My Wash Day Routine | Relaxed Hair

This highly requested video will show my entire step by step wash day process.

I've been following this wash day process for the past 7-8 years without fail. I complete this process typically on Sundays (once a week, every week). I always apply my protein treatments on dry hair (for better absorption) with heat, shampoo it out, follow up with a moisturizing deep conditioner (mixed with oils) and then my leave-in conditioner. I do the scarf method - while air drying - until completely dry. Then I moisturize and seal.

This routine has been working for me and my relaxed hair. I swear by all of the products that I use. On a few occasions I will substitute my conditioners and swap them out with other protein and moisturizing deep conditioners just to experiment :)

Hey guys in this video I'll be sharing with you my wash day routine for my relaxed hair. This is a highly requested video. So let's get started so I always apply my protein treatments to dry unwashed hair in this video, I'm about 6 to 7 weeks post relaxer right now, I'm using a CG two-minute Reconstructor mixed with coconut oil. I find that when I apply this mixture on dry hair, it absorbs way better in my hair is so fortified and strong, so I'm gon na be mixing in about two teaspoons of coconut oil into my mixture, along with the average each I'm going to Reconstructor. I mix this all together and then I apply it to my dry unwashed hair. So I applied my protein treatment in about five sections for complete coverage. That way my hair is completely saturated and the treatment goes from my roots, all the way to my ends. I'Ve been doing this regimen for years now, I want to say a good seven to eight years has been working for me. I always apply my protein treatment to dry, hair, shampoo, it out and then do a moisture treatment afterwards. I typically do this regimen on Sundays. Once a week to ensure my hair stays strong, but soft and moisturize and manageable can y'all cuz. He can tell me so step two of my wash day routine consists of shampooing. I always shampoo with a sulfate-free shampoo and I'm using the cherry care sulfate free shampoo, which is an absolute favorite. This has quickly become a staple in my regimen. If you follow my blog in my Instagram you'll know that I love this shampoo and I also use my scalp invigorated to help remove build-up from my scalp and to ensure that everywhere stimulated and to enhance growth. Step3 of my wash day, routine consists of my moisture treatment. I always apply the three penetrating oils: coconut olive oil and avocado oil. These are my absolute favorites. They penetrate deep into the cortex of the hair to help restore and fortify the hair. I absolutely love Carrie Carrie Michaels is a staple conditioner that I use. If you follow my blog and my Instagram you'll see that as well. This treatment makes my hair so soft, so smooth so supple. It is my absolute favorite, so I get this mix ready and then I apply it to my t-shirt: dried hair cuz. He can't help me step. Four consists of me applying my leave-in conditioner right now, I'm using the cream of nature argan, a buttermilk hair milk. Throughout my hair and then I'm going to seal it in with jojoba oil to ensure that my hair air-dry is soft and moisturized. I then used my seamless, wide tooth comb to detangle from ends to roots, to ensure that there's no tangles and my hair air-dry is nice and smooth, so what's been working for me is only detangling on wash days. This has helped tremendously in the creasing breakage and, as you can see, not that much shed hair has come out. So now I'm going to apply my scarf, which is the scarf method. So step 5 consists of me air drying and a plane when I scarf to the hairline of my hair, it is to ensure that it stays smooth and flat. While I stretched my relaxer so it looks nice and fresh once I'm fully air dried and that's it for my wash day, very simple, very easy, which is why it's been working for me for all of these years. So I will list all the products I use below and I thank you guys so much for watching.

tkincey: So glad you're back!!! I am one of the few naturals who thinks relaxed hair is beautiful too! It's a preference. This is where I send all of my relaxed friends who want to grow their hair long. Please give us more!!!

Shantelle S: I don't usually comment but I've been overcome by a wave of nostalgia! You are the reason why I have long relaxed hair to this day! I followed your routines to the T about 6 or 7 years ago and I was so amazed at how long my hair grew! I noticed a significant difference in 3 months. I was just beginning a transitioning journey to natural hair but now that you're back I am so tempted to go back to relaxing (and I just might). Never had a problem with my relaxed hair...I guess I just wanted a challenge lol. Don't ever leave again!

CC Paul: Please don't ever leave us again! We love you so much and your relaxed hair is absolutely beautiful I'm soooooooo glad to see you back!

Mr CoG: I'm a 4c natural and I follow your wash day routine. My hair is more moisturized during the week and it's growing very well. I mix the oils and do the deep condition on dry hair the same way, wash then do a moisture deep condition . This works ladies.

Tamara Taylor: You are like the last relaxed person I am subscribed to on YouTube. Everyone else went natural

Val Alexander: I gotta say huge thank you!!I'm following your hair regimen and I absolutely love the results after years of breakage and damage to my hair due to lack of caring for it,so this pandemic gave me a reason to do so..the products are amazing and I love their smell, thanks for this

E S B: Oh my gosh!! I can't express how grateful I am for your channel. I have been trying to combat dry hair for so long and I have watched videos before but never really followedyour advice, kept using the same products and never seeing good results. This week, I was at my wits end being 14 weeks post, my new growth was very thick and dry and I thought I knew I couldn't relax my hair in this state. I watched your video on moisture and protein and then ended up watching so many more and I took some notes, went to the shops and bought new products for about £100. I did your wash day to the tee, 2 step and keracare treatments, and used the S curl activator spray. I feel like crying because I have wasted so much time on my hair and I've been doing all the wrong things!!! I also felt like crying tears of joy, my hair has never so soft and hydrated my whole life especially when it was so dry and breaking off this last month. I had a baby and hair maintenance has been inconsistent because I didn't have a plan. I know I'm going to see results now just from consistently following your regimen. Honestly, I am just so grateful for Youtubers like you because you really make a difference. I felt it in my soul when you said invest in your hair, not wigs. I was about to give up on my hair and blame it on genetics and just buy more wigs. But you helped me!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH, YOU'RE THE G.O.A.T!! I will be supporting your channel consistently from now, I'll be watching every ad sis! Much love❤❤❤❤❤❤ from the UK

Valerie Mothobi: I really love how her hair still looks thick with texture even though it's relaxed like it's not bone straight! I'm definitely gonna try her relaxing method!

Holly Days: I love your routine: very simple, precise and cost-effective without wasting products. I enjoyed this video‼️

Frieda89: This technique worked wonders on my relaxed hair. Came to say thank you.

Kesha G: I realized how important it is to do each step when washing relaxed hair. I realized also that my hair needs to be washed every week cuz my hair gets very dry. Your videos motivate me to continue my relaxed hair journey. My hair has been breaking and thinning on the left side of my head and the crown. Another hair chronicle journey starts for me lol.

Besides Beauty: you are my hair inspiration. I've been watching you since 2009 and I'm glad you still continue to educate on how to take of our hair (whether relaxed or natural). thank you!!

Rae Talks: I no longer relax my hair but I want to thank you because I remember your channel really helped me learn how to achieve healthy hair :D

Jennifer Hernandez: I've learned so much about caring for my hair from this one video! Thank you for sharing your process. I'm getting all of these products.

Ché Lyons: Thank you so much for this video. Moved to LA, last year, the water and weather has made my hair so dry. My scalp is flaking, which it never has before. After getting about two - three inches cut off, I've been researching how to handle my hair in this climate. Did your regime today, and I believe you gave me a solution!!!! Thank you.

Melanie Harriottu: I’m starting my relaxed journey and ive been binge watching your videos! is this the regimen you started with when you began washing and deep conditioner twice a week? and how long did you do this until you cut down to once a week?

OneFaithfulMama: Being 6 months pregnant, I’ve been seeing results with my hair for a while but I’m so glad I found your channel cause I’m going to incorporate these steps so I can grow my hair

Janel Olivia: I have been watching you since I was 18(2009) and I have reached bsl. I am so happy to have found you and hairlista/YouTube because I had constant breakage and didn’t know how to care for my hair. I had no idea about retention and why my hair was breaking. I am so grateful because I have learned about hair care and can pass it down to my cousins and nieces

rareezy14: Seeing that somebody else uses the plastic bag and twists it up in the front just like me was the most validating thing ever!!!

Valentinaaaaaaa: Currently following your tips and advice. I have a short pixie. Just relaxed after years of being natural. Needed to switch it up. Thank you for sharing the knowledge ❤️❤️

MeshaLuvzBeauty: I tried your wash routine and I'm in love. I had aphogee 2 minute reconstructer. But I didn't have the other products but I did the same process. I will try the products you used eventually.

Joyful4life: Loved that routine so im subbing as im about to go on relaxed hair journey.. needed a good routine to follow..

empress395: Beautiful. Glad to see you’re back. This makes me miss my relaxed hair. Sooo much easier on wash day!

Lisa Williams-Walker: You're the reason I started my hair journey...thanks for coming back!

Shevon Da Costa: Your hair looks so healthy and good sislove it! You got a new subscriber for sure

ms.chelle: It is FABULOUS to see you back!! Thanks for sharing your relaxed hair update.

Muñeca: I used to watch your videos 6 years ago when I was relaxed...then I went natural, my hair too thick and too much work so last year I cut it all off lol and it’s grown back so fast so I’m thinking of relaxing again and I’m so glad you still make videos!!

Coily Loxs: Hi I used a rice water rinse for my protein today but I followed your shampoo, deep conditioning, and leave in treatments. The shampoo smells Devine! My hair feels really good. My new growth is soft working on getting my ends to feels the same way. I just started working on stopping the shedding, staying moisturized and working on getting my multi length hair healthy and finally to one length. #hairgoals

keysha thompson: I’m so happy I found your channel. Your routine is making my new growth soft and making my strong

MsChicoro: I love how you do your 2 Minute Aphogee Reconstructor process.

Amanda Fox: I'm not relaxed but my best friend is. I'm so happy these exist because she needs help with her hair and now I can help her!

Visatthebeach: I know this is 4 years old; yet, I'm using this regimen as I type. I brought all the products I need, which I chuckled to myself bc the KeraCare line is what I grew up using on my hair. Your reason for your hair journey was the inspiration and example I needed. I canceled my hair appt today and said I can wash, condition, and style my own hair; however, I will still get my relaxer done professionally. I didn't like the products being used or how my hair was over manipulated. Everything else I can do because I NOW know it's possible! THANK YOU for sharing your journey with us!

Love lite: I really do appreciate you and all of your hair care videos, I have been educated very well , thanks

SheMakesWaves Bee: Beautiful hair, and you too! Excellent method, this looks like it makes complete sense. Thanks for sharing - Subbed!

Trenita Yancey: Yessssss she's back plz don't stay away too long I'm ready to relax again after almost 10yrs

Tonya Tucker: I’m going in braids for a few weeks as a protective style for my relax hair during these brutal Chicago winters! Can I follow this routine while my hair is braided? Any suggestions for making sure my hair stays moisturized under the braids?

debra good: Hi hairlista my hair is now natural but when I started my hair journey I started watching you . I won't stop watching mama still love watching Happy to see an update from you.

SW33TSPARKL3: Loving ur healthy hair and the length

lisa scott: Thanks for sharing. This DC regimen works. My hair broke off due to illness and laziness. I'm back to midback length now. TY

Lisa B.: I enjoyed your video, writing the products down so I can look for them when I go to the beauty supply store. You have beautiful hair, keep doing what you’re doing. Blessings to you.

Reagan Davis: Hi, I’m trying to grow my hair and I loved your video and I think I’ll use it for my new wash routine but I was confused by two things, do you use the aphogee protein every week and if not how long do you wait before using it? also when you said “off to deep condition” did you apply deep conditioning products on top of the protein then dry it or did you just let it dry and then start washing?

Brianna Rashay: your hair looks so good!

Salt of The Earth: It's so amazing how the hair at the tips first began at the roots

Marsha Persad: Hey in this video I noticed you said you only detangle on wash days to minimize hair shedding. Could you elaborate on this because I'm prone to major shedding Thanks so much! You're great!

Crystal Nicole Wright: Very helpful. Thank you for this!

Jess Ijebor: I've tried to get as many of the products as possible (but eventually the purse strings tightened) and pretty sure I've been watching these videos on a loop but after basically watching my hair fall away due to lack of care I decided this lockdown is the best time to kickstart my regrowth journey. Your videos have been really helpful and I am hoping that I'll be as disciplined as you with my routine! P.s I think you used it in a different video but the As I Am moisturiser really does make a difference!

Liam Smith: HAIRLISTA!!! I just stalker you on Instagram and I am truly in awe! I had a major set back last year (protein overload). It was dreadful!!!. That was right after chemical over processing if you can imagine that....and I didn't have long hair t being with so I have been taking TONS of notes and have invested in some product and about to embark on my hair journey. Pray for me y'all!!! You are truly an inspiration and thank you for your dedication and sharing such helpful tips.Question: Why do you wash your hair twice weekly? Is that just your thing, or do you find it beneficial to the hair growth journey/process?

Bernadette Martin: I’m new to your channel and your hair is healthy and beautiful. Your recommendations are awesome. I purchased a big tub of the KeraCare conditioner. It’s amazing. Thank you and keep up the good work

chioma lynda: I tried messaging you on Instagram but for some reasons, the message wouldn’t deliver each time I try. What is the difference between Aphogee 2 minute reconstructor and the Aphogee 2 step treatment? Also is it compulsory to use the Aphogee balance moisturizer after the protein treatment or any moisturizing conditioner will work?

Diane Noble: i just happened to click on your channel, and I am so very happy that I did. I have learned so much about hair care from your videos!!! Thank you!!!

ladynefertitibk: Your hair looks great. Thanks for all the tips.

Yolanda Pierce: I watched one of your videos last night, and I am a new subscriber for sure. I've been a hairstylist for 16 years, but they don't teach anything outside of how to apply a relaxer. I had no idea that I should, even with my own hair, moisturize and seal. I also have low porosity hair, so this information has been a game changer for me. Thanks for the informative videos!

aliciabrillante: I used to air dry my hair when I was relaxed but I was always the only one. People thought I was crazy.

Crafting with Angie: Hey Sunshine! so glad to see you my friend. Your hair is so beautiful and healthy. :)

Uma Abde: warning! I used that scalp brush on my relaxed hair and it got my hair tangled up so bad! be careful

cooldesert30: Thanks for sharing your wash day routine, I gain some great tips. Thanks for all of your years of service to the hair community. Your platfirm has been a blessing, especially in the rural community I live in.

Carlen Ledain: Definitely a new subscriber. You have beautiful hair and I’m in the process of trying out your style. I am relaxed but growing out a pixie cut (ugh the struggles). Goal is mid back length which I had as a child. Quick question are you using normal conditioner as a deep conditioner with the oils or is that a deep conditioner in the video?

Joseanne Boisson: Hihi.... love your videos! I wanted to ask you. Do you do this process every week? Protein treatment, shampoo (using a clarifying or moisturizing)?, use a moisturizing conditioner then air dry? Secondly when do you use the pre shampoo method? @hairlicious

PinkLemon: Trying to find a good routine for my mom! Thanks

Sweet tooth Marie': Love yr channel! I'm relaxed and yr tips are definately helping...

chioma lynda: What is the difference between Aphogee 2 minute reconstructor and the Aphogee 2 step protein treatment?

Nah: Great routine!

RaeLaRoux: Your relaxed hair looks so thick, it’s great!

Burt: Thank GOD you’re back!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t leave us again! There’s not too many relaxed women on YouTube

Summer24: Great to see u back, i love natural hair but it is good to see some relax sistas as well.

Michelle Foster: I don't understand why for those who dislike this video and any other video's you put out. One word, Jealous. For some who may thumbs down because her method is too much no need for thumbs down, keep in mind it's what works for her obviously the proof is in the pudding.

Essence Cooper: Yesss we need more hair videos !

Monica Herrera: This is the healthiest nicest relaxed hair I’ve seen. Wow

nika2836: The humecto in the tub is a completely different conditioner from the bottle. The humecto in the tub leave my hair fealing silky while the bottle humecto makes my hair feels like straw. I couldn't justify buying the tub so I got hydrafuse instead which is a really good moisturising conditioner. Glad that you are back.

Ma'jayah Battle: Your hair is looking pretty good for it to be relaxed

Gae Lan: So good to see a video. I Liked before I even watched. Do you do this protein treatment every week? And if not - how often do you do it?

Spiritually Young: Thank God there's someone left! I went natural June 2018....bald fade. The journey was heartbreaking and just hard so I permed June 2019. Its growing better but still not fast enough. New subscriber

Mya Rivers: Hair! I can't with mine. Relaxed or not relaxed. Do a video on how to maintain relaxed hair. Like dealing sweating, dew and all that every single day!

Sapphire Relaxed Hair: Wonderful review! Thank you so much for sharing your hair is gorgeous God bless you

ReNNee: Just subscribed❤️☺️. Ive had so many set backs. Crown breaking off because of tight ponytails, and just neglecting it because it was so corse. I just took down my box braids after 1 month post relaxer. I thought i was going to bald since I only waited 2 weeks after my relaxer to get them. I got some new growth, and i have all my edges. Finger detangling has saved my life, and daily moisturizing with my sprays and oils. Ive finally got my hair together and its growing. Im definitely going to follow all of these tips. Hopefully by next year im at mid back length.

Ms. Woodard: Yes. Very nice. I only use combs and brushes on shampoo day. I keep my hair in one tucked braid ALL the time

MsB: Thank you so much for this video it saved my hair!

Juliankha: Do you use the coconut/apogee with the 2 step reconstructor or just by itself? No other protein tx?

Maggie Lherisson: Yeah! I am so glad that you're back. I would like to have an update on how you relax your hair.

Sophia B: Thank you for sharing. How often do you do the protein treatment? Where in the gta area can I get the Keracare reconstructor?

R.M Richmond: My natural and low porosity and I have tried a lot of the natural hair videos and over priced products I have found that my hair responds instantly to old school products and 25% natural products depending on what part of the processes I'm on.. I have also found that a little bit of products responds better so basically my natural hair responds better to relaxed hair regimen than the natural hair regimen....right now I'm using your regimen in this video wish me luck

Jemma Robinson: Starting my hair journey today

Marcie_does_it: Your hair is beautiful. Great video

Bee1 Boyd: Hi, Beautiful Queen. Would your routines and hair treatments work for natural hair as well?

Krissy James: How often can you do a protein treatment on relaxed hair ?

Natasha Moore: I'm a first time viewer.I'm going to try this.My hair is growing but stays soo dry that I always experience breakage its frustrating.Hopefully this will work for me.Your hair is beautiful.Thks

CookFamily: Hello! Very helpful content here. As I look through all these hair care videos, one of the most important factors is hardly ever mentioned. The state or general region of the world where this hair care works is important to note. I am not sure if you’ve posted it here already but can you please provide the state you live in. I live in Utah where it’s like a desert climate so using S-Curl/ humectants/ glycerin is probably not the most helpful for my 4C hair, in this climate, especially in winter. Please provide your general region if you’re not comfortable providing the state you live in. Thank you!! :)

MsIGetLotOfThat: Omg before I even watch the video I have to say that I watched your videos and followed you on KISS I think it was YEARS ago when I first started my hair care journey and I had NO idea you still uploaded videos and were still relaxed. EVERY relaxed youtuber goes natural due to peer pressure I feel and I’m so glad you’re not weak minded and do what YOU want to do!!!

Hellen Mbenge: I have started this routine this month and am going to follow it religiously. Hope I'll bring back my testimony

Kimberly Ify: I used to watch your videos back in the day when i was relaxed! the nostalgia

Lily Bond: I am newly relaxed. I love your channel and all ur tips! I have a question. In step 1, when u deep conditioning with" heat" does it mean you go under your steamer or a hooded dryer or heating cap? Thanks for replying!

Alonna Johnson: My hair is better relaxed and still remains thick and healthy I hate when I don’t get a perm for a long time my hair is unmanageable

Aries G: Is there a video of you showing us your relaxer routine? I would really appreciate it

Natural Beauty: I tend to go back and watch old videos till I get to the new ones. Question?? In your newest videos you mention you do two washes per week. I noticed it said you did a protein treatment following a relaxer and then the next time later in the week you do a follow up w/a shampoo and moisturizing deep conditioner. So my question is this : do you just do a protein treatment after your perm now ONLY (once) or is this still once a week followed by a second wash w/deep conditioner? I’ve been following you ever since the hair boards. Thanks.

Amy T. Gilbert: Thank you so much for this video!

Sandra Parker: I never thought I could air dry my relaxed hair! What kind of scarf do you use? Did you buy it at a hair supply store?

Gabie: Love your videos ❤️how often do you do a protein treatment ?

TheCarnivoreSoprano: good to see you!! looking pretty as always. Hair popping.

Daiz fully: Should I try the 2 minute reconstructor? I tried the other one, the two step before and my hair was so hard even after using the conditioner that came with it (i have the strangest feeling I've asked this question before but I feel the need to ask this). I normally order my products online though, because my country doesn't sell it. Hopefully my mum would let me buy the 2-min reconstructor if the results would differ..... I'm also curious about the humecto... My hair needs alot of moisture and when i suggested to my mum to buy it she said it was a 'cheap' product :/

Melisha Clarke: New subscriber! How long does it take to air dry your hair?
