Hello, my beautiful Tawana Michelle here we live beautifully natural. I do videos on handbags, Beauty and lifestyle and today y'all I'm going to talk about hair, I'm going to talk about natural hair and I'm going to answer this question that I have been pondering for a while, and I actually even did some research of my own And also just use my own personal experience with my hair to kind of come to this conclusion. So, as you can see from the title of this video, the question I have is: is it more important to have a great hair care routine, or is it more important to have amazing hair care products when you have natural hair, I wasn't sure about that. Y'All cause y'all know using the wrong products on your hair can be horrible. I have had horrific experiences with using the wrong product in my hair, so I don't think that you can just use anything in your hair and your hair is going to be okay. However, I'm not a product junkie. I don't think that you have to try every new product that comes out on the market. I like to try some new things. Sometimes I go back to some old things, but if you watch any of my natural hair videos, you may already know, I have my Staples that work for me and I use those every now and then I'll throw something new in there but um. I just noticed that what has really helped me with my hair is creating and maintaining a healthy hair care routine. So I'll tell you a little bit about how I do that and why that has really worked better than for me than actually trying to find the best products. I'Ve actually had some mediocre products that some might not consider that great, but because I Incorporated them into a routine that I use my hair was still moisturized. My hair wasn't dry, my hair wasn't fragile, my hair wasn't breaking and the project the product wasn't the best. It might have been what may be considered a cheaper product, it might have been a five dollar product or even less, but it works for my hair and I maintain a healthy routine with it. So let me tell you a little bit about my hair care, routine and then I'll answer the question, although you probably can already decipher what my answer is going to be just based on what I'm saying. So what I found that works for my hair is one having a weekly wash day and not skipping that y'all. That is so so important. When I skip my wish, when I skip my weekly wash days, I have horrible experience with my hair, because you know what the hair starts to get dry. You know what I do start to put more products in hair and try to moisturize it, but the reality is, the hair is not going to get moisturized by adding more and more and more product. What'S going to happen is that the hair is going to have product build up, it's going to feel like it's, not dry, but the roots, but the strands of the hair is not going to be penetrated by that product. In fact, the buildup of the hair product is going to create a barrier that is not going to allow the moisture in your hair. So you feel, like you, have moisture just sitting on top of your hair. So that's one of the first things that I've noticed when I skip my weekly wash day. I try to compensate for the dryness by adding more product and it just really doesn't work. So that's the first thing that I make sure I do in my hair care. Routine um. The second thing that I do with my hair care routine is I deep condition every time I wash my hair now, let's talk about washing hair. Do I always use shampoo? I don't, I know that's controversial. I use shampoo more than not, but I do have a cleansing co-wash. I have a couple of them, one by Carol's Daughter, one by just as I am they're cleansing co-washes. I do find that they cleanse my hair without stripping the hair. So at least twice a month, I will use that and then twice a month I will use an actual clarifying shampoo, especially if I feel like my hair has gotten a lot of build up. Then I'll use the clarifying shampoo, sometimes I'll, go the whole month and use all shampoo and no co-wash. So that's part of my hair care routine, but also, I make sure that I deep condition and I deep condition in the shower. I don't yeah I used to get out the shower. Um sit under the dryer, deep condition, my hair or I would put like a cap on my on my hair and let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour. I found that that was unnecessary because I get the same results by washing my hair, putting in my deep conditioner putting on the shower cap, the little plastic one. You know where the heat can kind of sit on your head and penetrate the hair um. So I do that, while I'm taking my shower and I'm shaving, I'm taking my time whatever and that's a 10-15 minute process um sometimes longer just as depends on how long I want that conditioner to sit in my hair and so in doing that. My hair is still getting that deep conditioning and I found that I have the same results without having to sit under a dryer without having to um sit with that cap on my head for an hour, and it saves me some time. So I really love doing that. Another thing that I do as part of my hair care routine is I detangle in the shower, when my hair is soaking wet. That is the only time. That'S the only time I will detangle my hair. I used to fingle detangle. My hair, I found that it doesn't detangle as well. I was having more loss of hair. I was having more breakage, so I switched back to a wide tooth comb. So in the shower I will take a wide tooth comb. I will section my hair in four parts and I will detangle the hair and then the next thing that I do, that is a part of my weekly hair care routine. Is I style, my hair, I get out of the shower and I style the hair. While it's still soaking wet, whether if I'm gon na do um twist style a braid out a wash and go um well, let me back up, I style, my hair after I apply both a leave-in conditioner. I do apply oil and butter to my hair to seal in the moisture from the water in the leave-in conditioner, and then I put my styling cream and then I go in with my style. Whatever it's going to be, and then I have a nighttime routine, where I basically will take some oil, usually olive oil I like to use in my hair. I will put it along my edges and I will put it on the ends of my hair and then I will usually either put my hair in a bun or a pineapple or a ponytail, and put my bonding on my satin Bonnet or, and sometimes I do Both because I have a satin pillowcase and I sleep with it and then in the morning I just shake it out and I'm good to go. That is my hair care routine. I have found that if I do that with almost any products, my hair is healthy. If I don't do that, and I have amazing amazing high-end products that we know work well, my hair still isn't looking good feeling good and it's not its healthiest. So my answer to that question is it's more important to have a healthy hair care routine than it is to have amazing products, because, even if you have amazing products, your hair is not going to thrive. If you're not taking care of your hair - and you don't have a scent routine and on the other side of that is, if you have a set hair care routine and you're using products that may be less quality, less expensive, less mediocre, but your hair likes it. You'Re going to get better results, and then I think back to when I was a kid y'all. My hair was the healthiest all of us right before we did so much to our hair, but my hair was healthy. My hair was long and the reason I go back to that is because I know my mama was not spending hundreds of dollars on hair care products a month. I know my mom wasn't using high-end products. We had our staple products. I'Ve talked about this before my mom liked to use cream of nature products. The shampoo, the conditioner, the moisturizer old school grease y'all, I'm gon na. Do I'm gon na do a video on that, because I want to do an experiment with old school grease and see what it does to my hair, but the old school grease. Don'T remember the names of it that my mom would put in my hair and my hair is just fine, but she took care of my hair, washing it regularly detangling it adding that moisture, but not too much protective styles. I don't really do protective styles much anymore. If I did I'd probably retain more length, it just doesn't really fit with my lifestyle um, but that was another thing that that helped and can still helping and still be a part of your hair care routine. So it's really not about the products for me y'all. I think just having a healthy hair care routine is enough. Okay, of course, horrible products. What are horrible products to me? The only products that I have found to be horrible have been gels. I'Ve not found any styling products to be horrible. I'Ve found any conditioners, leave-in conditioners, some shampoos can be too drying and can strip the hair. But I wouldn't even say horrible, because even if those shampoos strip the hair with a leave-in conditioner and with a deep conditioner, you can put the moisture back in your hair. But I have had some gels that have been just awful sticky drying. Just can't do it um, but anyway, girl find a good, healthy, hair care, routine. Stop spending all your money on those products trying to find the right product to keep your hair healthy. To make your hair grow, it's not gon na happen. It'S not gon na happen. What'S going to help you with your hair care, your hair health is getting a good routine. So that's all I had to say. Let me know in the comment section below what you guys think about that. What do you think is the answer to that question? Have you found it more beneficial to have a healthy hair care routine or to have amazing products that maybe sometimes you can slack up on your routine and because your products are so great, it doesn't affect the health of your hair. Let me know I'm interested in hearing about that, and that's all I have guys if you like this video, give it a thumbs up share this out with others who you think may be interested in this topic and if you have not subscribed to my channel what Are you waiting on girl? I would love to have you be a part of this community and that's all I have thank you guys so much for watching until next time take care, bye,

Denice Jarrett: I agree that having a good hair routine is much more important than the products. I’m still trying to establish a consistent routine. Great video

Evelyn Parham: I agree with you. Having a solid hair care routine is more important than the products. My hair routine is similar to yours. I deep condition in the shower too. I also have issues with some hair gels, so I am reluctant to use gels a lot. Your hair is lovely and healthy. So it pays to stick to a routine, keep it simple, and use what works.
