How I Cut My Hair At Home In Long Layers! | Long Layered Haircut Diy At Home! |Updated!

I finally did an updated hair cutting tutorial video! I have been cutting my own hair for years and decided to do a video on how I cut my hair now. It's basically the same as my previous videos with a little tweaks here and there. This hair cut is long layered, with a bunch of layers in it. But we keep the length super long...and we also keep the thickness. The layers are blended in so beautifully. This is a hair cut that has simple steps and anyone can do it at home whether you have short hair, medium hair or long hair. It goes really with middle parts, side parts and really cute in ponytails.

I used to have really bad experiences at the hair salon and just never came out satisfied. So I started cutting my own hair, and found a way to get my perfect haircut at home. I never get tired of this cut, because I can style it so many ways. I also get to keep the length long. I have lots of layers and this helps my hair look really voluminous because the volume comes from the short layers on top.

Hey guys welcome back to my channel in today's video I'm going to be showing you how I get my layered haircut at home. I get a lot of questions about my haircut and I do cut it myself and I love it because there's so many layers and best of all I get to keep my length. So I get to keep my long hair if you're new to my channel make sure you subscribe for more videos like this one, and I don't go to the salon anymore. I cut my own hair because I actually really love the way my hair comes out when I cut it and the salon just never got it right and if you're interested then keep on watching now. The first thing I want to do is straighten all my hair and, as you can see right now, my hair looks really ratchet and it needs some serious cutting. So I'm using a hair straightener here that has like a brush attached to it and it makes it so much easier guys. It'S just you can brush and straighten your hair. At the same time, everything is just quicker and I will leave this linked down below for you guys if you're interested next, I'm going to part my hair down the middle. Now I'm going to take from the middle of my scalp to down to my ears warm at your start and I'm going to separate the hair in the front. Now this is the hair that we're going to be working on first and the rest of the hair. I'M just going to tie it in the back so that it's out of my way and out of my face. So these are the layers that are going to be framing our face. That'S why we're going to work on it first and the first thing I'm going to do is create a guide. This is going to be the guide that we're going to be using to cut the rest of our hair. So I'm going to separate a little bit of hair from the top and take it all the way up and hold it tightly and then we're going to start cutting. Now we're going to cut in a straight line - and I know that looks like a lot of hair that looks kind of scary, but point cut upwards and I promise you it's going to turn out so so pretty and we're going to be using this guide. Now to cut the rest of the hair, so take a little bit of that and then mix it in with one side of the hair and I'm going to take that side of the hair and bring it up and diagonal we're not going to bring it all. The way up we're going to make it like a little bit of a diagonal and I'm going to use my comb so that everything is straight and you're going to see the guide sticking out right there. So we're going to be cutting the hair according to the guide, so cut where your guide is and point cut upwards. I know that looks like a lot of hair, but I promise it's going to turn out really pretty and see. As you can see right there, you actually really do get to keep your length and your layers just come out really feathered and beautiful and blended, and we're going to do the same thing with the other side. Brush the hairs up and diagonal and you're going to see your guide right there, sticking out, that's where you're going to cut and we're going to cut off all of that dead, hair and recreate our layers, so point cut upwards. The reason why we're point cutting is because it just helps the layers to blend more easily and it doesn't give you that choppy blood look. So, as you can see here, everything just came out really even and we're going to start working on the rest of our hair, I'm going to part it down the middle and bring it to the front and I'm going to be working on one side at a Time the side that I'm not working on, I'm going to tie it just to keep it out of my way and I'm going to work on this side. Now I'm going to take a chunk of my hair and mix it in with the guide and then I'm going to brush that up and diagonal and we're going to start cutting now we're going to cut this a little bit differently. So, do you see the guide right there we're going to cut an inch lower than that guide because we're creating our second layer so cut one inch lower than your guide and cut all that dead, hair off, like that hair looks really dead and point cut upwards. Remember to do that, so your layers are nice and blended. Now we just created our second layer and you can see right there. Everything just blend it in really nicely and then taking up some of the hair that I just cut. I'M going to take the rest of the hair and brush that up and make sure you brush the back up to just so there's no knots or chunks that are going to be uneven. Now the second guide that we created, you can see. That'S sticking out right. There we're going to cut one inch lower than our second guide and point cut that upwards and that's going to be our last layer. It'S going to be our third layer and we're done with one side. Basically. So now we're going to do the same thing to the other side. You want to grab a chunk of hair and then pull it up and to the side and then you're going to see the guide right there we're going to cut one below at that Guy'd. So point cut upwards and inch below that one and that's going to create our second layer on the other side. And then you can see the layers just there coming out really pretty and then we're going to take the rest of our hair brush it upwards and in a diagonal way, and then we're going to cut an inch away from our second layer. So you're going to see the guide right there we're going to see our second guide and our first guide right there and I'm going to cut an inch away from the second one, and I really love this haircut. You guys, because it just gives me so much volume and it just it's perfect. It'S exactly the way that I want it and it just it's right for me. So, as you can see, there's a lot of layers, there's a lot of volume and everything comes out. So, even and blended and pretty and you can stop right there or you can go on to blend your layers a little bit more, which is what I like to do so I brush all my hair to the front and then any straggly pieces that you see You can just cut those off just to make your layers even more, even and blended, so just cut off any pieces that look like they don't belong there and then here's another option. So you take one side of your hair. You pull it all the way to the side, and you want to make sure that it makes like a diagonal shape and all of the pieces that stick out. You can just cut those out and then I'm going to do the same thing to the other side. I'M going to brush all of the hair up and in a diagonal way, and then everything that sticks out of like that diagonal shape. You just want to chop those off, and this is just an optional step that I like to do just to make sure that my layers are all even and just you know they flow together really nicely, and I love this haircut because you can keep it straight. You can keep it natural, you can curl it, you can wave it. You could do anything you want to it. Any style looks amazing on it and there's so much volume and best part you get to keep your length, so the salon would always cut my length off, and here I just get. I just really am in love with this haircut and I wanted to share with you guys an updated version, because all my other versions - um, the lighting - is not that good. So I hope you guys enjoyed this. Thank you guys so much for watching subscribe to my channel for more videos like this one. I do upload every single week and I have so many exciting videos coming up for you guys and thank you guys so much for watching. I will talk to you guys in my next video bye,

Momma From Scratch: You an amazing job!! Someone who has thick hair I appreciate this so much! Thank you it was easy to understand!!!

Namas Yoga: I hate having my hair cut. I've been using this video for 3 years and it hasn't let me down. I have thin/fine, straight Asian hair that has no texture. So this cut has been really good for me to have long hair without it weighing down and just sticking to my head. Thanks Sheetal xx

Diamond B: Tried it out yesterday and omg the layers are everything that I wanted. I’ve been a licensed hairdresser for 10 years and I just learned a new technique that I can’t wait to try on my clients. Thank you!!!

Isabelle Twaddle: I've been going through postpartum hair loss and was really in a slump over it. This made me feel glamorous again and my husband said I was glowing afterwards. Thank you for bringing me confidence in my style again! ❤️

Eternal Garland: I can’t believe how amazing the cut turned out. I’ve been cutting my own hair for a couple of years now but wanted a different look. THIS was probably the easiest and the best cut ever !! It looks like I went to the Salon!!!! Thanks a ton for this video.

Chica and Sunsets: Please don't EVER delete this video, this worked so great for my long layers (basically "fixing" a bad cut I got at salon). THANK YOU SO MUCH for making it so easy!!! -- Jen

Danielle Rodgers: I’ve been cutting my hair with this video since 2019.

Kate Morgan: I have long, fine hair. I have a lot of hair yet still the strands are thinner. I used your technique for the first time today and I couldn't be happier!! It gave me so much volume and bounce! I cut a lot of hair off yet I still have my length and it looks fuller than ever! THANK YOU!!

나리: this is my go to haircut that I’ve been doing since 2017 and the end results always look so good, if you’re looking for a easy long layered haircut to do at home this is it!!❤️

Morgan Jimenez Maldonado: Still cutting my hair to this video several years later. Thank you once again for the great tutorial. My hair always turns out exactly how I like it and like you said, I GET TO KEEP MY LENGTH

sandra morales: I cut my hair with this and I feel so glamourous! Today I did my mom's and she absolutely loved it. Thank you!

Ashwini Maharaj: This is amazing. Really simple and easy and I got it just how I wanted it. Thanks a lot!

Lyndsay Baker: Thank you so much!! I have an undercut on one side but this still works perfectly, and I feel like I can actually maintain my hair now! This means so much, I was so ashamed of it, particularly as I can’t always justify going to the salon, but I feel like I can do this every 6 weeks instead of hating the split ends for months!

Naima: This is *exactly* what I was looking for lol, thank you so much! This makes perfect sense and it’s easy to follow along to ✨

Macy Collier: As a hairstylist I can say this girl did it lol she kinda got me worried when she started cutting an inch below her guide but when she went back in and blended it came out perfect. Kudos for this girl

Esmoray: Every stylist I went to always refused to do what I asked for especially layering... saying I had to cut my hair super short to get the layers I wanted.. started doing my own hair and never went back cheaper and I get what I want lol

Olivia Fo: I am in lockdown where i live and I had layers already that were due for a cut. This was so easy and quick and it looks so nice with my natural curls and when straightened/wavy. I added shorter layers at the face area and blended with your method. Thank you so much for an amazing and easy tutorial! I hate going to the hairdressers so I'll be doing this again next time I need to cut my hair ❤

Nata Nickii: I did it (shorter than she did) and it looks great!! Totally recommend! Even if you don’t have straight hair, it works really well.

Christy S.: This is my new go to video for layers! So easy and it looks great. So relieved to keep my length and my hair doesn’t feel so weighed down anymore. You’re a lifesaver!

Suzannemarie1000: Holy cow. I just cut my hair using these instructions. It took 45 seconds and looks fantastic. Lol. Thank you so much. Now I will send myself a bill for $150.00.

E A: I never go to hair dresser and I haven’t cut my hair in many years so it was really flat and I hated it, but I just cut my hair with this video and I am shocked! I love it! Even though I cut it alot shorter.

flyinvisible: This video is so dang good. Quick tutorial that’s easy to follow and leaves a great result. My thick long hair thanks you!

Blue Raven: Your video is phenomenal! I have really really long natural curly hair down to my waist. Because of Covid I haven’t been to the salon in well over a year! I straighten my hair often so this is a perfect tutorial on cutting my hair! I already know it’s going to come out remarkable:)) Thank you so much for this amazing video, and your instructions were absolutely perfect! I can’t wait to check out the rest of your channel:))

Sara Scott: Thank you for this!! I've been cutting my own hair for a few years now but could never get the layers down! This is a perfect haircut and you are a lifesaver for sharing!

theresa wood: Ok, I NEVER comment on youtube videos, but this was so helpful I felt I had to let you know. I just cut my hair, following your super clear instructions and it looks great. Thanks for skillfully, clearly and humbly empowering people to do things for themselves. In this case, cutting their own hair, but the confidence can translate to just about anything. Thanks again.

GodsRemnant: One of the best hair cuts I’ve ever done! Thank you! So easy to follow!!

Batool alhamdan: I just tried this and my hair turned out really good , the fact that I didn’t lose its length makes me so happy, thank you

Deziree Bustamante: This was so easy to follow and it came out great! Thank you

Elizabeth Breckenkamp: Thank you for your instructional video. I have tried many different tutorials but yours is so far the most helpful one for me and my long layers. I don't want to lose my layers, just needing to trim them to keep my hair looking as feminine and voluminous as possible.

Sofie Anderson: It worked so well for me I love my hair so much!!! It's the exact same length as it was before but instead of a blunt cut at the bottom it's light and flowery and has so much personality!! You've gained a fan and subscriber!!!!

Corrigan Davidson: I had to watch this 7 times but I got a beautiful final look! Thank you so much! ❤

shalekodemono: I absolutely loved this video!!!! I followed your steps exactly as you explained them and my hair looks amazing!! No one can believe I cut it myself!! Such a good tutorial.thanks for this

Helena Zarazúa: wow, this was so easy and it came out so beautiful, thank you so much!!!!

Laura Bonasso: I’ve been using this video to layer my hair for the last 3 years and will never stop! It’s perfect every time!

Esteph: I cut my hair a different way and didn't like how it looked, so I used this video to cut/shape my previous hair cut and I love it!! Thank you!

AlcideIzMine: I cut my hair by myself for the first time & it came out great! Thank you for uploading ❤

Nina Rojkovskaia: I have wavy-curly fine hair and I just did this for the second time, I gotta say it worked SUPER WELL actually!!! I committed to a bigger chop and no regrets at allllll thank you for this!

Sanae K: Thank you so much for this tutorial, I usually cut my own hair but I never tried this technique. It was so simple with excellent results.

Ginger Sweeney: This is perfect!!!!! I am doing this cut this weekend, thank you so much, it’s gorgeous!

maya the bee: This is my go-to video every time I need a haircut. I love my layers. Ty

Brenda Beauty: I just cut my curly hair with this video. ✨Stunning ✨ my hair was looking so boring and now I got my bouncy curls back thanks for sharing

Mikala Kesselman: Thanks for this technique I used it on attempt #2 at cutting my own hair. I love the way it came out! I was so scared to trim & end up with a bob again like the first time I tried cutting my own hair during lockdown. It was a mid-length scraggly chunky mess when I started, always up in a bun. It took me about 2 hours as a total beginner but it was surprisingly easy. Used professional shears & put it into a ponytail at the end how I would usually wear it and cleaned up the ends like she does at the end. I can't wait to be able to do my own trims now! My hair looks thick and healthy. I didn't lose any length; it's still way past my shoulders about the same as before the trim!

Rifat Zabeen: Hi guys! Thanks for all the positive comments which prompted me to try this. I have been having a lot of hair fall, so wanted to cut my hair in this pandemic. I have really long hair, like down my thighs. So wanted to share some tips I thought of after trying this- 1. Cut longer than you think you should: Pretty self explanatory. You can always go shorter for adjustment purpose. 2. Do more layers: If you want to maintain the length of your hair opt for more layers. I did four. 3. Maintaining the equality of layers: Now when you have really long hair it's very difficult to keep track of one inch and if you are taking the hair from the right places. I used one side as a guide as much as possible. You can also try the finger trick, so you just cut your hair four fingers down your guide strand. I cut the last layer measuring with one side than doing the guide trick. Thank you for the video Sheetal! Super helpful!

42_Priti Salve: I saved your video 2 years ago and didn’t have enough courage to try it but in this situation of Pandemic making the most of it by staying indoors today I finally decided to cut my own hair watching your video ( ik I waited for so long ) but it turned out amazing just the way I wanted. Thankyou so much girl . Muaah loved the results ❤️

Maria Hoffmann: Omg!! Its exactly the haircut I’ve been trying to explain in the salon for years and each time they mess it all up or don’t create visible layers. That’s it. I’m so frustrated today and glad I found this. I will learn to do it just the same. Let’s see how it comes out. Thank you

Dhanya Akshay: Thank you so much for this. Most stylists used to advice me against layers as my hair is on the finer side. Tried it out after watching you and realised how easy it is to do a neat job at home! This was my gift to self for this lockdown bday! I don't think I'll ever go to a salon again! Thank you ❤️

Africa by Toto: I’m gonna try to give myself this haircut today :)) update: I did it, it turned out a little shorter than I wanted but still looks super cute and it was easy!! Thank u <3

Fran Sias: So easy and I love the results on my hair! Thank you for the step by step visuals!

Arizona Rayner: thank you!! you saved my life.. i layered my hair by following another's tutorial video and it came out disaster, i was about to cry before i gave myself one last chance by following your tutorial.. and surprisingly it came out wayyyy more better even though i ended up cutting more than i was expected.. highly recommended and very easy steps ❤️

Jiyah: I used this tutorial to cut my hip length hair and they came out significantly short but still it looks incredibly beautiful and voluminous. I love this cut!

Sherry Jako: Omgosh thank you for this tutorial! I have super thin straight hair and was hesitant to try this. I went for it and it turned out amazing! I'm going to cut my own hair from now on. This cut added volume and lovely layers! Make sure you point cut-I did a bit more point cutting than the tutorial to really blend the layers in.

Frosty Paw: in quarantine and so tempted and scared to try this Update: i did it and loved the result

Loujam902: Just tried this and it works very well! Quick and easy!!! Thank you

Allison Bryndza: I've used this video twice now to cut my hair and love it. I had thought maybe it was beginner's luck with the first time but it turned out perfect the second time too. I am so happy to be able to cut my own hair as I don't like going to a salon and they would never cut layers like I wanted. Thank you so much!

Dirty Squirrell: I have been through at least a hundred videos looking for the type of layers I wanted. I've been doing a shorter version of this haircut for a year and I love it. She's very thorough and easy to follow. Try it.

Plenary Grace: This is SO AMAZING!! You have rocked my world! I followed your instructions and my hair came out FABULOUS! This is PRECISELY the cut I have always wanted but never before received from a salon!! I wish I could show you a photo, it came out so gorgeous!!

Larissa Sutphen: Thank you very much for this video! I searched for a while to find the right video when I started cutting my own hair last year. I cut along with this video each time and love the results ❤️

Missy Herron: I LOVE YOUR HAIR! I am definitely going to do this <3 Thank you

Jaye Blohm: I’ve followed these instructions both times. PERFECT! Thank you!

None Ya: I just followed your tutorial and my hair came out beautiful! Thanks for posting this, saved $60 and didn’t lose any length. ❤️

V K: I just cut my hair using your instructions. I am so grateful to you. It turned out perfect! Hello from rural Tasmania, Australia.

Happy Harini: I just cut my own hair after watching your tutorial. I love it. I saw many tutorials but nothing worked or made me satisfied. This style is exactly what I was looking for.

Suzanne: This is awesome, thank you. I have long thick wavy hair, tonight it got so knotty after my shower so I went to this video, copied the same technique and bingo, it worked for me too. My hair feels so much lighter, less thick but still long and pretty - it’s exactly what I wanted and needed. And yes, hair dressers never get my hair the way I want it either. This will be my go to video from now

Rose Marie: I just cut my hair on my own for the first time ever. THIS was exactly what I've been asking for at the salon for forever! Only one person ever did it like this for me, and I had given up hope of ever having this style again. I just finished showering after cutting it and styled it. The styling came back to me instantly and it feels and looks amazing! Thank youuuuu!

alistasia: I just cut my hair and came beautiful!!!! Thank you so much ❤️ for sharing this video I am so happy with my haircut!!!! ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️

Angie Irvine: This is my 2nd cut. I'm so glad I found your video again, I saved it this time.. this cut really works and it's great that I'm not paying for a simple trim.. thanks, Angie

ily !: I just did this and I am in Love ! Thank you so much for the tutorial its really good :) xoxo

Fernanda: Oh my- I did my layers at 2 am and it turned out SO GOOD thank you so much for this video

Lindsey Gravel: just did this in my hair lastnight (my first time cutting my own hair) and it looks bomb!! :D thanks so much!!!

Hayley Gaurill: This LITERALLY is life saving girl! I tried it out and it looks amazing! Thanks for sharing!

Subbu Junior: Hey Sheetal, thank you so much for this one ❤ I did try your method and halfway through I messed up a bit but I tried to mend it and stick to the process and it worked so well ❤ I did it for the first time and I faced a little difficulty in doing the back side of the head. Do you have any tips on how to getter better at that? Once again, thanx a lot ❤

0oklet0n: Ok, so I just did this and it turned out really good, so thank you, I was tired of having quarantine hair lol. I will say though for anyone attempting to do this at home, if you hair is much longer than hers here, be prepared to lose some length to get it to look good. I was willing to lose it, but lost a good 3-4 inches more than I was hoping for (don't get me wrong it looks great) but my hair was also well down past my back which makes it hard to pull it out like this if it goes a lot longer than your arm can even reach. That being said, next time I go for a touch up or anything it will be a lot less difficult to pull off I think. I also changed the 1 inch between layers to about 2 inches to save some length which I think helped also, the layers did end up fairly close together so I probably could have gone for 2½ to 3 inches in between and still had great results. (or figured out how to add an additional layer somewhere in there). Good luck!

Nivi Charms: This is so helpful and worked out very well for me. Thank you Sheetal! ❤

Abi Lea: This looks way better than any time I've had my hair professionally cut

StephanieMinnette Reyes: This is so fabulous i have done this twice now and love it!!! Thank you!

Absolutely Mia: Thank you for this!!! I’ve been doing this for a year now! And it’s my fave hairstyle ever. This is genius!

Minute Mirror: Did this but kept it to only the front pieces in smaller sections since my hair is super long but thinner on one side. :) very happy with it, it was super easy to do. I wanted face-framing layers and no flyaways when I braid my hair.

cristina vega: THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I tried this method yesterday and it came out great. Best part as you mention I keep my length. Been trying to grow out my hair so I been avoiding to go to the salon! For the same reason that I always end up with shorter hair.

pooja mann: Iv just done this omg !!!!! It’s amazing and it’s kept all my length thank you so muchhhh ..!!!!!! Definitely doing my own from now

Romi: Thank you! I just followed your video and I'm very happy with the results! Super easy! You're a genius! Xx

SUPER SHERO: Excellent video! Subbed and cut my "Very Long" hair using your video. Yes, it was scary for sure seeing my long chunks fall, but, it came out Gorgeous...for me...I used 2 inches between layers. The point cutting made all the difference. Very full and lots of volume and body!

Alaleh Torkjazi: I’ve been cutting my hair with this tutorial for the last 3 years and I love it! Easy and beautiful! Thank you

Sable Kelevra: Brad Mondo: "Don't cut your hair at home!" This awesome lady: "Hold my beer."

DownTheRabbitHole: Just did this. I was in a panic when I started cutting so much and it didn’t look just like yours. BUT at the end of it it came out very nice! Thanks! I’ll be using this technique always!

Neha: You're amazing ❤️ thanks a ton for easy beautiful hair cut.. was struggling for this since a long time.

Hope Ard: Don’t ever take this down! Second time following your tutorial and I love it. (I have super fine and very LONG blonde hair)

Jenny Soto: I’ve been using this video since she first made it I love it

Lyn Arguello: I did this a couple weeks ago and am still so impressed and happy the way it came out! This is the BEST cut I’ve EVER had!

Nieves Vargas: I just did mine, it came out great! Thank you

Amanda R.: Thank you for this! Tried it and it came out amazing!

MichG: Okay, what!! This worked sooo well. Thank you for creating this video and allowing us to learn how to cut our own hair at home

Bugsy Luciano: I love it !!! I just did my hair right now as I type this and I love my hair so easy and good for at home cuts cause every time I would get mine done at a hair cutting place they always take wayyyyy too much off my precious long hair and my hair is stubborn it takes years to grow so I’m sooo protective over it !!! But thank you sooo much!!! I love my new hair cut with the long layers

Murky Mornings: So... this was a terrifying experience. But... for someone who has never cut their own hair it turned out surprisingly well and I am really pleased with it. Might do again for next time too

Cee Dee: Amazing results! Thank you so much for sharing this!

Angela Zimdars: Years later & still helpful. Thank you. I've been cutting my hair for maybe 15-16 years since i was a young teen. Ready to do layers. So far the best video yet. I've watch about 20. Was not comfortable to try the other ways. This one is perfect. I can't wait to try it.

Mishila Ashlyn: Thank you so much! My sister usually cut my hair but she moved over 2 hrs away this was amazing. Easy to follow. my hair feels much better. never going to a salon for a cut again! hate when I lose so much length. My sister even used to cut too much off lol

Deborah Ann Reid: Thank you so much for your video. I’ve used your styling method at least 3 times. It comes out beautiful every time. My hair is neck/shoulder length. Thank you

Jean W.: I've cut my own hair for years and years. Watched this 3 years ago and have always done it the same way ever since. All time favorite!

Meena: Just wanted to come back and say thank you for the tutorial! Usually any time I get a haircut I have to wait for it to grow out to like it, but immediately after I cut these layers I loved how it looked.

eclipse: Just followed your video. Cut my own long, naturally curly hair for the first time. Followed close. Love the result. Thank you so fer much. Really appreciate you.
