All right, hey, what's up everyone, it's me narada african hair guide and i'm here to give a youtube natural hair trends. Tear list i don't know this is like a thing for like natural hair, but i don't think i've ever seen. Anyone like do tearless for natural hair trends, gimmicks methods and things, so i thought why the hell not how's everyone doing out there. We are live streaming this so um, i'm gon na go ahead and jump into it for everybody. That'S gon na be watching the playback um shout out and thanks to everyone, that's hit that thumbs up everyone that is tuning in yeah yep y'all got a special treat out of me today. Y'All know i usually come on every thursday, but y'all got me today. I don't know how long this is going to be this. This video should probably only take about 20 minutes, maybe 30, although we do have quite a few trends. So i asked you all to send in um some trends that you know of on my community tab and you all delivered. I have 45 different trends to go through now. Some of the trends the job was listed. Y'All was given like different hairstyles and haircuts and things and that's all well and dandy, but i wanted to for this video the strix uh to focus strictly on um, hair growth trends, methods and things like that. So there's a couple of stuff that kind of deviates from that, but we're gon na focus primarily on that also before we get started. This is based, on my personal opinion, persona, personal and professional opinion. Now i understand some of you out. There may subscribe to some of these trends. Some of you out. There may be youtubers that promote these trends. Look, that's all between you yourself and your audience like i. I don't have a dog in this fight. Honestly, i stay in my little bubble in my salon and here on my channel, but we're going to poke some fun at it. And i just ask that you don't be sensitive and if you are going to be sensitive like just be prepared, because i'm ready to unleash, if you want to go that route with me all right. So that being said, let's just have fun enjoy for what it is and let's get started. So all right, the first, oh, let me go over the the actual tears okay, so i've divided the tears into five categories. Okay, let's start from the worst. The worst is the hair. Here'S the command your hair here is the command break okay break, so the trends that are gon na go in here are typically ones that are going to promote damage and things of that sort. If it's unhealthy um, if it's you know like that's, that's where it's going to end up all right next, we have girl, shut the [ __ ] up this one like if this, the [ __ ] just sounds stupid and, like you wasting my time your time, My time, air time, like it's going in this category all right next, we have no, i'm not allowing you to pump me full of [ __ ], i'm not buying it. That just means the trend may not be all that great, but it's not all that bad either whatever it is promising. I'M just not buying the [ __ ], all right and the next tier is okay i'll, allow it i'm not crazy about it. But it's not the worst thing out there, so hey go for it and lastly, we have i'm here for it, and that means i'm in full support of whatever this trend is. It must be promoting something great for hair growth or just hair in general. So i'm here for it all right with that being said: let's go ahead and get started all right, so the first one we have here is 100 pumps of conditioner. So let me see i have some notes jotted down, so i might have to refer around um in this outer order too. So just kind of you know work with me here. Let'S see the 100 coats 100 layers of blank, this all started about five years ago, and i really don't even know like where this originated from or who started it. I don't know if it started from nails like i know i've seen 100 coats of nail polish. I don't know if it started from makeup 100 coats of lipstick, 100 coats of foundation - i don't know but somewhere down the line, it kind of bled into the hair guru arena, and so people just started slapping 100 coats of whatever they could find to put in Their hair i've seen 100 coats of gel 100 coastal conditioner 100 coastal hair spray 100 coats of wigs hair extensions. Like you name it they they just they just unleashed it just literally found and everything they could put 100 coats of in their hair. Now i never really got into watching those videos. I know a lot of people like enjoyed it at the time. To me, the [ __ ] was just really stupid. I don't know it was just really stupid. I remember i did a rant video and i actually talked about briefly talked about this whole hundred coats of conditioner [ __ ], and i was like instead of sitting here and doing. Oh my god. Oh my god, it's so much conditioner! It'S something right here. I was like well can we do a challenge and do a hundred coats of self-acceptance, because i mean a lot of y'all seem to be lacking in that department, but i mean i guess i guess no one decided to do that one. So we're gon na put a hundred uh layers of in the girl, [ __ ] girl shut the [ __ ] up. Don'T nobody want to see this [ __ ] all right, moving right along? We have apple, cider, vinegar, rinses. Now let me see what i got for this one uh here we go here we go here. We go all right, so apple, cider, vinegar, um, the it's an acidic solution, which means it ranges on the ph scale between two and three um. I just want to clarify no pun intended that apple cider vinegar is not a clarifier. Okay, it's not a clarifier! It'S it's not going to like get rid of all the build up in your hair. You'Re not you're not going to come out of braids that you had it for three months: rinse it with some apple, cider, vinegar and think your hair is clean. This is that's not how it works now. What it can do, um is that it's great for scalp health um, those who have scalp issues like dandruff um, because of the acidity it counteracts the growth of the melazesia and yeast overgrowth on the scalp, and it just helps to balance out and normalize. The scalp's ph um, and so it's great for that - it's also micro, antimicrobic, uh anti fungal, so all of that plays into healthy scalp. Now, if you don't have any issues with your scalp, you probably don't even need to use it. You might end up shifting and disturbing your your healthy balance with your scalp, so i mean one or two applications is not going to do anything, but really, i would only use it for people that maybe have certain issues, their skype or flaky scalp or some dandruff And things like that, maybe that can help just kind of steer your scalp in a healthy balance range okay to use apple, cider, vinegar, rinse. You only need about five teas tablespoons mixed with water, and you rinse it through your hair and scalp, and you let it sit there for about a couple of minutes after you shampoo and condition your hair, and then you rinse it out. That'S how it's supposed to be done, um some people, do it before the shampoo aftershave. I don't know i don't know but um you don't you really don't need a lot of it? Okay, because it is extremely acidic so for apple, cider, vinegar, i'm going to say. I'M here for it uh, i'm not against what i'm here, for. I think it's a great idea all right. So apparently, all of this is in abc order. So, okay, oh, this, might take a while all right. Next we have um eurovetic hair care. Let me see if i can find my notes for that all right, ayurvedic, hair care originated from aurovitic medicine. I hope i'm saying the word bro, i'm probably not uh originated from uravidic medicine in india over 5 000 years ago. It was introduced to the u.s in the 1980s, along with other concepts and traditions and things from eastern culture, and it uses various foods, herbs and spices to treat various ailments and deficiencies of the hair. I don't know much of the specifics on it. I'Ve never really heard took in doing any type of uravic um hair care methods. So i'm not particularly knowledgeable in this regard. However um it's in theory, i mean it sounds great. You know natural herbs and spices and things that actually help benefit the hair. Instead of going the route of all these different chemicals and things and ingredients that we have no idea what effects have on our hair and things so um, i'm gon na say i'm here for it all right who said my beard is looking majestic, y'all say that Now wait until it starts going through his different stages, but thank you. Thank you. Thank you, i'm sure all right uh. Next we have baby hairs, not really much to say here. Baby hairs has been here for decades um, for whatever the reason it has been overly popularized now and everybody in a mama is out there buying any and every edge control using any and every combination of products that they can to get their edges. To lay and look like natural baby hairs, um, i'm not gon na lie. I believe some of it is definitely rooted in self-hate, and i i also believe that edge control is one of the worst products they ever could have came out with because uh it's just. I i just don't understand the innate incessant desire to have slick, smooth edges that, like lay plaster to your forehead, i just don't understand it now for those of you that naturally have it eh cool whatever. But if you got ta jump through loops and mold and sculpt and shape and do and leave out hair just to do baby hairs, maybe you ain't got baby hairs. You got full ass, adult senior citizen, aarp, edges and, like you, just need to go ahead and slick it in the style and keep it moving. But hey it ain't, my head, so you know what i say: man i'll allow it you do you. If you like it, you love it cool with me. It ain't it ain't. Bothering me all right. Next we have uh the beer rinse. Now. What do i have for this beer ribs, because i haven't seen anything on this in a while, hey mango marie. Thank you so much boo. Let me see, i got some notes, all right: beer rinse, so a beer rinse is supposed to be some type of protein treatment because the beer is enriched with protein in it uh. I guess i i don't know the specifics of it. Okay, but it's supposed to be a protein treatment um, it's said to add strength and shine to the hair um. You are supposed to use flat beard and then shampoo, no you're supposed to shampoo, then rinse with flat beard in your hair. Okay and then you want to rinse it out, and some people leave some of it in um. Back in the day when i remember, people would use beer rinses when they would get heat damaged and they everyone would be like. Oh, if you got heat damage, it's okay use the bearings in your curls to come back, so it kind of makes sense. That is somewhat of a protein treatment. I don't know specifically if it includes hydrolyzed proteins which allows absorption into the cuticle layer, because the molecules are broken down and smaller. I don't know, i tried to look up. The ingredients of beer couldn't find it, so i wasn't gon na waste my time with it. So i'm gon na say no, i'm not allowing you to pump me full of [ __ ] child for all of that. Just just go. Get your protein treatment. Go! Get you a deep conditioner with protein. Go! Get you some effigy. Providing me leave it go! Get you some effigy uh green tea, reconstruct uh leave and reconstructurize, or whatever the [ __ ]. This [ __ ] is called. I can't even think of the name, just get you some [ __ ] protein. Why are you? Why are you sitting here poor bearing your hair for what you're gon na be walking around smelling like corn chips, for what? Oh, my god, all right, moving right along? We have the cayenne, pepper, hair treatment ciao. I can't make this [ __ ] up. Okay, so i don't know i don't know who started that um. I don't know where that originated from, but the video started popping up about eight years ago. Um people mixing cayenne pepper into their oils, and i guess it said that the cayenne, pepper um it causes heat and increases blood circulation in the scalp, thereby increasing nutrients that your hair is going to receive from your blood um and you know, stimulate hair growth um. I don't contest that i mean i'm sure. That probably is the case. My thing, though one thing i'm really concerned about, is like what, if you like, apply this oil right and you misogyny in and then like. You started touching on your face and rubbing your eye. Now you just maced yourself for for no reason like i i don't know there are so many easier ways to go about increasing blood circulation for the scalp that i just feel like to pour cayenne pepper in your head, just to make it warm and hot, and You know soothe your scalp yeah. No, i'm just gon na put that in girl, [ __, ] you're doing too much you do it way too [ __ ] much all right. Now. Next, we have eco styler gel being cancelled. So what do i have for this? One okay, this started about four years ago, and it originated from a youtuber by the name of alopecia free with jazz. So she made this one video explaining why she was no longer using eco, styler, gel um, saying that many of the ingredients were linked to um cancer and causing skin irritation. And i don't know i tried to watch it. But i didn't watch through the whole thing because it was just lengthy for no reason i don't know if she was experiencing irritation or itchiness from using the eco styler gel or something like that. So she started doing research on the ingredients and she found a lot of info on many of these ingredients, causing cancer and just being harmful to the body overall and health and everything um. And yes, a lot of the ingredients that are in a lot of our products in high concentrations can definitely cause issues with your health, your body, causing cancer exposure to all types of negative things um. She said that the eco style gel contain triethylalamine, which causes skin irritation, which is funny because that's what my um dermatologist was prescribing me for my um hand, eczema whatever for the steroid cream, and you know they warn you like you - can't use it, but so much Because if you do like you could thin out the skin and cause all types of skin issues and stuff, and i'm like girl we're trying to fix my skin, not make it worse so you're trying like are you fighting poison with poison? I'M just i'm confused about this anyways. Another ingredient she mentions is sodium high, droxy, methylene glycinate and it releases formaldehyde, which is linked to cancer. Eco styler gel later contacted her and told her that they use a cosmetic grade that is fda approved in the us with the tri ethylamine, but the other ingredient. I don't know, i don't know if they ever got word back to her about that um or if they deny claims that, if me releases any formaldehyde or anything, but hey people stop using it. So i'm gon na say um, hmm, i'm here for it. I'M here for it, because i honestly never even liked eco styler gel i've tried eco styler gel in the past in my early stages on youtube, and i mean for a gel. It was very much lackluster. In my opinion, i used to use it for slicking. My edges back for puffs and things and the hold on it was subpar at best and decent, at least so i'm not really mad about it being cancelled all right. Here we go next. We have shea bay powder. I know i know y'all see this lady. I know y'all see her this, the same lady that pop up anytime, somebody mentioned shaving powder. She is the literally the spokesperson and she has yet to say a single word about shea bay powder that one video on youtube with whoever featured her showing her putting the shane bay in her hair. I don't know y'all y'all just kind of ran with it and was like okay, she using it and she got super long hair, so i'm gon na use that so here's the thing with that. Let me get my notes on that. Give me a second here. We go so shaylee powder originates from the republic of chad in africa and it's used by the women in chat to prevent hair breakage and promote hair growth. Now here's the thing from my understanding: they use the shea bay powder applied in their hair, braid it up and basically leave it in this braid for a period of time. Y'All was using it like a deep conditioner rinsing it out, leaving it in a mask like y'all y'all weren't, even using it the way these women were using it like. I understand it, ain't really practical to be walking up in your jaw with your hair slathered. In shay bay powder, like your hair gon na be stiff as [ __ ] and the [ __ ] going what it don't move. It'S not gon na move so like i get all of that, but like i'm, not really understanding like why this was so hyped up so much i'm not even so mad. That y'all was like using it as like, a a mask or a treatment or whatever, but like the way that y'all was just like going on and on about how much growth it caused and how much your hair grew. I'M just like. No, so you know what this, what we gon na do, no i'm not allowing you to pump me full of [ __ ], not buying it, i'm not buying it all right are we all still here norada forgot to put wetland extreme gel on the list. Hey. I mean wetlands, a new eco, it's the new eco, all right. I think we got a good thing all right. Let'S keep going next. We have the cherry lola hair treatment. Oh boy, okay, this one. So the cherry lola hair treatment originated by a youtuber of the name, sherry lola 13 years ago. She came up with this formulation that she says, enhances curls and reduces frizz, and the ingredients that she used is the organic yogurt, baking soda and liquid amino acids, and i watched her apply this in her hair and all of that and honestly it just looked like Any old, regular diy, deep conditioning treatment like i don't. I really see a difference so much like she came on her hair was frizzy and dry, of course, as soon as she wet her hair in the shower, it was like smooth and curly, so i don't really know like what the treatment was supposed to do. Um, the baking soda, i'm pretty sure, may have um loosened and softened her hair quite a bit um, but i don't know if i would like go as far as like put that all up in my hair, all the time like as a regular treatment. So i i don't know about that. I'M gon na say: where are we putting this uh? I'M i'm gon na put this in the no i'm not allowing you i'm not buying it, i'm not buying it. I mean it's it's enough. It'S just any other deep diy. Deep conditioner hair treatment, like the same as the rest of them all right. Next, we have this can of coca-cola. You already know what i'm about to do with this one. I don't even think i need to like give any background information on this. So people started rinsing their hair with coca-cola. I don't even know how long ago that [, __ ] was - and i don't even think the trend lasted that long. They were saying that the coca-cola is an acidic solution which is going to help close. The cuticles increase. Shine and make your curls pop enhance your curl definition, and all of that i did a whole video reacting to this lady, pouring coke in her hair and swearing up and down that she loved it and it made her hair. Look so amazing, and even after she finished her hair was still dry, stiff and damaged so um yeah. You know what this is going in. The girl girl shut, the [ __ ] up all right. Next, we have everyone and a mama cancelling coconut oil. So what do i have about this one? Let me see give me a second see now. I can't find all these damn trends and [ __ ], all right, [, __ ], i'm about to just go off the rim. Okay, here we go here. We go everyone and they mama, suddenly hating coconut oil. So literally, i searched on youtube and this all started from natural 85. before natural 85's video of her saying why she wasn't using coconut oil anymore. I could not find a single video before that of people saying they're, not using coconut oil anymore, and why, and even now you still have people making videos on it. My thing is: i've used coconut oil in the past, just like i'm sure most of you did in the beginning in the early stages or whatever, and you might even still use this [ __ ]. Now, i don't think coconut oil is a really great oil to use on your hair and number one. I always say this: coconut oil stinks for most people that use it. I don't know what it does with their body, chemistry with the the the musk and the the sebum and the sweat or whatever. But when y'all leave that mess in your head - and it just sits with your scalp, your hair and your scalp starts smelling musty and it smells like coconut rancid, coconut vinaigrette. That'S what it smells like. It'S almost like it's fermenting on your scalp and it is not a good smell. We'Ve had quite a few people come into our salon and um. We had to tell them like your hair, stinks like and they're like what it does and we're like yeah. It does like, i can smell it like you, use coconut they'd be like how do you know? How do you know? I use coconut oil because i can smell it, it smells you need to stop now. Some people can actually get away with it and it is you know, it's fine. I don't think it's a great oil just because it's a solid at room temperature. So if it's cold outside or the temperature ain't ideal, then your hair is drying up and getting stiff. Um and some people were complaining that um, it is makes their protein sensitive, hair, brittle and break, and all that i i don't know the validity of all of that, but i just know i don't think it's the ideal oil to use in your head now. If it's properly formulated in hair products, okay, cool fine, but you just going in the grocery store, grab coconut oil and slather in your hair, saying you're doing a hot oil treatment. No just no! So you know what your hair here is: the command break. So the hydrogen bonds like okay, break um - i guess it wouldn't go there. I guess it would actually go and i'm here for it, yeah yeah, sorry put it in the wrong spot. They could be using the food grade, they're tied to no see i've seen people use the refined unrefined it just it ain't, it's just it's not now. Speaking of coconuts. Now we have the natural organic relaxers. Oh, my god, so i remember uh briefly hearing about these natural relaxers and let me see if i can find my notes on that. Okay, so this [ __ ] all started 10 years ago. You remember back when we were all figuring out the whole natural hair thing. So this started 10 years ago, people were looking for a natural means of relaxing or texturizing or straightening and smoothing their curl pattern. So of all the natural relaxers i could find, i only found two one was a baking soda relaxer and the other one was coconut cream relaxer. So when i went back and watched the the videos, i was just really dumbfounded and perplexed at how many views the videos got and like how many people were feeding into this fantasy of, like these treatments, actually loosening your curl pattern. All of these relaxers were nothing more than glorified deep conditioners that just weigh down your curls literally, so they were literally just diy up in your kitchen, mixing oils, creams and coconuts, like as a treatment but like as a relaxer. It did absolutely nothing and i don't understand how it like went as far as it did and like, oh god, so as much as you know, it yeah just no, i'm not allowing you to pump me. No, no, no, no [, __ ] that no! This is going in the girl shut, the [ __ ] up shut the [ __ ] up cuz like what no, no all right. What'S this one? Oh okay, so this was a trend that people had where they would deep condition before or not even deep condition. But they would apply conditioner before shampoo. That was a trend for a while, i'm not really sure i'm not really sure where y'all was trying to go with that um. Let me drink some water, it's bad enough! Y'All want to follow instructions and directions. Already it's clear that y'all don't read the damn labels of these products because they tell you what the [ __ ] to do, but y'all want to go and - and i remember i did a video on this too - to just see like the effects of it in The because i was like this should sound dumb, but i'll go ahead and do a video on it. You apply your conditioner or you deep condition before you shampoo and that's it. How does that even make sense like what? What what are you trying to do? So? I remember when i did the video i conditioned first and applied shampoo and people were like they were upset that i went and followed up with conditioner again and i'm like well. Aren'T you supposed to always follow up with conditioners, so i don't i'm not [ __ ] up my hair for no second, no experiment like the [ __ ]. I look like so yeah. It didn't make sense to me. It didn't make sense to y'all, but for some reason people still kept making videos about it. You know what i'm putting this in your hair: here's the command break, so the hydrogen bonds moving right along next. We have co washing now, i'm pretty sure most of us. If not all of us already know what co-washing is co-washing, is you using a conditioner to cleanse your hair, a conditioner and the reason why people use the conditioner to cleanse their hair instead of using shampoo is because they believe the shampoo is drying and damaging to The hair and it um disturbs the curl pattern and things of that sort. Um. Here'S how i feel about that. If you are someone who shampoos and why aren't sorry, not shampoos, if you're someone who cleanses your hair frequently throughout the week, meaning at least two times a week, then i can see you squeezing in some co-washing in the middle of the week, instead of using actual Shampoo um, but outside of that like when, are you gon na reach for the shampoo baby? Because your hair ain't getting clean now see this trend was real popular back in the day and people was like solely co-washing because of the curly girl, myth or whatever, and what they started to notice that their hair started. Looking dull, it started getting dry, they couldn't moisturize it. It was getting brittle and all of this crazy stuff because they had such a build up of the conditioner on their hair. By not cleansing. What do y'all think happened to all the women that was like getting issues with hair patches falling out and alopecia in things from using the wind, conditioner, slash shampoo and the diva curl situation, like they weren't using actual cleansers to cleanse off their hair and probably what Ended up happening is they follicles got clogged damaged or whatever the [ __ ] happened and their hair just said: [ __ ], i'm falling the [ __ ] out, like y'all, have fun with this. So i'm gon na put this in. No, i'm not allowing you to pump me full of [ __ ]. I think co-washing can work under the right circumstances, but i think the emphasis that many people are putting on co-washing is just a bunch of [ __ ]. Alright. Next, we have the curly girl method. Oh boy, this one, okay, the curly girl method started 11 years ago, and it is a natural hair care approach designed by stylist, lorraine massey. She was also the founder of the diva chan, salons she's no longer associated with them, but um. The aim of this method and approach to hair care is to naturally treat naturally curly hair minimizing damage to the hair. Cuticle, maintain, moisture and accentuate the natural curl pattern. So one of the biggest things that they do with this method and the the method is really extensive. There'S a whole book that basically gives tips and suggestions on styling and cleansing and um all of that. But a big thing that she stressed is to co-wash. Instead of use shampoo, we saw how the [ __ ], that [ __ ] ended up with diva uh, the diva curl uh products, and then they she discourages the uses of combs and brushes um, which i can understand that you know disturbing the natural curl pattern Of your hair and things like that, um, that's really all i really know about this. Every time i heard people talk about the curly method, i just kind of tuned it out because i'm like most of these girls, that's trying to do this. Curly girl method, y'all ain't, even curly quote-unquote, so i all right - we just gon na put this in the no i'm not allowing you to pump me full of [ __ ]. I i think this method is very much old and outdated. However, i do think there are tips and suggestions that you can take from the curly girl method, but to just implement it solely as your only resource for hair care. Don'T think that's ideal, all right! Next, we got washing your hair with dawn dish soap. Now this may surprise many of you but um, i'm actually here for it and i'm gon na tell you why um so dawn dish, soap is has a strong formulation that can remove stubborn grease, dandruff and oil that normal clarifying shampoos cannot pull out. I do not typically reach for dawn shampoo when i wash my clients hair. However, we do keep a bottle of dawn in our salon and you might have caught it once or twice. If you looked in some of my videos of me washing hair but um yeah, i do keep that for some clients. Um particularly lock clients that will go periods of time without coming, maybe go to somebody else. Let them do their hair for a few months and then come back and be like hey. So remember me, like um, you used to do my locks. Oh yeah, how's it going oh, what's going on with your hair. Is that build up is? Is your locks, thinning and disintegrating what's happening, so that's when i'll go and reach for the dawn when it's just so dirty so grimy, and i just know that [ __ ], that clarifying shampoo is just gon na literally smear on top of the layer of grease And groundness on the hair and most of the time, the dawn dish soap is enough to at least break down, whatever is on the hair and start pulling and lifting it off um. Sometimes it's to the degree that not even a dog can get it out. So at that point you would have to go to an extreme measure of doing something similar to like a lock bath, um, so yeah, that's why i'm actually here for don, but only in specific situations, not as a regular cleansing situation. So no just stick with your clarifying shampoos, especially if you're a loose natural. You have no reason to to reach for the dawn. You just you, don't all right, extreme protective styling. So a lot of people and a lot of people were trying to grow out their hair to super long lengths, um, and they just had so much trouble just doing it. The good old-fashioned way of just taking care of the hair cleansing on the regular moisturizing um and being minimal with their hair. So what did they do? They decided to be minimal with their hair, but they decided to go to the extreme and leave their styles in for months and months and months at a time, oftentimes not even bothering to cleanse to break down the buildup, the gunk the dirt, and they would literally Just make videos of themselves taking out their dirty hair after six months, eight months, ten months a year and just share sharing and showing all the filth and gunk and nastiness that was sitting in their hair in their scalp all for the sake of growing hair um. Your hair here is the command break, so the hydrogen bonds, like okay break nothing else, needs to be said, moving right along all right. Next, we have what is this: oh fruit, salad, hair treatments, okay, so everybody and they mama. You know we all love doing a little diy playing around in the kitchen and finding things that work. You know i'm guilty of this too, and i think in moderation, it's fine and it can definitely assist with moisture and conditioning, but a lot of people just be doing too [ __ ] much like y'all, be doing too much some of the stuff y'all be using. It smells - and it's just like why, so we got the onion, the onion juice, the rice, water um. The potato was the potato one or is that was i mocking somebody. I think i think somebody used potatoes or something i don't know it like. So many different things where they try to just mix up all types of herbs and ingredients and and salads and things, and then they put it in their hair, called the tree out the avocado. Look, it's cool just like just just pull it back! Some like you. Don'T have to do so much if you want to do a olive oil and honey, deep conditioning treatment, okay, cool like if you want to go and slap some mayo and some egg and mix it with your deep conditioner, all right, cool, but just know you ain't Getting all the protein you think, you're getting most of the ingredients used for protein that comes from these natural ingredients and stuff is not able to absorb into the hair. The best way to introduce protein to the hair is through a balanced diet. Um that way, your body through digestion, is able to break down. All of these huge, complex amino acid chains of protein into more digestible means that your hair can actually take in and flourish from the inside out um. But hey do what you do sis so for that. I'M gon na put that in girl, [ __, ], [, __, ] up yeah, okay, all righty! Here we go here, we go good, oh gina, curl y'all knew it was coming, y'all knew it was coming and it's here, gina curl. Let me see what i got on gina, so the gina curl first originated back in 2012. It was originated by miss gina. Rivera of hair's talent, salon um, it is a remarketed rebranded, jerry curl, that is ammonium based permanent waving solution. This this perm is literally the it's nothing more than the exploitation of black women's insecurities surrounding their hair um. If you go on her page on her youtube, she talks about how her her perm is more desirable than you rocking your natural texture, because it allows for ease of manageability, softer, hair, more defined curls and things of that sort. Instead of actually learning how to work with the texture that you have or maybe just like being able to embrace it now, let's just throw chemicals on it. Um we've literally watched her blatantly lie about not having to reapply this solution to the already processed ends. During a retouch um, some of the issues that people encounter using this uh remarketed jerry curl, is that their curls will loosen over time. Most of them have a hard time dealing with the new growth and have to wait six months for a retouch if it was so healthy and so not damaging. Why would you have to wait six whole months for a retouch? Why it's it's healthy right? It'S a healthier version of it right. It'S not the same right, uh, most uh gina recommends that those with gina curls have to wash their hair at least twice a week, because the hair is prone to matting. Because of this chemical solution, the porosity is increased of because of the chemical eating through the cuticle layer of the hair. Hence why you have to use jerry, curl juice and wash at least twice a week to keep the hair hydrated, because it's prone to dryness. That'S! Why all of the jerry curls and the curl activators - and things like that are laced with glycerin, because the hair has a huge propensity to be dry and matte? And tangled so y'all know where this is going. Your hair here is the command break, so the hydrogen bonds, like okay, break. Oh chill, all right. We only got what is that, like 20 [, __, ], okay, this is gon na, be like an hour and a half, it's cool, it's cool. Next, we have gorilla glue um this started about a year ago, um and it originated from miss tessica brown's tick-tock, clip of her fake crying about her hair being glued down to her head um. So this is debatable, and people still go back and forth with me about this. However, i still feel like the whole thing was a hoax. The whole thing was a hoax. The whole thing was a fake. The whole thing just seemed disingenuous from the start, like i i, like, i said it before in a watch party. I feel like she did it for like a tick tock video just for like laughs, giggles and kicks or whatever, and then when it blew up the way it did. She tried to like maximize and profit off of it by making the situation bigger than what it was going to the hospital and then later. I i feel, like the whole situation, because it took a whole week for her to get this glue out of her hair, which i feel like it really shouldn't have took that long and then the all of the foolishness surrounding it with the the uh. What was it the the donation page, the gofundme and all of that um? I just feel like it was no reason for it to carry on as long as it did and i still don't buy into the surgeon removing the glue and all of that and using the solution. Maybe he did perhaps he did. However, i don't think she really had gorilla glue sprayed up in her hair in the way she did. I just i don't believe it um. There has been a trend of a couple videos that i've seen actually i've seen about three videos. Now three different people spraying gorilla glue spray in their hair, um, two of which are december, read on youtube. She did a whole video debunking, the whole gorilla glue, girl fiasco and then i believe, um, a woman on tick tock by the name of avani reyes. Don'T know anything about that, but yeah this it actually was trending a while ago, and people was talking about it everywhere, um. I i feel like what she uses, maybe some some type of agent that hardens you know like morning glory or something like that. But i don't think she really had gorilla glue in her head and i think once she had to actually show up with gorilla glue in her head. I think it was then that she started to put all types of gunk and [ __ ] in her hair and make her hair look crazy. Because when you look at the pictures she start off with the side part. And then, when you see her working the glue out, all of a sudden, her hair is, is glued backwards. So it's all just really confusing to me and i i just i just think it's a hoax. So i'm just going to say: girl girl, shut the [ __ ] up, i'm not buying it, the hair, here's the command break the command. I mean take your pick like take your pick, all right, um. Next, we have hair porosity hair typing, so i don't really know. What'S worse, uh we started off with the andre walker hair typing system, where we tried to classify our curl patterns and try to dictate what products to use, what methods to use what we should do with our hair. Based on how tight or loose your curl was, which is just really all right, i'm pulling out of that one. But now, and now it's it's not seeming so forced or emphasized as much but more recently, hair porosity was like the new hair type like for the longest time everybody named mama swore up and down that after discovering their hair's porosity, they found a wealth of knowledge And understanding with their hair - and i can definitely see how some people would um, but i think the majority of y'all are just completely lost and clueless because most y'all don't even know the how the spectrum of porosity works, nor the implications that the different porosities have. I think that, in order to really understand porosity, you have to be familiar with more than just your own hair. I'Ve done a video talking about porosity and why i think it's a bowl of crap y'all want to base how much protein you're putting on your hair, based on your porosity and this net and y'all can't even classify your porosity correctly. So what makes you think that y'all should go, basing your whole hair care routine, based on something that you really don't have a good understanding of, but all right, i digress. I'Mma put that in um, please shut the [ __ ] up. I'M tired of hearing about this porosity like you, could you keep mentioning your frosting? How it affects you, but y'all y'all was literally making videos like watch me wet my hair. You do you see the water droplets. This is low porosity, no ma'am, it's called spraying water and waiting for your hair to absorb the water. At some point your hair can't absorb, but only so much water and then y'all don't want to wait and give it time to suck it in when you spray a uh um when you water a plant, is the soil not wet? Doesn'T it not take time for the damn plant to suck up the water like y'all, not making sense like please stop. I don't even mean to comment nobody's silence, i'm just i'm sick, like the misinformation and the lack of understanding is just like so overwhelming. At this point, i just really wish we could just pull back some just pull back. You know we gave you a little porosity. Nowhere in my cosmetology book have i ever read that, based on your porosity, you should use uh more protein or the hair. Is protein sensitive or this hair requires a heavier, or i have not read that anywhere and not saying enough. My cosmetology book is the end-all be-all because it definitely ain't that [ __ ] is full of a bunch of [ __ ] too, but i'm just saying like y'all chill. Please please chill all right. Next, we have hair steaming um. I don't think i have any notes for this one. Let me check. Oh, i do never mind so. Hair steaming got really popular, maybe about i want to say, like maybe like eight years ago, um there were salons that were really big on hair steaming, one in particular that i can think of that. I really feel like started. The whole craze of hair steaming was um two groovy solana in atlanta georgia. They were known for their hydration treatments and they were a salon that were known. Excuse me for their silk presses um, so the benefits of hair steaming that they claim is that they promise five times more moisture. Moist heat encourages blood circulation and lifts the cuticles to allow more absorption of deep conditioning treatments. Um here's the thing i don't necessarily det. Um, i don't not. What am i trying to say get your english is your first language. I don't disagree with that um. However, my issue with well, i do disagree with the five times more moisture. My issue with the hair steamers is that they have the potential of damaging and loosening your your hair's elasticity. I'Ve seen it happen with my hair. I'Ve seen it happen with some uh clients of mine that would um steam regularly, not any more often than i did. They would literally do it like once a month for like 20 minutes, and they told me they wouldn't use any heat, but i could literally see their curls loosen and slack and weak and just limp as hell just from steaming like i, like, i said before, plenty Of times, i've never encountered the issues that i've had using a hooded dryer to deep condition, or even just using my own body heat with a shower cap. But with the steamer. I feel like it's magnified times 10, and so when you're dealing with something like that and your hair is not only experiencing moistness but also a great degree of heat um, it has the potential to do more damage, so i'm gon na say your hair. Here is the command break, so the hydrogen bonds like okay break, i don't think hair steaming. Is the worst thing possible that you can do? However, i definitely don't think it's ideal or um. I don't think you needed to promote healthy hair. I think the risk involved with using a hair steamer is just too high um, especially if you're someone who steams on a regular now, here's the funny thing all the p. With all the hype of the hair steamers right, it was so much hype for hairstyles. Everyone started buying the beautiful hair steamer. It was like the first hair steamer that came out. That was for the the average consumer. People bought it and everyone started doing videos of the hair steamers and then for all of that, all the five times more moisture. My hair is so soft. My curls are so defined everyone just literally stopped using it. They was like, i just didn't, have time to put up my steamer and fill it up with, like you didn't have time to fill up your thing with water and just sit under there and let it steam like if the steaming was so great. Why would everybody just stop doing it? You have to ask yourself these questions. Why is everyone not doing it anymore? Their hair was thriving. Why stop um and also, i noticed a lot of people say when they use the hair steamer, they notice more curl definition and less frizz. It makes me wonder, though, if what's actually happening to their hair is not so much more elasticity with their curl pattern, but maybe more texturizing and loosening of their curls due to the heat, the moisty. I wonder i don't know, i'm just wondering all right, y'all see this woman holding herself upside down. Y'All know what this is. This is the inversion method. Let'S talk about the inversion method. How far ago, did this [ __ ] go there? Damn? I ain't got no notes for all right. The inversion method was popular, maybe about i would say about eight eight. Maybe nine years ago, um again, people were trying to encourage more hair growth by increasing blood circulation in the scalp area, and the claim that so many people have with this inversion method is that they would get an inch of growth or a half an inch of Growth in literally just one week, and so the craze started people started doing it holding themselves upside down um. I think the way to do it. You had to hold your hand upside down for like four minutes and let the blood rush to your head, and then you had to get up slowly, um to like equalize the blood flow throughout your body and not get light-headed and stuff um yeah. So a lot of people claimed and swore up and down that it worked, but for all the people that claimed it worked, it was so many people where they would show their results, and it was just really lackluster. I really honestly feel like i. I just feel like it's just one of those things like people just really want to believe in life, so much that they'll just believe it like they'll they'll, just believe it so we're gon na put this in the no i'm not allowing you to pump me full Of [ __ ] all right, not buying it all right. Next, we have heat training so for those y'all that aren't familiar with the term heat training. Heat training refers to people who apply or heat style, their natural hair quite frequently more frequently than the average person. As a means of making their hair more resistant to reverting when exposed to humidity and moisture in the air um, thereby making their silk presses and flat irons last longer, this is nothing more than heat damage. Okay - and i wish people would just get on and say that heat training is a cute way of saying heat damage. What you're doing is gradually trying to break down the disulfide bonds that are responsible for one third of your hairs, total elasticity and strength and through the use of excessive heat. You are breaking it down. One disulfide bond at a time, and literally just loosening and texturizing and relaxing your curls, thereby making it not have such a great effect of shrinking and drawing up and freezing out when exposed to moisture or humidity. So i'm going to say your hair here is the command break, so the hydrogen bonds, like okay, break all right. We have the trend of. I hate my natural hair, so many videos started popping up. I think was like a couple years ago, maybe like three or four years ago, everyone's, like i hate my natural hair, i hate my 4c hair. I don't like my hair that another that all these videos of women just complaining about their texture and all the things that they don't like and all the things they wish they had with their hair is giving self-hate it's giving a lack of self-acceptance. It'S giving a lack of self-love it's giving um just poor self-esteem and low worth um, and not to throw shade or anything, but it just goes to show you just how much work you have to do when you put that much energy into disliking abhoring and just Hating, a part of yourself that is natural. It really just speaks a lot to your your mental state. In my opinion - and i understand we have years and hun hundreds of years of just us as a people being broken down and our self-worth being battered every like. So much so we have a lot of work to do as a people. However, these videos, if i hate my natural hair, is not helping the problem. It'S not helping so since, if you need therapy, if you need somebody to help, you work through your hair issues. Do that [, __ ], but don't get on video and literally just list all the reasons why you hate your natural hair, because you you just ain't reached that point. Yet when you've learned to accept your hair for what it is and when it's not so i'm giving girl shut the [ __ ] up, we don't want to hear it. We don't care, get off of youtube. Then you don't you don't need to make hair videos if you hate your hair, that much [ __ ] all right um. Let'S see we have instant edges, it's not really much to say here. Um instant edges are a type of hair. I don't it's not. Hair extension, because it's not extending your hair, so it's a hair piece that you lay on top of um missing edges and thereby you have instant edges uh. How do i, where do i want to rank this? Where? Where should this go? Um? Okay? Why? The [ __ ], not i mean if you ain't, got edges and you can get your edges out of a pack and they help you out and helps you walk into the world and feel confident and beautiful. What can i say i'll? Allow it all right now we have the jerry curl juice, the jerry curl curl activator gel. So i feel like someone, a lot of y'all were saying: fey in the city started this train and uh. That doesn't surprise me one bit: not that's not fun shade or anything. I i'm actually not really so much against the jerry curl juice being used, because, honestly, i tend to use um curl activator gels more often than not for curl definition in washing goes, but the the act of it becoming a trend in everyone literally copying her video Is really what's so funny to me um, so we're gon na put this in i'm here for it i, like curl, activator gel now, here's the thing with curl activator gel. I think a lot of y'all are expecting a lot of um hold from the from the gel, and it's not really intended for that um. It'S really meant to keep your hair moist and moisturized um. So it's going to allow for touchable curls, but if you are going to want some hold from using this, i definitely suggest you cocktail it with some type of mousse or maybe even some type of curl cream. That tends to kind of balance it out, because it has a really like it's almost like a non-existent hole. It'S between non-existent to soft hold um. So you definitely want to add something mix it with something to help assist with longevity of your style. But if you just have naturally forming curls, where you don't have to shellack and rake and really manipulate your hair to get curls, then yeah jerry, curl juice is the is the the product for you, sis, like you, really need nothing else. All right. We have the loc method, loc stands for liquid or leave-in oil and cream. I believe that the lock method is a very good starting point for people who are trying to learn how to effectively moisturize their hair. I have just recently talked about how moisturized here and what it is and what it isn't, and i explained that what we consider moisturizing seal is really hydrating moisturize, but i'm not going to get into that in this video i'll, just say um as a moisturizing approach. I think it works um. However, a lot of y'all are trying to modify and do all these crazy things and like we got the loc, the lco, which honestly, i really feel like, there's no difference between the two um at the end of the day. All of this all the products just go mixed together and sit on top of the surface of the hair. So whether you put the cream on first or the oil, it really don't matter. Oil leaves a breathable film, so your hair is still able to absorb in water and moisture, but it just resists and helping to retain the release and evaporation of water from the hair. So it's all going to sit on top of the hair, whether you put the oil on first or you put it on a second. Some of y'all are doing lob liquid oil butter, okay, cool, whatever i've seen log i've seen look y'all doing too much y'all doing too much just leave it loc and then just going whatever your styler is, but y'all switching it up. Y'All confusing people you're confusing me.

Ashley P.: "Idk how long this is gonna be. This video should only take about 20 mins. Maybe 30." I'm looking at 1 hour and 36 minutes. Lmfao. 45 different trends. Ok. I'm ready. Lol

Tonia682: Went natural in 2010…definitely remember these trends. I’ve learned over the years the less you do…the better.

ChicaRho: Narada: "This video will last 20 mins, maybe 30." Me realizing the vid replay is 1:36:45:

D J: Honestly that Ecostyler debacle helped me realized it was the gel causing me pretty bad scalp irritation. I thought that was normal since I was applying so much product in my head or maybe my scalp was just sensitive to gel, but I use another gel mixed with mousse now and have had little to no irritation. Great video as always! Maybe this should be a new series for the channel.

KAM: Those tiers categories were very creative and ON POINT!

uberhaute_naturalz: The funny thing is that Ecostyler ingredients are in all these $100 gels they are promoting up and down.

Lynn J: No you didn't just make a rating chart of crazy hair growth trends! This was too cute and hilarious, Narada! The rice water, pee sh#t, and water only washing methods were the ones that were a no gos, for me!

KAM: The Mane Krush ayurvedic leave-in has done sorcery on my hair. It was my first time using ayurvedic. I am sold!

hfb: 20:26 Yea, it wasn’t the Chebe powder & if they watched the documentary of the women that were using it, they mixed the powder with GREASE and slathered it in their strands and left them in braids

katherine savarese: Narada this was EPIC! so fun and a great review of so much info!!

KAM: This was so funny and informative to watch. I wanted to comment many times. Unfortunately, I missed the live chat and I didn’t want to be tacky posting 20 comments. That m’excuse me b*tch sound effect took me out!

Aline the Bean: This video was so enjoyable to watch. Since watching your videos and live streams, I feel like you really opened up my eyes on the whole baby hairs trend and the negative messages that it promotes. I've also noticed how a lot of baby hair looks that I thought looked okay or even good at one point look absolutely ridiculous now. Curtains and drapes just everywhere, all over the place

nylorac1984: A walk down the dark side of the YouTube hair movement. I was dying . All the hopes, dreams and prayers for long, healthy hair and the lengths people went to after seeing or hearing about a woman with long hair and secrets.

CurlyNella1011: You see how the owner of hydrathermanaturals is pushing heat training How you start off a line pro embracing your natural hair texture and then you want to kill the elasticity.?! I told her that is heat damaging the hair and of course it was zero response. Now she is coming out with a heat protectant of all things

TheCarnivoreSoprano: Out of all these , pre poo is the only thing I've done and it's a good thing for me. Finally getting the dryness under control. :) This was a funny video

Erica M.: I was so busy with work today. I lurked the last 15 minutes. This video is entertaining and informative! 11:30 I'm weak @ AARP edges. lmfao

toonie time: I can’t lie, I tried the apple cider vinegar and bentonite clay mask. It worked like a charm! I do it once in a while but i cut the vinegar with distilled water though. It helped when I got protein overload from some conditioner I tried (knowing my hair hates protein). The other ones just had too many steps like that cherry lola treatment. Nope.

uberhaute_naturalz: I enjoyed the live stream. I was dozing in between but I enjoyed it. Narada, you are so much fun! I love all your views as regards all these shenanigans people put them through lol. Thanks for giving me great knowledge.

Diane Woods: You’re so funny! My gray hair loves coconut oil. I use it mostly in the warmer months though & definitely use it for cooking.

NatBadAsh: One of my fav natural shampoos that clarifies is any Dr Bronners washes.

kxlot79: This was cute! We definitely have fun experimenting with our hair!

Lili Jean: Very interesting and fun! Thank you for all your research

Jerrica j: I'm so sad I missed the live stream but I really enjoyed this

CurlyNella1011: That low porosity and high porosity thing does get on my nerves. Most have product buildup and calling it low porosity

Night Angel: I agree with the list. I've done a few of these and can do nothing but shake my head at myself. Now, I've learned that less is truly more.

Kai Porter: Great stream I remember most of the trends mentioned but there was one that got past me, the urine treatment. I really thought I heard wrong...but yup..urine...wow!

SpeakingofMeesh: 100 coats of self-acceptance!!! that made me laugh sooooooooo hard.

Autumn432hz: I went from purchasing tons of products, LOC'ing on a schedule, etc. to washing and using 2 products and I'm good now

Eagle 333: Loved this video! I didn't watch it live, was mad to miss it because the chat was so funny

HintofJay TV: Yes lol heat train = I am a willing participant of consistently damaging my hair because I don’t care for my hair

Rashida Shaw: “100 coats of self acceptance”

Nomakhaya: these tier list videos always confuse me somehow lol... at the beginning I thought the "I'm here for it" was saying we accept the trend but then when we got to Eco Styler (and the Coconut oil) you said you don't like it much but added it to the "I'm here for it"... I'm still watching though and enjoying hearing about some trends I didn't know about

Shonta' Sweetie: I missed the live cause my car was stuck in the snow… and THANK YOU for saying coconut oil stinks!!! I thought that was how it responded to my hair.. Now I don’t even like coconut smelling product

Valerie Murray: Hello again I just saw your streaming I was laughing so hard the pee in your hair omg you are so funny. This was a lot of fun. Take care god bless.

iateyursandwiches: "Water only washing" is even more dangerous if they use products though because now you have product build up you're not cleansing off. Even if they use ACV... its not a clarifier. Also imo, coconut oil is only good before washing as a hot oil treatment/prepoo. If you must use it as a sealant(which it isnt even that good as) should only be in summer.

Selena: Had to catch the replay I can’t wait to laugh

Jessica Virgo: I just turned my notifications on for you and only you. I'm SICK I missed this live. It was early, we had a snow day and I could've cut up in the comments .

vivojefe26: “100 coats of self acceptance”

Brooklyn Bass: Great video idea!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

friedchicken892: Hair steamer fucked up my porosity. I kept using it after using heat so my chemicals are SHOT

Cook_with_mE: you forgot the using rinse out conditioner as your leave in

Ileana h: I know this is about to be good I got my entertainment for tonight

C. Griffin: This video was hilarious and all facts

Dee E: Loves these glasses!

java watson: I love you Narada!!❤️

Baking Cutie: Fun video!!

Glam Fam8: Have my popcorn for the playback! I missed the live

Pricilla Cheeseboro: I missed the chat! I’m here and the video is great

BrookeKnits: I love this video lmao

shantbe: Damn it, I missed it!

Love Theory: I missed ur live while I was watching another one of ur old videos

Leshanna Bindah: Which gel is your favorite?
