Hello darlings, i just wanted to say before we get into the tutorial. Thank you so much for over 40 000 subscribers. I just can't even believe it. Thank you so much thank you to every single one of you and yeah, i'm just so glad you're here. So, thank you very much and without further ado, let's get straight into the tutorial pink hello results in a very different style. Then foam rollers, foam rollers, you have lots of waves and the curls are really really tight, but pink hells. It'S a lot looser and it turns into a bit more of a page boy, depending on how long your hair is so because i have recently cut my hair, it's a little bit more curly and the curls are a little bit tighter. But when you have longer hair, it's a lot smoother on top and rolling under at the bottom, all right, let's get into it, you're going to need some water or setting lotion, a comb, a hair brush and some bobby pins or pin curling clips. I like to paint how my hair after it's been freshly washed, so it's lovely and clean and can last for many days since my hair does curl very easily. I can get away with using just a water spray on my hair to dampen it. But if you do have naturally very straight hair - and you know it is a bit difficult to curl - i would recommend a setting lotion and this is going to help hold your curls for as long as possible. When you first start pin curling, it can be a little bit difficult, but the best piece of advice i can give you is to really just take your time and there is no rush trying to get this hairstyle done. Make sure you don't do it late at night and just yeah take your time with slowly rolling the pin curl up to the top of your head and pinning that in place, and these are going to be lying flat because we're going to be putting a little Scarf over the top to sleep in, i like to make my pink curls about the width of my finger and we're going to be doing three rows all around the head and a tip with the setting lotion or water. You only want to spray the section that you're working with at the time, because otherwise, if you spray all over your hair, it will dry by the time that you get around to it. Now, if you start rolling your pin, curl and it doesn't seem to want to stay and it comes undone, that's probably because the ends aren't wet enough for the setting lotion or water, and your section may also be too thick. So make sure that you have quite a small section. The ends are thoroughly damp and you should be able to pinch that together and roll that up really slowly and you're, going to be repeating this all around for three rows and all of the curls are facing towards the front one side done now on to the Next side and remember to spray your sections as you go now with the front section, i'm going to be having my fringe on the right side of my head. So i'm going to roll these pink holes up like the other ones, except instead of lying flat against the head. These are going to be standing up with the bobby pin just securing them onto the top of my head. The stand up, pin curls allow for a little bit of extra volume by the time it comes to brushing it all out. I'M creating four stand up pink curls on the very top of my head and the rest will all be lying flat against my head. As i go, i do like to spritz my hair with a little bit of water once the curls are in place just to make sure that that's giving it extra hold. Now, with my fringe section curled, i can go ahead and curl three sections. Like the other side now, this is what your hair should look like all curled. It might be a little bit messy, but just as long as all the ends are tucked in, so that it's going to be perfectly curled by the morning and make sure to give your hair one last spritz over with water to dampen or setting lotion. And then you can wrap your hair up for the night in a little turban. I would recommend a thin cotton or mesh scarf so that your hair can breathe and dry overnight. I'M back it's the next morning and my hair has been setting for about eight to ten hours. I'M just going to be taking out all of my bobby pins, but i will be leaving the four curls on top of my head, which i will work on later now, even though these gorgeous shirley temple ringlets are very beautiful, we're not going to be keeping them. So the first stage of the brush out is before even brushing it out is loosening it up with your fingers to make sure that there aren't any knots and once you've done, that you can move on to using your favorite brush. I would recommend a paddle brush or if you do have a nice sturdy vintage brush. That'S a very good option too. Now to begin with the sculpting and brushing process, you're going to guide your hand all the way down and brush that hair over your hand. So it rolls under and really it's very easy once you get the hang of it, i can definitely say that brushing out, pin curls is much much easier than foam rollers, because the curls you end up with from foam rollers are quite tight. It can be really difficult to brush it out sometimes, so this is a very, very easy brush out. So, as you can see, it hasn't taken me long at all. I'Ve literally just dragged the brush through and pulled my hair over my hands, and it really just is so easy to sculpt brushing the back of your hair might seem daunting, but i promise it's not. You can just feel most of it and just bring your hand along and brush and brush under, and you can use a little mirror to see what the back of your hair looks like. Moving on to the fringe, taking out the bobby pins and running your fingers through and brushing that out, and just really whatever way it happens to sit is usually what i end up going with just. However, it lies that day, and that is the beauty of hair. You just have to work with it and whatever way the hair wants to fall is the way that you kind of have to go. You can't force it. You just have to do whatever your hair is doing that day. I also added a little hair comb into the hairstyle to keep the hair out of my face and last but not least, remember to hairspray do so. I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial. Thank you so much for watching and see you next sunday without further ado. Let'S get into it, are you kidding me

Sage Lilleyman: Make sure to let me know if you try out pin curling your hair, you can tag me over on Instagram! https://www.instagram.com/sage_lilley/

Tara Lucas: I see so many tutorials involving backcombing, tons of spray, endless sculpting, and creating “dents”. If pincurling and brushing out is done correctly, you don’t need all that!!! Yours looks so soft and natural, and way more true to the 40’s era

Mala Maurer: Ohhhh....now I understand why bobby pins come in packs of 1,000.

Carol Powers: My aunt used to put her hair up in pincurls all the time. She, like me, had poker straight hair, but it was the style ... she would always tell me, when I was struggling to set my hair, that "Beauty must suffer!" We would always laugh! Thanks for bringing back such wonderful memories! <3

Sarah Brooklyn Studios: Definitely going to try this out. I needed a hairstyle to go with my 1940s dress I’ve been sewing

Lover of the Arts: I genuinely think this is the first vintage hair tutorial I've watched where the whole process didn't come across as overwhelming and daunting to me. You really made it simple to watch, follow and now I'm super excited to try this tonight! Thank you!

Alterjunkie: Absolutely Gorgeous, I thank ALL the young ladies out there that choose to keep these vintage styles alive , THANK YOU from us baby boomers :-) You ladies look Fabulous !!!!

CherryLe Bee: I tried this and I am obsessed! I've always loved vintage hair but I thought it was really difficult to do. I was also worried it wouldn't work well with my hair type. I have very fine thin straight hair. But this gave me the volume I've always wanted! I'm very happy!!! Thank you for this tutorial ♡♡♡♡

R L: Ive tried this several times & end up looking like a poodle, i wish i could master it somehow! Such a gorgeous hairstyle & suits you beautifully

Juliana Alencar: Sage, I've been a subscriber for about a month. Even though I usually don't comment on videos, I want to say I am really glad I found your channel by accident. You are a pretty lady with a lovely voice and very enthusiastic about the subjects you like. When I watch your videos I feel like time traveling to a fun and fancy age. Thank you for cheering my weekend up.

TK Raid: Finally! A vintage hair tutorial without too much gels, hair spray, and other stuff! Will definitely do this to style my long, wavy quarantine hair

Claire: I have longer hair and I tried this and I got Judy garland. And it looks gorgeous thanks for the video.

JO DABNEY: Ok...I'm of the era of Bobby pins, curlers, and hair dryers. For fun I'm going to pin curl tonight. I absolutely love the memories you bring to me of the 50's

Bee Apple: I've been trying and failing at 40s hair for 3 weeks using foam rollers. I'll definitely give this a go

The Missus Ryan: Gorgeous! I’m itching to try this out again this coming weekend. Practice, practice. Thank you for the more in depth tutorial!

Lili: So glad you showed us how it's done, my grandma always pin-curled our hair, but I didn't know how to do it myself.

Coffee With CC: My granny used to roll my hair on strips of brown paper bag & the curls were beautiful!

Mignon Imke: Thank you for this. I just love the pin curl look on you. Definitely going to do this, especially love the comb on the side.

Funky Monkey: I have naturally curly hair, which I love but it can be much harder to figure out vintage hairstyling. I might give this a go and see what happens! It seems so simple compared to other videos where you need a ton of products.

shells 4kids: Perfect!! Loved this! It makes me think I could even give it a try! I guess I'd have to cut my hair first. You are a lovely person! Your channel will continue to grow!

Anonymous: Gah you make it look so easy! I’ve been avoiding pin curls like the plague just because they seem so difficult, but foam rollers aren’t giving me the results I want. I’m gonna give these a shot, I hope they work for me! :)

Brenda Leverick: Your hair looks lovely. Thanks for showing us how to do this. Have a great day.

X: This is so helpful and lovely, thank you! I can't wait to try this

J H: Yayyyy! Your hair is so perfect (especially in the 1960's workout where it withstood A LOT) and I'm still practicing. Good tips.

Corrina: So so glad this came up in my recommended your hair looks GORGEOUS! I tried pin curling just my bangs and they came out great

Mostly Anthologies: I really think there is something so underrated and underappreciated of you youtubers who bring us back in time. You all teach us things about our history as humans. It isn't just empty, yet entertaining content; but, legitimate education on how we lived in history. That the human race actually not only SURVIVED without technology, but thrived. Obviously, each era has its share of plagues and horrible mistakes or tragedies...but for the majority of people, they lived perfectly happy without loud beeping noises and bright flickering screens. "No, kids, you actually WONT die, if you don't get the new iPhone. And here is why..." I love all of you who do these kinds of videos. Bringing us back to reality of the fact that we are incredibly resilient creatures that can handle anything and even dress up and celebrate with each other because we are alive to do so.

Ruhani Kajal: Please do a vintage morning skincare (self-care) video. And before bed too.

C.M. Bauer: Thank you for all the wholesome cheerful content!

rpmstudios: THANK YOU! I am a total beginner when it comes to styling hair (and doing makeup), but I wanted to start completing my vintage look with the proper hairdo! I will be trying this out tonight and updating tomorrow. Edit: Just finished doing all the curls. It’s not bad for my first time (especially since it’s my first time doing hair EVER) but it’s definitely looking rough. Hopefully it turns out well. Edit: Finished brushing it out, and it’s amazing! Definitely could use improvement on my end, but great for my first time.

Jessie Cochran: I would love to try this one day, except I don't know how it would turn out with already having naturally curly hair. By the way, you are gorgeous, Sage! Keep making awesome vintage videos.

KitCake: Thank you for this video! This is the first tutorial I've seen without products. I am 100% going to try this out!

Isis Anamilet: So beautiful! I will definitely do it! ❤️

Shrewsbaby: You make this look vert simple! Thank you for sharing the brushing technique, too!

Woop: This is giving me horror flash backs of when I used to try and pin curl my hair My hair hates anything curl related and refuses to look good if I try to curl it. I'm talking frizzy poodle hair lol. Yours look so good!

Patricia: So nice to meet you, Sage, you are such a delight and a breath of fresh air! You're beautiful inside and out! Since I'm a new subscriber, I must catch up on all your wonderful videos especially those with James and your chickens! LOL! I don't know if you've already mentioned this, but during the '50s and to this very day, using a satin or silk pillowcase can help keep your hairstyle in place even while you are tossing and turning throughout the night. Also, do you have any videos showing the two of you socializing with friends in your vintage home? That would be really cool! Keep up the great work, Sage! You're a keeper!

PSW47: The older lovely styles look beautiful on you. Always an informative and interesting video.

Melissa Dawn: Your hair is so bouncey and shiny!!!

Marylin-Lizzy von D: You are really a vintage sweetheart The curls look really great, I think I have to try the pin curls after all . I always use sponge rollers but the curls are mostly a little bit to tight as you said and the curls a little bit harder to brush out

Joleen Pietrzyk: I am AMAZED by this video Sage! Thank you so much for making it. The pincurl hairstyles were soooooooo beautiful, and I can see why. So much attention to detail and patience is required. You look beautiful!

ᄒᄋ: Your hair is beautiful!! Thank you for this video, I’ve actually had no idea that people back then would do this technique :O

Olivia Hawkins: I love your videos I’ve been using foam rollers but I definitely want to give pin curls another go after watching this video since I’ve had a hard time with the brush out. Also, do you do pin curls every night or do they stay for a few days for you? And do you have any tips keeping the hair to stay curled through the night after you’ve curled it? Trying to get mine to last longer!

streetofdreams: Enjoyed this very much! Gives me hope that I might finally be able to do a pincurl set I'd be happy with. Love how cheerful and relaxed this tutorial is. Is your hair cut in a horseshoe/U shape in the back, or just straight across? (I'm wondering if this detail might be the reason my sets aren't turning out more like yours here.) Is

Candice Young: Hi Sage, congratulations on 40k,that's awesome. I was excited to see the title of this, cause this was something my mother used to do to curl my hair. We did it a little differently, but I actually would sleep with these in my hair, lol.at least a couple times a week. We would use just washed hair, still damp.and put a towel over,or a little cap. And it would be super curly in the morning. I still have a million bobby pins around. You did a great job. It turned out great.

The Art Doctor: Thanks for the tips! My curls are finally being brushed out correctly! :-)

Jill Whitcomb: My parents were married in 1954. My Dad gave a hair brush, with a matching mirror, to my Mom one year for Christmas when they were first married. It is the same style, and almost identical, to the hair brush you are using : )

Robin In The Cut: I absolutely adore your channel!! Congratulations on your channel

Muslimah Yahyaa: Hi Sage! What kind of brush do you use in your videos? I always have trouble finding a good brush to work with and one like yours would do perfectly! Also, I finally got the hang of curling my hair as you did in this video, only when I got halfway through curling, I ran out of bobby pins and had to use some foam rollers! Anyway, I love the hair style and it suits you very well. Thanks so much and look forward to all your videos!!!

cak 813: I’ve gone for a shorter hair length now that I’m I bit “older” and I will sometimes set it in pincurls after I shampoo my hair. My hair is pretty straight but with pincurls (depending on the weather), the curl will stay in my hair for a few days. It’s an easy way to get a different look.

Ana Carolina Sabino: I love how easy your tutorials are and don't use a lot of products to do your hair always thought that curls with bobby pins become more fluffy, the work that gives is worth

Deanna Stevens: Wonderful tutorial! Thank you for another video with great content. Your curls turned out awesome. Thanks for adding the info about super straight and hard to curl hair. Mine is. And only with Rollers/curlers of somekind, and setting lotion,,,,do I get curls that will last more than a few hours. I like the soft twisty rollers alot. My hair ends up looking like Merida from Brave. I Love it.

Sherry MacKinnon: I have been dying to figure out a good hairstyle with curls and waves...Thank you so much! I too am a red head. I wish I could send a pic of the results!

Sherlock-sensei: For a play in high school we had our hair pin curled, but it was never explained that we should take them down from the bobby pins or do anything else. XD Now I realize how crazy we must have looked

Rag Doll Cookie: Very lovely! I was wondering how you keep the fringe ones from falling out overnight? I feel like I would need to secure mine flat down with twenty pins to stop them from springing out

Leanne Paula: Your hair is so beautiful and you’re so gorgeous’!! ❤️

Ariana C: Thank you for this! I randomly switch styles really quickly and now I’m in a 40s/50s phase...............again........for like the 100th time.
