Hey Glambassadors!

Today I am showing you how to do crochet braids, with a couple added techniques for those who are more conscious about their foreheads. Alison prefers to have a bit of hair in her face for some forehead coverage. From there we decided to cut the crochets into a stacked bob. Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Until next time Glamfam, take care, God bless, and stay Glam! You know we love you boo!

Linwood Darkis shows how to do crochet braids to cover your forehead on his wife Alison Darkis. In this video Linwood shows a crochet braiding pattern, a knotting technique for crochet braids, and how to do an invisible part on Crochet braids. The purpose of this channel is to educate people on how to simplify proper hair care, and teach them how to do hair and styling techniques.Linwood is a licensed cosmetologist and cosmetology instructor, and he teaches high school aged students on a daily basis.

Hey glam, fam, hey, so it's my beautiful wife, allison and lynnwood here and today we're going to be showing you a crochet braid tutorial, the hair that we're going to be using. We got off of amazon i'll, throw some shots of it up on screen and i'm going to be using my thread rack just because it helps to keep the hair separated and it makes things a lot easier. This was a four pack of hair, it all came in one bundle and they were even nice enough to send in the crochet hook, which is actually a latch hook for all those little crafters and the little bead thingies. I don't know what these are called, but they said. Ah, they sent those as well so yeah anyway, i'm gon na go ahead and start braiding for the sake of not having a ridiculously long intro all right. So i began by detangling allison's hair because of course it was up in her bun from there we're going to do some straight back braids just about to where the ear is across the top of the crown. So, just behind the apex of her head, which is the highest point of her head from there, we're just going to braid these babies straight back and i'm gon na do so on both sides. I won't show you the other side, so don't be surprised when you see it once we have done that. We'Re gon na go ahead and move up towards the top. I'M gon na do one more straight back braid there, and this should be my parting space here from there i'm going to go ahead and do a curvature around the front. Now this allows the hair to fall towards her face into like a bang. So if you're one that's like conscious about your forehead things like that doing, this curvature allows you to have a bang that falls down into the face and gives you some coverage of the forehead there. So i'm gon na do one more braid, that's slightly curved and then the rest of them will be straight back. Okay, so you can see here i'm doing the next one. That'S slightly curved um. Once we get through with this one, everything else is going to be straight back. So, honestly, it's rather simple from here - and i just i don't know i feel like a lot of people - overly complicate your crochet braids and it's it's not really necessary to do all of that. So yeah we're gon na go ahead and skip forward here, because i don't want you to feel like you're, seeing the same thing for 22 years. Okay. So this is what it looks like once. It is complete across the top of the head i'll, go ahead and show you the braiding pattern on both sides and then from there i'll show you exactly where the parting space will be so from point of view. That'S it there and we'll come on back over and the parting space. Is this space right here between these two braids? So that's where her part will be everything else is going to be standard crocheted, but that one will be different. So you'll understand why that's important here momentarily from there i'm going to go ahead and combine two braids and we're going gon na braid this down and across her nape, i'm gon na add a little bit of hair in there as well just to help it hold A bit better because her nape is the shortest area, and i just want to make sure that it holds really well so adding in hair can increase the longevity of your style. Now. This is not the crochet hair that i'm braiding in this is just uh. Some spare braiding hair we had in the house, but you can use the crochet hair for that as well. I'M also going to begin connecting and you saw how i threw that braid up there so basically braid the the hair down once you have the tail on there, you're going to go ahead and feed that tail up into the next braid. So i have this one, a little bit slower just so that way you can kind of see what's going on here, but basically i'm just combining my two braids up here, we're beginning to braid them down and then, as we do so, i'm gon na pick up This braid and braid it right on in so uh. You just treat it like it's the hairs on the scalp and you can see if i run out here on the bottoms. I just add it in and that way we can kind of create the bulk in the center of her head, where her head would naturally be larger anyway, that way, it doesn't look lumpy or bumpy when it's finished, so this is really crucial. Once we have completed with that, this is how it is looking and i'm just going to rubber band the ends of the section that is complete. Now, of course, you can braid past the ends of the hair, with some artificial hair and burn the ends, but allison doesn't wear anything for a very long time. So i just don't see the sense in going through all that from there i'm going to stitch it up and i'm using a light, color thread, so you can easily see, but don't worry, it is going to be covered up. If you want to make sure that nothing shows you can use a darker color, and here i'm just - i slowed it down a lot. So that way you could see. What'S going on how to add this in so i'm going to slide the hook up underneath the braid grab, just a small amount of hair and we're going to put the hair through now, you want to do this a couple of times so take that loop and Twist it bring it back through and we're going to do it at least one more time. I'M super slick here. I sometimes do this anywhere between four and six times so the more tight the coil is or the curl is. The less you'll have to do this, but it's a minimum for me usually of three knots. Okay from there i'm going to speed up just a little bit, and i want you guys to see it one more time and then i'm going to speed back up to the advanced speed that you saw before. So you don't have to place these like back to back, if you actually, if you do that a lot of times, it just ends up way too bulky and it looks really wicky. So i'm not a huge fan of placing them right on top of each other. So usually i do them i'd say about maybe a centimeter apart from each other or like close to a quarter of an inch apart from each other um so yeah. So you can see the end of that one knotted up. So i'm not even gon na fool with it, because i want to make sure her hair is not knotting and looking frizzy, but uh. We'Re just gon na continue that process throughout the hair, uh and just kind of get her taken taken care of get these together. Once we've complete those you'll kind of see, this is how they'll lay here and i'm just going to move forward. That way, you guys can see in the back, especially i'm not taking it over the whole braid, i'm bringing it through one piece of the braid, and this allows you to not have a ton of sliding. It also allows you to use your space well so feel free to space these out. If you need to and then when you get to the end, if you feel like, i could use a little bit more thickness. Add the thickness where you think you need it, because, if you're putting these back to back, especially throughout the back of the head, it's going to be super bulky really heavy and hot, and you just don't want that. Moving around to the other side, i'm showing you this here, because i want you to see really well how far apart i'm spacing them and also how i'm brick laying them. So basically, one knot falls perfectly between the two knots before it and it just helps the style to look a lot more, full, less gapped and less spacey um so yeah. I hope that makes sense to y'all, if not you'll, be able to see here in just a moment. So this next clip here uh i'll, go ahead and show you like, where i'm doing it right in between the other knots before so right here directly in between those two knots, and it just makes it look more full uh, you don't see so much of the Braids, so this is what it's looking like here: i've got it slowed down again, because i want you guys to see, especially on top is a little bit better of a view exactly how this works so taking the latch hook through grabbing the loop pull the hair Through the loop twist, the loop pull through again twist the loop again and basically, however many times you feel like you need to uh. I usually do it three to four times um with this. Like i said, if the hair is more silky, you could do it up to like six times and then from there. I just lay it down now. This is the area where i'm doing her invisible part. So this is her parting space, so it's a little bit different. We'Re gon na go ahead and pull through, and i'm gon na grab the loop, we're gon na separate out just one of those two strands and pull that through the loop. Now this takes a little bit more time, so feel free to slow down just get this right twist the loop and pull that one strand through again then twist and pull through again. So basically the same amount that you would do for your knots. But now you are doing it with just one strand and we'll just pull on both of those, and basically it allows for that top strand to slightly cover the braid. Now you can lay it down with a little bit of heat a blow dryer, something like that. We did not do that again, because allison doesn't ever wear anything for a long time, but i will say the longer you plan on wearing your crochet braids is smaller. These two braids should probably be and the closer together they should probably be. It just allows for a more seamless look and it makes it look like you're not going to land a plane in there, because the further apart those braids are baby. You could take the whole tribe of the children of israel through that parting space. If you're, not careful anyway, so this is it once it's complete here and now we got to get into cutting, because this is really long. So first allison said she wanted some layers and we layered it, and it just still felt a little bit too much. His hair was just much longer than we anticipated. So we're going to cut it a couple times and you can let us know in the comments below which length you prefer on allison um, but i'll tell you. We ended up going for more of a stack bob just because it's honestly easier to maintain - and this is summer in texas - it is literally 108 degrees outside right now, y'all, like team, entirely too much okay. So you can see here we're looking in the mirror. I'M kind of talking to her about what it is that she's wanting to see out of it, and at this point she is deciding that she wants it more like a stack bob. So i go in and begin creating that shape. For her and honestly, i just like the way that this flatters her facial features. It still gives a youthful type of look to it and it's still something that she can pull up if she doesn't want to be bothered with it on her face or on her skin things like that so yeah. Let me know what y'all think in the comment section down below and then this last little bit it's going to be her kind of talking to me about maintenance and us doing the outro, like it's regular, hair and put some hairspray in it. You can hairspray it and foam it. You just can't put a massive degree of heat in it. You know how it goes. Oh you remember. When um, when i first started coming to you, do my hair used to always just hand me a comb. Yes, i do that with all hair, stylists really they're, the worst clients, if you don't do stuff like that, they don't feel comfortable all right, glam fam. So we are totally finished with allison's hair i'll go ahead and get some angles and shots, and all of that, and that way you guys can let us know what you think and um yeah just leave it down in the comment box down below alison, you got Anything you want to say no, i'm telling you worst client ever she's been like just lightly trim it. I don't know layer it yeah. I think i want to stack bob leave it this long in the front, no shorter, it's yeah. This is why we don't cut each other's hair, much because it's so much strain. Okay, so i'll get some shots and all that until next time you guys take care. God bless and stay glam. You know we love you! Boo, bye, bye! You

Does this same base work for a style like locs? I struggle with braiding her hair because it IS so thick. Smaller braids take so much hair for crochet. Any suggestions? Thanks for always sharing your craft! ❤️
