Hi everyone and welcome back to faith and flour if you're new here my name is Robin and in today's video I'm going to give you a little update on how my gray hair transition is going. So it has been four months since I last dyed my hair and I have to say things are going pretty well part of that is due to it just being a great time to do this, because a lot of women are embracing this idea of ditching the Dye and just going natural, letting your hair grow out not having to worry about dyeing it each month to cover up the gray roots, or you know your natural hair color, and it just is so freeing to do this, and I just want to encourage you if You'Ve been thinking about it for a while or if you're already in the process and, of course, if you've already been through this process. I would love to hear from you in the comments it's so encouraging to other women to hear how you stuck it out and how happy you are with your beautiful natural gray hair. So today I want to give you an update on how my hair is going and also I'll have some pictures of my sister, because she's going through this process too, and her hair is darker than mine, a different style, a different look, and she also has a Little bit more gray going on so I know a lot of you are encouraged by seeing her pictures and I'll put those up for you guys to see, but also I wanted to give you some tips and some encouragement for going through this process, because I'm going Through it - and I have found encouragement from so many other women - and I just want to share what I've learned in my own experience with you, the first thing that I found when I made this decision and I'll back up just a little bit to tell you That I have been through this process once before. I let my hair grow completely out. I liked it. I was really happy with it and then kind of in a weak moment. I decided to read I my hair and it wasn't necessarily a sudden decision. I did contemplate it a little bit. I talked about it with my husband and then I planned to do it, but this go-round, I decided that I didn't want to have any dye in the house, because I used to order my dye online and I'd have it on hand, and I knew that if I kept some extra around and I had a weak moment. You know just a series of bad hair days which happens to all of us. I might make a decision that is very permanent and that I would regret because, let's face it, it takes a long time to get through this process and we don't want to make any rash decisions. So I would just encourage you to either use up the hair dye that you already have before you start this process, or you've already made a commitment to just go ahead and get rid of those things. One thing that will really help: you is a product like this and I used to order my color from a salon. So that's why I have this particular brand, but there are lots of over-the-counter brands that you can get and this particular one is called camo mist. It'S basically just hair color in spray form, and I know you guys have seen this product. I like this one because it matched the color that I was dyeing my hair. So it's a really good fit but, like I said, they're very easy to find online or at your local grocery store or drugstore. I just like having this on hand, because I know if I have a special occasion to go to or a special event that this will help me hide any areas that I'm not happy with and I have to say I've hardly ever used it because I'm pretty Happy with the way things are going and like I said this seems to be a pretty common thing happening right now, there's a lot of women that are doing this, and so people are pretty familiar with it. You don't have to feel embarrassed or ashamed that you're letting your grade grow out. In fact, when people ask me about it, they're pretty interested in it and not in any negative way. So that's one tip is to have something like this on hand and it will help you avoid making a permanent decision or semi-permanent decision to go ahead and dye your hair and make you start from square one again when you weren't really wanting to do that. And I know I've been there and I've done that. The next thing that really helps me in this process is keeping my hair healthy, and I have very fine hair and it's always been important for me to keep it conditioned, but not over conditioned because that can make it very heavy and flat. But my gray hair. That'S coming in is a very different texture. It'S coarser and it's a little more wiry and has a mind of its own, so I do need to keep that conditioned and it's been a little bit tricky, but I've tried some different products and I'll share those with you to help you. If you have a similar situation, but I think no matter what type of texture that you have in your hair, keeping your hair healthy as it grows out will make you feel better about your hair. So I have three basic tips for keeping your hair healthy and I think that's so important when you're growing it out, because if your hair is healthy, you're gon na be happier with this process. My first tip is to stretch out the time that you wash your hair. So when I was younger, I usually wash my hair everyday and then I stretched it to every other day and lately I've been trying to go three days before I wash my hair and I know that's a little bit difficult, especially in the heat of summer, but I have found that it's really helping me, keep my hair much healthier and there's a few things that you can do to make that a little bit easier now, first of all, is using some dry hairspray, and this is a really common one that you guys are Probably really familiar with it's super popular, it's the batiste and I like getting it in this original formula. It sprays on white and you just work it into your hair, a little bit like shampoo and then I usually just brush it, and you know, turn my head upside down and work it in really good. It gives you some extra body and some extra oomph and I have very fine hair. So I need that to give it more body and that's why I used to wash my hair more often. So this is what really helps the second thing that you can do to really keep your hair looking healthy is to avoid using heating tools as much as possible. So one thing that I try to do is to let my hair dry, naturally sometimes I'm in a rush in the morning and that's really not possible. But I do try to you know wash my hair first thing in the morning and then do a few other things put on. My makeup. Have breakfast do whatever needs to be done and save that to last so that the time I'm using the blow-dryer is reduced and because I like to curl my hair, I usually just curl it on that first day, so I'll curl, it and style it the way. I like it and then the next day I just kind of deal with the leftover curl. That'S there. I use the dry shampoo and then usually on that third day, I'll wear it up in a ponytail or in a bun to extend the time in between, and I found that these things are really helping me keep my hair healthy and the third thing I want To talk about is on those times when you really do need to use your heating tools when you need to blow-dry use a curling iron or a flat iron, make sure that you're using a really good heat protector. My hair texture may not be the same as yours, so you might have to play around with some different products, so this, I think, has been working great for the combination hair that I have it's by kenra and it's their blow-dry spray. It also does reduce the time that it takes the blow dryer hair, which is a bonus, but a little goes a very long way. I'Ve had this bottle for quite some time. It seems a little pricey but because it lasts. I think it's a really good bargain and I just give probably maybe four sprays on the ends you know of all my hair and then I work it in a little bit and then either blow dry or use my curling iron. I found that this is doing a great job of keeping my hair healthy and because my hair is healthy, I'm happier with it. It just looks better as it's growing out. One of the problems with growing out the dyed hair is that it's not getting that refreshment. That it gets every month when you are putting the dye on it, you're giving it a color refresh, but I also found that my hair oftentimes felt very healthy after I dyed it, and so I'm not getting that. You know constant sort of rejuvenation and so doing these things is really helping to combat. You know the dryness and the dullness there's a couple of products that I'm using to wash my hair that I feel like are really helping in that department, and I shared this with you guys in my previous video, I'm still using these two products and love them. It'S the Redken color extend gradient, and these are basically the purple shampoos that you keep hearing about. I think that they serve two purposes for me: they're keeping the gray, that's growing in very bright and white and silvery. Instead of you know, dull and yellow and they're. Also combating the brassiness because, as my hair grows out and I'm in the Sun more in the summer time, it is getting a lot more brassy and this really isn't even the color that I was dyeing it anymore. It'S gotten a lot more golden. A lot lighter, and so this is keeping that looking a little bit better and so therefore, I'm happier with it besides the purple shampoo. I feel that it's really important to use a clarifying, shampoo and I've heard a lot of other youtubers and people who are going through this process talked about this, and I really believe that it's true and I found one it's by a vino. It'S their apple, cider, vinegar, blend shampoo, it's their clarify and shine, and this shampoo is very gentle and it is mostly natural and I find that it's doing a really good job of helping me get rid of the build-up from the mousse from the dry shampoo and The heat protector, those things when they build up in your hair can cause it to be dull and for me, with a fine hair can really weigh my hair down. I think it also allows the purple shampoos to work better as well, so I recommend doing that. I'Ve been really happy using those products. Also, you know, of course, keeping your hair in good condition is super important and finding a good conditioner is really key. I heard about this one on another youtubers Channel. It'S called John, it's by John Frieda and it's their sheer blonde color renew tone correcting conditioner. It is a purple conditioner, but it's very very light. I find that the conditioner works super well in my hair. It doesn't weigh my hair down, but it is, you know great at getting the tangles out. It feels very soft afterwards. I think it also helps to combat that brassiness in between using the purple shampoo, because it's supposed to bright and blond hair. So I think that's working and I definitely recommend this. I hope that you guys found these tips helpful. I hope you find it encouraging to hear from someone who is going through this process right now, especially if you're contemplating taking those first steps or maybe you're in the middle of it yourself and I'd love to hear from you guys in the comments below like. I said, especially if you've already done this other women would love to hear your encouraging stories of how you went through it and how happy you are with your natural gray, hair. I know I'm so looking forward to not worrying about you know dyeing my hair and if the roots are showing and all of that I already feel so much better after just four months of not being on that schedule of having to dye my hair, it takes So much time it can be very expensive, especially if you're going to a salon and so having the money savings and the time savings has been huge for me. So if you found this video encouraging, please give me a thumbs up, and if you are new to my channel, I would love to have you be a subscriber and become a part of this community? I have a variety of different subjects that I cover on this channel and I'd love you to check those things out. So thank you guys so much for watching today and I'll see you in the next video

Nancy: Just starting the transition and watching tons of YouTube videos from beautiful women who've already done it or are doing it. This is what's helping me the most, I can tell you that. I'm excited to embrace the silver/gray. I'm also terrified. Thanks for the support and encouragement.

Patrice Parker: Good for you! I transitioned years ago and don't regret it. I felt like I was dragging around a ball and chain when I was locked into dying my hair. The gray roots were back in no time and I felt like I was fighting a losing battle. The freedom I feel is great!

Sensible Vintage: I'm going through the same process. I cut my hair into a pixie almost a year ago. Got used to that, and then started my transition to silver in May. I worked with my stylist and got tons of very blond highlights and then got them toned. The toner gets the yellow out. I've toned once a month since May, but I may not need to do that anymore. I'm guessing I will be fully transitioned by December. My method works best on short hair as the blond and toner is a bit drying, but it has made the process relatively pain free. However, if I ever decide to grow out the pixie, that is when the real pain will begin, lol!

Donna Campbell: Your hair looks so pretty, Robin. My 51 year old daughter got so tired of the hours she spent at the salon not to mention the money she spent and has letting her hair go gray. However, I’m not ready to let mine go. Our hair is kind of a dark blonde so I frost mine and hers looks frosted with the gray coming in. Thanks for all this information. I’m going to forward this to her.

Casey_andHerCats: I went grey this year and I'm loving it. I had colored my hair pretty close to what I saw at the roots so my transition was very easy. It also helps that my hair is fairly short so the grow out took 8 to 10 months.

Blake Grangaard: Thanks for all your great tips! I'm just getting started with the going grey journey.

Stitching Deb: I am so excited I found your channel! I told my oldest daughter a month ago that I was going to go grey! This is a great playlist :) I am a very loyal follower and I subscribed this morning! I am anxious to see your faith playlist also!

Diane Drummond: I’m 5 months dye free and it’s my 4th try. Thanks so much for your info.

Amandazplace: Thank you so much, Robin, for updating us. I have found transitioning to gray to be easier than I thought. So much of my fear was based on other peoples' potential reactions. But, every single person has said nothing at all. The worst reaction I got was from a family member who just kept staring, intently. But, he's been bald since age 28, so he didn't say a word. Afterwards, I just thought, well, that wasn't so bad. Mostly, this process has challenged me and grown me in so many good ways. It's good to press into our fears around aging and our definition of beauty. ❤❤

the Daily Connoisseur: I love your hair, Robin. It is transitioning to grey so beautifully! Love, Jennifer

Peg Botham: Thank you for ‘being out there’ with letting your hair colour grow. To be honest it looks in very good condition and has a lovely shine to it. My hair was red at birth(Dad was ginger) at 1yr it changed to blonde but as I got older it darkened. Unfortunately I don’t and never have had the darker skin complexion to pull off dark hair, I got tired of people telling me I looked really ill I dyed it golden red to compliment my thousands of freckles, loved it but the past 8yrs I’ve been blonde and it has suited me better. My daughter is a natural very light blonde with the beautiful large blue eyes. I decided a few weeks ago to stop dyeing my hair for the simple reason after my cancer treatment my hair changed texture and I lost quite a lot of it. Also whilst dying the last time I fell asleep and over processed it causing a lot of breakage, stupid thing to do. My natural hair has gone a little darker and as I’m 70 there’s some grey in it but I really don’t mind because I have a light grey wig and as long as I wear makeup it really suits my complexion. Also what we have to remember grey is the ‘in’ colour now so we are fashionable . Thank you for your tips they’re much appreciated, enjoy your weekend.

Susan Lynch: I stopped coloring my hair when I turned 50 - trying to keep up a natural look via dyeing was too expensive and time consuming for me. Freeing!! I'm now 68, and I get lots of complements on my "silver fox" hair. Lucky me - not a touch of brassiness. I also use a "purple shampoo", and alternate that with Neutrogena clarifying shampoo. I recently cut down on my shampooing to only twice a week. It finally dawned on me that the oiliness of my younger days is no more! I embrace my natural self as much as I can these days. I still have not given up make-up though - let's not get crazy, now. Lol

Anna Burns: I'm letting my color grow out also. I'm on month 3. I'm glad you suggested getting rid of the dye! I will do that.

Your Home is Your Business: I transitioned to gray hair about 10 years ago before it became a trend. My hair is short so the whole process only took about 6 months. It really wasn’t a pre-planned thing with me. I did it because at the time I transitioned, I was a small business owner, and during a particularly busy summer, I had not colored my hair for a couple of months. So out of curiosity, I decided not to color my hair until it had fully grown out. I had colored my hair for years as my hair began turning gray while I was still in high school. My father had completely silver colored hair by the time he reached his late 20’s, so I reckoned my hair was probably just as silver colored. I was right. My hair is curly, coarse, and dry, so I only wash it once a week, use a couple of conditioning products, and let it air dry. Apart from the lower expense, increased ease of care, and less exposure to chemicals that going gray includes, there are other, less-expected benefits as well. Gray hair seems to impart increased gravitas and an appearance of honesty that I didn’t expect. Anyone who has gray hair MUST be more wise and honest (LOL)!

casageorgia: My best friend and I decided to go natural at the same time. My thin, fine pixie hair grayed evenly, and I love it. My friend's hair had uneven patches of gray. To ease the process, her hairdresser recommended doing some highlights to blend in the rest of her hair with the patches of gray. Eventually, she was able to discontinue this process, and her hair looks great now.

Betty Ratliff: On January 2nd I turned 63 and I decided to stop having my hair colored! I had been thinking about it for quite sometime. I’m just tired of having to go back to the Solon every 4 weeks for a retouch and not to mention the expense. I’m nervous about the process and time it takes but I’m also ready to embrace the gray that God has blessed me to have. Your hair looks great and I love Your videos they are so inspiring, encouraging and informative

Thea Stewart: Hi Robin! I’m so glad I found your channel! I have just started the transition! I am so excited! We have a big family wedding next month and I was going to wait until it was over but then decided to forge ahead! I’m not the bride after all, lol. It’s her day to shine. Not that I could outshine her anyway! She’s 24, I’m 62. I wish I had done this years ago. I have been coloring my hair since I was 21. I started going grey at 14 but there was no need for color until 21. But I have had to dye my hair every 3 weeks for over 30 years AND it looks lousy before 2 weeks are up!! I am so ready. For the first time I didn’t get my roots colored. I had a full foil because I had my hairdresser color over my highlights 3 weeks before because I was sick of the highlights lasting 3 weeks because the root color would cover it. So now I have the full foil and glistening white roots! As a professional it will be rough but as the winter is coming soon I will wear hats. I crochet and knit so I’m going to make a bunch. And I am also going to use the spray you spoke about too. I have always had my hairdresser do it due to allergic reaction to dyes, another great reason to stop. She is very supportive and is helping me on this journey. Thanks for your wonderful video! As a woman of faith your channel name and the subject caught my eye! I look forward to watching your videos and apologize if I’ve rambled on too much! God Bless!

Janet Spence: Robin, my hair dresser told me to use about a teaspoon of baking soda mixed in with my shampoo to clean hairspray, mouse, etc. out of hair about every six weeks or so. Your hair and your sister’s hair are looking great!

Forbidden Chocolate: You look lovely and your hair has a beautiful sheen! I admire your courage in undertaking this journey, I wish I was ready. My natural color is very dark brown, almost as dark as your sister's, and I look like a deranged skunk when my roots come in! I just did my roots, AGAIN, two days ago. I've never been one to enjoy the girlie stuff. I almost never wear makeup and don't paint my nails, so hair coloring is a constant source of irritation. But for some reason I feel like I won't be ready until my youngest child graduates from high school. I had her much later in life than my first two who are eleven and twelve years older. Maybe because I was so much younger when they were in school, I don't want my memories of her school years to include me with grey hair. Funny thing is, if I asked her I know she wouldn't care! At least when I manage to overcome my...temporary insanity, my bff is not only my home care aide but also a hairdresser. She's been doing my hair for almost thirty years and I know she has some tricks of the trade that will help me get through the transition when the time comes. I look forward to seeing the next update on your journey!

Connie N: Thank you so much! I started 5 months ago & this is very informative.

Nuno&Ella: This has been so helpful! I am just starting to get greys and I had not yet heard of this purple shampoo- good to know! Your hair looks so great and I think all of your tips are spot on! Thank you!

Leslie Clark: I did it three years ago and haven’t looked back since then. That’s not to say I didn’t doubt myself at Times bc I did. But I know in my heart it was the right thing for me to do!! Good luck!!!

Natalie Reid: I also went through the process of growing out my hair and re- coloring. It looked pretty but I wasn’t ready to be gray. This time I cut my hair into a pixie as I don’t have the patience to slowly grow it out again.

Sandra B.: I think a really good haircut is key. It adds life and style to your hair and look.

Janet Stalb: I love my gray....been growing it out four the pass 4 months. Love it love it love it.

Miss kj 777: New Sub...wonderful to find the channel of a woman of faith! Enjoyed this video on transitioning to gray. I am a little over one month in and determined to make it across the finish line, unless the Rapture happens before then!✝️

Shannon Torrens: Your hair is looking great! It looks good on you

Clean With Scandish Home: Thank you for sharing your process Robin it's very encouraging! My hair is my biggest struggle I don't color my hair too often but I like the texture it makes if I would have a lot's of hair I wouldn't color it ether. You have an amazing hair I wish I could have a hair like yours! Also I love the very white gray hair look it's kind of like a platinum blonde. Not to mention the cost of coloring hair! You rock the gray hair Robing you look beautiful! Thank you for sharing! xoxox

Cheryl Henninger: I did mine too soon and not for the best of reasons. My mom passed away in August 2017 from Alzheimer's and in August 2018 I decided to stop coloring my hair. I was 48. I stuck it out for a year (my hair was totally gray) and I started experiencing a double standard. Without going into long, boring details, I was made to feel older than I really am and recently began coloring my hair again. Emotionally, I wasn't as ready for it as I thought.

Melissa B.: I went grey two years ago. I had my hair cut very short as I also had a scalp issue going on (psoriasis). I still had a few very dark strays on the end so I had lady at my shop strip out my color. I have to use a special shampoo about once a week that I mix in with my regular shampoo choice. I sometimes rinse with vinegar and this helps get out product buildup. My hair is now much longer to my shoulders. Also, I found a great temporary color mousse that I apply about every 2-3 weeks. This takes out the yellow tones. You will be fine and it will look great! Another thing I found out is that my makeup color(s) changed a bit and so did my clothing. I have tried to add more color to my tops/sweaters so that my complexion with my grey hair color looks much better with some color! Good Luck! I believe I will try that Aveeno, too!

Michele: New subbie here. You are a delight! Looking forward to the hair updates.

Grace Lagomarsino: Your hair looks healthy and Beautiful !!! Thanks for your Tips I  just subscribed to your channel I have been in this process for about 16 months Yes there are days that I want to go back ....

vintage g: Oct 3rd will be one year for me. I don't use any products designed for gray hair. It's looking pretty good, no yellowing. It's salt and pepper. I am okay with it truly. Everyone seems to really like it, including my hubby. How long did it take you to grow your hair out to your shoulders? My hair is growing really slow about 4 or 5 inches.

Lseverett5: Hang in there. 2 yrs ago I started my journey to gray. I couldn't be happier. It looks like I have highlights and I realized I loved my natural color so much. Been coloring my hair since early twenties..59 now...wish I had taken this step ages ago.

How Beth Does it: I started my transition a year ago. I cut mine short hoping to speed up the process.

Janine K: Hi Robin - Janine here! I'm thinking of letting mine go gray! I hope you are doing well! We really miss you. I have to keep watching!!!! I've been using eSalon for years!!! I had thought about trying that spray color to cover up while I make the transition and especially if I have a work meeting or something.

DeAnna B: Really good tips, thank you

Pamela Magre: At last someone doing this with fine hair like me. I feel les alone. Thankyou

V!K!NG_DRAG0N: I started to darkening my roots little by little but my grays never get colored. So eventually I'll turn into very dark brown (almost black) but the color I have now is a dark redish/brown. I bet it will take few years. My gray look like highlights all around my head. I noticed recently in a bathroom that have a very unusual light. I almost die when I see so many! But honestly Im getting tired of dyeing it and my scalp hurts sometimes afterwards. I have very thin hair and the breakage is real! I have no money to go to the salon to advance the process so, patience and way less heat.

Choo Lee Ng: My family has grey hair at every young age, me too. Haha more than 80% are grey. So every a few months I will go to hair saloon to get my hair colour. Not easy to get the right shade of colour too. I am a Chinese and have dark colour hair.

Winter Queen: Hi great video in my church they say that the Lord set us free and that dying the hair is bondage and i believe that somewhat my hair is gray and black and im not happy but dying my hair every month and times between would be to much work for me, but when i hear you talk i kinda feel better until i look in the mirror that is, which i won't lol! i want to keep this good feeling for a while thanks for the motivation you are a God sent, by the way you look beautiful sister may God keep blessing you in every way amen

Choo Lee Ng: I do noticed strangers stared at me. Quite a few inches are grey. Growing out from hair roots. But I just ignore them. First of all, I have prepared tell my myself when should stop or just leave it.

Maeve O'brian: The darker one's hair is, the harder it is for one to "bite the bullet".

JR Pacer: Looking back I don’t know how I did it (coloring) the time for it all going grey really give so much

Jan Barber: I have been transitioning for a year and a half. All my dyed hair is gone...Yay! It has been a roller coaster ride, but I am happy that I bit the bullet. My hair is thicker and healthier. People have asked me if I have highlights in my hair. When I tell them that it’s all natural, they can’t believe it. I can tell that it’s getting more lighter around my hairline. and I am excited to see how it progresses. The key for me was to trim my hair more often. I kept it at shoulder length, but had it trimmed every six weeks. I will never look back. I am 57, but kicking 58’s door and I feel a sense of confidence in accepting and embracing the change. Hang in there everyone. You will love the end result! ❤️

JesusWaytoHeaven17: Your red dye is beautiful. What is the color and brand?

Lynda Crossman: I did it...one day I saw a dead rat coloring on my head. I went and cut it off... love it so far...

Ruth Goddard: I tryed the baking soda to wash my hair every couple of shampoos.so much healthier.have been thing of going gray but I do have dark hair and it looks so bad when you start.not sure i can stand the half gray half dark.

Racheal Rumbo: My FREEDOM day was May 20,20. I’m so excited

momof2: To each their own, but I will never let my gray show. I love my blonde pixie cut and will always have it. It takes me 30 minutes from start to finish to keep it fresh every 6 weeks. Some women look good with it, but on most women its so aging, drab, and just very unattractive. Watch some videos about women who have made the change from drab, aging gray to a fresh new look, and see how it changes lives.

N V Clarke: U don’t have much grey yet
