♥Come behind the scenes as I cut my own hair. It's not as challenging as you might think! The key is to have two good mirrors and good lighting - and in this case the iPad was standing in for the second mirror - so that made it a little more challenging. But I think you can still get the idea that this is something some folks will be able to do.

♥I'm using a #3 cutting guard on the clippers, which is 3/8 of an inch or 9.5 mm. And yes I already know the clippers need adjustment, and I suppose I will eventually need to replace them - but I'm in no hurry to do that. I'm also using a small fine comb, a regular barber's scissors, a pair of thinning shears, and a glass of water.

♥Super short minimalist hair is not for everyone! But for those who are interested or curious - this will help. It won't give you the thirty five years of cutting hair (my own and others) that I have... but it will help.

♥The funny part is... I've grown out my hair since I made this video. So if you see me out and about (or here in a video) you'll see me in various stages of growing out this pixie cut. I am finding (much to my surprise) that I can have super simple minimalist hair at any length. I don't think I believed that was possible when I made this video.

Hi there my name is Carmen shank and I wear a super-short hardcore, minimalist hairstyle and I have four years and I cut my own hair. So today, I'm going to take you behind the scenes and show you how I do this super simple. So why do I keep my hair so short in a super ultra simple hairstyle? Well, number one! I don't need a lot of haircare products to make this work comfort. It takes absolutely. I mean my styling consists of doing this. Basically, that's it! That'S what it takes to style this time. What do I have bad hair days? Well, I don't know it's that a bad hair day. I mean it does what it wants to do and I don't fight it. So that's the beauty of it. So I love it because I don't use a hair dryer flat iron curling iron, I'm not trying to fight it into submission. Basically, I have thrown in the towel. I do not fight my hair anymore and that's the beauty of a super simple super short hairstyle like this. So let me show you how this works. Alright, let me show you the tools you need to make this happen. We'Ve got a hair cutting device and an attachment okay. This goes on here like so, and then snap okay done, this is the largest one that comes with the cutter, that's the one I'm using. Secondly, traditional tools of cutting hair scissors and comb, so this works like so all right and the comb should have a tail on it. Let me show you how this works. Okay, so you pull up the hair with a comb and then you would cut it with the scissors. Okay, that's those are the basic haircutting tools for your hair for hairdressers everywhere now. This next pair of scissors is the difference between a crew cuts and a hair cut with some finesse. Okay, these are called thinning, shears and they have teeth, and I will show you precisely what these guys do in a minute, but these are the key. These are the key okay. Actually, the things that I use most in this arsenal are this and this - and I could do this haircut with probably these ethical, but let's not oversimplify, sometimes oversimplifying these up complicating. So, anyway, here's the tools - and let me show you the before okay, so you know what you're what we're talking about. This is what the long see here, where it's getting long all right. Let me show you how this works, I'm going to use the mirror behind me and the camera as the my front mirror. Okay, it is important to have two good mirrors to do this with trying to do it with with only one mirror is challenging, but it can be done so I'm gon na go ahead. Let me show you what we've got here. I'Ve got super short here, some stuff that needs to be trimmed here again, super short up until we get to the top where it starts to be still pretty short, and then it lengthens right here in the front. Okay. So that's, basically what we're going for and I'm to go, get my hair wet and then show you how I got okay, my hair is wet, and this is literally all it takes to style this hairstyle. That'S it. I mean it couldn't possibly be simpler right. Okay, so let me show you how I cut my hair first step is the buzzer. This thing is loud obnoxious, I hate having it close to my ears, but it does what it's supposed to do. So here we go. I don't like this apply it for your head, I'm going up to about here, which is probably about an inch above my ear. Okay, and I will do this at all across the back and yes, I am cutting real hair on video real air. It'S good to go over it a couple of times, because one pass will not be enough. Okay, I'm gon na grab another mirror here and then do the other side. Okay, let me point out something that I'm doing cuz, I'm realizing as I go along that these are there's some habits. I have that that may not translate. Okay. Unless I'm specific about telling you the the machine, is against my scalp for the first part and then when I get a little further up here, I just continue this the cutting stroke of the Machine up okay without I'm not actually following the curve of my head Around where it starts to turn I'm just following it up and then allowing the the cutter to go straight up, even though my scalp turns I'm just really wondering if that makes any sense whatsoever to hear it's alright, these are things you'll figure out. If you, if you're, not catching, if you don't understand now, you will driver it's one myself and now I'm listening endless like out and lift and lift all right. I'M gon na move the longer here out of the way here for a moment: okay, let's just put it all over that way for a minute, because this is stuff on the front that I don't necessarily want to cut. Let me put this back for a second, so I don't necessarily want to cut this stuff, so I'm gon na hold that with one hand and then come through here with the buzzer and get the rest there. We go okay. Now there are little hairs right along the back of your ear. That will not want to be cut in the buzzer okay, so this is when it's good to either be really dedicated and patient or have a friend help you, okay and either option is a good choice. Okay, so I think we did pretty good all right. You can see here that I don't have a blunt line across. You can see the pattern that my hair makes naturally. So let me show you what I do okay, so this is going to be a distinction, a very fine distinction. Okay, I don't mind my hair going its own direction back here. I don't want all of this okay, so I'm going to kind of pull that aside with my hand, turn on the buzzer and I no longer have the attachment on the buzzer knows when to stop because my hands in the way. Okay: let's try that again see if you okay, my fingers there now you can come along and trim off that border. If you like I'll, be honest with you, I tend to like it better if it's not so trimmed up. I just kind of like it to look a little bit natural, so I'm gon na leave it as it is. I'M gon na leave it as it is along the base there and just live with it a little bit and see how I feel about that later. On now on the sides, this is pretty simple on the sides, I'll do it where I'm facing you here. So you can see. I'Ve got the regular scissors, we're gon na aim at this part of the ear right here. You can feel that little spot now we're just gon na aim that spot and trim these what would be considered side sideburns. Okay. Now I found it on me this the shorter. These are the better okay, some other people look good with them all growing down and all over the place. I am NOT one of those people, it's alright. You do. You find the thing that works best for you and go that route. Okay. Now I'm just trimming the little hairs over the ears right there. Okay, now again, if you want to have somebody come along and just make sure that you don't have any inch long hairs right there over the ears, it's probably not a bad idea to do that. Just have somebody check it for you if you want to, but it's not that hard to just check it yourself and just see if there's anything still sticking out then cut it off, if not true, for everything in life, but it is true in this case. Okay, all right sideburn done do, look at yourself and make sure these are even okay. Look at yourself in the mirror, make sure they're. Even that's not a bad, not a bad practice. Okay, I'm gon na move the purple and bring this around okay and then we're just going to start on one side and go around now. What I'm doing with the comb is that I'm picking up a little section of hair and it's unique to that spot. Okay, I told you earlier that I really I usually do this cut, basically with the buzzer and these in these these years. Okay, so this is how this looks a seat. My fingers are against my head: okay, I'm gon na pull out and pull them out a little bit till they're. No longer touching me, you can do this at whatever level you like and cut and see how it pulls a little section of hair out. It'S not actually pulling it out, it's just that because the teeth it's cutting it, it's cutting just one section: here's the next section we're gon na be here all day. If I show you this piece by piece: okay, don't that's simple! So basically, I have tapered the hair from that piece in to what's happening with the buzz cut below okay. So here we go just like that. It'S that simple! Yes, it really is that simple finger here finger on the other side, Kent, the hair between your two fingers and trim one pass to three. Every time you cut, you pull your fingers away from the head a little further. Okay, next put a finger there. Now I'm doing this mostly by feel these days, because I I think I'm exaggerating this because I've got the video going, but how precise I am with it, because I'm not precise with it at all, because I know there is so much latitude in here and it's Really any mistake you make in this part can be fixed later. Okay, so don't worry just enjoy the process, because you know not very many people can cut their own hair, it's kind of and it's kind of fun. Actually, okay, so trim pull your fingers out. Trim again, this is where I'm trusting the camera to be my mirror here. Okay, you can see how that looks. It'S quite short now, sometimes when I have color in my hair. Yes, this is definitely a messy process. I don't work with a towel on because it's just too bulky, okay, you can see pretty quickly if there's, okay, let me back up a second. If my hair has been recently bleached and colored, there will be a mark, a ssin. Let me show you right here between the natural part of the hair, it's this much and then the colored part, and so sometimes, when you're cutting that color will give you a. It will actually act as kind of a guide if you still are seeing the old color it's because you haven't cut off enough and you need to keep working or you know you can you as your own guide as and whatever place you'd like so we're gon Na continue here, okay, it doesn't look very comfortable, but I promise you it does work every time I snip the hands come further away from my head until there is just really not much left. Okay. Next, now again, if you miss a piece, don't worry, you can come back and get it and when you're cutting with shears like this and you miss a Pete and you you're, not gon na, have hack marks like you would, if you use a regular scissors for This you would have a hack mark. If you missed a piece, it would be really obvious, but when you're using thinning shears to cut your hair like this, it really is very forgiving way to cut your hair. Okay, now we're getting closer around the side. I know it looks uncomfortable, but you get the hang of this pretty quick and it dries fast so keep moving as quickly as you can, but don't let this be a fear thing. It'S gon na be fine. I really think there are not that not as many ways to screw this up, as you might think. Okay, okay, let's see what we got here, let me see if I can tell there's any long patches here all right. This is this is the trick for finding long patches. Okay, let me just show you what we got here, use your finger as a little shelf in the back of your head and, if there's a long patch, then you come along and take care of it. It'S that simple, your hand is moving. Alright, okay, so my hand is right there in place. I'Ve got a little swatch of hair in between the fingers and I cut one cut and then move my hand a fraction further out, and then I can feel it between my fingers. Yes, this is easier if you're working on the head in front of you, if it is so much easier, but all I'm saying is that this totally can be done. You can do this yourself. It is entirely possible now. My hair has a real, strong cowlick in this area, and so you do have to kind of wrestle it with the one case where I do wrestle it a little bit, because it doesn't really want to stay in place for me to see what condition it's in See where it is, but I can't find it I'm not sure if I mentioned this, but if you've got a rug on the floor in your bathroom you're gon na want to move it before you start this process. Okay, all right. Let'S give it a look and see where we are that part I haven't done yet now there may be some hairs that just miss the scissors every time and say you end up with a few that are really pretty tall and I will go in with the Other scissors, these guys the regular haircutting scissors and take those guys off the top okay, so I don't really need it. I don't really need those really tall guys. Okay, can you see where I've got so far? Now it's long over here on this one side, so I'm going to come in right here. I'M gon na take the purple aside a little bit, so I don't mind that being a different length in that particular section and I've got it. This is the spot where you can see a little better got it between my fingers and we're back with these shears that are only taking out a fraction of the hair. Okay, pull the hate fingers away from the head. A little bit further did again and again, and just keep going until all you've got left is the little bitty hairs and then, if you want to, you, can come along and take care of those guys on the end. Okay, so let's see where we are, I'm thinking we're doing pretty good. We'Ve got a little bit of a spot there, so I'm gon na go in and take a little bit more off here now, if you are still working at it and your hair is completely dry and you want to keep working at it a little bit. You can go back and rinse, you know, give your hair another rinse to get the the because it isn't easier to cut when you've got a little bit of water in the hair. Okay, now I'm moving into the section that has some color to it and, let's see if I can get it all stand up, saying kind of see. That'S what looks like sounds like we got company well, okay, mr. FedEx was just here. So my hair has dried. A good bit and I'm back at it so the trick here is to fill a glass with water and then just dip your comb in the in the water and put it on your hair. Okay. So that's a trick to rewedding. If you have run out of time to do what you are trying to do, okay or like the FedEx guy shows up or something like that - no worries you just pick up where you left off and carry on okay, no problem, alright! So, let's start here and it's already very short, let's move forward a little bit see since I've got the sink right here beside me, it is kind of nice to be able to just set down the scissors instead of having to instead of having to keep them In my hands all right, so this will give you a feel for how my hair is cut. I do keep it shorter on this side than I do on that side, and that's just an instinct thing that has happened over the years because I know my hair because I know how it lays, and so here's what this looks like when I cut it see How my hands against my head here and I'm gon na pull my fingers away from my head here and I'm just gon na trim the tips? Okay, not a big difference! Okay right over here once I got a pretty good swatch that time again again again again: okay, let's try over here, I just sat down the comb once twice. Each time my hand moves further away from my head and you can feel it going through your fingers and you can tell if something feels like you've got a long one. That'S gon na be sticking out of your head. That'S a little longer than everybody else. You just come in and get those guys a little trim, no problem with the other scissors with the regular scissors. Okay, again we're pretty consistent, I'm going to re-wet, because it's taking me a little longer to do this. While I'm talking about it, then it would ordinarily okay make sure I like it really really short right in this circle of my head. That'S how I like it for me it's a little longer as we go forward you're starting to see how that, where that color is it's a good bit longer? No we're gon na pull some of that back here out of there. I don't need to cut that again, but because it's naturally kind of stands up back there. It'S kind of easy to cut that all right. You know: we've got a few pieces in there they're really pretty long. Now, that's cool! I'M not I'm opposed to that. Okay, I don't know if you can see it, what I'm doing it that way, let me try move it. You try to do on this. Let me try doing this with the camera. It has a mirror okay, so I continue to just parse out piece-by-piece little sections at a time and because I want this to be a good bit longer on the top. I hold my hand further away from my head and your your fingers here are your guide for the cut okay longer as I get my hair gets longer as I go forward. I say this is all something I've developed by instinct and I'm not really sure that I'm able to put this into words, but it just is. Oh, I hate that saying it is what it is, but you know sometimes it is what it is. Okay. Okay, so you can see sorry about that. I just kicked the kick to the tripod over here. It is much longer than it is right here in Utah. That'S where the finesse comes in okay, I want the hair to come down the side a little bit over here, and I just want to trim it enough to make sure those ends are staying healthy. I don't really not really taken a lot of length off over there. Okay, again, it's drying up quickly because I'm standing here talking instead of cutting, so I'm gon na wet all that part and ask it to go back and wet this front part again and again, all I'm doing is keeping a cup of water handy dipping my dipping. My comb in the cup and then put in the water on my hair. That'S it that easy, I'm a little bit more than halfway forward! Well, my hair okay! So at this point I'm gon na start going from this side over okay and right in here. I'M happy for it to be really quite short, so we're gon na do this. Can you see okay, then just keep thinning it out with these shears, and it gives it a much more instead of there being a straight line, a hack mark. I get a much more finessed look now if I was cutting somebody's hair. I would probably do this with a razor, because it's much easier to control that because it is another way to achieve the same thing. Okay, but since I'm doing it on me - and you know it's a little bit different when you're on your ab that thing around your head, your own head, instead of I mean there's just times when you don't always have control of the instrument. So when you're, you know trying to figure out how to do this around your own head. So I would not do a razor on myself I have, but I would not just as a rule not to try to teach a new person how to do that. But the beauty of this is: is you if somebody's doing this? If I were doing this, somebody else I'd use a razor, and then I don't know I'm actually explaining this well or not. So we're doing this on somebody else. It would be very simple to do this with a razor. It is also very easy to do this, as I am with these sheers just works out that way: okay and again we're trying to kind of keep something longer strands. Okay. Now I think we're pretty well got it. Let'S see see how it feels now, here's one thing you can do, pull it all forward and see if it feels like it's pretty even across the front, if it's evenly doing what you wanted to do, if you've got a couple of long strands that are gon Na tickle or get in your way and here's your opportunity with regular shears come along and trim those pieces. If you want to again, there's no real need to do so unless, unless you want to now, this is again so much trial and error. This is a style that I I do kind of by feel every time and it works for me and it may not. You know if it's not your, then by all means. Don'T do this to yourself: okay, okay, so right here, I'm seeing what I call a shelf okay, so I'm gon na go right. There pull up the my finger underneath the hair and come in with my shears and just give that a little trim. Okay, we can't tell without it this. The camera is not the same as using a mirror at all, so just trying to see if I've got it or not, because what you can probably see from the cameras stuff, I'm just having trouble seeing right now and what you're staying me do is just a Little corrector because I basically go through boom boom boom boom boom boom boom and then come back and go up the other direction, and that keeps it from having too many little weird things that are going the wrong way. So that's how you do that's how you get the cut that I showed you earlier and let me just let this dry a little bit. I'M gon na have a shower and wash the hair. You can see the hairs, nothing crazy on me. I'M gon na have a shower wash off the hair and then let it dry and I'll show you what it looks like. Okay, tada Here I am with the finished. Look it's not that different. Is it not really? Let me show you what I got here: yeah, not tremendously different, it's still damp in the front, but the beauty of it is that it's really simple and easy to take care of the trick. Here is, if you want a longer cut, move your fingers further from your head when you're cutting just move your fingers further from your head and it'll result in more hair left on your head. So you know this is my favorite part. I just love how it feels it's just I've had the big, crazy I've done, everything that you can imagine to my hair already, and this is the simplest I've ever had it, and you know what I really love it. It feels very honest to me this hair and it feels like I've given up the fight trying to make my hair do something I wanted it to do. I have just simply given up the fight and that's a good thing, not for everybody. This style is definitely not for everybody, but if it's for you leave me a comment with a picture, I'd love to see what you look like thanks so much for watching. I'M really appreciated you.

Daniela: I cut my hair myself, and I’ve been wanting a complete buzz cut and I thought we’ll after 8 years of DIY it’s back to the salon… Nope! Thanks to you I’ll continue my own hair styling and for free! Lol you’re so beautiful! Thank you for this amazing helpful tutorial! :) ♥️

okie0915: My hair is actually shorter than yours, so you know how irritating it can be when it gets "long". I wasn't able to go to my last appointment before the whole pandemic started. Now we're a couple of weeks into this and I was loosing control. Watched your video last night and learned so much. Your calm presentation & clear instructions gave me the confidence to just go for it today. I was amazed at the result. I'm sure future attempts will only get better and better. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Dr. Cindy Ravenmoon: I've been rocking a buzz cut for 6 years now, and it was the best thing I've ever done!

Dorothy Fabriguze: I love what you did with your own hair cut. I am 81 years old and I have always cut and permed my own hair since I was an adult. I have some arthritis in the shoulders now but I may try this short cut when it isn't bothering me so much. Thanks for giving me an easy style to try. I've always told myself that whatever I screw up will grow back. lol! I'm Dorothy in Texas.

Cookie Mobers: I've literally been cutting my own hair (the style is called a chelsea, short all over, long bangs and tiny long side burns) since 1981. It's truly not that hard, and you have to have the attitude, "It's just hair, it will grow back"

Kathleen Alles: What a great video! You are very engaging on camera. I found myself watching all the way to end. I have been cutting my own hair for 15 years in a 90 degree cut that is about 5" long. It's fun, much less time consuming than going to a salon and free! I get a lot of complements on my hair. Women will come up to me in public and ask me where I get my hair cut. I say, "In my bathroom!"

Antonia Rivera: I love it..I use to cut my hair myself like that for yrs..I let it grow for a while now I think im gonna do that cut again..thank you.. you did an awesome job. Thanks for sharing ❤

Duana Welch: Gorgeous (and you have SUCH a pretty face). I used a #6 on my whole head, then regular haircutting scissors over the ears. Left the neckline natural. I've LOVED it and am now planning to grow the front a bit longer than the rest. Thanks for your teaching; I'll get some thinning shears for when I grow the front out some more.

Laura Fry: Thank you for this. I usually wear my hair longer but my last trim was in February and I attempted a pandemic hair cut. I thought I butchered it but you’ve shown me women can rock super insanely short. Will use your technique to correct mistakes as it grows out. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

Maria Ramos: I cut my hair as well. I can do exactly what I want. You just gave me a whole bunch of new tips I’ll be using without the trial and error method I use. People always give me compliments. They say they could never do it. I always respond, it’s just hair. It grows back! Thank you! This was really helpful.

This Generation Ministry: I have been cutting my own hair short for years and wanted to get up the courage to use clippers. This video is very well done with two new tricks--to use the thinning scissors and your demo of the clippers for the back. Thanks for taking the time and using the video expertise to make it!

Kalua Lauber: I love it! The part where your clippers fell and dangled on you is so me.. I had this haircut in the winter last year, regretted it and wigged it all year. Now I want it again. So honest because you just know I’m lying with this wig girl!

Sha Lee: great job! looks so professional. i have been cutting my own hair for ten years and i have the thinning shears but have hardly used them. i will definitely try it. thank you for your video.

Cowgirl J: I've been doing this cut on myself for a few years, though I have have longer sideburns. It was great to see you doing it. Got lots of tips. I've also found doing it myself intuituve and forgiving. I sometimes get a professional cut, too, when I feel like it. With Covid19 it is great to never need to. Getting the feather shears about a year ago has been a great help. Best tips from you was how to do the back neck clean up, and I haven't used a clipper with the large blades. This has always scared me with fear of getting it too short, but I'm going to try it this time. Really helpful. Thanks.

Nicci Ellett: Carmen, thank you so much! My hair is slightly longer than yours. I’ve been buzzing the back and sides of my own hair since lockdown Began but I’ve been gaining a ridge at the ‘bone’ on the back of my head where I don’t want the buzzer to stray. Reminding me of the thinning shears is fantastic. I must get mine and do it ASAP. Thanks again x

Sharon Attwood: Thanks for this video. I love my hair short and with the current lockdown, can’t get to my normal hairdresser. My last cut was in mid-February and the length is really getting to me. Your instructions give me the courage to do it myself while it’s necessary. Thanks, again.

Little Nell Portraits: Thank you so much for this! I've literally just buzz cut my hair off, not for the first time but from very long, to get rid of old dye and have a fresh start, love to start over every now and then! will def be doing something similar to this as it grows out! Really love it! x

Marie Just Marie: This was the best tutorial on hair cutting ever. You have such a great attitude, too. Thank you for sharing.

KonnySue McLuskie: Thanks so much for this tutorial!! This is exactly what I was looking for!!! I’ve had long hair my whole life. It’s been every color in every style. I finally chopped it off two months ago and now I want it shorter and less fuss. You’re GORGEOUS!!! Thanks again!!

Guillermina Stover: Since the pandemic, I've been TRIMMING my hair. Today I cut about 1 and a half inch off. I normally have a modified pixie, meaning it's not as short as yours. But you have given me hope that I can do this myself!! Thank you! You are patient, cheerful and a great instructor.

LeeLee5: Thanx for the video! Loved watching you! Looks so adorable! Have always cut my own hair, too(since I was 14, will be 70 in July), and this cut is just the easiest to deal with. Big thumbs up❣️

Teri M: Great cutting techniques! Thanks for sharing, I too enjoy my pixie cut and gave up the fight years ago, total refreshed feeling!!

pnumenwiese !: Woohoo! I'm doing it the same way, except the front. I cut all of my hairs off, even the bangs. Oh, and I have no colored front- I'm natural silverish. I love it! Thank you for showing us your kind of cutting!❤️ Oh, and here are my pics: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Y1wMXbYg8d4dVybK8

ExtrasensoryEmpress: This is very helpful tutorial! My dream haircut! Thank you ❤️

Vicky Sutherland: Thank you for this most informative, relaxing video! I’ve been cutting my hair with clippers, nearly your length, and I love it! With Amazon’s help, I’m gonna order thinning shears; at the moment, I have a few “hacks” I need to take care of May God bless you

Virginia Chirsky: Thanks for this detailed video of how to cut your own hair! I have referred to the video multiple times over the past 2 years, and now I am confident about cutting my own curly hair - and one way to keep my curls under control was through your video. I purchased 2 quality scissors and cutter. Having the correct tools also helps ... Thanks again

Iman's Homeschool: Thank you soooo much for this! After losing most of my hair to a DISASTROUS perioxide episode recently, I was left with no choice but to shave it off to less than an inch all over but now, seeing your wonderful style, I am so ready to embrace this ... I'm turning 40 this year and I need a new easy and managable look to keep up with my teenagers ... thank you again!

T L: Hi Carmen, I watch your video almost daily and have been trying to perfect my skills by imitating your demonstration. I cut my hair today and am pretty happy with it. I think each time I cut my hair I will gradually improve. I appreciate you taking the time to do this video!

Jan Swayne: Carmen, I LOVE your presentation of how to cut my hair. Your cut is similar to mine, but mine has grown very long in these last months. Thank you for getting me started!!!

Kim Plasters: Thanks so much for this SUPER-HELPFUL video! I normally wear my hair just a touch longer than yours and was overdue for a trim when the pandemic hit and stay-at-home orders kicked in. I've been working from home for the past 3 1/2 months with my hair slowly growing into a shaggy, unbearable mess. After watching you tackle your cut with such ease, I ordered some thinning shears to go with my clippers and took it all off this afternoon. Feels so much better!

Victoria Coradin: Thanks for your video. I found it very helpful. I have been keeping my hair short for the longest time and now that everything is closed, I was trying to figured out how to do it myself and your video is great.

Christine McIntosh: Just cut my own hair for the first time ever - though I've rescued bad cuts in the past, and used to do my boys' hair maybe 40 years ago! Watched your excellent video twice before taking the plunge with my husband's clippers... now waiting for arrival of thinning shears, but pretty pleased with first go!

snowy river: Thank you for doing this video. I've been looking for someone to show me how to do this step by step. Now I know how to do it.....I will be having a go!

Jane Morabito: You look soooooo good in that style. I wish I could wear it but don't think it would look good on me. But this is a fantastic video. The best I've seen on DIY anything! Your instructions are clear and concise and even though I can't wear my hair that short I learned some really great techniques. Thank you so much!!!

Adrianne Meyer-Gruhl: Just tried your cut today and totally work! Thank you so much for sharing this simple and amazing diy! Wish you all the best!

m.e. bartula: I've been doing my own cuts for many years, and the thinning shears are soooo forgiving. When I started going grey, I discovered a sharpie/magic marker would allow me any color I may desire for some highlights. Washes out after a few shampoos, and no need to see the roots. You made a fab tutorial for anyone to easily follow. Thanks for a fun watch.

Valrie Kantorski: Love your pixie cut! You're wonderful at cheerfully and calmly explaining the cutting procedure. Good teaching. It gives me the courage to try it on myself. I've had a short cut for decades, but your style is even shorter and more liberating; and it looks fantastic! Thanks so much for a great video! P.S. Love the purple highlight color, too!

Sibel Seleker: Thank you for your help, this was the first time I ever tried to cut any hair including mine. You made it look so easy and I was very successful doing my own.

Polly Karis: I was green with envy throughout this entire video, and totally enraptured Your hair and personality are both sassy! I keep my hair short and would LOVE to have it as short as yours. I love how easy you make it look. I know my reality will be far different, but I'm determined to try. I ordered both types of shears today....I'll keep you posted.

Molly Garber: Thank you so much for your video, Carmen! I went for it after getting desperate to cut my hair. Your instructions were so easy to follow!

Hortensia delosSantos: Beautiful and you explain it so well. I’ve had my hair as short for many years and was terrified of having it grow on me now that we have to stay home for the coronavirus pandemic. With your video, I am ready to cut it myself. Thank you thank you thank you!

yeswonderful: Thank you so much! I just cut my hair for the first time (quarantined and my hair was driving me nuts) and used your tutorial for the cut. It turned out really good! Thanks for the encouragement and content

M. G. Scott James: Thank you for a wonderful--down to earth--tutorial. I have been cutting my own short hair, and I learned some great tips from you.

sharonan1: One of the best videos I've ever seen on any topic. I have super super short hair when it's cut properly, but such cuts are hard to find where I live. You've inspired me to give it a go (I already do a little trimming on my own out of frustration). Thank you so much!

Kathryn Bledsoe: Carmen, I have watched this video several times to refresh and do cut my own hair regularly now. You are engaging, wonderful, and your technique is so well-conveyed and awesome. Thank you!

Patricia Marshall: Awwww, I simply love u and your channel. Watching you has given me the courage to cut my own hair! I love how u keep cutting the hair so “home cut” general, and basic. I was having a difficult time with the middle section as how to how my fingers in the hair, but you cleared and demonstrated all of that! Thank you. Oh! As with you I too have done so so many different things with my hair down through the years…”I’ve given up the right as well.” lol

mkorlando: I have the exact same hair cut. I have always been a snipper. Because of the pandemic I learned how to shave it around and cut the top. The shears have made the difference. I get so many compliments on my cut and color. After chemo 14 years ago my color came in snow white. People are shocked when I tell them I cut my own hair. I do use a hair dryer and some product. I'm done in 3 minutes.

Magiccitymama: This cut looks fabulous on you! I've been cutting my own hair for about 30 years and get a lot of compliments on my short pixie. Sometimes I do "longer" short haircuts and they look good too but I just cannot stand scraggly hair and am anxious to trim it whenever it starts to grow out. I don't have much confidence in myself with clippers, so I don't use them except to trim the hairline. Thanks for the tutorial; I learned some good tips.

Sandra Simpson: Absolutely love it! I use the shears on my own hair too, but just to trim up if I can't get to the salon. You have inspired me to try this !

Missy Camble: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ so excited to do this next week, My hair is half way down my back and so dead and gross from being bleached I’m over it! Time for a fresh start!! Thank you for posting this tutorial!!! ❤️

Diane Johanson: I used to be a beautician many years ago (approx. 45 years) and still know how to cut hair. I have always cut my own hair and I keep it fairly short. The only time I cut it this short was when I quit coloring it and let my gray hair loose! I also still cut my husband and my son’s hair. Saved a lot of money over the years too!

Lisa M: I absolutely love your hair! I was looking for a super short cute cut as Summer is coming and I have thick hair. Thanks for this tutorial!

Alli Plank: I've done many styles like this before, and have loved the majority of the cuts. This tutorial was very helpful to learn how I could cut my own hair, thank you

Nicci Ellett: Hi Carmen. Thank you for this fantastic video. I loaded it onto my iPad four or five months ago and it’s been there ever since! For obvious reasons, hairdressers couldn’t operate in the UK during the height of Lockdown and you gave me the confidence to trim my own hair which is a grown out pixie, it’s now a wedge cut. Unfortunately, I went back to a professional hairdresser a few weeks ago and having told them that I like the style I achieved but just wanted them to tidy it up, they hacked into my top layer that I told them I wanted to keep long! Grrrr! No wonder they failed to pass the mirror around to show me that part! I know hair grows back but I feel that I went into the salon looking better than when I came out! I have just invested in a new pair of cordless clippers and doubt I’ll bother with a salon ever again! Thanks again, your video is very much appreciated. Stay safe x

Karen Setka: This was so good. I also cut my own hair and have the thinning shears. You've just shown me how best to use them. You look fabulous!

Cassi Jones: Carmen you're amazing. Great auditor and communicator. I cut my own hair, by feel and intuition, but you have given some amazing tips, great demonstration. FYI loved your dress, fab colour coordination with your hair :) Look forward to seeing more from you - may colouring your hair! Thanks so much and God bless you girl!!

regalianpeaches1: I've been cutting my own hair for a very long time now. Started when I was about 7. LOL! But kidding aside, your technique is bang on... pretty much sam as I do when I cut very short. Recently I've been cutting it into more of a pixie bob. Got MANY compliments on it. Excellent video!

maria cecilia borja: The best tutorial that I've watched. Thank you !!! Worth every minute watching this brilliant video. Your attention to detail is commendable and I love your way of teaching.

Dianne Miller: Oh my gosh! This is such a great tutorial! I made the BIG mistake of thinking I wanted to grow out my short cut prior to COVID-19. BIG. MISTAKE. Going on 4 weeks of home isolation. So I’ve been stuck with way more hair than I’ve ever had. I’ve been looking online trying to find a cut that I could do myself and found your video! So instructive. I am a retired hairdresser and yes, it is way easier to cut a head in front of you. So, now I need to see if I can do this. I only have a ‘peanut clipper’ and am wondering if I can use the #4 attachment or should I order a regular clipper set? I’m not sure of guard length. I’ll have to do some research on that. You look fabulous and I agree with minimalist hair! I grew my color out about 10 years ago and have perfectly white hair. Wish I would have done that years ago! Thanks so much! You are an inspiration!

Valjean Macias: Great instructions. I love your style. I will get the correct tools and give it a try. Thanks for your share and fun attitude to boot!

Norma Chapman: Great tips to use thinning shears and pull hair out as I cut. I have underused mine and will definitely use all your techniques. Your tutorial teaches me how to cut hair in the back without fear !! Yes... GIVE UP THE FIGHT !! Thanks for sharing

Mary Dustin: Very clear and concise instructions! Best hair cutting video I've seen on YT. I have severe arthritis in my shoulders and will attempt this when I can.. Thanks so much.

Frances Kern: Thanks so much for this video! I watched it a couple of times, made sure I had all the proper tools, and pixie cut my own hair which was in a sort of a Prince Valiant cut. It came out great and I love it. That was about four weeks ago, so now it is time for a trim. I too was sick and tired of coping with thin, fine hair, spending time with a blow dryer and brush, only to have the first breath of wind make me look like a dandelion gone to seed. Thank you again for this great video! All I need now is to buy a second mirror! For the record, I am age 84 years, used to be dark blond now dark blond with a lot of silver! :)

Jacqui Marlow: I cut my own hair (short) all the time, but wasn't brave enough to try this short before, but your video has given me the confidence to give it a try. Thanks x

Michelle Duncan: What a WONDERFUL video ! I hope I can learn to do this style. My short hair has never been quite what I wanted since I cut it a few years ago. But this style is very close to what I hope to get to someday. Again - GREAT video!! You make it look so easy & are a confidence booster.

Platypusolution Dominique Sevigny: I do the same ! Great to see somebody else doing it. Very good demonstration, thank you

marinemom351 mom: I used to cut my own hair years ago. I eventually grew it out but after watching you I may have to try it again. Great video. Thank you.

Deborah Carter: Thank you so much! You have the cut I''ve been trying to get!!

Tahini Love: Did you use thinning sheers or blending sheers? Thank you for this tutorial!! ❤️ I normally keep my hair very short and am so excited to cut it because it's growing out so fast.

D C: 3 hours choosing which clippers, 3 hours watching videos of how to use them - 10 minutes to cut my hair! This video was one of the most useful I watched - Thanks

Whitewolf: Thank you for this demonstration. I'm 70, and just when I was trying to grow my hair out in a bob, my gray hair turned very white and kinky in the back and curly on one side only. Good grief! I also have cowlicks. But watching you be so brave, I did the big chop and copied your cut. It was the answer to fighting the chaos.

Art Twa: Thank you! I’m due for a DIY pixie cut and will follow your tips and tricks. You look great!

Christine Kaye: Adorable! I've been cutting my own hair for a few years now, but you've given me some ideas. My hair is very thin, so I don't cut it quite as short as this. I am, however, excited to try the thinning shears. And you are so right--so much is by feel. When I do the back, I shut my eyes and concentrate on scissors and fingers. Oh, yeah! Be careful not to snip your fingers!

Natalie Grandinetti: Really enjoyed your video. I once had my hair in a very short pixie, but many years ago in my early 30's. I watched your entire routine because you have a bubbly and endearing personality, and I learned a lot! Was a great experience and I thank you for sharing your technique with us!

My Kingdom For a Horse: I loved my short pixie but I am going for the grow out. I agree that a short cut is easy and carefree. When I wanted that feeling of longer hair on my head I decided to take the journey of growing it out. Its tough ~ the stages of growing out those shaved sides isnt too flattering. After 9 months I finally see my hair starting to emerge again and I am excited to get to a real shoulder length style. Change is fun. I am glad I tried it.

Hei: I've been cutting my own hair now for around 9 months (longer than yours) and it's quite ok, but you gave me some really great helpful new ideas for the process! Thank you so much!!! <3 And I'm curious to explore your faith friday videos.

Pamela Belknap: Love your cut! Very similar to mine but I’ve been paying a lot to keep it short - every four weeks. I used my thinning shears and random hacking since the shutdown. How do you color it? I’d love to try that too!

Frances Grech: I love short hair and like you i cut my own hair. Always ready to go with no blowdrys ! Especially now as i stopped colouring my hair and completely transitioned. Awesome!

Angie: I LOVE your hair style cut ❤️Very smart. Thank you for sharing I’m so tempted to cut my hair! Awesome

Norma L. Tyree: I loved this video! You and I wear our hair very much alike. With this 'stay at home because of Covid-19", I have seriously been considering cutting my hair myself. Now I know what I need to do it. Thank you so much.

Nikki: Love it! I shaved my head a year ago and I really enjoyed the low maintenance. I was thinking of growing it out to bob but seeing you makes me think about going ultra short again.

Judith Pearson: Very cute. I wear mine very similar and love it

Kathy Knuteson: It looks great! Love the touch of purple in the front!

Tracey Buckley: I just love your video. I've already ordered clippers as soon as I watched your video, and I've now watched it a few times already. You're SO calm and come across as a very very nice person You give off such a great sense of self confidence, and zero arrogance which is wonderful. I too have short hair, also very thick hair! So with lockdown it's driving me CRAZY! Thank you so much for making this great instructional video Carmen, it was a pleasure to watch it and learn from you. Thanks again. Take care, Stay safe ❤

Katherine: what an amazing video Carmen love your balanced energy, I bet you are super easy to be around. you have an adorable personality, love it, love it, love it your video is very detailed and informative, it is very real and you talk about so many aspects of cutting your own hair short, thank you so much, it has helped me so much. love your confidence and how beautiful inside and out you are

Little Ogeechee: Sooooo cute! You are truly stunning, and I love the cut! I like my hair somewhat longer, but on you this pixie looks amazing, and you do such a brilliant job of cutting it and keeping the shape...loved the video.

Linda Cochrane: I just got through cutting my hair! For the first time cutting my hair in your style..I love it.. I got nervous while doing it ...but it turned out real good. Thank you!

Kate S: This video helped me so much!!! Stuck at home now this gave me so many tips. You are an angel.

Annie R: Great tutorial! I have had shot hair like yours for years now and I am overdue for a cut now due to the pandemic.. I am going to give it a try now that you've shown me it can be done!! I just hope I won't need those years of practice to achieve an acceptable result! Thanks for your time. Annie

Mega Aquarius: I have had a pixie for over 12 years and never in my life would I have considered cutting my own hair but the global pandemic changed that. I have ordered clippers and shears and can't wait for them to get here. When you are used to your hair super short any growth really gets to you. It is like the opposite of women with really long hair trying to preserve each centimeter of hair. I can't wait to cut mine. Thank you for this!

MissAstorDancer: This is the BEST tutorial for this process I have ever watched! Thank you so much! I think I can do this!!!!

Erics Granny: Fantastic! This is why I did not want such a short do, I would have to trim too often! I believe I can do this! Thanks for the demo!!! Happy New year!

Eleanor Lebrecht: Thanks so much for the step by step tutorial with very good instructions. I am 74 y/o and I cut my gray hair very short. But I decided I want a bit of style. No other hairdresser can do it for me. I am so pleased to have found your video. I shall be copying your hairstyle style very soon. And I am a minimalist. :)

Julie Nelson: I love your relaxed but informative approach. While I have cut my WKN hair since pandemic days, I have not paid enough attention to the thinning and shaping because, honestly, I didn’t know how. As of today, thinning shears are on my shopping list, as well a a good mirror. With those, I am going to be refining my self-cut. THANK YOU!!!!!!

Liz Wiff: Thank you for this video! I used it to go from below shoulder blade length to very similar to yours. Im so pleased with how it turned out. Your video is the one that made me feel confident enough to take the plunge. Thanks!

🦋Carolyn🦋: Hello☺Love this haircut ...looks really good on you.I cut my own also.I'm in the process of growing it out from a buzzcut for the 6th timeMy goal is to get my hair to a pixie length and trim it every now and then.

blackcatspirit13: Thank you so much for the Pixie haircut DIY video. I've been desperately looking for a how-to on how to cut my hair in my favourite style. Maintaining a short haircut needs more regular maintenance than a longer one, and at 50$+ a pop at the salon, I'd rather do it myself as it gets pricey in the long run. Cheers from Downunder!

Amy Niezur: Love the cut. Been trying to keep up my own super short hair without salons these past months, and your video is just what I needed to attempt to clean up the top (been just managing with clippers so far). Thanks!

mags car: Really great tutorial! Very helpful! Thank you!

Dianna Yandrich: Thank you! In 2018 I shaved my head & now it's grown out & had no idea what to do with it. This is a perfect style.
