What'S going on YouTube Stephen, a salon guy here and today's video is going to be focused on thick hair, so what I want to do is I want to really break down for you guys. You know what I think is gon na be helpful for you. So you get much more value out of it. So let's talk about thick hair, okay, thick hair comes at all, you know shapes and sizes and forms and stuff you could have. You know thick hair. You could have ethnic hair, you know Asian Caucasian, it doesn't really matter. I mean hair thickness is all a matter of density right and also the texture itself. You can have a lot of hair and have very fine hair, but having really really thick hair could be very challenging for a lot of people, and the reason is is because it's usually very heavy and thick hair has a tendency just a way down flat and Also not have a lot of movement, and that seems to be an issue for a lot of people, so what hair cuts work best for thick hair now, let's talk about men first, so first style like this right. Obviously this is a bit longer. If this hair was all one length down through here, it would just be very, very flat. A great option for people with thick hair is a lot of layers. Now you can also have layers and leave some length, but the key is that the hair needs to be cut properly and very, very well balanced, because, even though the hair is thick, what layering does is it removes weight? That'S what actual layering the technique layering. Does it removes excess weight, so it allows your hair to have movement, allows your hair to be able to have some texture, and it also is a lot lighter on your head. Even though you have a lot, it's not just weighing your hair down. So any type of haircut, where you're trying to leave a little bit of length, you need to have layers again, here's another option with having the hair a little bit longer. This is very, very thick hair on this mannequin, but having any sort of layers and texture throughout the hair really helps as far as you know, the thickness of it and any time I do haircuts like this. Usually my client will say: oh my gosh. It feels so much lighter you know, so it depends on where you want to start the layers, because and really the end result that you want and it's up to the stylist to really create that look for you. I can't really tell you what's going to work best for you, you as an individual, because it really comes down to you, but you know anytime, you have some sort of shape where you're removing weight and it's all just hanging down it's gon na be a best Bet for to take care of men, here's another option cut it short. I mean what happens is when the hair is so thick by having less of the hair on your head is actually easier to work with. As you can see, this is all really just shaved. Pretty short into here, this side here is blended in, but the key is is short. Hair is so much easier to style when the hair is thick, because all you need to do is put a little product in run your fingers to it, and it goes right into place. So something like my product, talc or you know, pregame or clutch or any sort of styling product, looks really well on short hair. So you know if the hair drives, you crazy and you feel like it's just way too much cut it short. But what you need to also do is you need to add some texture to it. It can't just be you know one glob of hair at the top of your head. You can use - and I've done a lot of videos on this, where it shows how to texturize kind of shorter hair. But you need to add some sort of movement in through here, so that the hair isn't just one big clump on the top of your head. Here'S another example of you know someone's really really thick hair again. A very short haircut always works best. If the hair just drive you crazy, you want something very, very easy to do and you know again it depends on a styling product. You know by using a gel what that's gon na. Do it's just gon na kind of matte your hair and and make it look kind of like a wet look and you look very stiff. I suggest something a little more modern with some paste something with a little more texture again, even if the hair is a bit short, it'll help change up the style as well. Let'S talk about women's hair now, okay, so this hair is all one length. It'S extremely thick, as you can see into here very very thick, hair and there's a few options you can do for you know thicker hair on if you're a woman by having your hair, all one length I'll, be honest with you in my experience having your hair, All one length, if you do not care about styling it every day, if you really just aren't looking for layers you're like very, very simple, keep your hair one length and make sure you get a trimmed on a regular basis. All right because having the hair one length means it's: gon na lay its flattest and if you have like wavy kind of or thicker hair, obviously or it's frizzier, the the heavier the hair is the more it's gon na lay flatter to your head and the less Chances of it kind of getting all crazy because the hair will weigh itself down so by having the hair one length. It'S the easiest, easiest style. If your hair stick is all you need to do is literally bring it back put in a ponytail and then also, if you are going to you, know, weigh your hair down and it's one length, maybe change it up by changing the part up. You know maybe flip it over a little bit. You can do simple little tricks, a little things that can change up your look without having to get a dramatic haircut. So if you here's all one length, maybe do a deep side. Part now maybe took you know one side behind your ear. You know just change up the way you style it, but having it all one length is very, very low-maintenance when it comes to super thick hair. Alright, here's, the other look, is having the hair heavily heavily layered. Alright, what that's gon na do obviously you're gon na get a lot of volume into here, but when the hair is so thick, usually what I want to do is once the way itself down and lay flat, but by cutting this a bit shorter, you're gon na Get a lot more volume at a lot more texture into here, so you know, have a style that you're embracing the thickness by creating more layers and letting the volume kind of live up in through here and then remove a lot of that weight down into here. Again, like a shag works great for something like that. You know something like a 80s kind of rocker haircut works great on thicker hair, because you know it's allowing the hair to breathe, so to speak, and it's allowing the hair to have a bit more texture and movement. So yes, even though it's thick, it's not like, you don't feel like you have 80 pounds of hair on your head and also you know a few really cool haircuts. You know under cuts. You know. I know I've talked about them in the past, but an undercut is very, very, very easy because you're removing a lot of the excess weight underneath and you're, allowing the hair to just you know, hang over the top of or the sides in the back. You know you're removing a lot of that heaviness so when by removing it, obviously it makes the hair a lot your to manage so undercuts work. Great, disconnected haircuts, work, great Bob's work great! You know you have to just have to be careful that you're not creating a shape on top of a shape. So if you have a very round face and you're creating a haircut and you have already thick hair, that's making you even look fuller or your face. Rounder, you know, that's not really gon na help much so you always have to make sure that you're you're getting your haircut. That is going to be the opposite shape of what you have oval faces. You can pretty much wear anything. You know square face. What you need to do is you need to create a little bit of width. You know down into here or looking to extend the hair a little bit or if it's too round, you want to have a triangular shape. So it's not so round you're trying to really create the opposite of what the person has at your face shape. So with thick hair again a lot of times. You can have really thick hair a tan, a variety of face shapes you just have to make sure that the haircut you're getting is gon na complement that alright and it's gon na be easier for you to manage again. If it's too much hair cut, it short get rid of it. You know, go low-maintenance if you want longer hair, but you want to you know it's too heavy, then get layers, so it really depends on your stylist. You need to talk to your stylist. You need to talk to your barber and ask them what's the best option and if they can't figure out something and get out of that chair and run out and go somewhere else, this will find an expert who knows what the X are talking about. So I hope you found this video helpful. Let me know if you have any questions, don't forget to Like comment and subscribe and I'll see you next time for more videos for the salon. Guy

Bob Keating: I love how we're all moaning about having thick hair ... i bet if we had thin hair we'd still be moaning

MarKiss: Never thought I'd take advice from a bald guy

Cowabunga My Dude: I learned how to give myself that short hair undercut style, I usually twist all my longer hair on top and just start cutting a bit off to get that messy look. Since the sides are buzzcut length you can always resort to just buzzing it all off if you really mess up. Been growing a Corona cut since the pandemic started and it's currently longer than my hair has ever been. Probably going to resort to a undercut ponytail to lose some weight on my head and remove my curvy mullet. I honestly really enjoy experimenting with my own hair and different haircuts, it's the one part of your body you can absolutely demolish by accident and it'll just grow back eventually.

Thadnill: I have learned my lesson to only cut my hair with Japanese or East Asian hair stylists, because they usually understands the texture of my hair and how to handle & style it, I see that they often have asian customers because of that reason.. Side note: Every time that I go to japan, they always know how to handle my thick, straight & coarse hair properly.. <3

Under My Apple Tree: When all "thick hair" tutorials use models with hair that is 3 times thinner than mine :(

GrippeeTV: I really wish I could get blended haircuts or something like this but living in NH I have about zero access to any professional beauty salons lol. Basically my options are undercut or overgrown mess

DancerZE: - “This is very, very thick hair.” - *looks exactly like my hair* - me: :o

Mango: I’d say my hair is pretty thin and decent amount of flow but I just wanted to say you’re awesome man. I recently bought your shampoo and 25 spray and it’s AMAZING. It’ll be pretty awesome if I could get a cut from you! You’re awesome man keep it up

Austin Fischer: What would you suggest cut and product wise for someone like me whose growing their hair out long, but has very thick, coarse, and dry hair?

Deborah Sayer: Seriously..having thick hair myself... having it all one length would just result in a really flat crown, and a lot of volume in the end. Aka, the triangle effect. Undercuts and/or thinning, is so necessary on a regular basis for one length or bob hair cuts- if you have thick hair.

omg omg: thank you so much for the advice, i love my thick hair but never knew how to style it lol

The Deadly Tikka: No product has ever been strong enough to keep my hair up for more than an hour or 2

Suh Dude: Shouldve watched this video instead of jumping the gun shaving all of my 14+ inch hair. The first doll is exactly what I want to strive for, looks so good.

Thadnill: This why i always tend to search for hair stylists who knows how to handle asian hair / asian/japanese hair trends, it's basically fashion made for people with thick hair

Glen: I like the rockstar and first 2 hairstyles, but I’m unsure whether it would look good with my round face, plus I already have a lot of flyaways at the top of my head.. ): Sometimes I think of getting in touch with a hair stylist and sending them a picture of my face just so they can decide what would look best on me.. lol. Especially since we’re in the middle of a pandemic..

Ultimately Melissa: Thick hair? "CUT IT OFF! GET RID OF IT!" Nooooooooooo! I wish salons had 'Thick Hair specialists!' Most are afraid of my head. I've only had two , in 20 years, who took command and knocked it out of the park. *sigh*

Pascal We: i have alot of hair AND thick hairs, every barber mentions it. I find it really hard to style most of the time

carl louie dela cruz: Wait till you see my hair, and youll know what THICK hair means

Luann Nielson: Hello, you are an awesome teacher!

Callum Doyle: Short hair is easy for thick hair , yeah tell that to the tuffs of hair I have after waking up that refuse to go down

the fist: Even with short hair, my hair is to thick to do anything with.

Aubatron: "Thick hair tends to lay down flat" Please tell that to my goddamn hair. I gotta constantly cut it or it puffs up into a giant afro and is impossible to style. It's not even curly hair either...

Chef: I have very very thick hair and have an undercut so it's very hard to maintain. so I have decided to grow my hair out on the sides ( similar to the first haircut you shown ) I have been growing the sides out for a month now so it's roughly an inch I am thinking of growing it for 4 months to have 4 inches of hair on the sides and 6 on the top ANY TIPS

ninaadark18 Williams: Thanks you are great man I understand alot of things now For sad I damaged my hair then have a hair loss

maria: I've just cut my thick hair into a long bob and this is making me miss my longer hair

Derick Arnold: I have thick frizzy hair. I kinda wanna grow it out and get a perm but since I have frizzy hair, I feel like it wouldn’t work out and the perm would like go away in a month.

Patsy Martin: The problem I’m having is teachers are not teaching this style anymore. No matter what I ask for I get a certain cut. That’s all their hands know how to cut. They are busy talking a mile a minute and kenetic memory takes over. So I bought a pair of shears and a book. I can give myself a bad hair cut for free until I learn. This has worked well. Shag works well for me. Thanks for your video.

Fernando Fernando: He guides others to a treasure he cannot posses

Foolish Specialist: Would a textured crop top look good on a guy with thick and curly/wavy hair?

Sean Buckley: My hair literally grows straight up it’s so THICCC

Garren Engel: I have fine wavy hair but this was intresting to watch

Knee Grows: I’m trying to grow my hair out how the first mannequins is. Top of my head is sitting at about 5 1/2 inches and sides are at least 1 1/2 inch. How would I have to cut it for it to grow out like that?

Nathanbhh -: Does anybody know how to get the first style because I’ve been wanting that hair forever

Chrollos Arm: What’s the 2nd hairstyle and what length does it have to be ? I have thick straight hair though

Daredragon Targaryen: how about for thin long hair or fine hair

Ramzi Khoury: Liked the "avoiding a dramatic haircut"... Haha.. And "80 pounds on your head".. Thank you again.. BTW nice t-shirt..

Killculator: 2:18 thats actually really close to how my hair looks just a bit more dark brown

That one guy who mains Zofia.: Now with this damn virus breakout I haven't been able to cut my hair so I look like harry styles

Logan☆: I’m going to grow my hair out now

Stijn: Does "thick" in this video refer to having lots of hair or having coarse hair?

DRIZZLE: Hey how do I get my hair like the one with the first mannequin it looks nice

Ankur Deb Nath: can i tie up my hair into a man bun in the first haircut. It looks cool. Iam currently growing out my hair im going for the steve harrington haircut but the front hair seems to be short.
