'Ll hold it in there in your curling iron for a second whoa. Oh my gosh, something just absolutely sparked there did you guys see that all right, everything's fine, but there was a little spark there. I'M not sure how my curling iron is still on, so we'll just go with this, but something totally sparked here. The curling iron is still on and everything's fine, but you

Alex MacRae: watching this video in 2019, and my gosh you haven’t changed a bit!! you are seriously the most humble and genuine you tuber!! Love you Emily

Kiana Levinthol: Awww, baby Emily popped up in my feed in 2020. This gave me the warm and fuzzies. I am seriously shocked at how little she's aged in 11 years. Her voice has changed a bit, though it could be a sound quality thing.

GlitterMakeupQueen: I did this today with my hair and it has held the curl for like 4 hours so far!!! It looks so good so thank you so much for this tutorial!

Mandee Reese: Emily, I love your videos. I use the same rollers on my hair. I do use a root lifting spray on the roots before I put the roller and it seems to hold the volume longer for me. I never thought about using the curling iron before the I put the roller in though.I usually use the curling iron after I pull the roller out. Great idea! I'm definitely going to try that.

Jasmine Rojas: I love this look! You make awesome videos Thanks for the videos Emily :D

livelovelaugh994: I love this video! It's so informative and the end result was so pretty! :)

Priscilla Basilio: This was EXTREMELY helpful. You seemed to answer every question I had from other videos. Great job! And you're gorgeous :)

selenia carrico: I absolutely love watching your tutorials on make up and hair. You do great in front of the camera.

Sasha Anastasia: I love this! It kind of resembles beauty pageant hair, and yet it seems totally wearable! I never do a whole lot with my hair because I don't ever have/make the time, and I guess I just never got into it like I did with makeup. But this spurs my curious & creative side =) That spark was scary! I don't think I would've been quite as calm as you were.

Jayme Jarrett: Emily, I think you are so fantastic! This is the best idea! Your hair always looks beautiful! You should really think of writing a beauty book, seriously!! Love all your tutorials! Please keep them coming!

sweetbabyasia: Thanks! Finally a video that explains it from start to finish, with great little tips. Never thought to heat my hair with curling iron before using velcro rollers.

Thanh-Tu Nguyen: This is a VERY VERY useful tutorial. I've had these velcro rollers and I just can't figure out the placement until this video. Thank you so much!

Luvmylookalikes: you made it look so easy. thanks for this tutorial!

barbieluvsken7: This is an awesome way to style hair using velcro rollers. I usually wash my hair at night & sleep in velcro rollers, then in the morning my hair is dry & as I take the rollers out I use the blo dryer & a round brush to help smooth my hair. It isn't always easy to sleep in rollers, but I love the way they make my hair look. I tried this idea and it makes my hair look just like I had slept in the rollers. I'm so glad you shared this wonderful idea!

ladypinkylee: Thank you for doing this vid! I have no skills when it comes to curling my hair, so I'm going to try this. You are the BEST at explaining things. You'd be a great mom or teacher. :-)

XxSARAHRubyxX: you did a great job. i had bought velcro rollers at sally's and have been dying to have really nice curls, but i guess my problem was that i hadn't had used a curling iron before hand, and also didn't put the rollers verticallly, so thanks alot for this video!

movielover978: thank you so much for this tutorial, I never did know how to use the velcro rollers. I always struggle when comes to rollers. THIS IS GREAT !!! Thank you so much

Faedyn: this TOTALLY helped me sooo much; id never thought about heating my hair before i put the rollers in!

xDaniDragonflyx: This was so helpful! Thanks so much for the tutorial! I'm going to check out more of your vids

Kate Kate: thanks for all that fantastic detail Emily, as always... if you get sick of journalism/news reading you would make a great teacher with your patience and sweet nature! Thanks again!

BINNIE: oh wow emily, am amazed at how easy you made using rollers look & curling tongs look! i normally just get someone to do my hair as I dont think i can do a good job myself :(!! but Im defo going to give it a go I have lairing at the front of my hair like you and long shoulder lenght thanks for the brill tutorial :) xxx

legallybrunette34: Thanks for this video Emily. So far I've only tried Hot Rollers, but this looks so good, I need to pick up some of the rollers at Sally's.

Sara Jumonville: Thanks for this. It's good to see someone with long hair doing a tutorial on velcro rollers, since I mostly see short haired girls using them on their shoulder length hair.

Kris: Another fan of velcro rollers, here. In fact I have that same Goody Set. What I like to use is Redken's Spray Starch in the manner that you used the hair spray, It gives loads of volume-and dosen't leave that coated feelling on my hair, like hair spray does. Thanks for the tutorial.Your videos are great.

devilsgirl27: Your video is great!! A tip for those who were asking about getting the curlers stuck in your hair, try with dry hair, supposedly that happens with wet hair! ^_^

Michelle Arcilla: I took a hairstyling class but my teacher didn't teach us this technique using a curling iron with our hair rollers. Thanks for the video!

Erin Gustin: Thanks for doing this video. I never knew what to do with velcro rollers before this. Never thought about heating the hair first! :) And your curling iron blooper was funny....be careful!! :)

Emily Noel: you have no idea how many requests I get for the hairstyle I do when I'm anchoring the news. love it or hate it, here it is. there are a lot of people out there that wanted to see how it's done so that's what I set out to do with this video

Meagan Vogelsang: a good way to curl it and make sure all layers are included is to start mid-shaft and then slowly turn it and feed the rest of your hair thru the iron and also by doing that it keeps the curl stronger and longer and also it doesnt put so much damage on your ends since the heat isnt on it as long

cynlapp: I use velcro rollers everyday! They're great because they don't damage your hair, they're cheap and they give you tons of volume! I have short hair so I use the velcro rollers for volume, not curls/waves, and it works so well!

Alessia: I so love how you style your hair! I wish I was as skilled as you :P You make it look so simple....

GatorFan1957: thanks for the video! now I finally know what to do w/my velcro rollers! I've always just put them in my "cold" hair and couldn't figure out why I never got any results - didn't know I needed to use a curling iron along w/the rollers... Thanks!

C.Williams: SO helpful! I have the ones from walmart too! and might I say - you are gorgeous!!

Marilia Artist: it's 2013 now and I still come back to watch your older videos in my free time!!!! love watching your videos!!! ^_^

breychristopher: thanks for this video. finally someone did it from start to finish. Great video!!!

Jenn Siler: Thanks for the video, I am curling my hair with rollers for my graduation ceremony. We have to wear the cap and gown so I decided to go with wavy curly hair since the top is going to be covered.

Erin Pickering-Gutierrez: haha, the bloopers are awesome. I had the spark thing happen to my laptop cord, then it went kaput. I love your videos. They are so helpful! Keep making them :)

Michelle Lyman: you do have beautiful hair!  I love my velcro rollers for my baby fine, think, shoulder length hair but I can't use that much heat on mine though so instead of the curling iron, I use a blow dryer on the rollers after I put them in, then let it cool down before I remove them.  My hair is fine and breaks easily, it's not colored or anything like that, it's just kinda delicate and not thick and strong and lush like yours.  You have great hair! The way you handled the side bang area was really helpful - thanks!  Yet another great video.

LisaFreemontStreet: THis same technique works w/ pincurls. While the hair is hot, spray the underside w/ hairspray, roll in from the ends, and pin to your head, standing up like it's on a roller. Almost the same effect! :) Thanks for the vid, emily.

ReenBlom: Wow , awesome tutorial!

katieshelby: You are so pretty! I've never really grasped a good way to do rollers because I have thick hair and it's really long, and because of that I lose volume on top. Definitely gonna try this!

judenamibia: Thanks for this! Fancied having a go with velcro rollers but wasn't sure how to go about it.

Emily Noel: yes I'm planning to do a hot roller one too-- my hot rollers give me a different look from this though and I don't get as much lift at the roots as I do with those jumbo velcro ones :)

jvaldez1123: OMG! That totally happened to my curling iron once, but it actually shocked my wrist before I saw the spark. Taught me a lesson to check my tools every time I use them! LOL!=0)

OhSoShilpa: Anyone know how long you're supposed to keep the velcro rollers in? Also, how long does the style last? Is this something I could do before work in the morning and it'll last til 5pm? Or is this better for just for the evening, like 4-5 hours?

A Passage To Health: What HELPFUL tips!! Cute bloopers...glad you spotted the bad cord! :)

niteskyx0: Thats scary! I'm glad you're okay! And thank you for providing a great step by step for rollers, I never knew how to use them!

Snow White: Ohman. Thanks so much. This helped a lot. I have the Velcro Rollers this size from Conair brand and I had no idea how to use them til now, lol. I will get some clips. And honestly people, if you use a heat protectant, a little heat won't hurt your hair that much, especially if you don't do it every day. Yes, its not ideal, but wearing rollers to bed to dry isn't great either because it can pull your roots.

Shelly Vigil: Very helpful. Thank you!

Justasam: Sweet I just bought that exact type of roller today from wal mart and was watching these videos just to learn how to use them ^___^

ratherthanfacebook: this video is so charming! and I learned a lot. 10/10!

MrsHopkins73: Emily, Have you tried Caruso Steam Rollers? or those other brands? (There are other brands of steam rollers too) I think they make the bounciest and longest lasting curls. I think they are available at Sally's as well.

lcd1023: Velcro rollers are wonderful. Thanks for showing this one. Love your videos...you are so sweet.

ellesprettyinpink: Love it!!!

chinadawl333: That happened to me before with the spark... it was because I always dangle and being really rough w/ my curling iron. So i've learned my lesson and i'm really gentle with it now... I don't pull or dangle on the wire anymore.

mishiellie: wow~~ awsome tutorial..THANK YOU!! I had the Goody's Velcro Roller set for the longest time and didn't kmnow how to use them... I will try this out once my hair grow out again.. its really short now =(

Maryl Smith: Every time I try velcro rollers they get tangled somethin awful in my hair. Question, emilynoel83: what do you think of hairsetters, the kind that heat up the velvet-wrapped rollers? Why don't you use those?

MissMargaret: I like the after-school special moment where you showed us the curling iron gone wild. lol

Nicola Howson: great video imaa deffo going to try this :D u have organized ur rollers soo neatly, A familiy friend gave me all her hairdressing kit with manequin heads and clips n rollers and at the minute they are all messed up!! Not a worry though as i start hairdressing at college next month so ill get a new kit yay!!! x

FrauEmily1: I love your hair! I don´t use hot rollers anymore, it damaged my hair a lot. Do you use any hair-protection-product?

Katie: Thats so beautiful and glamorous!

Angelee Mehta: Do you ever just keep it the way it is right when you take the rollers out? I like it better when it looks like that, it makes you look really young and pretty :)

Frances G.: you are so organized.. I aspire to be like you LOL. especially with your makeup collection!

candybaby57: Hey Emily!!!! I was just wondering are you still using your generic matrix amplify shampoo?? You hair looks amazing!!!!!!!! What products do you use in it?? can you please do a hair product update video, telling us about the different shampoos and stuff you've tried??? THANKS!!!

Shelley Dunnett: Loved your hair video.... great job. You are lucky with your curling iron that it did not catch fire... wow, that was some scary. Glad that you are ok. Have a great day. Hugs & Kisses xXx

barbieluvsken7: One more thing-I've gone through 2 or 3 Revlon blo dryers because I've had problems with the cords. One of them even made a loud pop sound & sparked when I was using it, similar to what happened to you. I love Revlon cosmetics, but the styling tools they make aren't very good quality. Just thought you would be interested to know that you aren't the only person that has had problems with Revlon styling tools. Thanks again for this wonderful video!

Ms TaterCakes: Thanks, I never thought of using the curling iron and rollers together. Thanks.

Amanda Holt: I tired this and oh my it defo works for me, didn't look as good as yours though but should progress in time haha! thank you so much!!

Illy Junus: i love this, i just did your tutorial for my hair few days ago and my mother inlaw suddenly give me comment, which she never did that before... thanks..

candybaby57: your hair always looks so shiny and healthy!!! what products do you use(shampoo, conditioner?)

martinie13: Awesome. Question do you straighten your hair first or just blow dry?

UMDGuard: this was so helpful. thankyou :]

Le Palacio: very helpful thanks!

piglettigger: oh goodness thank you so much!! now i can actually try this with the rollers i have that, i could never figure out how to work! lol

Nichole Baniwas: I had the exact same thing happen to me and my old curling iron!!!! I tossed it away as soon as I saw the exposed wire. Yikes!

Emily Noel: In the mornings I get the rollers in in less than 10 minutes. I leave them in for between 10 and 15 :) for the process of styling it once they're out- i left that all in real time on here

Joshua Veselka: that was amazing thank you i just have to go try it now haha

Sandra V: Oh, I wish I have long hair.. It looks amazing! (:

miguelfernandez_mua: Like very much the way you do your curly hair!!

🌺Michelle B🌺: Emily.. My revlon curling iron just like that did same thing. I was curling my bangs and freaked out when it sparked and it fell on my forehead.. I'm glad you were ok.

Erika G: Ah ! Im Going To Use It. I Love This !!! ^_^

BirdOfParadise777: Pfffffft! I never thought of using the curling iron first! I was given a hair dryer with a cap and I have been using that! Thanks:)

gandra9798: @annapatti1 velcro rollers are more suitable for straight hair. Is your hair dry/frizzy (or even with very tight natural curls? If so, please don't use velcro as it will most likely damage your hair!

chilipeppa13: great video! that spark was scary...glad your ok! thanks for the curler lesson!

shoefetish55: Hey! I have that curling iron too! :D

altosax315: The bloopers make me afraid to use my curling iron! haha Great video!

dearteejay: i tend to have trouble taking the velcro rollers out of my hair without ruining the curls. :[ is there something i'm doing wrong?

megu914: really beautiful hair

maritschie: @mandaline425 you do not necessarily use a iron. But if you use one, the curls get more defined, similar to using hot rollers. If you dont use a iron, it will rather give body to your hair and less curls

Sunni Olejnicak: you're so lucky your hair stays in those. i have the thickest hair and it WILL NOT stay in those :P but my hair does hold a curl when i curl it with a straightener, so its all good. (: i love your videos!

tyedye: Kind of a long process. Using the curling iron and then rollers. You could eliminate the curling iron by using hot rollers and spraying each roll as you did. The hot rollers stay hotter longer which is good news for people like us with fine hair.

Mary5Sunkissed: I love the volume!

Brittany Paige: Can you use velcro rollers when your hair is wet and then just blow dry it? Or does it have to be dry

Ashley Bundziak Nakonechny: Oh my.... shopping time for a new curling iron. Thanks for the vid and tips :)

Bibi Martinez: does that hairspray work well?? and nice video!

BeautyBrush by Ashvin: I have naturally tight curly hair..how would you recommend doing this for my crown area without losing my curls and having to straighten it?

Personal hannah Account: huge help thankyou!!!

mr plays: I love it.  Thanks.

makeupv: this was very helpful vid thanks for put this up

Andrea Feinstein: I would like to know how long you leave the velcro rolles on?
