Hey guys today, I will show you how to distinguish between different hair fibers. There are a few out there on the market, but the main ones that you will find rooted on your dolls are Kanekalon, Saran and nylon. Here I have operetta and she was rebooted using the Kanekalon fiber. The way to tell if you have Kanekalon hair is go ahead and feel the hair it's matte. It is not very shiny. It'S very soft and flowy feather like if you take a strand, it actually breaks fairly easily connect alone. Hair does not pass the heat test now, if you take a strand when I go on here and you apply heat to it directly, it will burn in the past. I have curled or straightened and I go on hair and the way I do that is by using either plenty of water or some type of a product, curling cream v protector. And if you're super careful, you can get away with it, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it, and I see here that cinching noises just about to burn, but as long as it's wet you're able to go ahead and run the heat through it. Like. I said it's not recommended, so I would stay away from using heat on Kanekalon hair. Can I go on? Hair is usually found on Barbies now here we have Versace Barbie by Mattel. I believe she was wrote it in the early 2000s and she is rooted originally with Kanekalon fiber. Let'S see it's nice and shiny, but it is not very greasy looking as you would get with the Saran hair. Here we have Madeline Hatter as well as I believe wisp, and these two dollies have been originally routed by Mattel using Saran hair. Now, if you take a look at Saran hair, it feels almost gooey gummy and plastic. You just like saran wrap. So if you touch it - and it feels like that, rubbery kind of you know sticky feel it is surround, it is also easy to break you take a strand and it also gets tangled a lot faster than Kanekalon. Now, let's try the heat test on surround here. Now there we go surround hair heat, so now you can tell the difference between Iran and Kanekalon. Connect align, will burn, Sauron will melt. As with the Kanekalon hair. I have curled and straightness around hair in the past very carefully using water or some type of a heat protecting product. As long as the hair is super wet or we apply some type of a heat protector, we can go ahead and carefully straighten the hair and, as soon as you hear, the singeing you're able to run through it, the steam that you see is is not actually Burning it's helping to contain either does curl or the straightening of the hair, so you can go ahead and do that. But once again it's not recommended. I do recommend staying away from curling the Saran or Kanekalon hair. So here we have an original Bratz doll, which I really did using nylon hair. There are, may companies out there providing my own hair this specific nylon hair is by Kiwi Kiwi doll. Hair is the company I work with the most they supply me with. Most of my hair that I use for rebooting as well as rooting for toy companies. Now, as you can see, it's nice and shiny colorful and the way you can tell if you're using one hair is, if you take a strand and is not very easy to break. Oh, it's the strongest hair, it's sturdy and somewhat heat-resistant. That is the reason I do prefer using my long hair when we routing take a section here, you can see that with the heat test, you are okay. This is my long hair. I'M running the heat right over it without using any product. If I want the crimp or the quote, that cannot complete, I will usually use a little bit of water and using the straightener just go right over it. It'S it nice and straight, and although nylon hair is the most heat resistant, of course you want to go ahead. Put your setting on the lowest heat possible here. This particular straightener is at 180 and you probably do not want to go any higher than that. The higher the higher the heat setting, of course, the likelihood of burning, could happen with nylon hair. So therefore go ahead and use your lowest setting and do use a little bit of water just to make sure that your hair stays nice and smooth, and there is very low chance of any damage to your dolls hair. Okay, here we have Fable thorn and she'll. Be booted her using nylon hair as well she's rooted with a curl. Obviously we will go ahead and see what happens if we straighten her hair out using heat. What I will do is get some water here brush it out a little bit. You can still see that the colors there's not going anywhere, no matter how much I brush it's not a good thing about the nylon hair. It really retains the curl, so you have the curl here. Okay, take your heat go right over that little Times you can see, there is no damage. The hair is nice and straight once you apply the heat, while the hair is still warm, go ahead and brush through it. To get that really nice smooth. Look it's fairly easy now you can go ahead and do the same with your curling iron. You can go right back in with this hair and curl it up once it straightens out. So there you have it my own hair. Well, there you have it. I hope you enjoyed this informative video on different hair fibers for your doll. I hope you can take this information and take better care of your dolls hair, bye, bye,

Mozekyto: Thank you for sharing! Very educational video as always!

Gems: Awesome video, you are really the best YouTube doll hair guru:)

bluexyoshixlove: This was extremely helpful to me for my thrift shop doll finds. Thank you so much!

Бига Егоров: I love you're video! This very interesting <3

Isabella Muse: OMG, I cringed when you did the heat tests. Lol Thanks for the educational doll hair video! My opinion on nylon hair has changed since I've met you on insta. I love the quality that you carry! I personally like some good quality Saran hair! It's best when it comes to "boil washing."

mageguy86: Amazing video, very informative. if i just may add, in my experience saran hair seems to get more hype from companies when they use saran, saran hair looks the most realistic because they aren't too shiny, but i do prefer nylon because they seem to available in a bigger range of color and are easy to style.

Amr Wali: Thanks a lot, this was very informative

Joyce Brandon: Thank you! This was an extremely helpful video. I especially appreciate getting to see the difference between each material's reaction to the heat.

LaéDollChick: Thank you sooooo much! I was trying to figure out what type of hair was best for re-rooting my bratz dolls. Now I feel confident buying nylon.

Grayskull Warrior: Amazing! Thank you Denisa! This was really informative. I've been struggling with my EAH Signature Maddie curls. :(

Sybarite Sphynx: What an informative video! Question : I recently learned that there is “doll grade” Kanekalon hair which is finer than the kanekalon used for human wigs. Is this true? And is there a “doll grade” nylon as well? What would be the advantages of doll grade over using hair from synthetic human wigs?

My Perspective: Back when my daughter was young I got her a Barbie that came with a brush that had a white soft/ smooth glossy hair like fibers. We actually used it to brush my daughters hair. It worked really well surprisingly to keep her fine hair from getting matted. She hated for use to even touch it. Im sculpting an anime character and I would like to use those same fibers because they were thicker and springier then regular doll hair. It could make for a fuller look.

Lillis Doll Dream: Thank you so much for this video. I have been wanting to try my hands on reerooting for some time now, but was really confused as to what kind of hair to use. I like to gather a lot of information about stuff before I start a new crafting project, but really couldn't find much information on the different types of doll hair available. So this video is a huge help. Thank you again for making your videos, I love all that you are teaching :)

Welldweller: This was so great and informative, thanks so much for making your videos! I thoroughly enjoy them and learn so much!

Roren's World: Thank you so much for your help I am thinking of investing in getting to some doll hair to re root my custom Cerise Wolf doll at the mo she has wool/yarn hair.

frozen78: Great video, Denisa. I hate kanekalon hair, but love saran hair. I've always used Saran hair for my dolls' re-roots, as I love the "texture" it has. For me that hair fiber is "fleshy" and that's why it reminds me a well conditioned, thick human hair. Last year I bought 2 or 3 "sets" (for My Scene dolls) of nylon hair. And I also like its texture and shine, etc. My question is - does the KIWI hair differ much than other nylon hair (I think there are 2 types of nylon hair) in terms of quality, etc.? I would be very grateful for your help.

peachiifox: Super helpful! I was always thinking nylon was the one that couldn't take the heat and I was totally wrong. Thanks for the very informative video. You're the best Denisa!!

Diego PM: i love this!! i've always known how to know what type of hair it is just by touching it and sometime looking at it...kanekalon is the easiest to notice

The Doll show: I've actually been looking for hair to use on my doll and this video really helped a lot , so far I really like the nylon hair

Xharaly: Thank you so much!! This is so informative! This is a great video, I can't express enough how usefull this is!!! Thank you!!

Gabriella Marshdevil: Very helpful, thank you! *Almost died when I saw the melting hair in the iron lol

Jenna Dale: Thank you sooooooo much for sharing this critical information. I now know how to care for my doll's hair properly. :)

wallaf oliver: nossa que incrível amei, parabéns amo seus vídeos

ZombieXCorn: Dose nylon have a certain feel?

Tevin TheLifeStyleGuy: My favorite type of synthetic hair is.....FUTURA it's the most premium quality synthetic and it's usually heat resistant to 350-400 degrees depending which type I collect AG too and for the price of those they should've gave them FUTURA hair

Captain Chernihiv: Wow this is probably the best most straightforward explanation I've seen so far.

Patricia Tong: Wow! That is awesome and really helpful!

A: My heart skipped a beat when the hair got burnt

Emila: Did you bought this doll head stand ? Or did you make it ? Can you make a video about how to do it or where to buy it ? I love this kind of acessoires that help us during work :)

CadaverChris: really needed this kind of video, I was clueless! thank you so much

L. P: I've seen kiwi nylon listed as cheaper than saran and nylon hair. Yet kiwi nylon looks similar to the Hollywood Hair barbies hair. As it doesn't look as heavy as saran and has a shine but looks as thin as kanekalon hair. So in your experience nylon would ultimately be the best to reroot barbie? I only ask this as I'm a little scared of how cheap dolls use to get this big of frizz if you brushed it to much. So how does one know what nylon is best

Ner Ravine: Have you ever worked with Jenny dolls? The only doll I have is a Jenny and I find her factory hair to be a pain to work with, but I love to the color too much to reroot! I really need some tips!

Vibranx: If your doll has Saran hair you can use hot water to straighten or curl the hair. There are tutorials online for it. :)

LunarchoCommunist: i prefer using saran hair myself and it curls and straightens fine when using the hot water method. most of the time when i get nylon it feels too bulky.

Dark Side Gemini: So glad I found you❤ I'm just starting out and know virtually nothing about different types of hair fibers.

Alex Boy: thank you so much for your video!! I didn't know there are a couple of types of dolls' hair materials. I need to buy a straightener first and will find out mine and my daughters' doll hair materials.

The Toy Collector: Thanks! I've always wondered! This is very helpful! It's Gigi btw not whisp

Synergy: Do you have any tips on removing the glue that leaks out of some Mattel dolls' heads? I would also love tips on how to style the hair of the Descendants dolls. It seems really resistant to styling! Thank you!

Helena Khudyna: awesome video! thanks for sharing, you just answered my most bothering question!

TheDnicer1: THANK YOU!very informative !

texas1852: OMGOSH! I’ve needed this video for a while now!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Mary M: this was really helpful.... thank you!

amber dietrich: Are you familiar with playground kids from early 1990s? I’m having trouble with the crimped hair, trying to wash it and detangle while maintaining the crimp. I’m still not sure which kind of hair they have after watching your video, are you able to tell From a picture what kind of hair they use? ‍♀️

Izabella YT TV: Does anyone know what type are Ty's horse plushies, specifically My Little Pony? I just assumed nylon (like Hasrbo's MLP) so I decided to heat-style it, but it burned. Does that indicate saran?

Eduardo Caimbro: Thank you for the video. Do you know what type of hair is in the Fashion Royalty line? All in best :)

Bigclitenergy: Thank you very helpful!

Ivan Robinson: Kanekalon burns, saran melts(my heart died just a little when that happened) and nylon is good as long as it is at 180 heat or below for curling irons.

Coccinelle: Personally in my experience with kanekalon hair is the synthetic hair in my opinion that is the most like human hair to me and yes the hair is matte, soft, flowy and feather like but also can be shiny like Nylon and Saran and all hair fibers and the hair is even better with hair conditioner in it makes the hair silky smooth and makes it shiny. The hair can also be Curled,Crimp,Straighten using hair curling tools crimping tools and straightening tools as long as you use the tool on the lowest heat setting and use hair products like heat resistant spray and hair conditioner to protect the hair. The hair can also be Curled by boil washing using straws but use bobby pins to secure the hair onto the straws by sliding the uncurled end of the bobby pin on each end of the straw hole one end in the hole one end on top of the hair but you need to put hair conditioner in the hair to protect it before you put the straws in to make the form of the curls after that you dip the dolls hair in the boiling water to curl the hair and then dip the dolls hair in ice cold water to set the curls let the hair dry and then take the straws and bobby pins out. The hair can also be crimp using hair conditioner on the dolls hair first to protect the hair then using straws by over lapping them making bumps on the dolls hair and using bobby pins to secure the hair to the straw by sliding the uncurled end of the bobby pin on each end of the straw hole one end in the hole one end on top of the hair then dip the hair in boiling water to crimp it and in ice cold water to set it let it dry and take the straws and bobby pins out. The hair can also be straighten by boil washing it but you need to use hair conditioner to protect the hair and so the hair will be easy to brush or comb through after you take it out of the boiling water the hair will look burnt and frizzy but its not cause of the hair conditioner just use your brush or comb to straighten it and repeat till it straight enough for your liking and you only need to use the hair conditioner once but that's up to you if you wanna add more when you repeat it and you don't have to use ice cold water to set it for straightening the hair but that's up to you to. Plus when you reroot a doll with that hair or if a doll already comes with that hair it's much harder to lose a whole entire hair plug from the holes in the dolls head since the hair fiber breaks so easily when your brushing or combing it and yes you usually will break and lose a few hair fibers cause of how delicate the hair fiber is. But the good part of it is the hair fiber will break before your able to brush it or comb it hard enough to be able to pull out a whole entire hair plug from the holes in the dolls head but this will only happen if you always have the hair conditioned by hair conditioner and always keep the hair brushed and this won't happen. So yes basically it's synthetic hair that is close to human hair and will last the longest on your dolls head of course in my opinion that is but as long as you take care of it right by making sure it's brushed out and conditioned.

LPS 3 paws: I’ve heard high quality Syran hair is nice and soft

Mac: This was very interesting!! I'm wondering if there's a way to buy kiwi doll hair!

2degucitas: If you haven't already done so, can you discuss what are the proper combs and brushes to use on doll hair? Thanks!!

Bec: This was a super helpful video!

ZenXLaika: Hey, could there be a chance of being allergic to certain plastic and do all 90s barbies use kanekalon hair? Like tie dye barbie or shoppin fun barbie? I had a weird reaction while washing them my skin got a little itchy and red

unknown: THANK YOU SO MUCH! there really is a video for everything haha!

Sofia Mercado: doll with pink hair and pink skin was Gigi Grant from Monster High

Xavier V.: Thank you so much for this info

BB’s Dolls & TV Archive: After years, I’ve been trying not to burned dolls hair and still making these mistakes. But some hair I did not burn. Can you tell how to protect dolls hair from burning?

Mangplamatada Von yiurs: Do you ever use synthetic fibers on your dolls

HotaruLove: You’re so relaxing to listen to. I bet you talk in all lowercase.

pynky doggy gracie mina: Thank you for this information

nwlman: Denisa hi, I spent a long time restoring a Tressy Doll, I re-rooted her with Saran, I should have used Nylon, Saran won't curl, this useful video confirms this. I will use Nylon in future. I will leave this doll with straight hair

Pearberrie: Very informative!

Machine is Love: Does anyone know which fiber the new Tulabelle ( Integrity) 16" dolls have?

LPS 3 paws: I’ve also heard that nylon hair stretches easily

NicCamp: Ok but you can straighten and curl kanekalon on a low heat setting 180 to 250. I do it all the time doesn't burn. 300. Plus yes it will burn obviously lol.

Little Puff: Is it okay to boil wash all the hair types without damage?

Jessy Micek: Do you know what type of hair the Disney Animator dolls hair is? Moanas hair is so silky!

Pepper Spice: What is the doll stand called you style the doll heads on?

psylegal: I am trying to find out if Kanekalon or Saran was used on the section of hair that glows in the dark on the G2 MLPs Nightglow and Nightshine. It is clearly not nylon as it breaks easily, and is very shiny, which is not the case with glow nylon. Nightglow's glow stripe is curly and Nightshine's is straight. Nightglow's hair actually breaks when combed as the phosphorescent particles are ripped out of the curl. Nightshine's hair just frays, like all glow hair I've seen (I'm not gonna break the strands on purpose!). For both ponies there are little glow bits in the hair when a UV light is shined on it, and I don't see this on jumbo braid glow (which is kanekalon). I thought they were saran, but seeing this video I am starting to consider kanekalon. the ponies were released in 2003. Any ideas?

Ashruka Krusnik: Where did you get that stand you have the doll head on?

Marlenne Ambriz: Omg I love your hair did you dye it white and purple on the ends ? Or is it a wig? Because if it's a wig I want lol❤

Julia Zebrulia: wonderfull!!!! keep going test hair quality, very exiting!

Catalinh Tales: What hair fiber do you think project mc2 dolls have?

Katmare Sparkles: thank you so much Denisa. it is very good to know which hair is which.

LisaTigressHardy: This video just taught me that my Disney Princess Rapunzel doll has saran hair... I tried to straighten her hair and I accidentally melted off a section like you did on Maddie lol oops! Now I know if I use heat to wet the hair first.

Crazy Canadian Cousins: This video was so interesting!

Daniel: What is the type of doll hair that gets tangled and the hairs get frizzy?

Oscar david Lopez c: Which one is the best type to make straighter with hot water?

MONSTER HIGH BOYS: I love your hair types and the best and very beautiful

Kc W: Hello is NYLON HAIR same as the HIGH TEMPERATURE WIRE doll hair ?

Marcos: Do you know what hair type is used for mod era barbies?

Sully Coker: Is there a link to "Kiwi"? I tried looking it up but was only finding their hair through etsy. Wanted to find the company directly.

Daniel Ray: I had a couple dolls whose hair was tangled. No not what type if brush you used or how much you brushed, it would always be tangled. What kind of hair was that?

Rainbows Of Disney: awesome video thanks for sharing

Rebecca_Claire_ Howard: What hair type does Ever After High, C.A. Cupid thronecoming have? I crimped it yesterday and it's pretty much resistant to heat like nylon hair.

Mangplamatada Von yiurs: You have so much doll hair on spools I need those where can I buy that?

Brianna: Can anybody tell me what hair type Disney Descendants dolls have? I bought one form the charity store a while ago and I’m trying to figure out the best way to condition it.

Alexandra Z: I know that you are trying to advertise the nylon hair that you use for rerooting, but you don't do much justice to the other hair types, basically it feels that you're only trying to say how bad they are. For people reading this and are at the beginning of doll collecting/restoring, I've been working with dolls with all types of hair, especially kanekalon and saran. Kanekalon is my top favourite because even if it looks completely damaged and clumped up, it will look amazing with some conditioning and boil wash, AND straightening, if you do it correctly, aka at a very, very low heat level. Nylon hair is going to look very bad in a few years because it's low quality, same quality you will find in a clone type of doll, once damaged you cannot restore it again, adiòs.

YouR BigGeSTniGhtMarE: Is Kat silk nylon doll hair nylon too or is it a different type of hair?

Marjorie Earl Dean: How did you make the tight curls?

Sticky Nut Juice moved: Those spools in the background

Gardenia: Is Maddie OK? Because, wow, her hair was like "goodbye, head!"

Sean Silva: i have ty girlz and ive tried to use heat on them but it just burns the hair an now i know not to do it on them!!! thanks so much!!

Toys and Gaming: Can u tell me what kind of hair operetta has when bought from store the one I would like to curl is dance class operetta please and you are super amazing I have learned a lot from u thanks

Celline Martins: I wanna know what kind of hair do my little ponies have, I'm suspecting it might be kanekalon, but idk

remoirel: Now, i know you're much more of a hair god than me, but the only Nylon hair dolls i have are My Little Pony Equestria Girls ones, and their hair is AWFUL feeling. Feels like pure plastic, almost like a broom, and it gets super knotty at the ends especially. Is that just bad quality?

4321emily 1234: I can't tell does anyone know what hair disney animator dolls have?

Luna and Stella: Where can you buy kiwi hair?

Kyle Nieves: Are you going to upload Darling's video today Denisa?
