Doctor K

Hello, it's Dr K here, and I am back with another video we're going to be talking about hair products and ingredients that you need to avoid. So I am a doctor of Behavioral Health and my whole goal is to help especially black women, but really everyone to change their behavior so that they can improve their overall life and their health outcomes. And especially since black women face a lot of unique challenges, especially when it comes on to you know, accessing hair products and different things. That is why my focus is on black women. So today we're going to talk about a classic one, that I know we all love, and I love it too, but I just need to expose this real quick, so it's called Eco Styler gel all the black women know this is this is the stuff it actually Does work and I do like it - I do like how it helps my hair to look and like the curl pattern and everything, and it just like, holds everything in place which is really hard to find with our type of hair. But I must say, the ingredients are just not good, and I just it's just not worth it um. These ingredients are considered endocrine disruptors, which, what like that does basically in civil terms, is it throws off your hormones and when your hormones are thrown off, it kind of like messes up everything, so you'll start to notice changes in your body, and you know that might Contribute to like weight gain, it could also cause like uterine fibroids. Breast cancer, which is very our all conditions, are very prominent black woman and so from the research. It has shown that these are chemicals that have been linked with these um conditions, and so I just want you guys to know. You know, of course, still go ahead and use a product if you want to use it, but I just want you to be aware of the harms that it may have on your health and if you are having health problems, maybe try to cut these things out. I'M not trying to scare you, though, so I'm going to come and show you guys Replacements of products and maybe a product that does the same thing, but it just is not as toxic. So some of the ingredients just like - let's let's get into it, so always check the ingredients list guys and so water, fine carbamer, treslonamine, oh yeah, okay, I'm not going to go through all those, but the ones that I really want you to um look out for Are fragrance so whatever it says, fragrance palfer perform what I want to call it or like yellow five. Those are those are things that you really want to void and especially when it says fragrance, because fragrance is basically something that they use to mask toxic chemicals. So they won't actually put the actual chemical that they use for the fragrance. And so that's kind of like a huge red flag to avoid um there's other. There are other ingredients as well like yellow five yellow all those ones avoid those at all costs. But I would really say, like pal firm, is very, very um common and so you're like oh yeah, it's natural, but it says palfernet or fragrance just like it's probably not so that's all I have today, but on the next video I'll get into more details.
