I'M thinking short pixie today. Are you guys in agreeance with that? Are we are we good to move forward? Let me know if you have a question during the class type. Q then put your question and then we'll be good to go that also all the tools that I'm using on this class today, you can purchase on our shop at shop, SSC, calm. That is this website right here: shop FSE! So if you need razors, if you need combs, if you need clips, if you need scissors, were your place so go check it out at shop FSE my nose itches, like crazy shop. Fsc comm really appreciate that okay cool! So I'm seeing the new comments here: yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, all right cool! So short pixie is the way to go all right. I'Ve got my doll head right here, so we are going to be working through that tool. Toys -- is. Let me see here. I'Ve got the carving combs, so I'll talk about those for a second and then, if you guys can do me, a favor as the class goes on, people will be asking what these tools are just let them know that they can get them at shop FSE, and It'S the Donald Scott carving comb, they're 39 bucks each. So you know if you're looking for a new tool, super cheap for one and two awesome tools, so we're gon na be using that today, both carving combs exactly the same except for the comb. So there's a wide tooth comb and then there's a fine toothed comb. Both cutting sides are the same, so it's got a 50 % cutting side and a hundred percent cutting side we're gon na be using both of those today to create texture and movement. Mostly a hundred percent side and then when we want to create texture, we switch it and we use the 50 % cutting side. Then I also may pull out this tool, I'm not sure yet, throughout the cut, depending on what I need. This is the Donald Scott twist razor. I love this thing. It'S got a 100 % cutting side and a 25 % cutting side so, depending on what kind of texture you're trying to create 25 %, 50 % or 100 % you've got it in your hand. The difference with the twist is got this twist finger hole here. You can use a regular comb, whatever comb you want and use it just like a normal razor. This is kind of more of an all-in-one tool, so you have the comb and the razor together. So that's the deal on that I do see. We have so Sharon a great question advice on good shears for left-handed stylists, here's the deal you know Mizutani makes and we sell left-handed in pretty much every version. So I would answer this question the same as I would answer a great year for a right-handed person depends on what you're looking for. So I did do an episode on my podcast. It'S about three videos back where you will see that I break down every scissor that I have. I would recommend that you go check that one out, because that's a full video about it and I can go on for quite a while. So it's like 45 minutes long and it talks about all my favorite scissors, so go check that out on our YouTube channel you'll see it on there it'll it's under the video, my favorite scissors, just a few videos back um Chris and I'm glad you didn't miss It either all right amazed. What'S different, I don't know, I don't know um the Hat. That'S what's different. Do you have a certain shape face shape face for a pixie? So this is the deal. So I don't think I think there's different things. You need to do with the pixie cut so we'll get into that depending on the person's face shape, but I don't think there's the there's. Obviously the perfect face shape, which is oval for any cut, but on as we go through it. I don't think I think you put a pixie on anybody as long as you have different aspects that kind of create different effects on the head. So let's say they have a round face. Then what I'm gon na do is try to build height in that in that pixie cut more volume, more texture, maybe shorter layers in it to try to get it to have that height. Now, if they have a longer face, I'm obviously gon na try to build that down a little bit. Maybe a flatter pixie still can have texture, but maybe even shorter pieces on top or a longer piece that kind of swoops over the side. That kind of cuts off some of that to shorten their face a little bit, so we're always trying to create that perfect oval shape on. So that's the biggest difference between cutting you know in any haircut you're trying to create that perfect face shape that oval shape. That flatter look so so when you go in with a pixie, it's the same thing just what are you trying to do? They have a short face. You want to make it a little bit longer. Do they have a long face? You want to make it a little bit shorter, you know, so we're always trying to fight that all right cool, let's see, okay, cool all right, I think we're good. I'M gon na move into the cut we're gon na get started here. We'Ve got our Erica mannequin from pivot points. I'M gon na start off. I'M gon na comb, the hair and section it out first and then we're gon na go into the cut here so again make sure if you can just share the show actually gon na move. A little bit closer to the camera here I know she's, very I'm gon na fix it a little bit cool alright. So what I'm gon na do for this pixie is we're gon na base it off of a convertible top, and what I mean by that? I don't even know if that's the right wording, but I picture as a convertible, because it can flip and flop both ways. So I want this to be able to be worn to the left or to the right. It'S gon na have no matter what a little bit of a heaviness to it, but I don't really care about that. That'S going to be kind of the fun part about this cut, so I'm gon na work. My sectioning back talked about this. Before what I like to do. Is I like to get the hair moving in the direction it should be going, so I comb it back with the round of the head just like that. I work it around now. Once I get the hair smooth and moving, then I go right to this parietal Ridge area and I draw my line back, I'm drawing a horseshoe section all the way back through that mid crown area. Just like that now I'll turn her. Then I'm gon na keep combing the hair back around to the front of the head. Put that hair into my hands. I'M gon na place my thumb where I want this section to end. So I balance it here and I go all right. That'S where I want it to be right about there. So now I'm gon na continue combing. I'Ve got my thumb where I want it you're fine. I want to jump in front of you guys, so we come around right to my thumb. I comb the hair down and then I comb the hair up and I check it and just make sure that I'm balanced, I know you're out they take a little more on this side, so I'm using a pretty wide tooth comb. This is a 3/32 comb from why is Park, I'm using that right now just to work, my sectioning, but probably start with a fine-tooth comb. I get into the car and I'll talk about why, across crown, so when I say mid crown what? Basically, what I'm talking about is right here is the crown right so mid. Crown is just cutting that in half. So then I got my section: I'm gon na twist it bring it around to you guys, see it twist it up into a knot, top clip it away, pretty simple, yeah. Okay now and it's not quite as balanced. I want to be all right here. Take a little bit more, that's a little better okay! They don't have to be perfect all right. So now, I'm gon na take out a triangle section in the back of the head here like this down boom. I'M gon na do the same thing on this side and meet up with that triangle. Oh, it's all good! All right, multitasking today guys DJ a DJ. An educator cameraman chat watcher. Alright, you guys have questions post them in the chat queue and then your question queue and then the question as we go through just to let me know if we're all in the same page here some hits you and you like it hit that share button. Please, thank you so much twist this up to that's all good. That'S all right! So we're gon na start Center back there we got our triangle see where I can get the best view for you guys. I'M gon na use the fine carving comb fine. For this part of the cut, this will be the best thing. Okay - and I can see your questions from here. What haircut are we doing? Susan? We are doing a pixie cut. She'S gon na have a slight convertible top type. Disconnection, which means it's gon na be versatile, can go both ways, so I'm super psyched to share that with you guys so now, vertical straight down the center back, I'm also going to create a real fringy outline just cuz, it's gon na be fun to do all Right, so let me show you the section there. You go vertical spin, her back, because I want you guys to see what happens. This is what's cool about cutting with a razor cutting this pixie, I'm gon na go real short into my finger here, but then what I'm gon na do is I'm gon na glide out. So I slide and then glide right go back in so I'm creating that look at that scooped effect that we create with it. So I take my comb in just like this glide, I'm not really cutting that part, and I just want to cut in there and now got extra lengths in there nice and short extra length. You could do that with a scissor too, like you just scoop out and cut into it. It'S just so much easier with a razor all right, so I got that first cut slight diagonal forward right next to it, and I'm gon na bring that back to the previous section. That makes sense like this slide and glide. These are like a stubborn kids that didn't want to get in the car to go for the ride all right. There Denyce good Jam today, that's right! It'S Friday, it's freestyle Friday got ta uh, make it as fun as possible right. So I'm still just back to the previous, so traveling, now traveling, guide, slide and glide create that link at the bottom section right next to it like that, cameraman slide Liza and I don't even care if these links are a little bit different in each section, because I want to have some fun with that fringe edge. That'S going to happen throughout this cut, so I really wanted to just let it be a little freeform throughout bring it back slide. Don'T need it to be that one put into a little bit yeah we're just working our way off travel into the front. Yeah, that's fun. So this is why I wanted to go low on that parietal Ridge. Here'S the here's a little fun fact fun way to understand this, a little bit better. If I went high on parietal Ridge, if I went up just a little bit and had my section there, then I'd be working with that that weight. That would build up because I'd be pulling this hair down over top of this curve, because I'm basically working on a flat plane here. So when you look at her head shape, adjust it a little bit to explain to you guys so right here, it's pretty flat! So I'm not really working on too many curves, but once we go above that parietal Ridge now that curve is different. So basically, what I mean is this is 90 out from the head. This is 90 out from the head. 90 90 90 see how that curves up just a little bit, but not a lot that that I consider being pretty much in the same plane. But then, as I get just up here, now, look how look how much this comb shifts at 90 degrees. So anything from this point below here is all graduation, which is fine. It'S just really important to understand that because, as I go to cut, if I'm cutting everything right here throughout the cut what's happening, is I'm building up extra weight that I don't want. So I keep that section below parietal Ridge. Then I can go up and I know what I'm working with when I get to the top of the head. So just think about those things as you go through all right, continuing through the side here again guys all right. So I see a question. If you have a question post Q first type, the letter Q then type your question, then that way I can easily see it from where I'm at right here. So Eric has got a question. Would you approach this with someone with longer hair or no, and where did you get your comb or hey, sir, all right? So this question is gon na come up a lot, so this comb, so two two things, two things Erica so this comb. This is a carving comb. We have a fine tooth and a wide tooth. Well I'll put this one in front my shirt, this one off. Okay, all right! So we have a wide tooth and a fine toothed, carving comb and here in our mouth, it's available on shop. Fsc comm! That'S our website there, thirty-nine bucks! So if you want to get one go on over and shop away, really appreciate that now, if somebody with long hair what I approach this same technique - yes, but maybe a little bit different, obviously, but what this is gon na do is create more of a shag Effect on the outer perimeter, or the outer length of the hair, so it'll be very broken and very layered throughout, so just be aware of how you're cutting and what you're cutting and when you're cutting throughout that. That makes sense why the triangle you're gon na see in one second on when we get to that triangle. Why we put it there that'll be easier to explain when we're there, okay, so straight out from the head, just like that slide and glide work. My way to the front now the last section, so this one's still traveling so the whole way through from the back to the front, we have created a traveling guide, so just bringing it back to the previous section all the way through now, this one um is Going to come back two sections, because I want to add a little extra length in the front here, so I'm just gon na over direct it a little further back here and slide and glide through it. I'M gon na do that twice like that. So now that pushed a little extra length, that is for me later to have some fun with, so I wanted that little extra length now you're gon na see this is very fringy but short throughout the interior. This fringe stuff is not gon na stay. I'M gon na cut into it, but if it wasn't there, I wouldn't be able to cut into it and create what I want to create later. So just be aware of what you leave on, sometimes not about the hair that you cut off. It'S about the hair that you leave. This is definitely that case alright. So now we're gon na work, the opposite side. Let'S see see you later Lynn, thanks for hanging out with us. Let'S see she's headed to work. Some of us hairdressers are getting back to work. Now it's really awesome to hear all right focus in here focus trick. Put your comb up there, your combs in focus, sometimes it's hard to focus, hair, all right, diagonal forward section now. This is gon na, be a little bit different right. So now I'm pointing my finger down and I'm gon na work on top of my finger just like this, a little harder for you guys to see, but I'm doing the same thing so slide and glide through pinch cutting. I get done with it diagonal forward section. Actually, gon na tilt her forward just a little bit only to make myself comfortable, it doesn't change the cut. Oh same thing here slide glide through I'll check my links, little cross-checking through it, just to make sure that we're both on the same page, both sides there select diagonal forward actually gon na comb. This up clip it just to make it easier for you guys to see, and the salon probably wouldn't clip that, but all right pulling it straight out. This is where body position making sure that you're standing in front of your section is pretty important to make sure you get the right length in there. Oh we're just gon na continue working up through the head. We go gliding through and so before we did. The razor cutting we prepared it with Donald Scott prepare, which is this product here, it's a liquid tool glide so as the hair starts to get a little bit dry or if you're working on dry hair. Just a couple sprays of this conditions: it's pure coconut and sunflower oil. So it's it's actually great. I mean, even when you put it on your skin, feels really nice, so you put it on the hair and it just helps the hair it glide through. So, as the hair starts to dry, don't just put water on it. I'Ll put a little bit of this Donald Scott preparer, liquid tool, glide on it, and then I get that slipped and I'm looking for it also is a great cut. My gosh! What'S the one mouth before the never in my life, have I not been able to think of what this is? You know like liquid cutting to it like helps, keep your sections. I don't remember. I can't remember the words. Okay, all right so straight out from the head again slide through and then we're gon na work. The front sections now remember change things up just a little bit cutting lotion. Thank You, Snowden you're, the best all right, those you guys just joining. This is a Donald Scott, carving comb. You can get it on shop, FSE comm so and those of you guys just joining it's been a traveling guide, all the way up the front on both sides. We start by cutting short and then shifting out long, so we're creating this fringy edge that we're gon na cut into later, and then also when I get to the front here. I go traveling guide until I get to this second section away from the front and then it becomes a stationary guide. So the next section comes back to that. Just like this, we cut short to long and then the last section goes to sections back to create a little extra length into the front and we slide and glide through. So you can see some of that link that happens throughout it. A little pinch cutting all right so now cool cool cool, all right now. We'Re gon na work this triangle in the back here, so we sectioned off a triangle at the very beginning. This is now disconnected hanging over. So I want to really work into that triangle. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to take vertical sections and the reason I separate this is because I really want to start to build. I, like you know what I'm kind of changing my mind. That'S this is the great part about freestyle Friday. What I'm gon na do is actually blow dry, this entire top and back here, and we're gon na create really cool soft disconnect to make this you're gon na love it I promise. So let's do that. Let'S blow this thing dry. Let me see, if switch cameras here, that's empty coming back there. It is alright. So what I'm gon na do is I'm gon na blow dry here, umm we're gon na use this blow dryer. Let me choose my product here: I'm gon na go with the she's gon na go with the foam first. So this is the joy. Co firm, hold foam joy, whip, oh wait! There we go that much! I'M gon na! Let this down here in the salon. A lot of times, I will make a decision to do a lot of the cut right just because I love the way that dry, hair kind of doesn't lie to you. So that's what we're gon na go through and do right now, so I'm gon na turn up the music a little bit. If you guys have questions post them in the chat, type queue and then put your question and then we're just gon na blow dry, and I don't want to blow out your yourself there - you go Tish shop at Bessie. Calm! Thank Snowden thanks all right! So we're pretty much there with the blow-dry. All I've been doing is just wrapping it around the head in a flat wrap motion. Basically, what I want to do is I want to build in that head shape, especially with the base, and then I'm gon na go in with a smoothing iron, real, quick, so we're gon na go in smooth the iron and just smooth it out. You fire this bad boy up here I go about 390 on the smoothing iron. Let'S see, let's see, let me see if I missed uh. What is that hair color? So this is this hair color is natural, so we haven't colored it yet. Actually thinking well color. This pixie and then or we'll cut this pixie and then maybe next week, I'll I'll do a pixie, color technique so see, I think so I jeebies saying: does it lose natural texture? If you push dry? Yes, so it does, it loses the natural texture. But that's not what we're going for in this particular look now she will be able to like if my guests did style, her hair with natural texture. It would be totally fine would have no issue with that, and this cut would work great with it once it's done, we're not even hat we're halfway done with it at this point, so what I'm doing is just smoothing everything over one way and I'm going to Smooth it over the other way, this is only for dry cutting right, so I'm not going in there. I wouldn't ask my guests to do this every day and obviously we're gon na cut her hair quite a bit shorter, so it would wouldn't be it really as possible for her to do it. I want to get back down to the comments here. There we go cool, see, you guys see you and I seen all the new names in the chat this saw this Friday. You guys are awesome. Thank you so much we have tons of people on here, so thank you. Facebook'S blowing up so please just hit that share button. If you can, let's get more people on for the finale of the cut more people in the chat, the more fun right guys, so just smooth it out, you guys can't see anything. I'M doing you move around here, so I comb everything or brush everything over and then I just bring it over to me section by section I'm not really worried about the underneath. At this point I just smooth it down polish. It out grab a little bit more smooth it down, really focus on that mid shaft to ends Nikki thanks. So much love from across the pond cheap at smooth it out. Do you recommend a pixie cut with wavy hair? Absolutely, I think pixie cuts with wavy hair. Look great, you know, it just depends on the cut, obviously bends on the wave. What kind of wave you have but there's always a cut that goes with every hair type for short, short or long all right, almost there, I'm just working. I worked it one way across her face and now I'm going back the other way and that just helps smooth it. So it gets nice polished effect. You can see, I put a slight bevel on it because I don't want it to be just poker straight in the in each section. So I'll come through here, just like this and a slight bevel toward the end, but I'm not curling it just doing a slight bevel, always fun. When you leave the top of a cut, she had a previous cut. We did a past class on her and start to see those top layers kind of living in it see how they kind of form a shape on the head. A working diagonal back now throughout that triangle section that we created for the cut those you guys that are just tuning in and like what the heck did. He do. This is half a cut. We have a cut underneath and now we're going to do the cut on top, so we just blew it dry. We did the first part wet and now we're doing the second part dry yan'er. It'S the best cut for fine wavy, hair Candace's asking so here's the thing guys. It'S not just a hair type right. So if I look at, like you say, fine wavy hair, like I don't know what your face shape looks like so that plays a big role in it. So it's not like. Oh you should get layers cuz. You have fine wavy hair. You know it just depends on a lot of things, your personal style, your face, shape all that stuff. So it's hard to save the best for that or even not even the best or just to say it, one in general. It'S kind of difficult without knowing you as a person and that's kind of the key thing like you guys should think about that stuff. When you're talking to your clients like it's not just about like, if somebody says what's the best cut for me, like don't think about it as oh, well, you've got this hair type, so this is the best cut for you think about, like their personal style. Their face shape, you know their their maintenance plan like how often they get their hair done, like all that stuff plays a key role in what is the best cut for you? So don't just answer those those questions with a vague, you know answer. That'S what makes us professionals right all right, we're almost there I like to really smooth and polish. This is something that I do it a little in a more chaotic way. Then Scott Cole did but those of you guys that don't know who Scott Cole is he's. Somebody that I really look up look up to it looked up to in the beginning of my career and actually tried to spend as much time as I could assisting him. I didn't get as much time as I would like to of, but I did get a few really good chances um and like I would sit there at a hair show and I would smooth hair like crazy and I would think it was like perfect and then He would come over and just literally move the hair like this and he there'd be like a bump in it somewhere and like that's the kind of stuff that I look at in my career and I'm like so thankful that it happened, because that creates an eye For yourself, it makes it so you're aware of those things. Those little details that make your work just stand out a little bit more, alright, so show up to Scott Cole, he's actually been posted on Instagram quite a bit. I don't know if it's because of the quarantine or what, but I see his post, it's really cool to see all right. So now I'm just going through the comb because a brush I got the majority of it and now those little bumps I was talking about. I can finalize and finish out with a with a comb, because I can get a little more detail with each section that I take of the hair. Let'S see, do you have a flatiron, do you have to flat iron the hair? Thank you yeah. I do so. I let me see if I can go here, so I Flatiron, because now that it's ironed out, I can really see this wait. If I didn't iron it out, I wouldn't be able to see the shape that it was or the weight, depending on the cut. So like, but this was gon na, be a curly haircut, then I wouldn't Iren it out. Obviously I would really take a look at what that curly hair is doing um how it's laying so you can see the previous cut on there. It'S kind of cool face frame to it, so that's like the biggest difference. So if it was a wavy curly cut and she was gon na wear it that way, then I would probably play more with that natural texture. I would have kept cutting it wet because that's because then I could blow it dry and really see how she was gon na style it. You know that that way. So you know a lot of things play a role in what you're gon na do and how you're going to cut it. Alright, almost there. I know this isn't the most fun part guys, but understand that you got to put in this little extra effort to really get the hair in a place that is easy to cut. It really makes it and it makes your work look better too. So I really work through it before I go in start cutting, then cutting will happen, real, quick, all right. So that's that's good! We'Re there. Now, I'm going to add just a little bit of serum to the hair, so I've got I got here. Let'S see to do guess I don't have any serum, that's alright! Typically, I would add a little slip to the hair before it worked through, but that's, okay, alright! So I'm gon na switch back to this camera here uhm get her right in view. This is where you can really start to see that previous cut sitting there that face frame through it and then the layers like we haven't even cut the back, but that triangle shape that we put in the back. You can see how it falls into a heavy center in the back, and then you know you get these layers through it. So what I want to do is I want to create that convertible top that will go back and forth throughout the haircut and the way that I'm going to do that is by now cutting a versatile top. They can move both ways. So we've got this triangle in the back, so I want to start by cutting into that. I'M actually going to do a technique called stroking in the back here to soften it on this is going to be a fun technique for you guys to learn. It'S also going to seem a little bit scary, probably at first for some of you guys. So what I would suggest is just practice it so right here, I'm going to take a vertical parting, so straight down Center back, I'm gon na bring everything out now, I'm looking for my guide line, but I'm not gon na use it as a guy. I just want to know where it starts and how short it gets. It'S right that occipital bone. Let me see if I can so right here so underneath that's our shortest link there. So what I'm gon na do is I'm going to start working using the stroking technique. What that is, is it's an open and close of the scissor, so I come up and open so like this up and open down and close up and open down close I'm gon na work through the hair, just like this from long to short in this way. So bring in the hair out, and this is going to be a little more freehand looking so just like that, so working that line so notice that my hand is peeling away, but I'm not pulling away. So I'm just peeling my finger away, so I can get that line. So when you look at this hair here, it's pretty much a lines just broken right. So that's the beginning of connecting that section. Alright! So then I go in the next section over and I'm just removing some length from this and cutting a nice layered line, but it's not connected yet right. I'Ll connect it later throughout the cut. But what I want to do is I want to go through it and just cut this layering first, so I'm separating the front in the back. I just want to work the back right now that triangle section there's another piece of that triangle section so there's some of the guide there or just the underneath, not the guide, I'm not following that guide, creating my own line on top of the head and at The division point, which is the separation the front in the back of the head, is coming straight out and working now. If you didn't want to do this technique, you could do slide cutting at this point, you can slide through. It would give a similar effect. I wouldn't see much of a difference there, I'm gon na cut into that more, but we're getting there. Now, as I move to the opposite side, now, I'm scooping through so I'm coming in like this and bringing the hair back to me and cutting remember. We always want to comb that new hair towards the guy right, Oh comb, down vertical and then scoop towards myself. Scoop again we're even in this like past that second knuckle, you lose that tension. So sometimes it's hard to grip onto the hair in that last little bit that last bit that we're cutting yeah it's coming fun, so we're working our way over to that division. Point there and then once we get to the division point, then we're gon na move into that top. You can go up or down. Obviously, I'm just cutting a line, so it doesn't really matter sometimes this techniques more comfortable for me to go from bottom to top and cut my line just like that. Now, I'm gon na do a little point cutting here into this top section. We just want to soften this edge, love it again, so I like dry cutting because as I'm going through here working through this cut, I cannot really see how it's gon na wear so going about an inch into the hair, see if I can turn but working About an inch into the hair nice broken line, if you don't want it to be too shattered after you point cut, you can go through and just create a little more of a blunt edge, alright, so the backs where I want it until I do the razor Cutting part so now I'm gon na work through this top now to make a convertible top. I want it to be able to go both ways right. So what I'm gon na do is I'm gon na bring everything back to one side, bring it over to me. Cut it and then I'm gon na bring everything over to the other side, bring it to me and cut it we're gon na. Do it just like this, so I've got my guide underneath here I don't want. I want there to be a little longer than that and then I'm gon na angle, my finger, so you can see where her face is so I'm gon na angle my finger not parallel with the party. I want to shift it just a little bit and then I'm gon na work, this stroking technique towards the back, and I'm gon na keep bringing sections over to me just like this, and if you don't want to do this with a scissor, you can do it With a razor guys, I'll show you actually with the next section, so, instead of so the scissor, it's gon na give you that Glide, then, when you push it over, it starts to soften right, because the heaviness is over on this side. That'S where we're cutting it. If you wanted to do it with a razor, I would take a section bring it over to me just like this, and then I would spray 1 1 to 2 sprays of liquid tool glide over it. So I get a nice slip even though the hair is still dry, and then I work through it short too long. So just like this glide bring it over short, too long, cutting that hair, and I would just continue bringing these sections over until I run out of hair on this side like that and then so we're pretty good on that side. So now, when you push it over, you could see how it starts to get softer, as it goes over to that side. Now we're gon na do the same thing over here love this cut. What is the name of it Dana? This is called freestyle Friday cut. I don't know what the name of it would be, but I would say, like a disconnected top on a pixie cut would be probably the best way to describe it to a stylist alright, so I'm gon na continue working the razor so I'll. Just do a couple. Sprays of prepare that we go over to me and now I'm gon na go through soften it still disconnected over that short hair, which is the cool part about this cut. That'S why we've all it convertible covering it ran over to me again softly coming through a little bit of prepare. What this is going to push guys is the heaviest part. The heaviest weight into that center, so you're gon na start to see the center building up. Another key trick is to keep that razor at a 45 degree angle against the hair. That'S gon na help with the glide, so, instead of going flat or straight up and down just working 45 degrees, and it slides right through you get a nice cut with it. All right so now we've got our length in the front, so what I'm gon na do is I'm going to turn her to the front just like this, and now I'm gon na slide and cut my link that I really want this to be so one way Am I cut through soften it? I'M gon na do the same thing on the opposite side, because I still want that point in the middle. That'S the whole point of like being able to push it to this side or this side. It doesn't really matter see, what's happening, starting to turn into something all right so now couple things I want to do. I want to freestyle in 50 % carb side just working that razor into it, and then I'm going to take some of these pieces around the ear pinch, cutting cut it into it's more and now in the back too. So the back is still a little thick. So what I'm gon na do is I'm going to slide in 50 % start to blend that in and then we've got this fringy area right, and that is from the slide and glide that we did at the beginning, though those you guys that didn't see it. It'S available it'll be available later, so just creating that fringy edge. So now I'm just softly pinching a little piece of hair that I want to remove and then 50 % right at that occipital bone, because I want to build up some of that weight in there see how that starts to create that piece. Enos in it like that, the same thing on the opposite side, so look at the difference. You'Ve got texture piece eNOS, just from a little bit of using the carving comb, and now I'm going to do the same thing here. So 50 % occipital bone down blending. Those two things together and elevate this a little bit and then 50 % read some texture in there. Cole Merrit forward a little bit just grabbing little pieces that I feel like. I wanna softening some of this, and this is where like. If it was wavy texture, it would pop even more like if it has even more movement to it, 50 % cut into it. Take these sections 50 % not taking out all the hair, not committing too much to your lines. Now we're gon na do a little bit of point cutting with the carving comb. Here you could do this with your scissors as well. I'Ll show you guys this technique. Tiffani, we'll see you later thanks for hanging out with us, alright, so quick somebody's asking. So if you have a question type Q put your question. Thank you so much Cindy for posting. Your question she's asking: where do we get this type of razor or what type of razor is this? You can get it at shop FSE. This is the carving comb razor. It'S got a 50 % cutting side and 100 % cutting side, so 100 % of the hair. If you want to cut it 50 % now. The reason I share that with you guys is because now, as I go through here and I cut the top we're gon na - do a point cutting technique through it. So I want to share the uniqueness of this razor because it's got cutting on both sides. So as I go through here, i elevate the hair and then I work this razor back and forth. Like this, that's in the song. I was like what does that sound hilarious? You can hear it like weird sound in the back. I thought it was me at the razor, so I'm going through taking out that high center point, just breaking it up a little bit, it's working back and forth and if you guys can't see the hair flying off, it's all my shirt, I'm sure all right. So combing, through that it's just making it nice and light, and obviously so she can wear it both ways. So we comb it up. Just like that, and my word back and forwards at that 50 % side and 100 % side is cotton. Okay, now I'm gon na slide through the front, create some shorter pieces right here around the eye, and those of you guys are like this isn't a pixie. Well, it's a short hair and then, if you want it to be more of a pixie, you could always cut into it even more. I like leaving a little bit of this disconnect into it and again I want to be able to be warm both ways. So I cut it, so it's basically looks good both ways, and this is just pinch cutting, so anything that I feel is just a little heavy. I just pinch it and cut through another good spot to take a section, bring it over and then 50 % cut, especially somebody's got real thick hair through 50 % cut, just like that 50 %, and now the only thing that I'm noticing about this cut. For me is it's got a little bubbly feel to it. So what I'm gon na do is blow it dry for two seconds. Just get some of that loose hair out we've been doing a ton of texturizing in it, so I want to get that loose, hair out and just kind of reactivate the hair. For me I like to because sometimes when you're cutting hair and then you start to cut it shorter, sometimes you just need to reactivate reshape it a little bit. It'S kind of what I mean. I don't really mean that all right we're getting there, but you guys think so far. Okay, there we go. Oh Emma you're welcome you're, very, very welcome all right. Let'S go here, good vibes, good vibes, thanks, Christina appreciate it awesome get in there awesome Shelly! Thank you. Christina the crest happy hour with splitting hair, so true, so true, alright, any suggestions on affordable mannequins to practice on and practice techniques. On here's my thing - and I definitely am trying to figure out how I can come up with a better way to this camera, to come up with a better way to help you guys kind of come up with a way to work through a mannequin a little Bit better, so you get more out of it, because I wouldn't recommend getting a cheap mannequin for two reasons. First off the hair is hard to work with if it's cheap, most of the time too, it's harder to color, cheap mannequins, because a lot of times the hair is not real and three. The the places that mannequins are made is a really sketchy thing, so we're cheap if a mannequin is cheap. It'S kind of like if scissors are cheap, it's they're, cheap, they're, cheap for a reason and the situation or the environment of where they're made the people. The way that they're treated are not treated well, they're working 24 hours a day, putting hair in individually by hand pivot point huh. It goes against all of that, so they they have an S ee. I forget, let me tell you actually important stuff guys you got to know this stuff so right here, ese 8,000, see if it'll scanner cover my face, though ese 8,000 compliance. So basically, it's the it's a tool for implementing international labor standards to protect workers along each step of the supply chain. So basically it protects the workers to make sure that everything's done in the right way. So that's why mannequins cost quite a bit, because this is an artist puts this stuff in by hand guys so pivot point mannequins are the only people I stand by. I love those guys to death and what they do for the industry, and hopefully I got some more projects coming up with them as well, but definitely check out. This is the Erica mannequin from pivot point. I love this one. It'S not super expensive and as long as you don't chop her hair off like this right away, you know you can get a lot of haircuts out of a long mannequin and do a lot of different things with it. Okay - let's see I'm going to finish this up here, my mic is dying, so that's what I'm doing right now. It'S got to change the batteries, Oh Friday, Friday, Friday Friday. So if you guys have questions all right, tada, yes, yes, all right! So, oh boy! Okay, here we go we're back we're back we're back all right, so I'm gon na finish off a little point cutting throughout we did tons of texturizing, but now just to take away a little bit of a bubble. Let me go back to this camera here. So what I'm gon na do is just a little bit of slide cutting through it. The reason I'm changing things up without the razor here is that with the scissor I just feel like. I can really hone in on specific points, so I'm just going in and slide cutting. This is the Mizutani puffin scissor, it's a dry, cutting scissor five and a half inch. Just a heads up to you guys. We did. We now offer payment plans for the scissors on the website. So if you go to shop FSC com, you can get the carving comb and get the scissors and get the combs whatever. You need appreciate the support on that and just sliding, through removing some weight, taking out some of that bubble, just trying to make it a little sleeker. You look at that see the difference between the heaviness over here and the sleekness. Here, that's what we're accomplishing with this slight cutting through, I just softly dial in at an angle same thing over here. One thing I like to do is just use my back hand here to just keep everything steady when I'm cutting this way. I just helps me out: I don't know some people don't have to I'm a shaky guy. Sometimes now, I'm gon na take a little length off this, nothing wrong with that length, but just want to soften it a bit a little bit of point cutting in there. That makes sense. Thank you guys, yeah all right. So now I'm gon na finish it. This is gon na be the final moment. The final countdown, the final thing before Friday, what amazed yeah, snap, crackle and pop this is joy. Co body shake texturizing spray spray. It all over her head fog up the whole room, grand finale, all right. You got crazy air. Now, I'm gon na control it brush it out, get all that product saturated in there. Now, when I start popping it with my fingers here so to see it come to light iron still on still hot a little list out couple pieces here doing these fringy pieces get a little straight, smooth feel to those yes I'll, just grab little pieces all right. Last little bit here, ya know trying to get it by the end of the song, but sometimes life doesn't work out. Alright. What do you guys think cool when you guys think do you like textured edges, all that through there? What do you think Cindy you're welcome? Thank You, Tracy, like it's cool and, like I said she can wear it, either way, so it flips, you know back and forth by definitely fun olá texture, Nikki you're a liar come on Nikki. I don't even know what that means. Actually. Thank you guys so much. Thank you Emma. Thank You Kathleen. Thank you with flair, nice appreciate it Mickey nice um. Thank You Sherri! Thank You. Candice, let's see in the back here very Hollywood. Good power cut, sweet glad you guys like it, and then you could also. Let me see how much I can really mess this thing up. Let'S see if we can get the texture in it, these mannequins all have a little bit of wave to them back to me. Come back there, you go pretty fun little more of a wavy feeling to it. Yeah I like the disconnection. Obviously, if I wet it and then diffuse it, we could get much curl here that it would. I don't know I just love the texture and the differences in lengths. It makes it fall really cool, all right, Natalie Imbruglia 1998. Nice, like that, alright guys cool, very awesome. Thank you guys so much for being a part of today's class. I want to encourage you guys to go to our app, which is FSE now and download that app. We definitely we just had another update today, go out, it's a super cool way for you guys to communicate as hairdressers share your work. It'S a social media. Basically, a social media platform for hairdressers, where you guys can share your work, build a community talk to the people that are on this chat already. I can see your work on there and then also that builds you a profile on a website called stylus, locator comm, where stylus can search your profile on this is, let me see if I am able to share. I can't right now see if I can. If I can open the screen settings, I can dairy display nope. That'S this one primary display. Now, it's not showing you guys anyways I'll figure out how to do that, but um and then I'll show it to you guys, but for some reason right now: it's not it's not doing it. But I, if you go to stylus locator comm, you can see people's profiles, but basically you build a profile share all of your work and then we encourage people that are watching this right. Now people that watch all of our stuff that, if you're looking for a stylus that follows our education as part of our community, go to stylus locator comm and put in your zip code and their profiles will pop up and then you can send them a message. You fill out your profile and then you guys can talk back and forth. They can talk to you through the app so as a stylist go download the F se now app. This is the app go check it out and then I'll be right back nope that didn't work, videos FS now all right. So that's the app guys so hope you guys take advantage of that. Go sign up, create a free profile. It'S super easy and you guys can be on the app as well. I have it right here. You guys will see here's the fic now app like this opens up. It'S got all of our education, so you can flip through all the education videos that we have also you've got the community where you can see people's work and you can share your work. You can like people's work comment all that stuff and then we've also got a messaging system in there. Where you can message, stylists clients can message you and you can message them back. It'S super cool very excited for you guys to to check it out. Try it out see what you think and become part of the FSE community. It'S free! So no worry in dropping cash. The only place you should drop. Some cash is shop, FSE comm, if you're looking for and not, if you're, not. If you're looking for a razor comb clip everything that we use in the video today, you can find on shop FSE. We have payment plans for the scissors. The carving combs are 39 bucks, so super cheap we've got brushes on there, ergo brushes so tons of cool stuff on there, and i hope you guys take advantage of that. Thank you so much Akshay. Thank you. So much Dave you're very welcome. Thank You.
