Suppress My feelings: The makeup artist were more “goth” than the models
titsoutforlusikka: 70's punk 80's trad goth 90's goth and grunge 2000's emo and scene How can someone make such a bad research?
minky: punk and alternative culture was and still is a huge movement... not a fashion trend among celebrities.
Wangji xd: dude just because someone has dark lipstick doesn't mean they're goth TT
Finn TheHuman: They just gave everyone black eye shadow and said “Bam, it’s goth.”
beththefakeginger: Nobody: Literally nobody: Video writers: “Let’s add glitter eye shadow! That screams punk rock!”
Kelsie Mak: Me: thinking that this doesn't seem right or accurate, checks comments, okay we are all in agreement.
EJ Sloop: Wait... we're grouping punk and goth together now? Last time I checked, the two are very different, like super different.
Nico: I didn’t give myself tattoos with a sewing needle for y’all to do this to us
Spark Sparkles: How could they forget about emo I remember many people in the 2000’s were emo not StEaMpUnK
Channart: i love how these videos sound factual but it’s actually complete bs
Clabbert: When they said “grunge” on the 90s girl, I flipped
Radio.Meddows: The makeup artists were more accurate then the actual models I exited the video when they mentioned Rhianna I was just done
ashesofcolour: HOW DID YOU GUYS COMPLETELY MISS SCENE/EMO/SCREAMO/GOTH 2000S STYLE LIKE WOAH TOTAL MISS
Cerridwen Rodriguez: So, if it was just “100 years of Vamp,” you’d be good. Unfortunately, there’s nothing about the origins of Goth, which is traceable back to the late 1970’s, and had a really distinct look that evolved into some other looks not covered here.
Just want to make a playlist: Y’all just gonna skip over emo like that never happened ?
Jimmy Smith Jr: 1:50 she looks normal, not alt. 2:13 she looks normal, not alt. why can't you just do goth, or vamp, or punk? they are literally nothing alike and you just smoosh them together like this.
axel gunne: oml they included WII patriotism, they clearly don’t know what counter culture stands for
Emily Stevens: I didn't wear MCR shirts and fry my side bangs to a crisp with a straightener in 2009 for y'all to call "Steampunk" the defining goth look of the 2000s lmaooooooo
Nikki Seelam: Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the eyeliner you referred to as “henna” is actually “kajal” for the Middle Eastern Vamp look. I might be wrong though!
Derpywhale Da hooman: * Slaps a bit of black makeup on their faces* Allure: ya this is accurate
cant get enough: im upset that siouxsie wasnt mentioned once. she literally is the QUEEN of goth
Alexandra Leigh: On every one they make the model wear a choker, then slap on dark eyeshadow and a berry lip and call it a day
Slipping jimmy: Ah yes Rhianna, my gothic icon
Naomi Ruth: Are you serious, I mean clearly no one on this team has ever been a part of any of these subcultures, but how'd they miss the mark so badly?!
Bunny: I was waiting to find my 2000s emo look with colorful back-combed hair, bangs over the eyes, and hot topic. Im glad they added pastel goth at the end, but what about cyberpunk?? Im disappointed.
carb0nc0py: I knew this was gonna be wack when they put punk and goth into the same category and used it interchangeably
Sierra Heckler: Putting Mortician Addams and Rihanna in the same video as “gothic icons” is disrespectful. Also I know this is inspired by the characters but Morticia would never ever wear pastel eyeshadow!
Jysela Alvarez: are you serious?.... yall really just think black eyeshadow and a dark lip w/ some eyeliner is goth?.... I cant-
Vamp Slugz: I did not argue with my mother and get called a freak to be portrayed as this
pixachuu: Me thinking Lydia Deetz was gonna be eighties: Me after seeing it’s just dark eyeshadow with bright pink cheeks and lips:
anika ogalde: Being a professional makeup artist who has studied and specialized in the history of different styles of makeup. I can professionally say that this video is wack.
Marissa Chow: THEY CALLED MORTICIA ADDAMS VAMP I CANT EVEN
hellend: "Rihanna experiments with goth makeup, encouraging others to do so too" ok i'll just pretend i didnt read that
lily hooker: they either looked normal or like they were wearing a halloween costume. none of this was accurate and they act like "goth" is a ginormous choker and that's it
Scarlett Roger: The 70’s onward were my eras. And I can truly say that the hair and makeup featured here is totally wrong. You get a point for effort but - on everything else. And when you do another makeup and hair compilation please do your research and ask the people who actually lived through those years and took their makeup and hair seriously (like me)
Jana: I‘m 16 and I could’ve told you more about punk and goth fashion and history throughout the 70s-2000s
Emzie1021: 2000s: pete wentz, gerard way, and ryan ross have left the chat
Brandy Loutherback: Theda's hair was always styled though! You can't just slap a headband on your head and say that's Theda.
K W I S P Y: this video is extremely inaccurate and disappointing.
von Darkmoor: I feel like this was made by people that dont know, or were never a part of, any of this.
Your Favorite Emo Theater Kid: “Ok, let’s see... what eye makeup did punk/emo kids wear on the 2000’s? Oh I know! GOLDEN GLITTER!!!!!”
TeddyBoiO Talks: They.. They do know there's a difference between the three styles right?
beth marie: this makes me mad on so many levels. most of these i wouldn’t even recognize as goth/punk
f!0na!!!: ah yes 70's punk, the most beautiful age for people with extreme amounts of pent up anger (I'm looking at you Johnny Rotton)
Calico_Comix: “Let’s give them black lipstick and eyeshadow that’s really punk goth” But seriously I don’t think people walked around with their hair like the bride of Frankenstein
Abby Stewart: They didn’t even know they were called liberty spikes sos, I need revival after watching this
Ingrid Aguero: Love the first 3 looks, will wear them today every day.
Herine thoroughly: lol these makeup artists are worse than me painting on my emo makeup when i was 12
Marilyn G: I dressed like a punk and goth in my 20s before I even knew the style had a name...it just was natural to me.. nice video.
Graciela Sosa Pulido: Dear allure: as a magazine, you are recognized as a temple of knowledge of products and history of beauty. On 100 years videos: you look like a lost kid doing an video essay for Monday test. You are better than this! Come on!! I know you can get to the level of your magazine!
hschippnick: I love the 1970s girl absolutely stunning look!
Vicente Helianthus: The 80's girl is absolutely stunning!
Ell games: okay so where’s the trad goth and romantic influences lmao
Jana Cahill: I like how the 1960's makeup look made it fun.
Shelly Michaels: How did you leave out the early 80's Goth look. It was the best goth look ever
Trant fire: lets just take a moment to mention how beautiful these ladies are.
B'Elanna O'Dea: Really did just skip 2000s Myspace Emo and Scene tho
Christina Mussared: I love that they featured so many ethnic models. Normaly these goth/vamp type videos are of a porcelain white chick in super dark colors. Which obviously I'm ok with lol. But I had lots of black and asian friends in middle and high school who went through the trapt pants era along with me. The make up itself was so so. But glad I got to watch.
laura: are you serious. this video was doing so good up until the 80s.
Burnt Lemonade: I usually like these videos but you guys missed so many! And they all look the same but then some of them look like everyday looks for that time. And like someone said in the comments “The makeup artist were more goth than the models” and I have to agree.
GlamorouslyNotHere: Guys, stop leaving hate, this is accurate. For stereotypical Disney movie “goths.”
Okinawa Cairo: title: goth and punk video: sTeAmPuNk AnD rIhAnNa
Bella Rose: My first reaction to this was “What do they know about being alt?!” And I was right.
Hat: I absolutely love (and hate this content) how all of us knew there was something wrong about this video and ohhh boy, it was not *just* 'something' but (almost) e v e r y t h i n g. Even the non-alternatives too.
a r friedman: Allure showcases goth makeup beautifully.
Lizzie Beth: Oh my Gawd.....I'm not even a new waver, a punk or a goth but I remember exactly how all three styles looked and this ain't it. Vamp...look at some of Betty Page's old pictures and also Grace Jones. New Wave/Punk.....1980s anything.....Killing Joke, Human League, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Cyndi Lauper. Goth....Black Veil Brides, Marilyn Manson.
Morgana Bourggraff: I'm genuinely offended by how poorly this video was done.
Ann Oldham: I remember reading somewhere that the red lipstick craze in the 40s was due to Hitler hating it with a passion.
Aleksandra Mandic: Yaay for alternative fashion history!! But you forgot metal (70s, 80s), poodle rock (80s) and poppunk (00s)
Latecia-kitkat: Does anyone else remember when these 100 years of beauty videos were actually good and well researched?? Me neither.
Strider: Despite this being *completely* inaccurate, the people in this were simply gorgeous and looked like they had fun either way
Eureka: My favorite is 90’s. Because I remember it too well
Feeling Purpley: Punk, grunge, steampunk, goth, etc. are all VERY different styles. Which you would know if y'all put even the slightest bit of effort into researching this first.
Madelyn Encinas: the opportunity for a trad goth look for the 80s was totally missed
Sammy Space Alien: Thank you for encludeing us pastel girls
bloody bitch: Forget scene and emo. You missed HUGE goth icons of the 80s. That's pretty much where goth as we know it today originated. Robert smith, siouxsie sioux. The trad goth scene was booming.
rosecake1: Love these videos so informative
Cici _art_21: i feel like this is completely accurate in some ways. if you go back and look at subcultures during these eras. yall are right tho they really did slap on some black eyeliner and eyeshadow and said its goth
Regina_ Filange: So.. I will say, the 90s seemed pretty accurate ♀️ My friends didn't call themselves Grunge though
Salomé Heredia: I knew that Morticia would make an impact x)
The Planet Mars: Do us ALL a favor. Don't do another one of these involving alternative beauty until you do some actual research.
ur gay: they completely missed out what started most of the goth subculture, trad goths. and it's the same with emo and scene, they missed them out aswell.
VaL tHe PaL: as an alt kid, mostly grunge, im pretty sure morticia would never wear preppy colours in her life
Lily: My favorite goth is trad goth. Especially the music
Shadow Girl: I loved how people added in LGBTQ into this video. It made me feel more comfortable of being a non-binary who loves this style.
D T: Punks, goths, and vamps watching this video and coming away with nothing:
Eunae Kim: 2020s - literally nothing that can be interpreted as punk or goth is off limits!
ashley honahan: Model for 2010 is drop dead gorgeous
DesertMortician: That Pastel goth was THE most phoned in look I have ever seen. The model who wears it has a right to look pissed.
Christy Angel: I waited through the whole video for a typical emo look in the 2000’s and was very disappointed.
Leanne Gerstl: How can this be a video about vamp beauty with no mention of Vampira or Elvira?
Rikki Romero: some of the looks aren't doing justice for the vamp/punk trends of the era but it's really cool they added pastel goth and mentioned steampunk. While the looks for them may have been very loose, the representation is important!!! punkbabies everywhere thank you for this vid
Lad: 1970's got to be my favorite hairstyle
Vitória de Alencar: I've never felt so offended in my entire life, and I'm not even goth!
ThatFat_ RatOwo: Ok but 80’s goth and 2021 e culture fashion ✨✨✨✨
Boo Spanyer Cassiopeia: Everyone looks smashing
Selma Rose: My style is the complete opposite of goth as it’s very girly but I know for a fact that most of these weren’t considered “goth”. it was basically just models with dark makeup looks and that’s it.
Eunae Kim: When you are just waiting to see what they were going to do for the eighties...
Goth girl Graveyard: I feel like all of the years of ACTUAL dark fashion and history have just gone to waste.
