I watch a video from means by mel means: 5 ml. She made a video in like 2018 on how to cut your bangs. Sir, are we doing this again so today, i'm gon na be cutting some little wispy bangs. I don't know if i would ever describe curly hair bangs as wispy, okay, anyways, what's good everybody, it's yamane girl, mel, professional hairstylist and lover of curls as a curly hair specialist. Today i want to share some of my expert tips and mistakes that i frequently see on some of you that are diy. Cutting the following hair tips: i'm going to share, apply to all hair types and textures, especially applying to dry curl by curl, hair cutting and specifically, for this video we're going to be talking about bends, a curl fringe curtain, bangs, wispy, bangs, full bangs bangs with benefits And bangs with regretfulness - and you know no one's even saying that you have to do this yourself. These tips will still be helpful to you if you plan on seeing a professional just so you know how to prepare your hair, how to wear and anything else. So you're not scared i'll, be sharing what to do and what not to do when styling your face framing bits so without further ado, let's cut into it. The first mistake that people make is not pre-styling the bang. Your first step before cutting your bangs should be styling the area you need to preset the hair in the position that it's going to lay and set in the density when you're styling section how full you want your bangs to be starting with an inch around the Perimeter of your face working in sections that mimic the way the hair will lay if your hair is falling vertically, your sections should lay vertically and when you're pre-styling your bangs, don't do anything too fancy. If you always finger coil your hair, then you should finger coil. This section that way, you can see how it lays, but if you're more of a wash and go a denman brush a rake and squeeze or a simple scrunch, whichever way you usually style, your bangs is how you should do it just facing forward. You should dry them how you usually dry them as well. The number two thing i don't want you to do is take too much, which, as many of us know, can happen if we're cutting the hair wet or, if we're putting a lot of tension on the hair without experience. Hence why we pull on the curl before cutting it. Putting tension on your curl is going to help. You determine the spring factor, of course, as we're trimming and removing weights from the bangs, they are going to jump up and you can determine how much your hair is going to jump up based on what your spring factor is. My spring factor is almost 50 percent. In my bangs meaning, if i cut one inch, it might jump up about two. So you have to pull on the hair to measure that spring factor, and it's going to help you determine where that hair is laying on your head, which will help you determine which length to cut it on, especially if you're looking for a gradual short to long Curtain fringe situation, and it can also get you a cleaner cut on the ends. For example, if you cut a curl as it is, laying without any tension versus when you apply a little bit of tension, measure the spring factor and then finally cut in the middle of the curl, where you see fit, you will get much cleaner ends. With your cut, which will keep it looking good even for your next wash, which we know will probably look vastly different than this wash and in general, is a better way to keep your ends. Nice and full speaking of full number. Three please take enough hair, even if we're going for the wispy bang look which does exist whatever bangs you're, creating should blend into the rest of your layering so make sure you're connecting your fringe. Not only is this going to help blend the bangs, but it's going to help open up your face and it can give you a look without adding too many layers. If you don't like layers throughout your hair, however, a good layer will always look better. If you want a nice heavy bang, so the more bangs you have the more layers you should have throughout your hair, just for the optimal blend and we've got tons of layering tutorials. For you on this channel number. Four. We need to check our work. Is the hair even and how's it going to look on the next wash? Well, if there's one thing, i can tell you it's that your bangs will almost always need a little adjusting and that's okay, it's better to do that after it's been rewashed, so you can reassess and add the little final finesse. This is why you should first cut the bangs in dry. Then you go in re-wash or just refresh the bang areas, so you can determine how they spring up and then adjust as needed. Now you can also check your work, while the hair is wet. Just make sure there's no random stragglers, but that's just me. I do that because i know how the curls are going to react. You don't necessarily have to do that, but don't feel like a failure. If you have to go back in and make a couple adjustments because same but five listen to me, this is such an important tip that no one considers, although i mentioned it in last year's very thorough guide to cutting your curtain, banks, which you can go check Out after this, you need to consider your lifestyle are bangs, something that you can commit to right now or is it summer? Are you already sweating and is the bangs just making you break out on your forehead, because that could be happening before you commit to your bangs? Make sure you think it through? If this is for you - and if you fear that you have already made an awful mistake, then don't fear, because there are some very cute hairstyles that you can do during the grow out phase like these. Ah, yes, queen the next thing, you know they've completely grown that all being said. Every hair stylist does things a little bit differently, so don't be shy to ask your hair stylist what their plan to give you bangs really is so that you feel comfortable in their chair, or i mean i've pretty much just always done my own hair and i Hope you feel more confident and empowered to do the same and that you will subscribe if you are new to me, give this video a thumbs up. If you want to see more pro tips - and i look forward to seeing you in each and every texture, tuesday, video until next time, this has been manes by mel and i am out peace. If you plan on cutting your bangs, you should go check out my curtain. Bang video like right now like right after this, it's gon na be right. Here, i'm amanda! I did it. I banged out the youtube video pun intended: bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang

A M: Rant incoming: It's not that he makes mistakes... it's that he consistently refuses to learn and throws ACTUAL curly professionals and women like India under the bus to make himself look better... The girl in his video practically laid out a red carpet for him to learn something from you or give you a shout out but he needed to pull a Mariah ('I don't know her') and act like he knew better so he can hoard hair video views. I used to be able to still enjoy him for bleach/color fails but every time he opens his mouth about curly hair it makes it harder... UGH.

luckyDancer100: Brad is not exactly a curl expert lmao. He’s definitely a sleek, straight, blow dry kind of guy.

Daniela: I literally just watch Brad Mondo for entertainment. Love him, but don't take his advice when it comes to my curly hair. That's why I come here. For Mel and Amanda❤️

mishal butt: Brad mondo is so annoying. He literally has no knowledge of curly hair yet he always seems to have an opinion

Maria Banuelos: Brad styles for the Barbie Dolls with straight hair. Mel is for the Curly Goddess and God's. There's a big difference! Not even on the same level.

misses elise: brad mondo is a liar but blocks everyone who tries to call him out. i still don’t think he has ever talked about how he got caught knowingly lying about one of his products being vegan and cruelty free

Barbara Araneda: Sooo glad to know I'm not the only one who rolls her eyes every time Brad Mondo gives an opinion on curly hair...

A.J. Sykes: I haven’t watched Brad since his disapproval of curly hair girls detangling our hair wet with conditioner

Bacon Cheese Pizza: Korean curly girl here ive watched brad's videos when i didnt know my fuffy hair is actually curly and now i religiously follow mel's methods. I love brad too but watching brad's videos about curly hair feels like watching a random white guy runs a korean restaurent. He just need to admit that when it comes curly, he is not the expert.

maddwitch: This gave me a flashback to the time I took my daughter to get her first haircut. Despite my warning about how curly the front of her hair got, the stylist cut her bangs right at brow level. Poor child had a roll of hair at her hairline.

Lolofunslayer: I will never forget the time Brad mondo said to brush curly hair dry. He had no idea what he is talking about when it comes to curls, it’s pretty hilarious that he acts like he’s a curl expert.

Tiff Mullen: I love when you correct brad. I don't understand how he's got so many subscribers bc he really just laughs at people's mistakes instead of helping us through it. you and hair budda are my favorite you tube hair channels. you help so many people and your super kind about everything. never change ❤ thank you for all you do for us non stylist and thank you for being kind and caring.

Angiolina Pinto: Lol, he cannot accept he made a mistake. Despite the fact, we all with curly hair agree completely with you. He's such a toxic diva

sharkitty: I'm a hairstylist, and a large portion of my knowledge has come from Mell. I'm now a curly hair specialist

Sophia Aloeristok: Not again, this man needs to learn a thing or two about curly hair before he opens his mouth my GOODNESS. Thank you for being a great resource and expert for us curlies ❤

grace: Some people like you, Mell, are saving people's curly heads. For free! Others are highly opinionated and loud even though they don't have the proper knowledge or experience. I'm thankful for you. I pretend to not see the rest.

The Garden Geek: It might be nice to show an “alternative curly styles” slideshow-like people who rock a curly SHORT bang, or curly mullet, etc. Hairstyles that go against the rules but still work somehow :) Love your channel!

Jenn Leah: Brad Mondo is sooooo Jealous of Mell & it's sooooo sad Any video he's done on curly hair has hundreds of comments from curlies saying he doesn't know what he's talking about so now he comes for Mell

Steff L: lol all the Brad defenders in the comments. You, Mell, are the hands-down godDESS of curly hair. I'd come to terms with mine more and more over the years, and we were doin' okay together. But then I watched just two (2!) of your videos and leveled up SO MUCH!! Ever grateful to you and gonna go search for a video from you on dusting.

sccorde: Hey seesters, I would LOVE to see a video on "professional" hairstyles for curly hair. All too often I feel like my curls are seen as "unprofessional" and feel like I either need to wear my hair in a bun, braid, or straightened to make myself look professional :(

Illogic_ally: I really wish Brad Mondo would yass Queen his way out of the beauty world already. It’s so fucking shady to ‘react’ to literal professionals when he KNOWS he has extremely limited experience in the things he knows, let only any hair that isn’t bleach blonde and dead straight.

SM: Brad gives major i think curly hair is ugly/unprofessional vibes if i recall correctly he found it ridiculous that any bride wuld wear their hair curly on their wedding day instead of straightening it as if curly hair for a wedding wuld be so ugly and such a sin

Emily: I used your tutorial when I realized my wispy bangs were cute, but I wanted them a little heavier. My stylist did the wispy. I appreciated her doing that. We can always add more. I’ve used the principles many times. You make them easy to apply elsewhere. Not to mention to cut my bangs when I let them grow way too long. And I LOVE my bangs. Personally speaking, I think Mondo knows if he says Manes by Mell, the curlies are coming for him with tangle teasers in one hand & strong hold gel in the other. Someone needs to untangle his lies, then make sure he cannot get out of place. .He might not get followers, but he gets views comments. I’ve never liked that tactic. Mell, you & Amanda have your followers because of the content, & even more so, your hearts. Yes, this is your career, but you chose it so you could help others we can get a lot of curly hair advice, but not your hearts, not with your knowledge, with your personalities, and not with your style of teaching. This comes from your heart, not just something you two do & it shows. You truly are Hair for us. I’ll never forget the one DM you sent me in reply to a question. You told me the next day you were going to post a new cut & it could work. It was the universe cut. I actually borrowed from pigtails, your unicorn & universe to get the look I wanted . wanted. I desperately need it colored & highlighted. I sent my stylist a pic. Even with bad lighting she said how healthy it was & noticed tighter curls. This is all thanks to you both.

Priscila Bee: I gasped when the girl said she was cutting her bangs after watching a Manes by Mel video. If she had watched properly, she would have done a good job!

Deanna: Happy Texture Tuesday!! Can't wait to watch!! Brad mondo has no knowledge of curly hair and to be honest he's really annoying!! Much love and happiness!! Xoxo

Kaki Clements: This is the first time I’ve heard Mel (or any curly expert) talk about curly hair methods that are “less than perfect” (wash and go, Denman brush, rake and squeeze), and it was really validating. Thanks for making me feel seen and less like a curly failure, Mel!

mishaila: i can’t believe someone with a missundaztood haircut is critiquing anybody with curly hair. do better. mel’s advice has saved my hair and i couldn’t be more grateful. thank you queen!

Kaitlyn Wonders: Love you! Brad literally says one thing in one video, then the next, it’s completely different and goes against what he just said. He doesn’t have it all together.

Jess’ Corner: Hasn’t his “expertise” been debunked before? You’re really the only person I trust when it comes to the curly gorls

HopeJstone: WAIT | Taking a moment before the video starts to check in with myself "You will NOT cut bangs simply because you're bored and they look so great on Mel!" ... I always regret changing my hair but LOVE curly bangs on others!

Gabrielle Goubran Sprinkle: The unicorn and pigtail cuts changed my life!! One thing though is I have SO much hair that sometimes I feel like my crown is still too heavy after cutting.. any tips on removing more weight back there (on your own head)?

Claudine Mabasa-Barcebal: Let’s see who would you think curly girls would believe? Guy who I don’t even know how he’s even credible with a straight hair or a PROFESSIONAL who explains everything better than anyone, also explains the science behind everything and someone who actually has a curly hair? Surprise surprise. We go with mel. You’ve helped so many curly girls! You are a blessing to the Curlies (curly girlies) we love you❤️

Carliani Milz: Ive always cut my own hair (wrongly ) Ever since I came across this channel I’ve continued to do it, and ALL the tips that ✨Mel✨ gives have NEVER failed. She actually EXPLAINS what to do and more importantly WHY. Also, makes a lot of sense. You have to know what and why you’re doing and definitely my hair has never looked better. Thanks Momma Mel

Christina: Mell & Amanda, your DIY videos got my hair through the pandemic. I am back with my stylist but I will still occasionally snip some curls around my face without fear thanks to you. Love all your videos!

The Crystal Pearl: Mell, this was so fun to watch! I do my own hair as well & theres nothing like taking control of your curls!

M Rence: Tell him Mel! I’m glad my Mom taught me how to cut my own hair since I was 16! I’m 60 now, and I love my curly hair, because of you!

Natia Karchava: Your tips are wonderful and extremely helpful. I have a daughter with tight curls, she's 3 and wild, so there is no salon anywhere near me that is experienced in curly hair and with kids. So DIY is an only option

Tria Medrano: I do not trust Brad Mondo with hair at all tbh. ESPECIALLY after finding out no one can find his portfolio anywhere

Lauren Disney: I knew this was coming when I saw his video! He should stick to what he knows: straight hair and bleaching/coloring hair. He's incredibly ignorant when it comes to hair with any texture, and constantly shows blatant bias against brunette hair colors. The *only* reason he started half-heartedly complimenting brunettes in videos is because he was called out over dozens of videos about his bias. Ick.

mrahzzz: Thanks for clarifying these tips, Mell!! One tip with all the haircutting vids that I'm interested in having clarified is the whole "comb on the head to determine where to cut the bangs/front section" thing. Where do I set the comb? Hairline? Middle of my head? One inch back? Back a distance depending on the curl circumference? That one has me confused (and may be part of where the first girl you feature in this vid went wrong, what with her tiny section for her bangs), so if you could elaborate a bit/explain it a few different ways next time you do a cutting vid, I'd love that, personally!

Sam F.S.: You guys have literally managed to make a middle part work on curly bangs without looking like Weird Al, I am baffled by Brad's comment.

Naomy r: I did my bangs as mell taught me in her las video and it ended up BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS AND MARVELOUS. it lasted 1 month, then my bang decided she doesn't want to be curly but wavy but it still looks good.

J: Yesssss! The video I needed! My bangs need a good trim! Thanks, Mell!!!

Cheryl Joaquin: I just want Mel to come cut my hair! Trying to find a stylist who has wavy/textured hair experience that actually has an opening is brutal.

Selena Banks: Thank you so much for this video. I am keeping my bangs now!!!

Bhawna Saroha: I take this video as a sign for cutting my own bangs(I cut my own hair) but I'll wait for the summers to end cuz it's HOT here!! Thank you for making the video, Mel! You're amazing!

Lindsey Violet: I would love to see a video about good haircuts versus bad haircuts and how they affect your wavy/curly hair. My hair has simply not been acting right for months now and it’s actually healthier than what it used to be the only thing I can chalk it up to is I don’t have a good properly layered haircut.

karinac1999: I'm not a mondo fan. Especially after that last time he said something about Mell's teachings. Made me see he really doesn't know much. Knowing about one type of hair doesn't make you a professional.

Zoë: I cut my curly fringe(bangs) in February and I was finding stragglers for like a month so don't feel bad if you're the same

Junior Chaves o Picasso de Yahushua: Bloody hell you are literally too gorgeous, Mell. Your curly hair looks so awesome ❤️❤️❤️❤️

That's Chaos, Baby: Hey Mell! Great video Question: is there a resource for finding curly hair specialists in specific regions? I don't have any curly friends in my area, so I would just be going off Google to find a stylist

Desiree Michaels: Just in time. I need to trim my bangs. The detail of checking how much they’ll spring up should help prevent the mistake I made last time - and accidentally ended up with baby bangs.

me: I've been genuinely trying with my really curly hair for 7 years and sometimes it looks good and sometimes bad. I'm so tired of how much money and time it takes and I can't garentee after a three hour wash style dry it will look good. I'm planning to shave my head soon cause I'm just so tired

Ivy Quainoo: Dang, I‘ma continue watching both channels. Brad never said he’s an expert or very versed on curls and Mel is clearly an expert when it comes to curls. ‍♀️

Donna Stapleton: i LOVE u, mell, & I Love Brad. its one thing to simply be different & acknowledge that but know that thats okay & move on. when people i love hate on people i love its a quick way to lose me. :( Its ok that he specifies in dying\bleaching & you CLEARLY are strong in Curly hair care! vs just "hair care" which we ALL now know thousands of yrs later NEVER INCLUDED CURLY HAIR! id rather see you two focus in on where youre strong, similar.

Julissa DC: A good collab would be Mell teaching Brad about Curly hair

Alicia Moore: You share amazing information! I believe you just talked me into bangs.

iSharShar: I got my hair cut, and asked for bangs. I regret it now. She definitely didn't follow any of these steps to cut my bangs, even though she knew how to style my hair because she had curls too.

Chiara B: I love bangs even if they can be pretty difficult, thank you for making this video

Bee Elianae: I’m definitely dealing with the grow out phase….

Anna: My blood pressure goes up every time Brad tries to pretend he knows shit about curly hair. Yikes.

That's Chaos, Baby: Hey Mell! Great video Question: is there a resource for finding curly hair specialists in specific regions? I don't have any curly friends in my area, so I would just be going off Google to find a stylist

Anne Josephine: Mel, you are a QUEEN. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

Piff7: I never leave a salon totally happy with my hair. I want to get good at cutting my own hair. Do you have a playlist of your hair cutting tips? I’m not sure if I need to use a good pair of shears or if I can get a good cut just by following the right technique alone. I want my hair to basically be constant, consistent layering but have always left feeling like my layers aren’t cohesive and keep wanting to grab the scissors but I’ve made my hair worse in the past. Just want to do it right! My hair is almost at my shoulders when curly so I don’t have a lot of room for error!!

Ashlee: Oh God I got such secondhand embarrassment for the wispy bang girl. Love her heart. I wish she had actually listened to you, Mel!

-o- It'sCharli: i realllyyyy needed this!! ive been wanting to frame my face better bc my hair is literally all one length and looks very sad. dont know any curly hairdressers so im resorting to DIY :D

Rachel Fishbein: Xena will always beat Hercules, and Manes by Mell will always beat Brad Mondo. #facts

Leah Bordeaux: Say it with me, Mell is the BEST ❤

Emily: Is Mondo having a hard time selling his curly hair products & needs to attempt to find curlies? She didn’t even do half of what you said to do, starting with the scissors.

Anne Josephine: I dont think that Brad realizes that Mel is deffo one of the best hairstylists out there

Katie Cruz: I got curly bangs last year and have been loving it since

kiska: I live for the ending of each of your videos. (And not because they’ve ended ) They’re hilarious

needlesharp_diamondstrong: Really enjoyed this one. Thanks Mel! Off to search for a grow out video.

Andrea Plummer: Lifestyle is very important! I didn't take it into consideration when I cut my bangs. They turned out fine but it is the beginning of summer and I live on the Texas Gulf Coast...they get pinned back a lot. Maybe I'll try again when it cools off some in November.

Pituca Things: Ha what good tips! I just had my bangs done as well thanks to your inspo

Melina Sica: In a Rachel voice “no curls, no opinion” Can you guess which scene manesbymell fan but also a big friends fan

Myra Coveney: Just gotta say, I REALLY love that brown hair on you I like all of your colors but GOT DANG I love that color!!

Sarah Anne: Brown hair suits you so well - you look stunning!

Caitlyn: I cut the top layer of one side of my layers too short a while back. It doesn’t look bad but how would I fix it in the future?

Melissa: "This hair specialist who focuses on curls doesnt know anything" -the guy who doesnt work with or understands curls but says you should trust him because hes a hair dresser Brad would destroy my hair if he ever had a chance with it

Hailey Sells: Brad makes great content, and you make great content. Apples and oranges baby! You both are cheifs love watching weekly keep up the funny fabulous videos

Lauren Ruiz: I'm trying to grow my bangs out, so this is a dangerous video for me to watch.

DanceGeek: Hairdressers like Brad Mondo are the reason I don't go see a "professional hairdresser" anymore! They may be experts in 'normal' person hair but they just can't admit that us curly queen's are beyond their 'expertise'

Ninjamama: I saw one Brad Mondo video where he said that no matter how long your hair is, you only need to use a quarter size amount of shampoo. ‍♀️

JP: I really want bangs but I also occasionally like to straighten my hair every once in awhile. Does anybody know what a good length would be for that?

dermiker: Soooo, I just think making content specifically "reacting" to people's unfortunate hair incidents is kind of mean spirited. I know they're putting themselves out there by putting it in social media, but still.

Joya Atallah: omg that's me in the first clip i have learned from my mistakes now LMAO i love ur videos!!

GurlInAComa: This is pretty off topic but I am still obsessing over your hair color It’s so pretty !!

Emily: Happy Texture Tuesday!! This is the quickest I have ever clicked on a video!!!! Let’s see what Mr. Mondo has to say now

Susie Stellino: Omg…I loves my Mane Girl Mel and seester Amanda. I just say NO to Mondo…

Mangox: We love Mell and her advice! Bye, haters!

TheIdesofApril: Why does every comment he makes about curly hair feel a little bit racist? There’s no excuse for stylists to refuse to learn about textured hair.

audra m: i feel like i might have curly hair but i’m scared i’ll look weird with it. what should i do?

Imperial Deity: I’ve even had my bangs fucked up by a professional and had to go in and fix it according to your tutorial. Soooooo…. What’s the shade with him? Cuz you have and know how to manage curly hair…. Chiiiile… anyways…. I love you Mel.

Yana Danae: Not him trying to come for you again lol. I think he knows more about other hair types. Mine is kinky curly. I cut my hair to make bangs with your video, they came out great when I styled. So your video was very informative.

Strawberriescream: I hold my scissors tucked in my pinky just like you, the last salon I was at the apprentice (who was 5years older) was very jealous of me and wanted me to teach her how to hold and flick them out, just thought it was funny she wanted nothing to do with me till I had a skill she wanted to learn hmmmm

aikanae1: Me: can you cut curly hair? Hairstylist: yes. How do you curl your hair? Me: I don't. I want to keep my natural curl. Hairstylist: (crickets)

Claire Campbell - Hey Blondie!: You’re just the most wonderful and competent hooman

Nicole Langford: Mom and dad fighting is getting so awkward lol but I feel like I have to side with mom because she knows my hair lol

Crissy Poo: Hey Mell, can you show a tutorial on your stories or here for those with thin fine hair but are curly girls??? Pls & ☺️ thx
