Tips And Tricks For Blending Long Extensions Into Short Hair

Tips, tricks, and how-to's on blending long extensions into short, fine hair. This video isn't really for the beginner...this is not a tutorial on how to install extensions. It's more for someone who has done their own extensions before, but need a few tips on blending their own shorter hair into their longer extensions.

Okay, so I am like full-on hiding out the closet right now. This is embarrassing, but my husband's suggestion I am gon na put together a little YouTube video on how to put in long tape in extensions when you've got short, fine, layered hair. So I wanted to do my own little tips and tricks after you kind of talked me into it. So my goal, this is my lovely Suzy head. So these are my clip ins, which I love, but if I really want to put this amount of hair and length into mine, it takes a good half-hour, 45 minutes and the clips you know, can kind of pull and it's really heavy it's gorgeous. I love love. Love this hair, but this is the goal like all the layering and everything but in the tape ends. So I hope it helps somebody out there. So here we go apologize like this is straight out of the shower and long dry and there's no product, and it looks terrible. I know that I get it, but I'm gon na tell you something to do different than probably every other video I've seen start in the front and the top this to blend. This is the most important part make sure that's all layered and exactly how you want it then move on this just shows my hair, how thin and fine it is. How tiny my ponytail is for that it's totally possible to put long extensions in this hair. Alright, the colors and believe it or not all of the brightest ones. They were blond last night they're, my old blonde extensions, and so I just used box dye. I have a favorite that I use that makes them this vibrant and I'll put a picture of it, and but so it took the color really well, but I do use a color depositing shampoo every single time I shampoo in order to keep them vibrant. Otherwise, when you have blond extensions that you've put a more vibrant color on, they will fade pretty quickly and something else that I do is instead of putting too same color together. I actually like to take the red and the violet and put them together and then sandwich them different ways, because you kind of have the effect of either the dark peeking through the lighter or a high light effect of the light or peeking through the darker. And that way it just blends without looking stripy like I wouldn't want big chunks of the lavender next to big chunks of the red I kind of like to mix them up so that they're just a little bit more blended. So just one of the things I've learned, I'm gon na just show a few. My very first one is right off center and my hair falls this site, and so there'll be a good amount of hair covering it and, like I just said, with, you've got the red and the violet, and because I already have like this lighter highlighted area with More red, the brighter color I want that to be on top, so I'm putting the violet underneath and the red on top to kind of go with that highlight that's already there. So, to do that, I actually want to do the red first, because I'm gon na put it on top and then lay it over. So my hair is clean. It'S dry. I already have my tapes on and I just want to put it really close. The closer you get to your scalp means the longer you can go before having to move them up, so just press it on there really good, and then you can use a rat tail comb if you want or whatever, but I just wispy finger pull it up And then you just want, like the barest hint of hair, really not a lot. You just want it so that it's not sticky just that amount of hair to be stuck to it. Lay it over pull off the tabs of the violet line it up and you're. Just sandwich your small amount of hair in between the other hair, just press and hold for a minute, and it's as easy as that tape ends are really fast to put in, and I'm actually doing a combination of tape, ins and the flat tips. So I don't have a ton of these and I'm just recycling hair, like all of this hair used to be different colors, including the blonde. My bosses, black in here I've, got all kinds of colors. I went and got some additional hair, but they were very pink and very purple, so I used five different box colors to change them to these gorgeous hues and it was perfect. I kept a few hot pink out for highlight and about 2000 flat tips in, and I always double them up. The tips themselves are so tiny. It'S really easy to, but two or three of these. So that's what I do and then you kind of you've got that thicker layer in there to do the flat tip. I thought that hair, you don't put two in there. Just super easy there's, no way that you deal with it two items in there, but two flat tips super easy crimp it down double crimp it there you go so you have a much thicker strand of hair which will be awesome for layers. So you can see that already it's not like wispy, nice and thick. I just have the front done and I haven't even like curled it or than anything with it. Don'T you just love this awesome anyway, with the front oh see like even I have not done anything no curling. This is just like after I dyed it and let it dry overnight. I didn't even blow it dry, so it's kind of like all kinked up and stuff, and I always end up tweaking it more at the end like that there. What do you see there's way too much distance between my layer and that layer so I'll have to add or trim to make that work, but it is absolutely possible to have my length of hair and get it long and make look totally seamless. So wait, I'm not gon na put any more in a lot of people like putting it down a lot lower. I don't um it's easy to pull up the ponytail and not have anything show if I don't go any lower than this, and if I want to wear it down my hair short enough, it doesn't usually peak out right here in the front, but a lot of Times I will just take this and put a tiny little ponytail right at the back, and it keeps it back and out of the way - and nobody can see it to the point where I need a trim a little bit. Don'T ever cut straight across okay, this area doesn't grow back, he'll ruin your investment, but if I can see, I've just got some like strawberries cut vertically, so I don't know if you can see that, but I'm gon na pay into it. This way, don't ever put a blunt cut into extensions and that's a giveaway. So if you can cut it like that kind of so so then it matches wherever you want your final layer to be. I don't know if you can see, there's a move it, but less is more. Do it a little bit at a time because it doesn't grow back mostly like it, but I do have these super bright little highlight pieces that I want to put mostly in the front. I have a couple in the back and what I actually didn't even buy. These so I was halfway done with my hair. So now I'm gon na go back through and just add in the under layers. I don't do it to be like neon. So at this point I'm just tweaking a little bit. I don't have any more tapings. I just have some items and I'm gon na - do that and curl it a little bit and then I'll show you the final part how I do mine mix straight, it's not bone straight. Like I see in all these videos, which I can't stand, this looks so bad and so obvious, I'm blunt, but so I want to do my version of straight I'll. Just take it's a one inch, maybe one and a quarter, and I just run it down and do that. I don't let it stay for a length of time, but this site I haven't, done it's all like wonky and that site I have, and it's just kind of nice just kind of lays nicely. So I'll do all of it this way and show, and then I'll curl it a little bit and show that to make sure that you're bending your hand back the entire time, so that when those shorter layers are falling out, they still have a slight bend to Them they're curved under and then I'm going to show the back of my hair. This is my version of straight and I wouldn't actually leave the house like this. I don't think the layers are blended enough. A lot of people would and has a little bit too much of a shelf for me. So I'm going to curl it a little bit more and show you that. Let me show you so I take, I usually will take a top layer and the extension piece. That'S underneath and curl those together when I say curl, I do not mean like curl mousse bending together see so when you have this illusion, when the light is kind of bouncing off and you've got the light in the shadows, that's where it starts just to blend It so, instead of doing six straight where you have like the obvious line of your own hair and it keeps going, I don't care how good the color is. You can always tell celebrate the layers instead like really make them pronounced, and that will give you a better more look. I'M gon na do a few more and I'll. Show you the front two. So again, I'm taking my own hair along with some of the extension pieces. I like curling it back away from my face. You do not leave it in for very long back. Please back there naturally like it's curled, so it kind of stays back there. So that's how we do the front pieces, so my own hair right. I guess that, because it's so short, I don't usually have the problem that it comes forward once my own hair is growing and it it comes forward. Then I'll put it back in a ponytail. So um, you can see the different layers and colors. I actually. Naturally, I have less hair on this side than this side. So that's how I and do it with my extensions. I just do less hair. Just because that's my natural I try to. I try to just go with as much as my own callaghan the way that my hair moves as possible, just because I makes it look more natural. Oh, let me show you the back. You can see the movement moves, pretty good how's. It go over the next few days and I'm looking at it and I'm sorry, I'm blowing it dry and stuff like that. I may end up in just a few more layers towards the bottom, but otherwise I should be okay. I'M gon na go take this out in the natural sunlight. So you can see you look gorgeous color, okay, I'm trying to walk into the Sun, so you can actually see all the colors of my hair. So I hope it's working hope you can see how vibrant it is. I love it remember. My goal was for my tapings hair to look like my clip. It pick it up here, hair, I think pretty close. There'S good movement, good layers super thick like it's like Kardashian, perfect. I could put it in a pony fact. Let me see if I can back up you can see, because I don't put them all the way down here. It'S super easy, but a pony tail in any way. I think I achieved my goal, so I hope that I helped somebody. This is less a tutorial and more just some tips that I've learned, because even 40 year old moms one have to do so.

﹁ Nek0z ﹂: Beautiful color blend I love how you did the hair in layers before you put the extensions in! I’ve been getting my extensions done by a professional and feel I do a better job, I’m in cosmetology now and do my own for going on two years! Love the tips, thanks so much for sharing!

Haleigh Maxwell: This helped soooo much! Thank you! I had mine done professionally and hated how she did them so this will help me a ton!

Mulberry: This is amazing. (Love how the eyeshadow matches too.) Thanks!

samantha hatfield: Thanks hun! They looked amazing!! You really did a great job! I’m getting ready to do tape ins on someone who has a short blunt very thick bob..do you have any tips on how to blend it where it’s so thick?

Marisa Jane: Incredible job! And btw, you are absolutely stunning... both with short and long hair! Since you clearly know what you’re doing, can I get your opinion? I have fine, thick hair that is naturally dirty blonde level 7. I have a lot of blonde highlights with straight across bangs. The bangs are pretty heavy but they don’t look heavy since my hair is fine. Still they go back fairly far (not just a thin amount of hair). I went to a new salon this last time and the stylist either used a developer that was too strong or overlapped the bleach because most of my bangs have snapped off. I also have a lot of breakage near my temples and all over the top layer of my hair. It’s not a good look. I can blend the top pieces well enough and put extensions on the sides to fill it out but the bangs look terrible. They are very short and choppy. Is it possible to add extensions in bangs? As I mentioned before, they start pretty far back so I think I I’d be able to hide the tracks. What are your thoughts? Have you ever done this or seen it done well before? Thank you so much!

Grace Lotz: This helped so much. Your hair is sooo shiny and healthy looking

antonio snyder: I love the highlighted look, I'm thinking of trying something similar myself

clipinqueen: OMG! I love that you start in the front. That is the way I do it as well. I don't know why more people don't do it that way. Love the video. Thanks.

Stephanie Moccardine: Because even 40 year old moms want to have pretty hair!!! That’s exactly why I was watching the video ❤️

Maresa Ventura: Thank you for this video it was so helpful! You have a really nice personality you should keep making videos!

Myra Bangs: Best video I’ve watched I have clip ins but I think I’m going to get some tape ins now! Thank you!

MightIAdd Podcast: I have used tape in my hair and wig glue remover made it slide right out no hair loss

Faye Mass: Best video iv seen so far. I think I'm gonna do my front first then my back. .... I just always worry I'll run out of extensions and the back won't look right and be too thin.

Season Hatcher: Great job! Your hair looks beautiful.

Winnie Ames: Wow! Amazing job!!

Lea Seberg Fladstad: How long can tape extensions be on hair, can it be used again several times on the hair, will it hold on the hair without falling off and can it make hair worn?

Raffaelle Carraspedez: The best video I have seen on this topic wow

Duchesss: Does anyone know what lengths were used? I am doing it a bit different myself this time. I normally get all 18 inch, wondering if it blends better going for 1 box of 18inch and 2nd box of 16

Kristi Matash Johnson: I’m a hairdresser and 99.9% don’t know as much as you! Is a year ft or 1/2 pt for 2 in Ohio! If your one of those states, like Ohio all you have to do is pay to practice in another state! Ohio and a handful of others are harder states to get licensed, but I started in my 40’s and passed the State board on my first try, you’re a lot younger! You are gorgeous and probably already have a client base!!! I don’t know your career, but if you got your license you could do a lot part time because I can tell you love it. Thanks for the video it was awesome!

Noah: I love this how high up did you go with the extensions like toward your scalp?

FYsqueak: This looks so good! How did you get the blonde extensions to take on the red color (where the actual glue tape is put on)?

Holli D**: Your hair color is beautiful! Really suits you.

jolene dejesus: How many tape ins did she use for her heard , my hair is similar to her length and fullness and need to know before purchasing online

Amber Randolph: I have really been thinking about trying tape ins but the hair in the front is to my shoulders and the back is to the base of my neck. Do you have any suggestions?

Rachele Kramer: This looks really good, considering doing this verses the clip in,But how long will these stay in your hair???

Lea Seberg Fladstad: How many tape extensions did you put on your hair and are all same length?

Alyssa Horne: Could you put tape in extensions in a pixie cut?

Amethyst: Your hair did not look terrible before the extensions. It's a really cool hairstyle

Style Esthétique: Thank you soooooo much xxxxxx

Christine Todd: How many pieces did you use?

Erin S: I just got extensions and my hair is like yours. But the stylist started in the back, put ALL of the extensions on the back of my head and I have the worst, stupidest mullet. I hate it. I wish I had seen this (or the stylist had seen it) first. I look so stupid. Your hair is gorgeous.

Dayannaa: How many did you use ?

Peace Love And Hope: how many did you use?.
