You'Re watching 13 on your side, we begin tonight with new information on a story we first reported in earlier newscasts stylists in east grand rapids, don't have jobs after the state shut down the salon they worked at today. The owners did tell employees. The salon will be closing, but not this soon 13 on your side's nate belt joins us with the latest at juliette. The owners of foyle hair salon told employees that the business would be closing next week. That'Ll change today, however, when the department of licensing and regulatory affairs shut it down, saying they have no record of the salon ever being licensed, my license could get pulled for working somewhere. I mean that's infuriating. Emily lemarese worked at foyle, hair salon previously with andy blum. Caitlin balder and kaylee palace none had any idea. The business was unlicensed, i mean what, if state board came and just shut you down today like we have kids, i can't not have a job. A spokesperson from lara tells us foils owners, ross and chelsea ruiz were licensed for a salon in grand haven. However, that license expired in 2019.. Lara says there is no license on record for any other location, including the one in egr. In a statement, the ruizas call it an honest business mistake saying in part we were never formally educated on owning a business. Prior to this, we never went to college for it due to our lack of experience with owning a business. We were uneducated on the requirements and importance of re-inspection inspection for our second location and renewal. On top of that, they say they took on more business than they could handle. Baldur agrees. Our space is getting smaller. We have to share more of our space with other people and then continue to raise our rent that led to foil being evicted from its property, which was to happen june 24th before lara shut it down early. But they didn't tell any of their stylists that up until this past sunday they were hiring in their statement. The ruizes say we let our team know as soon as we knew our leasing company's final answer. They go on to say we truly cared about all of our stylists and clients. We are so sorry for the mistakes we have made during the trial and error process of owning a salon. The same owners also owned peach body bar in spring lake, which lara says had no record of being licensed either that business closed in january 2022.. Lara couldn't comment any further because of an ongoing investigation. Julia nate. Thank you.

Your BFF Tiff: That explanation is nothing but bs. Every business owner knows that when you apply for a license for a business that you will have to renew at some point. That’s common sense. They don’t care.
