Okay, okay, so slip your fingers through, let's get everybody. I am Yamane Girl, Mel. If you are new here, I am a textured hair, specialist and a hair professional. Now I don't always recommend that you cut your own hair, but for the people that are going to do it anyways. This video is for you in previous videos on this channel and share how I cut my very own hair into the shape that you see here, but this video is not about me. It'S about you. You me today, I'm going to hand over my scissors to my sister hi, I'm Anna and I am NOT a hair professional that is very clear. Three inches your hair in this video. I thought my sister, a hair professional, could walk me through my own DIY hair cut we're gon na have to start with holding the scissors cuz. That'S completely wrong: okay, anyways! Yes, we're seeing a lot of DIY hair cuts on the internet right now and the issue with them is: are you really understanding you feel confident in what you're doing well as a professional and from a technical perspective, but to keep it simple? I am going to walk you through it. This is for you guys, I'm risking my hairs for you. So without further ado, let's get to it already so, first things. First, before you get cutting, you need to have a consultation which is basically just a conversation with yourself. You need to establish what you want, so you can determine how to cut the hair Amanda. What look will be going for today? Really all I'm trying to do today is give myself a very light trim, I'm not trying to lose any length, but I do they always say I'm very attached to my length and keeping it that way, but my hair has lost a lot of its shape, since It'S been a long time since my last haircut, so really all I'm interested in is creating some more layering in my hair. You know giving myself a little pick-me-up as well as giving myself some face, framing layers at the front, not exactly bangs, just to spice up my look a little bit more now. Her texture of hair is medium to coarse. She has large amount of hair. You can see on the ends of summer, her hair, the curls are just not there one key there, just not happy anymore, so, keep in mind. The haircut that we're going to be doing today is great for longer lengths of hair like Amanda has here. If I were to try to do the haircut we're about to show you on my hair, it would be a very different situation. That'S why we're not doing it on my hair Amanda's our model so right now what you're gon na have to do is: go and prep your hair, I'm gon na! Have you go wash your hair? Go wash cleanse, conditioned detangle and be right back, and on that note, let's get layering amanda. Is nice fresh and ready keep in mind? We watched Amanda's hair today because she's saying no okay, oh we're giving her a wet cut today because of how she prefers. I'M here menial, it cut. Amanda is giving herself a wet haircut today. So in case you were wondering wait. Why are you cutting curly hair when it is wet, have a full video on why you would cut your hair wet versus dry or vice versa? So if you want more info check out that video, but Amanda does like to wear her hair in many different styles, so this type of haircut will give her the most amount of versatility. We'D love a versatile Queen. Are you okay? I feel kind of excited. So I recommend wearing a cape covering garbage bags, something yeah, you just grab a garbage bag and cut a hole in it and then put your head through, but we're fancy so we're fancy. So let's take a look at our our hairs here. You'Re gon na want to keep these on deck and we're basically going to be doing a variation of the unicorn cuts. Unicorns may not be real, the haircut is and if you've been looking at the DIY haircuts, this has become a very popular one online. But I'm gon na explain it to you and we're gon na be doing a variation on it to customize her hair. But since you are looking to really maintain that length, we're not gon na touch your length, yet we're first going to cut in the layers. If you are looking to adjust your length, you might want to put the length in first and then put the layering in, but I know you want a really soft result. You don't want to be taking off too much we're going to go straight into the layers and how we determine where we're going to cut, because this is very important. You don't want to just you know, start guessing. So before you cut anything, you want to measure: where do you want that shortest layer to sit, and the best way to do? This is also to think about the bone structure that you do have think about what you want to accentuate. I think, for my Caesar and in proportion to the length of her hair, it's nice to keep her layers above her shoulders, but still just sitting a little bit below her chin area, because my sister has a side part and because she also wants Pacific face. Framing and bangs cut your hair. We are going to first section out her base, make sure that you have a towel on deck and also that your hair is nice and wet. This is just gon na make it easier for you to work through your hair. Amanda is also applying a leave-in conditioner. This leave-in is from Crowe Smith. It'S they're, weightless air dry cream. This is just gon na give her some more slip in her hair, make it easier to work through and also keep the moisture in her hair. So what we're gon na do is first find your natural parting. You want to make sure you're cutting your hair for your natural parts so to find your part just brush all the hair at the top back straight back, okay and then give the hair a little bump bump it forward a little shake and where the hair will Naturally, start to split where it is that not your part yeah, that's where she likes to partner hair. So that's how you find your magickal. That'S how you find your part and now we're gon na find her bangs section so because we're gon na clip this area away, okay, so using a comb method, if you turn your head off to the side and you place a comb on your forehead there, okay, Where, where the comb? Okay, where the comb lifts off of your head, so you feel for it where the comb lifts off of your head here here. That is the end of your bang section. So right here you try it. You want to place it right at the top of your forehead right and where the comb lifts off of the head is where you would want to section away so section that off on both sides, I'm going to clip this area away. You look so cute. You look like a little unicorn, so these are the sections we just sectioned the front bangs away from everything else. This is how we get to customize the haircuts and we're gon na go ahead with the bangs first, you really want to start off with a bang. Am i right - and you want to hold your Caesars in your dominant hand, and watch as I do. Okay, just slide right through ring finger now put your pinky on top of the finger holder and just move. Try to just move your bottom thumb. If you can very decent, you can see how long and heavy and at a shape these are. What we want to do is shorten some of the pieces, but you don't want it to look chunky and choppy, so we want to create a nice angle. Defect so short in the middle too long, so what you're gon na do is take a little bit just from the middle like a little triangle off of the part, clip everything else away. Very good. It'S great! I try to tilt your head up. Try not to look down too much and you don't need to pull too tight on your hair. Give it a little bit of slack. So you can determine how it's going to jump up a little bit, but knowing how your hair curls, you know it's gon na curl up about 2 to 3 inches. Let'S cut this just a couple inches below your chin - oh God! Fingers through these are droplets scissors. Whoa whoa, this is gon na, be sure it isn't it no, but these are your shortest layers, so everything else from here is gon na be longer that was so satisfying and one side at a time we're going to release. What I want you to do is pull this hair over here and using that first section that you cut oh you're gon na cut like that: okay, okay, so take your comb! Yeah yeah, that's good and follow the comb and you're gon na really angle. Your fingers on a steep angle, so fingers pointing up this is gon na help to give you that nice slid gradual effect, just cut on an angle like that. Like this yep, oh, my god did. I do a good job. Let'S see didn't do it. If you turn your head to the side and comb it in the natural fall, beautiful ish he's alright fine right ish, so you may be better at this than she is. She doesn't know how to use her hands well. What? But what you are doing here is really over directing so you're pushing the hair to the opposite side. Steep angle of your fingers. I did sure and isn't that exciting. Thank you, so you're gon na do the same thing to the other side. Yeah. I can do this now so she's gon na. Do this one all by herself like a picker and keep in mind when we're doing a wet cut after this Madison a styling hair, as she always does in its natural state and then we'll refine to her specific crow opposite direction. So one step at a time. This is a lay down there in the thick section, we're brushing down in a day no yups direction mm-hmm. But the thing is in your head, so it's not quite diagnosed try to keep your head straight. I am the human industry and push all the hair to the other side, comb right up from the root very important to comb right from the root and so and then follow your finger upwards. So now you're on the opposite side, your fingers are pointing down and you want to cut too I'm [ __ ] good at this. So the test is always let the hair go in its natural fall. So, to make sure it's even when you drag your fingers down the hair, you can feel how much longer it is so here it stopped and I'm going here, but an inch more so cut off another inch. Oh no! This was a pretty good. Now you don't want to go too much right, no, don't go to Cesare happy. I did a good job. So now you want to add in this section again comb it all the way all the way to the opposite direction: okay, and see right here, yeah, so you're, just gon na follow the line that you follow. Your line that you cut, let's eat unequally, it's easy! It'S easy when you have a line to follow and when you have a sister to guide you yeah. Yes, I want to keep your head straight and that's where my hair is make sure your finger angle is down pretty dang. Good was a lot, was a lot. Don'T you much, it was a lot what I mean I did it bad. No! Oh I'm just gon na check it for you. If I want to check it, what I'm gon na do is again take a little triangle section from right in here and just to make sure that it's not going to be too heavy in the middle. You want to pull this all the way up, see that little corner there mm-hmm just cut it there. This is gon na help to layer, the bangs make sure you're holding tightly. You can move the finger down if you need to see what you're cutting across there. So this is just gon na layer, my bangs. This is gon na help to layer your bangs. Now, if you take a look when everything falls in its natural position, I'm gon na have some really nice they're gon na be shortest by your face and go to longer, and we did that because of pushing the hair whenever you're over directing the hair so pushing It in another direction it's going to affect the shape, so here we had created a short to long shape, which is a round shape when we continue the haircut we're gon na be moving on to the back now. We'Re gon na gather all those andis hair into a ponytail at the top of your head. We'Re joining you don't worry. This is gon na be very similar to the unicorn cut, so it's gon na be fast. It'S gon na be super fast now, you're excited because you're probably a little bit nervous about the bangs right Wow. I don't trust you putting them down. So if you're, looking for a haircut that is going to be shorter in the front longer in the back, unicorn haircut can work for you. So, with the unicorn cut, we bring all of this hair forward and cut where my finger is cut right here and we bring this back. You'Re gon na have lots of layering in the front, but this hair back here, she's not gon na get as much love. The back of Amanda's head is extremely heavy, and this is why we went ahead and did the bangs first we're not going to be putting him his ponytail at the top of her forehead, we're gon na place it at the top of her head. This is my little mean this way. The hair back here is unraveling all the way here and make you guys warm and you can cut a little bit more off the back. So that's gon na give you a lot more lift. This is the milk cut, we're still working on the name, so we don't want to ruin the bangs that we just put in. We do want to clip those aways unicorn unicorn, except you know this. Isn'T the unicorn cut? Okay, so you need to brush all of your hair. This is very important. You really want to make sure that you can brush all of the hair from the root up to the top of your head. If you keep your hand where you want the hair to be Oh easier to brush, so just keep gathering the hair, it is as smooth as possible, and I won't let you stop until you get it like. When you're kicking a soccer ball, you follow through I'm trying there's a star as part of the haircut it's putting your hair in here. If you have as much hair as me and very cautiously put the ponytail in you, don't want to twist the hair around too much make sure everything is still nice and smooth does all be changed. You know that should be fine, so the back of Amanda's hair is at the back of the ponytail. The front of the men's hair is at the front of the ponytail and to make sure that the hair is in the right place feel up the ponytail. So I'm gon na pull this strand here. Where is this pulling from back your head, and this strand here we're just pulling from the front of your head so we're in motion? You really want to again now that it's in the ponytail just don't want to brush this all forward. Your neck hurts heavy. Your hair is my hair is heavy later it's gon na be after this, and just like we did the top layers. You are going to cut off three inches three inches you're here three inches. Well, no. I thought we weren't going that a bunch of link to they're all layers. This isn't late. This is later, oh, okay. So the thing that seems scary see how she does that's. What seems scary, when you're putting in layers that haven't been cut in a long time or if they've never been cut, you're like how much am i cutting off, but it's not going to reflect on the bottom? Not when your hair is this long? It'S not cutting the perimeter, your actual length, it's just helping to give you shape yep, so just brush your hair up, okay and pull straight out. That means everything is aligned, and I want you to pinch your fingers right here, Amanda and that's. What'S going to be cut off, okay, are you ready? Can I cut it down? You just cut it good here, follow your fingers. That was a lot was it it was a lot. I did it now. Let'S take a look at it once it's all down. Let'S take a look at it and I know you're not trying to remove any length again. We just cut layers right now. We didn't cut any length yet, but we do want to make sure that the ends are slightly trimmed, so we're gon na. Do that part? First and then you will go and style your hair as usual. Let'S let it all down, so you can see what we're working with whoo. It worked. Oh my god. I hear short right. It only looks short because everything is brush. Okay, oh my god. Better backs better, not be this pretty short, it's not! This short relax, Wow how's that for length it still looks fantastic. Well, we do need to make sure that we trim the bottom. So in order to trim the bottom, I thought we're done. You haven't trimmed the edge now we want to trim Juno's the tips, oh the edge we put in the layers first, because you knew we wanted to maintain the length. But now we just need to trim a little bit off of the length. So your hair is split all the way down in the middle in the back. So it's evenly split here, just like when you were doing the layers remember if the hair from the back is being pulled all the way to the front, it's gon na be the longest and the front is gon na, be the shortest. So if we pull all this hair to the front and cut a straight line here when it comes to the back you're gon na get this v-shape okay, if you don't want as much of a beam, you want more of it, you I'm gon na. Have you turn your head over your shoulder straight, but turn your head over your shoulder and then comb your hair, okay and then cut a straight line, so it's gon na be more rounded: okay, yeah, my one enemy, no, no, and to keep yourself straight. Remember: you're! Looking right over this, shoulder and you're going to be doing the same head direction over the other shoulder okay, this way you don't result in crooked hair. Okay, so keep in mind where your head is. You want to keep it nice and straight, but over your shoulder, make sure everything is combed straight downwards, just straight down this straight down. Not for me we're keeping it simple straight down: okay, you're gon na follow with your fingers like so and trim just the tip and then can I can. I pull it up to my shirt, just like this yep good good, good, now, you're gon na do the same to the other side, I'm tilting my head, just in line with my shoulder mm-hmm brushing downwards. Now, I'm gon na take the comb brush everything downwards yeah. Let'S show everybody the back: okay, nice and healthy. Now we'll refine it once your hair is styled, so BRB tada, Oh style, it feels so good. Now, let's just I guess finish it off. So if you were looking to adjust any pieces, yes add a little bit of extra framing or anything now is the time. So what I usually like to do is I'll take the front section of your hair, so only from what's in front of the ear turn your head to the side and with everything laying and it's natural fall. Just make sure that you like that angle and if you don't, if there's any pieces sticking out, then you will hold the scissors and I'm going to teach you how to slide cut. So any very swift motion, you're gon na very gently open close. So should nobody close open, close open close, so if there's anything there might not be, but I see right in here, I would trim this curl in this section right here. So what you're gon na do is you're gon na hold this section. Mm-Hmm you're gon na take the scissors now pointing downwards you're going to open and close open, close open and close yeah perfect. Oh just like that. As you slip down - and I would do this - one too yep just make sure you get all the little hairs and you want to test it by just moving the hair around to make sure you see. Oh, that's lame, but it's looking really good. It looks fabulous and we'll turn to the other side, so just the section in front of your ear. Besides looking really good, maybe you want to do just this curl a little bit just on the end and there you have it a long, layered haircut yay. I have so much more shape. I love it. I can't stress enough how easy this process was. I'M really honestly really impressed on how much layering and it got the exact sheets that I love and that my sister usually cuts. So I'm really really happy about that. For the circumstances that we're all in right now, I think this is a great and easy way to achieve sheep back in your hair and leg back in your hair and just give yourself a good pick-me-up. I feel so much better and I'm very very happy about it. Thank You Cesar. I barely had to look to think yes give you break and because I know you guys are going to ask I'm going to show you what I styled my hair with. So you guys saw that I prepped my hair with a curls with air dry cream, then to follow after my hair was all cut and finished. I styled with the hold me softly' style balm, and then I topped it all off and finished it with the with curls mess, curl defining souffle, and if you want to know exactly how I style my hair, we do have a video and I'll link it right Here, so thank you so much for tuning in. If you want to see how I cut my hair, it's a little bit differently. I do have a video on that. So love directly there and any other videos that you might want to see. That will be helpful to you will be linked below that's all for this week until next extra Tuesday baby. Let'S do this, I'm gon na. Do it unsafely for you guys and risk my life and my hair. All right hold your horses. There. Okay, people are already you're, scaring the kids alright. So, Oh probably no. Okay, that's, Oh God. We'Re really gon na get every angle here! I'M sorry! I didn't mean to do it. Yes, you did. I didn't, I feel kind. They say because it looks really satisfying to cut your own hair like or just to cut hair in general. For that satisfaction, I'm excited to teach you how to do yours. I do it anymore and you still doing it. This is only for the video no she's, not ready. Oh it's gon na say I'm really excited to do this because I haven't had a long time, yeah just brush the top back and then pump it forward. I understand I could just do it. So, oh, no! So using a comb - oh okay, I'm doing it Lissa, I'm doing it now, holding the comb from the middle place it at the top of your forehead, no place the comb at the top. Your forehead just just leave it flat just place it flat to your head. Like this okay, I can do it up. Sorry. Are you able to do yes? Okay, so watch my hand. Oh okay, okay, I'm gon na walk you through it. Okay, Oh God, so don't need you practice holding the scissors before this, but I just did it right. You won't learn. I must make some mistakes, so mistake: you're, good, I'm not trying to make a mistake. There is hideous, it doesn't look like there's as much as there is honestly. So I'm just gon na go chicken GG and then done yeah. I did it. I did it

Gena Marie: This is so helpful ladies! I have the same shape as Amanda and I’m way overdue for a trim. Itching to do it myself lol

Katie Service: I can appreciate Mell trying so hard to stay in "teacher mode" and not just take over. The urge is so strong! Lol Great job guys!

Gena Marie: This is so helpful ladies! I have the same shape as Amanda and I’m way overdue for a trim. Itching to do it myself lol

Isamar Rodriguez: Ugh having a seeester as a hairstylist must be great

Amanda Guido: HAPPY TEXTURE TUESDAY EVERYONE!!! This videos shares as a reminder that if I can do it, you can do it!! With the help of my seester's tips of course! Let us know if you would try this at home and make sure to tag us on Instagram if you do with your results!! Thanks for watching

Just Me: Love how happy Amanda looks each time she has the scissors

Yaribel Mejia: Shes the Brad Mondo of curly hair

Chandra Louise: Amanda constantly complimenting herself of how good she did melts my heart

Alexandra M.: "for the people that are going to do it anyways" she knows us

Julia Spinolo Hoath: Just did this cut tonight and WOW I am so happy with the results! I’ve never asked for the face framing/bangs before because I was too nervous but now I have them and I LOVE THEM!!! This was so doable and so worth it. Thank you Mell!!

Robin Scheffler: This is an AMAZING tutorial! My hair is less curly & thick than Amanda's (2a/b curls) but about the same length, and the cut turned out really well - I was actually shocked by how on point the layers are! Very easy & fast, and the details about what each step accomplished gave me the confidence to trust what I was doing. Honestly one of my favourite haircuts I've had, thanks Mel ☺️

Jordyn Miles: THANK YOU MELL!! I was trying to decide between the pigtail cut and the unicorn cut and ultimately decided on the unicorn because I have REALLY long curly hair more similar to Amanda's than yours (I'm 2c,3a,3b). I just cut it yesterday and am IN LOVE. I hadn't cut my hair in SIX years because I had such a bad haircut last time I went to the salon. Let me tell you, my hair was needing this so badly; after six years my ends were looking ROUGH. I could tell the bounce was back immediately, and I saved myself the $100+ that my hairdresser would have charged me. Thank you so much Mell, I am in love with my hair again, and it's all thanks to you!

Cathy Lindsey: So I tried trimming my curly hair last night. Must say I’m pretty happy with it. You and seester gave great instructions!! I haven’t cut my hair for over two years cause I can’t find anyone that understands curly hair can’t be “just” cut like straight hair and after they cut it they immediately want to straighten it!! Thanks you ladies!!❤️

Jennifer Guevara: Cut my hair again using this tutorial. Most detailed one I have even seen. As always, Mell never disappoints. We love you beautiful seesters

Наталья Л.: Hi, Mell! I've just done this haircut and so satisfied with the result! Thanks a lot!

Beth Johnson: Thank you so much! I followed this tonight and it worked out beautifully, Amanda's hair is the closest I could find to mine. This helped so much!

Lavye Hayes: I just want to say that I have long curly hair and have watched TONS of tutorials on this This is one of my favorites!! Very good! You guys have gorgeous hair! Thanks for the tips!

TMart40: I did it! I watched your about 10 times and practiced the comb placement about 20 (you mess up your curly bangs, you’re crying for months) but it worked! Thank you so much for this quick and efficient cut.

Christina Cruz: I have the same curl type and length as Mel's sister. I tried this technique and honestly it's AMAZING. It turned out great! Thank You SO MUCH Mel, definitely will be using this from now on ❤

Joasia De Leon: Thank you so much for this video!!! I watched it like 30 times before I decided to cut my own hair. Then I dissected each step so I wouldn’t mess up! Lol! Over all I cut maybe an inch if that and it came out amazing so refreshed! If I had an insta I would have shown you but I don’t so yeah that’s that. Thanks again!!! Definitely trying this again!!!

Aurora Borealis: You just saved me from the worst haircut I’ve ever had, I went to a hair dresser who was dying my hair and as I hadn’t had a hair cut in quite a while, I asked her to give me some layers….I immediately regretted my decision, she game me blocks! I was horrified and on top of that they charged me a lot of money and me being me and not wanting to cause tension, I paid it….I felt really embarrassed of my haircut and didn’t know where to turn as I’ve just moved into this area and there are no curly specialist so I took to YouTube and found this video and now I love my hair again, Yay!…until I find a suitable hairdresser I will be cutting it myself using this video…I actually showed a pic of your hair for the colour and they where so far off, they bleached my hair and then gave me bronde hair, I’m not impressed…is there anything I can do at home to give my hair some dimension using toner?

Lyn Landon: I watched this video 4 times over the last few days. Decided to do it today. Holy DANG my hair looks so good! I haven't had a "real" cut in almost 2 years now, so I'm ridiculously jazzed at how nice and tidy it all looks again. Thank you Mel and Amanda! I know this is a year late, but here we are.

Debbie Teo: Thanks Mell and Amanda! I been doing the unicorn haircut for a while but I wasn’t always 100% happy. I’m going to try this!!!

LemonadeLaura: I just followed this tutorial yesterday. I really took my time with it, and I really REALLY loved how it turned out. My waves/curls really reacted positively to the layers too. I'm sure it's not a perfect job, but I honestly liked it better than my last few salon visits. Hopefully I can replicate it next time :) Thanks, Mell! <3

Erin Elle Mott • 36y ago: I’ve been doing the unicorn cut on my hair for a few years now, I just gave myself one last week cause, ya know, quarantine. But I imma tweak it some more tonight with y’all’s technique! This is genius, good job girls!

Jordan: I am so thankful for this and all your videos! I did it! I followed along and cut my own hair. Super empowering really. Turned out beautiful.

lily8230: Just used this tutorial to cut my hair myself for the first time ever. It turned out even better than I thought it could. Thank you for posting this!

victoriyuh: i got my hair cut (and a colour correction from my own bleach fail lol) by Mell about 2ish years ago and it completely changed my life! she taught me how to style it to showcase my waves/curls and i get compliments on my hair so often now- before i honestly thought it was just a frizzy mess because i damaged it so much but now i can literally wash and basically go. i’m going to try to do this hair cut now since it’s been a while! thank u!

Gemma S: Thankyou Mel! My last two hair appointments have been cancelled due to lockdown, my hair began having a meltdown this week. I followed this tutorial, along with olaplex, my hair is happy again x

Saman: I just did this haircut (I have the same texture as your seester but like 1/5th of the amount of hair) it was super easy to follow and the results were so good!! I actually prefer the outcome of this cut to the one I have from my hairdresser for £100 at a time

Brandi Southworth: Eeeek! I did this haircut on myself this morning! I absolutely LOVE it.

Alita Tarbox: I am sooooo thankful for THIS PATICULAR VIDEO! I have hair JUST like Amanda... the length, thickness, coarseness, curl type and this video shows how to cut exactly what I'm wanting! Magnific!

Lora Cantley-Vaughan: I did this cut and it turned out great! Who knew I could cut my hair better than a professional can. I've had so many bad experiences with hair salons and cutting my hair. Thanks Mel!

Kelsey Smith: I tried this out today and it turned out much better than when I did the unicorn cut previously. The face-framing layers made all the difference. Thanks!

Abigail R Matambo: I have already tried the unicorn haircut and I’ve liked my results. Now this is going to take it to a whole other level

Gloria Lisenbe: I did it and had SO MUCH FUN! And my cut is bomb. Thank you. Also both of y’all’s personalities are so enjoyable!!!

Natalie McCarthy: Mel's look of quiet horror is everything.... I'm watching again and again to prepare for my diy trim

Amy Luke: Thank you thank you thank you for this video!! I have curly hair and the other tutorials for layers did not factor in curly hair. I used this method and now my hair is perfect!!! My curls are back!!! You are awsome!!

Monkeyslipperz: Mel you are a LIFE SAVER!!! My salon is closed and my hair is wild so thank you soooooooo much for doing this video! I totally ❤️ you right now! Keep doing your thing girl, I have learned so much from you in the past few months catching up on old videos than I ever have trying to find info online. QUESTION: if you want a more dramatic layer doing the semi-corn technique which way would you angle your fingers to gain a sharper layer?

Jessica Willison: I did this today and it was slightly terrifying but so necessary. Thank you Mell & Amanda for making this video - I would have never had the guts to do it alone! I made my husband watch the video twice (once before and once during) to act as a second set of eyes to make sure my technique was as described. I took off much more length, but so far I'm happy with my results and looking forward to lighter, bouncier curls (and no more headaches from all that heavy hair)!

Tamara Fandrich: Not only are you two seesters the cutest, but I love seeing Mel trying not to take over! I watched the whole video twice and then brought it into the bathroom with me so I could follow step-by-step and trimmed my own hair for the first time! Thank you Mel and Amanda for your amazing videos! My curly hair has come such a long way thanks to you both!

nobilitas: I did it! My hair was a very similar length to Amanda so I saw this and I thought, it's time... I have been cutting my own hair for about a decade but my texture hides bad haircuts easily so I never learned how to do it well. This method was so easy and it gave me a fantastic shape with lots of versatility just as promised! Thank you Mell!

Sara M.: I just cut my hair yesterday using this method and it turned out great !! So easy to do too ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you Mell and Amanda!!

Lettie Konfetti: Amanda looked so offended when you told her she stank You did great Amanda! Thanks for sacrificing yourself for our education You're an awesome teacher Mell ❤ If I ever try to cut my own hair, I'll definitely use this video for instructions

Daniella Rubbo: I have never cut my own hair, but I just tried this on my own and it was such a huge success!! Thanks Mel and Amanda!!

Ti Snyder: Mell should do "Curly Seminars" and teach us how to do this live, i would pay soooo much for that

Elizabeth White: Used this video to cut my curly hair and it was honestly amazing! It was easy, quick, and I'm loving the cut!! Thank you!!

wehibebs: Thank you Mell and Amanda!! I followed this video for my own hair and my cut came out so cute!! I love the seester videos :)

Jessica Fornear: I followed this video and cut my hair today and I am so THRILLED with how it came out!!! Thank you so much for making this simple and easy to follow! I’m so happy I found your channel! Thank you thank you thank you!

KimoyaFTW: Your seester has more hair in her bangs than I do on my entire head

Iris Benitho: Your sister literally had the same hair as me! It’s really assuring to see her get help from a professional like you. Growing up with curly hair has been hard. Every time I walk into a neighborhood salon, I’ve always been given a deathly eye glare or chased out. It’s insane. I’ve only found one person who can cut my hair without getting scissor happy.

Sabina Bujold: OMG I did it, and it looks fabulous! I have fine curly dyed blonde hair and the layers in the front look beautiful. My little curls just sprung to life again and my hair looks so healthy. I haven't cut or colored my hair since January, so I really needed this. Thank you Mel

Jessica Leslie: Thank you! I just did this cut in lockdown and it was great. My head feels lighter, and the layers work well.

thebardess100: Just tried this today...WOW!!!! This is literally the first time I've had/done any kind of cut since starting to wear my hair curly last year and I CANNOT believe how well it turned out!! Getting the bangs section sorted out was (for whatever reason) a bit of a challenge, but after that it was all good (thanks to your awesome direction)!!! Thank you Mell (and Amanda)! I've learned so much from you thus far but this tutorial by far was the best!!

Megan Davis: Just cut my hair with this tutorial again! I’ve used this one countless times for mine and my curly daughters hair. Couldn’t even tell you how many times I’ve had my hair completely messed up by a stylist over the years. Often by many self proclaimed “curly hair specialist” … I know we’ve all been there! Thanks so,so much for this tutorial! Turns out wonderful each time.

Christina: Thank you! I did this cut on my hair, following step by step, and it was great! The curls are so much happier now & it got rid of the severe V shape. I love it

Izzy Strachan: Thank you so much ! Ive never cut my own hair before and I havnt got it done in years my hair has been desperate! I love the outcome, thank you for making such a comprehensive video to follow!

Rose Muller: Great vid from my fave seesters!! After seeing your colouring videos and this styling video I actually feel confident enough to completely colour and cut my own hair.

imthepaigemaster: This brought me so much joy! Thank you both for making this tutorial. Mell, you reminded me of my older sister. You two are hilarious. I loved this. I was so entertained and engaged and now I am ready to cut my curly hair. Thanks for sharing! #Sisters

Lizbet PCB: Could you two be any more adorable? I seriously doubt it! I LOVE seesters videos. This is my new favorite Getting my fingers into the sceessors properly will be the challenge, but I’m gonna DO IT! Thanks, Amanda (and Mell!)

Rumy Rouge: Thanks girl! Love how you’re always so thorough. Just the video I was looking for. I’m trimming my hair today! Wish me luck ⚔️

Courtney: Mell: “And remember, we washed Amanda’s hair today because it’s stank” Amanda: Y’all crack me up. Great info today!

Mmax87: I did it!! I cut my own hair and it looks great, thank you so much for this great tutorial, and also the laughter! :D

myracof: I have sisters so I thoroughly appreciated this. Their reactions to each other made me laugh so hard.

Yazi: Mell, for all the months I've been watching your videos, my hair routine has improved IMMENSELY and so has the state of my hair. I have you to thank girl Thanks for everything!!

Sherry Weiss: This is amazing! I actually tried this video last year and just loved the outcome. I’ve gotten many compliments! It’s time to revisit it once again for my annual trim. Since I was so satisfied with my layered curly hair, I am looking forward to another go at it. It was actually the best curly cut I’ve ever had! I have recommend this video to others who have had fabulous results as well! You two sisters are simply adorable together and did a great job! Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial! Its easy and very doable for many of us who are not too comfortable trimming our curly hair at home. ❤️✂️

Ana Alvarez: I re watch this video every month to give myself a trim and it works perfectly ❤️

Cred X: This video is everything! I love you guys. The seester dynamic is awesome (I have sisters and I lived every minute of this) The content is also excellent. Amanda’s hair came out amazing. But you two are sooo entertaining and beautiful. I love sisters!

Laura Crazy Hat Discoveries: I tried this cut and it turned out fantastic! Thanks so much for sharing all the tips, tricks and product recommendations. You gals entertain and teach me new techniques all the times! I don’t miss watching your videos you’re both great. Thanks again! ‍‍♀️

Jennigma: Thank you so much for this!! My hair is wavy with a chance of ringlets, and it's very fine, and there's a ton of it, and it's so hard to get a good cut. It had been a year since a particularly bad cut when the quarantine started, and my hair was getting caught in my waistband, and the ends were nasty. I took off 3" and fixed the framing around my face following this guidance, and I love it!

Claire Tibbetts: I tried this out on my long hair that hasn’t been cut in 3 years. I have never had layers in my life so I think I was too chicken to cut enough off, but even with my mediocre job it helped my waves so much! Thanks for this tutorial!

Gili Raz: I just tried this haircut, and my hair has never looked better! Thank you so much

Holly Foster: This video just saved me well over $100. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Very clear instructions and great results. I now have new bangs and layers!

Rachel O'Brien: I would die to have Mell cut and style my hair!

Savina Bello: Seester goals honestly! Both hair and personality! Thank you both for this tutorial, I may just do this in a few weeks!

Carolina Socarras: Mell Thanks to you I’ve decided to embrace my wavy curly hair and stop straightening. You not only teach how to properly care for curls but to love ourselves and be proud of whatever hair type we have. Thank you!

spantzz69: you guys are a blessing. i probably wouldn’t be cutting my hair at home if it weren’t for the pandemic, but having these videos is incredible! i have learned so much about my hair thanks to y’all, and feel so confident about giving myself a ✨trim✨ at home

Melissa Gant: Just watched this tutorial and decided to go for it... it came out perfectly!! Thanks Mell.

Sarah It’s me: Thanks so much for this video and all your other videos and advices. Thanks to you I’m loving my curly hair. Mel, Amanda, you are truely curly heroes!!!

daniela parra: This is GOLD for us quarantined begginers, graaaacias

Shark Bait: I love how awkward but inspired Amanda is. You're a great instructor Mel. Lovin your videos Ladies!

Sariyah tyus: I did the “unicorn cut” a couple weeks ago and I’m going to go in more refined with this way!! LOVE IT.

Ballerina Blush: I just did this haircut with my husband and wow it turned out amazing I did the U-shape as well thank you so much girls!

Mary Frangie: Mel, you’re awesome, thank you for the cutting demos! My hair looks like your sister’s, almost same curl type (2b, 2c, 3a) and long length, but much finer and less of it. To get a style similar to her “after”, would you recommend I follow this almost-unicorn method or the 2 ponytail method you used on your hair? I have strong curl pattern but not a lot of natural volume. Thank you so much!! Also, where do you live, maybe you can be my new stylist, I’m in the Boston area.

Rosario Hudson: I have been studying all your videos for weeks now & this video was exactly what I needed before I cut my own hair & I’m super happy to say that with your tips & tricks I LOVE how my hair turned out. Thank you again for all the videos you & your seester have been posting. Stay safe

Amber Abbott: This was awesome! I don't think I'm brave enough to do it myself, but I know others who will!! Thank you Mell and Amanda!

Jennifer Garner: Discovered you yesterday, so so so glad I did! Been watching a few vids and I can’t wait to start doing the do’s and not the dont’s to make my curly hair the best it can be. First off with a layer cut. THANK you my new curly hair goddess

Sian Cook: I did this! I chopped a good lot off and my hair is so much happier for it, results are amazing thank you seesters <3

Carmen Ellingson: Mell! Thank you so much for this tutorial. Amanda! Thank you for volunteering. I just cut my own hair for the first time and I’m in love with it ❤️ my own texture is much like Amanda’s, just a bit more relaxed, so this was a great learning tool.

Alaina Hawes: Not only are you super talented...you're an excellent teacher as well. Great job!

Deitra Banning: I love this cut! I haven't used my shears on my own head in a long time!

Chelsea Ellis: I did this today and I’m so glad I did!! My curls are defined more the shape is perfect and this was a needed pick me up... I love it. This technique is so much better than the traditional unicorn haircut... I have tried both

Kate: Love your videos! I’m going to try this tonight, my hair is very similar to your sisters and I think I’ll benefit from this very much. I personally can’t find anyone in my area that can cut curly/wavy hair. Thank you for the detailed explanations

Kate Tinnan: 2 years after you uploaded this I finally tried it. My hair had gotten soooo long and was so scraggly and weighed down with no volume up top. I was really nervous but this video was clear enough and I so appreciate that you did it in real time with what looked like no rehearsal so I could see how someone who had never cut hair would do. My hair cutting scissors are not the best so the ends might be slightly uneven but probably only noticable to a hair specialist such as yourself. The length is great, the layers came out great and my hair got its bounce back! So appreciative to both of you for sharing this!

Keira Shantry: Amanda: that was a lot?!?!?!? freaking out Mell: giggling God I love seester videos

Mel L: Hey hey, I watched the video twice then followed along with scissors: my hair looks SO bomb! I added a high pony pass at the end because I wanted more layers in the back. Thank you!!! Now to walk around my house and show it off to...

Sindee B: I did this today with the help of my daughter. THANK YOU my curls are defined and I have layers again and thanks to you I still have length

Ana Alvarez: Amanda’s hair a bit curlier than mine and my hair cut came out so nice !!!! It was getting too flat in the back .I watched this 5 times to be prepared and it worked out great !!! Thank you

Meg K: Happened upon your channel a week ago and I've been binge watching ALL your videos. You're amazing and thank you so much for putting up such great content. You've really given me the confidence to begin taking care of my curly hair! Great video as usual, thank you again!

jannekje7: I just did this trim and my front pieces have never been this good! Thanx seesters!!
