✅Ingredients

• 2½ teaspoons instant dry yeast

• 2 tablespoons warm water

• 1 cup pumpkin puree

• 1/3 cup warm milk

• 1/4 cup butter, softened

• 1 large egg

• 2 tablespoons brown sugar

• 1/4 teaspoon salt

• 3½ - 4 cups all-purpose flour

• 1 egg, lightly beaten

✅Instructions

1️⃣ 00:32 - Dissolve the yeast into the water in a large mixing bowl or bowl of a stand mixer.

2️⃣ 00:46 - Add in the pumpkin, milk, butter, egg, brown sugar and salt. Mix it until it is well combined.

3️⃣ 01:22 - Add flour 1/2 cup at a time until a nice, soft dough forms.

4️⃣ 01:34 - Knead the dough for 5 minutes or so until is smooth and elastic. Place in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise about 1 hour.

5️⃣ 01:57 - Divide the risen dough into thirds. Roll out each third into a long snake or rope (about 18 inches long). Lay the 3 ropes next to each other on a lightly greased baking sheet. One one end of the rope, pinch the 3 strands together and begin to braid. When you've braided the whole thing, pinch the remaining ends together.

6️⃣ 02:56 - Cover and let rise another 30 minutes or so. Brush the braided dough with the lightly beaten egg.

7️⃣ 03:17 - Bake at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.

Today, on the stay at home chef, I'm showing you how to make braided pumpkin bread. This isn't your typical pumpkin bread, most pumpkin breads are quick breads, but this is a yeast based bread. The pumpkin flavor isn't super strong. In fact, it's very mild. The bread really just tastes like fall, it's so soft and delicious. It'S actually one of our family's favorite breads. My kids are super excited that I'm making this today it starts with two and a half teaspoons of instant dry yeast. You want to make sure you use instant because it requires no proofing and you can just move on with your recipe. I'M going to put that in my stand: mixer along with 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, two tablespoons of warm water, that's just warm to the touch! A quarter teaspoon of salt, a quarter cup of softened butter, one cup of pumpkin puree and that's just from a can just make sure you have pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie, mix. Two very different things then we're gon na add in one egg and 1/3, a cup of warm milk, and I just warm that in the microwave for about 20 seconds and then we'll add in three and a half cups of all-purpose flour, you may end up adding Up to 4 cups of flour in this recipe, but we're gon na start with three and a half and get this mixing. The dough should pull away from the sides of the bowl and form a dough ball. Just like this. If not, you may need to add a little bit more flour. It should take about three or four minutes to get your dough where it needs to be, then we're gon na pull it out and transfer it to a lightly greased mixing bowl cover it with a towel and let it rise until double in size which will take About 1 hour, once the dough has risen, turn it out onto a clean flat, work surface and divide it into three somewhat equal pieces, and I just eyeball it on size. Then we're going to take each of these pieces and roll them in two ropes or snakes. You want each one to be about 18 inches long, once you've rolled all your pieces out it's time to braid them together, and this is the part I love, because it makes the bread so pretty lay them all side-by-side like so, and then take one end and Pinch all the pieces together, then you just braid it back and forth. Just like you would with hair and then pinch the end together and then I'm going to gently lift this up and place it onto a lightly greased baking sheet. Super super easy. I'M going to cover this with my towel again and let it rise for another 30 minutes. While I get the oven, preheating to 350 degrees, once it's risen, the second time take a lightly beaten egg and brush it over the top of the loaf. The egg will give the bread a nice shine to it that makes it even prettier. Next, we're gon na take this and bake it in the 350 degree, oven for 25 minutes, and that's it once your bread has finished baking, simply transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely thanks for watching. diane sanzone: I made this delicious bread around the Thanksgiving holiday and just now see I have a lot of cans of pumpkin purée in the cupboard. I was wondering what would happen if I followed the recipe but made individual "breads" and put them in a muffin tin, would they bake up like rolls or should I not chance it.
