1940S Vintage Updo Tutorial For Naturally Curly Hair | Atomic Amber

Aloha, peaches! Welcome back to my channel! The home of retro lifestyle, beauty & hair videos by myself, Amber Rose. I am a mumma to Matilda-Mae and blogger on www.atomicamber.com.

Today's video is another one for all my curly sues out there! There really isn't much at all for us frizzy babes out there in the vintage scene so my mission is to change that! I have always been a girl (unfortunately like most of us!) who resents their hair or likes it but just never embraces it because most girls who you see on Instagram etc don't have flyaways or frizz, but I say LOVE YOUR FRIZZ!!!!! Work with it not against it.

This video is a 1940's inspired up do which is super easy, simple and quick... Much like all my tutorials!

Hi everybody today, I'm going to be showing you how to achieve this hairstyle on naturally curly hair, I'm sorry about the random setup and the kind of busy background. I know it's probably really annoying and distracting, but it's dark outside, and I really really wanted to run this video, and this was the only place that I could get a decent light. So I hope you enjoy and it doesn't detract from the video too much right. So this is my hair in its natural state. All you need to this style is quite a few bobby pins and hair accessory, feel toys and also a hair tie. If you wanted to do the shimmy on at the back, so let's get started. My mirror is just here, so I'm sorry if it's a bit annoying me looking to the side, but I have no other option. So first thing you want to do is just grab a section. I just go kind of where my hair naturally separates, so that I don't have to break up the curl too much, because that's what causes frizz and all you want to do is basically doing really simple victory. Roll and another great thing about curly hair is safe. Actually, really really really easy to do. Victory rolls on curly hair, obviously they're not going to look as kind of neat and perfect as they would if we were to do them on like a set, but they have the volume and texture that you would need to get from back combing. If you did have kind of smooth straight hair, so all I do is just get my thumb like this and just wrap it round and just work the hair down, and that's all you want to do it's literally that simple, so just grab your hair. I'M sorry! I'M from across, like so I'm trying to look at two things so grab your hair and just wrap. You wrap your thumb around like this and carry on walking it down and the hair. She can actually fold itself around your thumb, and then all you want to do is just pin that in place now, one of the bad things about cutting hair is that it literally eats bobby pins. Well, mine does at least I can make sure you have a hundred button pins hidden in my hair. It'S curly, and I do need quite a few - to keep my styles in place here going on there. So, for this style of Fringe is really going to help. You a lot because it's a lot easier to pin down shorter hair, you can do if you don't have one, and so we need to do is just grab your friend or your bangs or whatever, and get that out the way and just kind of just tip Those out the way and then same again on this side just grab your hair, where there kind of curls, naturally separate and exactly the same, just another victory. Well, so we need to do is just sorry, the few finders in the mirrors I'm just trying to make sure if I'm sure, I'm such an amateur, I do apologize, but I hope you kind of get the idea what I'm gon na do. They just grab your mother, get your thumb and just wrap your hair around and, as you wrap do you carry on walking down. The hair should naturally wrap itself around into the hunnit into a barrel. Roll so wrap it round. Another thing: that's awesome about curly. Hair is that you're never going to end up with holes, because you know what the motto is: mole's my holes and then just pin that in place right. So once you have your two little rolls secure there. All you want to do is just get your fringe and now there's a few things you can do with your fringe here and obviously you do some bumper things or you could do a side roll. You could do whatever you wanted, but for this one I really love to look up the little kind of calaf luff in between the rolls, and I think because I have my own natural curl fluff. I might as well utilize it, and then all you want to do is just get your fringe and kind of just squash it down. Really you just. I just started putting a few bobby pins in just to kind of hold down most of it so yeah. So all you want to do is usually create your kinda little curl puff there. Now with the back, you can also just leave it down. I think it looks a really lovely just stand as it is, do a loose plant. You can do pigtails, you can do whatever you want. My personal favorite is a little ching-yuen back on the roll and what I like to do for this is just grab the rest of my hair and get a hair type and just loosely at that. Hair tie in show you that and just drag it to the end of your hair, like that, and all that's going to do is just help with the rolling process. All you want to do is just use that hairband of the base for your roll, so just kind of tuck it under and obviously this depends on the length of your hair and literally just fold it around like that. The headband does really really help keep everything in place and then just pop the pupil be pins in again you can just leave it as it is, but of course, I'm not going to I love to add little hair flowers to the front of this style. I just feel like it has such an authentic feel to it, and I've got these two little tiny ones. I think these are pop hnm hnm do actually have quite a lot of really pretty hair flowers, especially little dainty ones like this, which can be quite hard to find a lot of the time. And then you just put your accessories wherever you want. You'Ll start pretty much done. It is a quick and easy one, just like all of my tutorials, this starrwood amazing, with a snit, so all you would do is basically do the same, which is hooker slid over and just pin that your hair also a smooth and hair, as if amazing to You all and I'll just quickly show you back, that's all there is to it. I really hope you enjoyed this video and again, I'm sorry for the probably slightly blown out lighting and the crazy background, but I just really wanted to get this video out there. For you, if you did enjoy this video, please like and subscribe, and if you have any video suggestions or recommendations, leave them in the comments below as I'd love to hear them, and I'm always open to new ideas.
