wwwhaaatt have iiii donnneeeeeee. I'll answer that: Basically put my hair through WAY too many rinse cycles and for WHAAAT, hahaha.

Ah well, not every video is gonna be groundbreaking right? Hopefully you enjoy just hanging out and watching me fail time and time again.

I LOVE YOU ALLLLL.

I am looking ... shlubby .... I haven't washed my hair in like five or six days. It'S been in this braid since Saturday. It is now Wednesday., (, chuckles ). If I had my own perfume line, it would be called Essence of Shlub. Let me tell you: I had every intention of making something this week I got all my materials and then both my cramps and the humidity really said: ( laughs, maniacally, ) ``, You thought''. I was gon na push that to next week. So, yes, we will be making something fun next week, But it is September this week which kind of crept up on me. I think it would be fun to try to go back to red hair. It'S inching closer to crunchy spicy leaf time, and I wan na have hair that matches. I want to be what I am inside, which is a big pumpkin. This is gon na, be a multi-step process, and so I figured we would take the next couple days to try to go back to it and chat about things that have been happening. Lately. I feel like I'm pretty far behind on updating all of you.. Just have some nice cozy fun. I hate having to state that I'm not a hair professional ,'cause. I think it's quite obvious that I'm not Hair, stylists and hair colorists.. SHIELD YOUR EYES !'Cause. This is gon na, be a wild ride.. I give you the permission to yell at me in the comments, if I'm doing something stupid, because this process is ( beep ) around and find out, I purchased a color remover or like lifter dye lifter on the internet and it finally came in ( ding ). It is here. (, old-time, jazz ) I mean, should I be going to a salon for this Maaaaaybe, but I'm not gon na, so we're gon na give this a shot. So obviously this is step. One is lifting as much of this brown as I can out of my hair, And then we will go in later and do some henna, which we're gon na do test strips. So don't worry, And the henna that I use does not contain any metallic salts. So it should be fine mixing with hair dye done it 5 trillion times. So don't worry So yeah we're gon na do a test strip of this color lifter and see if it works, And I am stubbornly drinking hot coffee ,'cause. I refuse to believe that it's 87 degrees out right now and I just want.. to be COZY. Oh my that's a lot of bottles Number one I like when they have numbers on them. Oh I'm scared. This reminds me of when I went brunette in high school and immediately regretted it. Oh (, gags ), Whew ooh, That was another at-home dye job and I went from bleach blonde to dark brown. Needless to say, it was not the most even of jobs, And from what I heard the back of my head looked like a calico cat. I used about seven applications of color oops, which is still around apparently, But I'm assuming back in 2006 or 7. When I used, it probably was not up to speck, But my hair didn't fall out, so I think we'll be okay, this time, Oh, it smells bad Smells ..., BAD All right! Well, now that I look like a Final Fantasy character: ... (, final fantasy, music ). All right see you in 20 minutes ( old-time, jazz, ) Best I've ever looked Wash these strands out. I don't really think it did much ( old-time jazz ). That did nothing. I mean my hair didn't fall out and I can see it's a tiny bit lighter. So we're just gon na go for the full experience here and do my whole head Honestly. I'D even be fine at the end of this that it's just a really warm chocolatey brown versus this dark color'Cause. Then you can just take steps to go back to red. I guess we'll find out This feels like I'm mixing resin or something, Oh God. What am I putting in my hair, ( chuckles )? Don'T have a hair dye brush ( ding ) May I introduce a compact version, May also be used for crafts and things No.. We goin' hands who needs a brush, Not me.. You know. Life is just so much more interesting when you don't really know what you're doing Little bit of risk factor in everything that you do is how I live. I don't think This is easy enough and I don't absolutely murder my hair. I would love to just switch back and forth every now and then obviously giving my hair enough time to like reset and relax. My problem is that I tend to like really completely opposite things. Almost can't really compare having my red hair versus the dark and which I like better, because I think they're both ... did, I say `` I fink ?'' ( speaking in a bad british accent ). I fink the differences are too big: ( normal voice, ) They give off such different vibes that it's hard for me to compare, which one I like more I'll, probably keep the red for a decent amount of time, and then I won't change it again until maybe I have a mental breakdown, you know and I need to be in control of something. That'S generally how it goes. You know I have a feeling that I'm not gon na go completely red with this. That seems too easy. My guesstimate is that the end of this will be a little bit, maybe like Evie hair, where it's like a lighter brown, I mean without bleaching or anything I had a feeling. It was gon na be a little tricky to go back to like a bright red. ( loud clatter, ) Whoa, So slippery, Oh, my GOD, You know I had planned to talk about life stuff, but maybe we'll do that, while I'm doing henna ,'cause. This is taking up all of my brain cells. Currently Now it says to use a plastic processing cap. I don't know what that is, Wrap my head in plastic wrap and then we wait 20 minutes and wash it out All right. Team ... Break It's time to wash this all out, which is good because oo-wee, I look and smell like something: that's lived in your refrigerator drawers for six months, But it looks like it worked, My God, my roots are gon na, be so blonde. Okay. This is an adventure All right. Let'S give it a go. You ready, Wow., (, laughs, ). Oh my God.. I don't even know what I look like right: now., Maybe like Hermione ,'', It's Leviosaaaa !''. You can tell how much my hair has grown since I stopped using henna From here up. It really took the color lifter easily and it's really light up here And then obviously it's still a tiny bit wet, but obviously down here, it's a little bit darker. I could theoretically it says in the instructions I could do the color lifter as much as three times. This is a fine shade for henna.. It is like a tiny bit dark, but I think that henna will lighten it up And if not, I am totally okay with having a brighter red seep down into maybe a deeper darker red That worked better than I thought it would, which is pretty sweet.. Now that I'm done with that, I am going to run to this store. To get a few more things, I need to do. Henna. I like to mix mine with a little bit of yogurt in some lemon juice. I am just making my house a plethora of pungent scents, today., That's weird.. Let'S do that! ( groans ), It's so (, beep, ), hot (, coughs, ), Whyyyyy, Hello and welcome to''. Let'S Make That Sludge !'' Wooden bowl, the dried out sludge pour it in the bowl. This is going to smell like a bunch of crushed-up caterpillars. So if it's stinky, you know it's good. Evan Corey: Shoutout to Rachel for looking great with every single color she went through in this video

DavidsenRecords: I’m a professional and have a few tips for the future: 1. The hair wasn’t saturated enough with the remover, you needed AT LEAST the double amount if not more. Probably still a second application, but only for the darkest places still left in the hair. With henna especially, you want and even starting point as possible. 2. Going from the first point, Henna doesn’t lift. It will only stay the same level of light or go darker. So it’s a good idea to be one level lighter before Color (when talking henna), so you don’t risk getting too dark. 3. Newly lifted hair sucks pigment more easily, and will appear darker. Keep going with application of pigments, and you end up dark again. Which is what happened here. If you want to go to another hair adventure yourself, without a professional, I highly suggest: Give your hair at least a month of rest with lots of treatments. Do another round of colour remover and a second might be necessary. If a third is needed, I would give it a few days rest and treatments. The goal is to get it as even as possible, so only apply the second or third round the needed places. I would recommend a semi permanent dye or a toner, just for the sake of health for your hair. If henna is still desired, you just need to be slightly lighter than the desired result. I would just give a few days between the colour remover and henna with lots of treatments, so the hair sucks the pigments more evenly. No matter how you desire to colour, just remember you need and even result as possible with the colour remover. It’s the foundation for the next step, and the most important part. Wish you good luck!

B. Calvin Saul: Rachel uses the "color lifter" and her hair comes out red. Me: That looks like a great shade of red! Very natural and nice. Well done! Rachel: Now I'm going to get a bunch of henna, add some cooking ingredients, and put that in my hair, now! Me: What? No! Wait!

Markéta Wiležinská: It definitely looks perfectly autumn-ly to me. The red shinning in the passing light makes it look like a neat magic trick. Changing the colours as autumn leaves, from dark to shiny red. It might not be what you were aiming for, but on camera, it looks great and suits you :) And I think "fail" video is better then hundreds of people discussing it in the comments of your next video.

A Lundquist: This felt like a facetime with a friend. We are not here for the perfect video, we are here to support you and watch any content you feel like posting :)

Lady of the Library: I actually adored your colour after the colour lifter. As someone with dark hair, I would say your hair now is definitely red rather than brown, just a very dark red. I think washes and sun will lift it naturally over the next few weeks — it looks beautiful all the same. But yeah, dark hair is basically a life commitment unless you’re willing to use bleach. My hairdresser kept asking me over and over before I went dark if I was sure

dontpetmeimworking: I call the "i can't just NOT do things" thought process "border collie brain"-- where you have to have a task to do or you'll eat holes in the walls.

Helene G: Honestly seeing people being real and authentic is never a waste of time! It's just relaxing and comforting!

Dani Akehurst: Omg! I love all the colours on you. The light brown actually looked really good. ❤

Klaudia Szyszkowicz: Colour removers have to be used >exactly< as the instruction on the box says, the hair must be fully saturated, and they also have to be rinsed out >forever< (like 10 mins + literally) afterwards with warm water. The way it works is that, depending on the remover, it either temporarily "shrinks" or "pushes out" artificial pigments from the hair. If the pigment is then not washed out of the hair properly it is going to oxidize and become dark (or spotty like in your case) again. The instructions usually fail to mention that, sadly. Usually you'd see the hair turning lighter all over before washing though, so I'd guess that either the 20 mins wasn't enough or the colour remover is just not the best. On a more cheerful note, it it goes wrong again you can always do an orange buzz and become a true pumpkin girl :) Also your current reddish brown also looks very autumny and pretty!

Mrs. Robinson: Why are you apologizing!? You could literally make a video of a pot of water boiling and we'd all still watch it because you're so entertaining. You're a delight and we are all here for it

Parrot Jungle colada: Hair stylists have totally destroyed my hair, I’m never going back

Honey Moon: You should try Igora professional hair color in 8.77 with 30vol. I think you’d like the results. Still you are so pretty with whatever hair and I really love your videos. Been binging them for a week.

SirtenlySirprized: Those of us that have attempted substantial color changes at home understand all of this completely.

Francisco Mena: Rachel: “hey guys sorry this isn’t a making of video” Me: lady, I’d watch you peel an apple and talk about your day, YOU’RE GOOD.

lifeofLaerke: "My mom is a hairdryer" made me snort laugh so violently tea almost came out of my nose

whossoul: As a professional screwing-up-my-hair-at-homer I've learned the hard way sometimes you're better off just bleaching. I would do the same thing and use tons of different stuff trying to get around bleaching and end up damaging my hair more than if I just bleached it from day 1. If you use a light developer, like 20, it's hard to damage your hair as long as you follow instructions and will save you a lot of time and heartache!

Katie Anderson: Whispers in hairstylist: “color doesn’t lift color” honestly you did a pretty damn good job and were on the right track at first! The problem you really had was you didn’t lift out all the old box color so you were just adding pigment on top of pigment, hence the darkening color. (Which you figured out pretty quick I think ) Color remover is a form of lightener, just less strong, so it can lift out the box but not the henna. You should give it another go later! Just remember that unless you can get all the color out, the henna will just look dark. Good luck!!!

Nyszka85: Hey Rachel, guess what you did there? A secret red hair, to go perfectly with your secret pants in all autumnal outfits take care and give your hair some love after this 'very' entertaining endeavour from already cold Poland

Julianne Rose: Okay one: the moment you finished the color lifter I literally screamed "stop there! Don't touch it!" Two: the end color looks GORGEOUS on you. It's much warmer than before and looks like all the autumn witchy goodness

LittleAntiqueMe: Hairstylist here: I am only 2.5 minutes in and I am SO proud of you Rachel for taking a small swatch test and doing your research! Ok….back to watch the rest hehe

Annie Jones: YES! I’D BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO! As a hairstylist, kudos to that first lift. I was impressed! Wish I sent you a professional bowl, brush, and Tangle Teezer with Joico color eraser to go with your color lifter! If you do go after those dark bands, I’ve used joico eraser on wet hair with great success—-but haven’t tried it on henna.... Thanks for sharing your process! It made my day, even though I was yelling “noooo!!!! Don’t do it!” Between my finger tips.

Sibhwibhy2: Also Rachel I know you have tons and tons of advice but if I can just add my own as a lifelong redhead who has switched between ginger/copper and brown I have tried every hair colour remover and or bleach combo. If you’re happy to take it slow I would recommend crushed up vitamin c or those emergen-c packs mixed into a clarifying shampoo for about an hour (wrapped in clingfilm) followed by Aussie 3 minute deep conditioner. This has removed even henna from my hair but it does take one or two attempts. But it will keep your hairs integrity intact. If you want immediate lightening and brightening I would try a bleach bath which is literally just bleach powder and developer mixed with shampoo and left on your hair for up to 30 mins (with constant checking) and then rinsed followed by another deep conditioner. My final piece of advise would be I know you like Henna and it is gorgeous on you but I think to get back to your previous colour you should check out Igora Royal hair dye in shade 7-77 or 8-77, I think it’s the exact colour you’re going for. Your videos are always such a joy and I hope you continue to bring us on your circular hair journeys

Finn: must say: totally been there. this actually made me nostalgic about some of the more impressive hair disasters I've had through the years. but hey! you live and you learn, and eventually you laugh about it later.

Vivian Ramsay: Rachel, as a retired hairdresser I would like to caution you about the use of multiple products back to back...you can easily burn your scalp , blisters even, cause major breakage and lose hair . So please go gently, gently ! Wait a week at least before adding more chemicals and use hair moisturizer to sooth your scalp and hair. The lifter has weakened the color bond so if you just wait a few weeks you will see that the color will lighten over time . Continue to use hair conditioner and take pictures of your mistep to remind yourself that you "tried it ,didn't like it"! Push comes to shove a simple hair cut will repair some bits AND hair grows every day. Its what keeps hairdressers employed !

The Glamour Ghoul: I always appreciate fun and honest videos like this! You attempted a DIY project on your hair and it didn't turn out exactly as you envisioned. But I'm glad that you still took us along for the ride. And you look lovely in every hair colour, so that's a win at least! <3

Samantha: I had box dye in my hair, and I managed to successfully leach it out/lift multiple levels by doing a bleach bath using Ion's ammonia free bright white powder lightener and Ion's sensitive scalp 20 volume developer. It worked for me, BUT I do not know how it might react to the henna. If the henna does not react to it negatively, that might work for you. I got everything at Sally's.

lifeafficionado: I just continue to be in awe of how much of a chameleon Rachel is... did anyone else notice how much the different colors of hair affected her face shape & vibe? And her hair straight vs curly??? This woman could become anyone.

RedLeaf 13: Nah, this video was actually very entertaining Rachel. Even when you fail you succeed x). And as a real life librarian I also approve of the new hair colour

Elisabeth N: As a hair stylist, I just want to throw out there that it isn't always feasible to go get what you want done in a salon. It's expensive as heck, and while we do a lot of school and continuing ed, it's still totally possible to get what you want at home with some research on products and a baseline of common sense. The only thing I would highly suggest to anyone is to try to have someone around to help make sure things are evenly saturated, but even that can be done solo. I am always more than happy to help out my clients with advice for home stuff, from styling to cutting bangs to color, because the stigma of diy hair needs to stop. Most of my own terrible color jobs and cuts came from professionals.

Hawk Leigh: I'm so sorry your hair didn't turn out the way you wanted it to! I see you've gotten looooooots of suggestions/critiques in the comments, but I just wanted to say that you and your videos are always such a joy to watch, and I really appreciate you posting this video for us even though it was more vulnerable <3 As vulnerable as it was, it was relatable, trust me! I really hope you get a chance to catch up with the ever-spinning world and that you can feel more rested and less rushed soon! <3 ☺

Jeannine F: Glad to see the struggles many others go through!! Hang in there Rachel! You’ll get the colour you want....eventually! Looks good though!

Lauren Pearson: GIRL I been in the same situation. I use to dye my hair with Henna to turn it mermaid red. Aaand I dyed it with the black/brunette variety as well later to try something different. When I decided to lighten my hair again to go back to mermaid red ...Found out the hard way it doesn't lift. My hair dresser tried her best bless her kind patient soul. The parts that did lift turned GREEN. Not a pretty green either (dark muddy brown green), possibly due to the many layers of henna product I put on my head over the years of touching up my own roots. It was fun but yeah personally lesson learned: if you want to commit to one hair color forever and never bleach/lift/lighten then use Henna. Couldn't find this helpful information in all the time I researched it online forums except that it was just good for hair. Don't get me wrong It can be, buttt its so permanent. Had to grow out my hair, so had to live with blonde roots with bottom half of hair black ends that were muddy green in hue lol eventually trimmed that off. I feel your pain :0

HauntedCorgi: Someone get Brad Mondo in here! LOL It looks really pretty, but I know that's not what you're going for. You CAN do red, but it's not going to be without its consequences. Going from brown to red is not easy. Love you Rachel! Great video!

Marijean Rue: Listen. I tried to radicallly change my hair early this summer, accidentally turned it BLUE, and just spent $500 getting it fixed. You came out of this with gorgeous flowing locks that honestly look dark auburn, and we can all relate. You don't have to produce masterpieces for us to love your content. We also just love your process, your perspective, and you.

Sarah Anne Kerley: It looks so refreshed and beautiful! Much more rich, red tones than your last color. I love it!

Rachael Blackburn: I've used a colour lifter in my hair dying past, and somehow the look on your face when you opened the bottle brought the smell straight back to me if it is any consolation at all, your hair really does look pretty throughout! I think it's a mandatory part of dying your own hair to have at least one experience of it absolutely not going to plan

Omni Chrome: I tried to go from black to blond one time (I had started out with red, then went to black first). I had a buzz cut at the time (still have a version of it). My whole head - kalico cat!

Fiber Obscura: Oh my goodness! How did I not notice how long your hair was!? I love that you are willing to bring us along on this journey of hair craziness with you.

Yuno Rotten: I have some tips (I have been to haircoloring/stylist school for a while) -Smaller sections of hair during the coloring/color removing process helps make the results more even toned, use a rattail comp to make the sections and separete them when u go -Use more 2 or 3 box of the hair color remover at a time if you have long hair to coat the whole hair evenly and throughly -Use the color remover on a clean hair -After first color remover is washed and hair dried, you can do the process again and focus the color remover on the ends wher it is darker and leave the roots either for last or completely color remover free, this so the result gets more even, you can do this same process third time on a dry clean hair and focusing on the darkest parts of the hair - After that I would deep condition or use a condition based semi permanent hair dye to get the color you want (like manic panic, arctic fox etc which don´t include developers) these kinds of hair dyes just coats the hair with color and don´t get in the hair follicles so they are safe to use after harsh treatments - Yes the box hair dye as a mistake, and it is because color doesn´t lighten the hair even with a developer, if you want a lighter color u need to remove color, not add to it, this is a common mistake - Mix turmeric powder to your henna mix to get a more orange and lighter result also the lemon is not needed and will dry your hair out -Also last pro tip if you want swicth between ginger and dark brown hair color, I would recommend using conditioner based semi permanent dye (without developer like manic panic, stargazer, arctic foxetc) to get the darker color, again it just coats the hair and doens´t get into the hair follicles so it will easier to remove and get pack to the ginger with color remover Also the video was entertaining and I will watch any and all videos you make, I am here for the vibes lol Hope this helps

Елизавета Аверьянова: It actually looks pretty good in the end! I love this dark red color, definitely gives autumn vibes, so don’t worry ❤️

Ella Pelekai: Girl I know how you feel. I couldn't afford to see my regular hair dresser so I asked her what to get, I followed all the directions to an absolute T. And instead of my normal bright ginger I got dark burgundy hair and cried about it because my hair was burgundy when I went through lot of trauma and cant stand to see my past self regularly in the mirror. My roommate came home to find me having a whole Howl hair dye melt down. I haven't attempted to remedy the situation since after 2 years of dying my hair is kinda fried and I don't want to lose my length. Sadness all around for non Pumpkin spice hair

Amber Brookes: I feel you! Once I sent my hair green and I just couldn’t stop piling on hair lifters/colours to try and fix my hair and my soul Xxx Just on a side note what lipstick are you wearing at the end? Love it

house on jupiter: highly recommend going to the salon for this. i once tried going from very dark hair to red hair and i ended up bald. i didnt mind much cause my hair was short to begin with, but yeah, be careful with your hair if you wanna keep it

bookdragon75: Nothing says “it’s the weekend now” like a new Rachel Maksy video!

s w: her hair looked so pretty after the henna though!! it definitely looked redder to me. but every shade looked so good

Panda MainiaK: You still look gorgeous either way, I love that you're still willing to show the difficulties and mistakes you make, which is very realistic and just makes me love you even more Rachel. Keep Rachelling!!!

Lucas Official: Well as a hairdresser I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. When the sunlight hits it you can really see that lovely copper tone

MacKenzie McDonald: So glad you went ahead and posted! I had to start doing my own hair and I’m red- it’s a constant experimentation. I’m going to play with color oops tomorrow it doesn’t always turn out- that’s okay

Kyra Lemieux: Oh, boy, I did this journey. As a natural redhead, I tried dark hair for a while, and going back to my natural colour... that was ROUGH. I tried colour lifters like this about four times to little avail and finally just ended up bleaching it and then dying it as close to my natural colour as possible so it would match as the roots grew out. Harrowing process.

E M: I loved this video, we have so much in common and it makes me feel validated. I am sorry it didn't turn out how you wanted, but tbh I am happy for everything you did, because it is EXACTLY what I would have done. Actually I am sure this is something I have done already. You are not alone!

A Modern Centurion: I actually think the final color is a perfect autumn color! A warm brown with red hints in the sunshine is just wonderful on you!

Lavinia Snow: Rachel sweetie, your hair looks gorgeous! It's brown with beautiful red undertones which makes itfor autumn. My hair is naturally dark brown and the colour you're wearing now is what I wish to get. Maybe if I apply henna on it I might succeed.

Windy Schultz: I’ve used the Ion color remover from Sally’s with good success. FYI henna is harder to get out than regular dye

Angela Toth: I feel like we have to let you know; It's okay to fail. We watch you for your personality it is entertaining anyway. When you make something that's just a plus ☺️

beautyisntperfect: I don't watch your vids because you're productive, I watch them because I think you're funny. You make awesome crafts but like you said, not everything can end in a success!

Kate Reid: Many years ago, I tried to go back to my natural blonde from dark auburn and ended up FLURO ORANGE and fried my hair Then no dye would take on my hair because of how fried it was, so I looked somewhat like an orange tabby with white roots... REGRETS - now I just pay a hairdresser because I don't want to deal with that again lol

Niki inBaltimore: I LOVED the ombre auburn stage right after the stripper. Wow. it really did end up almost the same. BTW, it isn't a waste of time to learn what not to do.

Drucilla Saxton-Wallace: This is an excellent video and I'm very glad you posted it! I've also had hair results that I didn't love and it's nice to know that it's not because I'm a failure, but just because I failed. As always: thank you for the content you create and the work you put in for your channel!

Rachel W: I was definitely one of the ones screaming "STOP!" at the colour before the henna was applied - it was absolutely gorgeous! And then you mentioned doing henna another time...and I nearly shook the bejeezus out of the screen! No more henna, girl - even professional stylists struggle with lifting that But I think the final result is absolutely LOVELY,, and looks more red than you think. You are so well-suited to red tinged locks! Thanks for taking us all along on the journey - it's what makes you so gosh darned loveable! And who amongst us has NOT f*cked around with hair dye at some point?!?

reallifepotato: this video is the biggest mood. i remember using hairdye remover, it stank up our whole house my father closed every single door. it was the worst sewege smell and i only got rid of it from my hair using tomato juice. also i think you can get dark brown in semi-permenant dye, which will certainly be easier to remove.

Melody Main: I've definitely done this a few times. xD I mostly dye my hair at home with box dyes (feel free to yell at me, hairdressers, but it's cheaper and usually works out!) and it's so hard to get it right sometimes.

Hallows Auto: I actually really like the ending color! Every time it caught the light you got this beautiful punch of red mixed in with the darker tones.

Emily DeBerry: Definitely did not waste my time, love your content always. Perfection is overrated. Every single hair color looked great on you anyways

Kaa3acklie: We all fail and it's refreshing to see someone admitting that their journey wasn't perfect.

Elizabeth Somehow: Thank you for the video, it still was very entertaining. Also, I can feel your pain...To be honest I've been watching you and got really inspired to dye my hair red again as well, and also my friend who was all so pretty with red hair just made my decision clear. Oh boy, how hard it is to get to red after being dark, just AAAAAAAA

Bekksplore: Your relationship to your hair is so relatable! I nearly had a meltdown (okay I actually did have the meltdown ) about the amount of regrowth I have and the fact my dyed hair keeps going weird green when I want purple but I have weird trust issues with hair dressers might have to go to my sister's hair shop soon aka her kitchen with the box dyes lolol I just love your content, you are awesome ❤️

SunnyDayle: Ooo! It looks like a lovely auburn for most of the video! Even your end product has a really pretty red cast in the sun! As a naturally auburn gal, I've been considering trying some red henna to get that gingery look. Your bold adventuring into the unknown is giving me a nudge to do it.

AnitaZeta: the fact that she's still put the silly outtakes at the end when the *entire video* is basically a silly outtake, love her

Britney Rezendes: I say embrace the autumnal hedge witch vibe I'm getting. It's definitely red: Just darker red. I personally adore that color, but sun and washes will likely lift it lighter. IDK if it would work, but I know when I want to remove some Arctic Fox from my hair, I switch my normal wash cycles to head and shoulders (the dandruff shampoo) because that's essentially a clarifying shampoo. IDK if it would work with the henna but it might help with a gradual lift instead of a chemical shock. Either way, thanks for the content. it's been a rough week for me and me and my daughter adore watching you and find your stuff so inspiring. So thank you. Take care of yourself.

Netters: I’ve gone through this exact scenario so many times and I did hair dressing for 4 years…. Yes I learned nothing in those years p.s that colour in awesome

Madeleine Price: 19:30 Don’t be anxious your fans love all of your content and I really enjoyed watching this video it felt like a journey and the fact that it didn’t turn out as expected felt all the more relatable and comedic to watch Reminded me of many a time in high school past

Hannah M. Evans: Love the final colour! When I hennaed my hair years ago, I couldn't get a hair salon to touch it with colour for ages if I wanted to go lighter, as the henna reacts with peroxide, so just to say please be careful using box dye in case it has any lightner in it- as i was told it will make your hair 'fizz'! You'll probably find your hair will be glowing red in the sun even if it's darker :)

Kimberly Swanson: I’m glad this video was made it inspired me to keep going with a similar one of my own

Belle Époque Prod.: Girl, I am an hairdresser. Unfortunately I think you need to use bleach… 20 Volume developer will be okay, it don’t have to be much stronger because you don’t have to lift to blonde. Then you can apply the copper box dye or henna, but your hair needs to reach the right level before put anything on it

Purple Moon Cosplay: Honestly, I enjoyed every minute! I mean, if at any time I got bored or felt it was a waste of my time, I could just click off ;) LOL Either way, I completely felt the struggle with you - coloring hair is NOT easy. And may I speak as an expert at NOT being a hairdresser or colorist... you know, as a normal person with no hair training whatsoever: When in the throws of trying to accomplish a certain color or style, we untrained hair miscreants will try any and everything we think will help to reach our hair pigment dreams. I once went to a professional stylist with twenty-eleven years of experience to lift my very black coarse hair to a rich brown color for the fall. She, with all of her experience and knowledge, lifted, lifted, and applied dye to it several times to try to get that color into my strands. All in one day. So... ‍♀ I mean honestly, you did the best you could with the knowledge you had and although it didn't turn out perfectly radiantly red - it is still beautiful. Now you can deep condition and baby the heck out of your strands until you're ready to try again. No harm, no foul. Thank you for sharing even your failures with us... most of us here come for the lols and the reals.

Fishing With Dog: I've learned a lot from this. I love that you are so open about your success and failure. You are such a beautiful person!

Tia Shafee: This was a fun video! My tip for resting is to trick your brain into thinking it is being productive- have a to do list for the day which has some low effort things you can do at home (for me, that's laundry), sitting down jobs like non-work emails, and then some fun things like "start X TV show" or gaming or whatever. Make it an item to tick off the list and you'll watch at least 1 episode or equivalent!

Emelie Waldken: The colour was SO PRETTY just after the box dye !! Also : - Henna can only go darker. - Henna is SUPER DUPER HARD TO REMOVE (especially when many layers). - You cannot bleach on henna. Henna attaches itself to the hair and STAYS.

Gabrielle Szafir: GIRL - NO SUCH THING AS A POINTLESS VIDEO even when it doesn't work out - We're here because we love you and we love watching you - regardless of the outcome! (As a fellow YouTuber I should take my own advice...) heh.

Bethany Runyon: Rachel, I just love spending time with you, even when your experimentation isn't, ya know, entirely successful, I just have a great time getting to experience it with ya.

stargirl101: This still went better than the time i used defective bleach (didn't know it had been recalled rip) and ended up throwing manic panic vampire red on over it when my hair bleached poorly. When I tried to remove the color before my brother's wedding (I really didn't want my mental breakdown immortalized in the photos) it went poorly. Like my hairdresser didn't understand how it was such a bizarre patchy disaster. Shout out to brown hair dye saving the day.

Hollie Reynolds: The very first time I dyed my hair, I spent 4-6 hours meticulously dying it myself--making sure to coat every strand. It was supposed to be a coppery brown...My hair looked EXACTLY the same. I literally sat and cried haha. Afterwards, I dyed it black just to make sure that the color actually showed up on my hair. Turned out to be my favorite hair color on me lol

NumberOnePotato: As soon as I saw the color remover I had to pause the video and comment that I have used that multiple times on my own hair and have found it only removes warmer colors and leaves the cooler colors along with making my hair smell like a junkyard. Then again, I only use semi-permanent colors because I can't make a commitment for that life of me, but I have a tip for getting your hair to smell better if anyone needs help. My tip is that you have to go to a local store that sells shampoo and conditioner and just find the most potent well-smelling one there and use that for about a week or two, and then switch back to your regular shampoo and conditioner and the smell should be gone (if you have trouble with your damaged hair because you bleached it as many times as I have, then I would recommend shampoo and conditioner for curly hair because it will help to fill all of those wholes in your hair with all the oils and stuff in it and make it super soft as well as make it a bit healthier) Sorry about the paragraph I hope this helps anyone who needs it That is all, have a lovely day/night humans

CompuBijou: I was yelling at the beginning, "Follow the instructions and wash your hair!" I've been screwing around with my hair for 24 years, color lifter will lift the dirt as well as the color, so if you have squeaky clean hair, it will only lift color and not dirt. Use two boxes for one application since you have long hair, and do it twice for dark colors. I would give it a couple weeks and let your hair relax, do oil treatments every 5-7 days, that will help the hair and help start pulling the henna out. I'll pray to the All-Hallow gods for you... lol

Courtney Rose Creations: Your hair still looks beautiful ❤️ Before you try the colour lifter, wash your hair with dandruff shampoo and try a bath with lots of Epsom salt (it’s not sodium, it’s magnesium so doesn’t dry the hair). These work great for helping to rinse out pigment

Nickas Serpentarius: I had a very similar journey recently going back to blonde for the first time in years. Trying to lighten brassy tones ended up with blue patches. Then every time I tried to fix it I ended up going bluer and bluer! the struggle is real!

Victoria: Give us a fall/Halloween decorating video girl. Make the work work for you. You don't even need to craft any of it. I'll happily watch you hang spider webs and carve pumpkins forever. SPOOPY TIME LET'S GOOOOOOOO

Eliza Mountain: I'm glad you uploaded! Never second guess yourself. You being you is what everyone loves. I think you going to a salon video would be really cool though!

Michelle Ray: I'm no hairdresser, but I've been around for 63 years, and I've had lots of hair mistakes, so I'd like to suggest using a lemon based dishwashing liquid just for the next few washes. It will strip out some of the color, and you'll have to do some intense conditioning afterwards, but it never failed to strip the color from my hair. Give your hair some time and several washes before you apply anything else to it. You're beautiful no matter what color your hair is.

Lisa LL: i use henna on my naturally dark brown (and silver.....) hair, and it does the same thing. Looks dark brown when indoors/cloudy, and has a red shine (and copper......) under sunlight/bright light. Basically, the color you ended up with at the end. Because henna is more of a glaze than a dye. When your lighter natural hair grows in you'll get the henna-red you were used to. if you want it faster, YES, find someone who knows how to deal with henna because "regular" hair dressers will not be able to deal.

Killamoosdra Ree: You hair came out a beautiful level 3 red. It brought me back to the days when that was my color choice. Because your natural color is blond, you might consider using only semi-permanent or demi-permanent hair colors in the future. Both are much less damaging options with several color options available. They are also much easier to remove when you desire a change. Most box dyes you get at grocery stores and the like contain stronger peroxide than what is needed for someone with blond roots which not only makes them more damaging, but also makes them more difficult to remove later. Henna is the most difficult to remove of all, but can also be considered the least damaging when it does not ever get removed. Color strippers increase hair's porosity temporarily to allow color to escape. Bleach works similarly but is often considered harsher on the hair. I have often found that one application of bleach is less damaging than multiple applications of color stripper. I love the color your hair turned out and hope you decide to keep it!

AoiHana: Rachel, use vitamin c powder with a conditioner. That's what I always use to lift drk colors without damaging them, since it can be usedultiple times. If there is still a lot of residue, then you can use the lifter.

Rainy Jane: Awww, Rachel. You looked great with every iteration! From my experience, color remover CAN work, but you have to use a lot of it to really saturate long and/or thick hair (like 2-3 boxes a lot), ESPECIALLY when lifting as dark a shade as you had; and it really has to be clean to be effective. Color lifter also mostly weakens the bond so the molecules begin to wash out/disappear over the next couple of weeks, so it takes a little time to be 100% there. I’m just glad you didn’t try the whole dawn dish soap plus baking soda plus shampoo thing, which yeah, lifts the color (kinda), but essentially destroys your hair in the process. Still a fun ride through a sequence of troubleshooting attempts all of us who play with color have all been through at one time or another (ands lbr, sometimes more than once)!

Morgan Donner: This is my favorite kind of video! Like a walk in the park, you end up back where you started, but still had fun :D

Sofia: Love how I'm the complete opposite. I've been trying to dye my hair from red to dark brown, but I keep finding hints of red in it :(

Вика Май: I am physically feeling how uncomfortable she is and i can 100% relate to it Thank you

angelica mcnall: Rachel, thank you so much for posting this! I sh*t you not I am literally in the same boat. I've been watching your videos for years now and we both had red hair and went dark around the same time. Two weeks ago I got the urge (I also live in New England) that I need to go back to red. I got the same colorfix from Sally's and got the color to a nice light brown, then I colored over it with a burgundy red/brown and it came out super dark again. I've accepted defeat and will just let it fade and lighten naturally hopefully in time for spooky season. This video made me feel so seen but not alone! We'll be back to red soon!! Thank you for this lol

NoEnvyNoFear1: The take away from this journey, for my brain, is that I should dye my hair with henna again. Yep, that's definitely the lesson here.

drunkhyena: Oo Rachel I feel your pain! The issue is that color does not lift color. So you can put any box dye on the dark parts, it will not get lighter. If I were you I'd go through a couple more color removers, like the one you used. It gets rid of the color buildup, without damaging your hair too much. To get the most out of the color remover, wash your hair with a stripping shampoo (or dish soap) and dry it, no conditioner. The more open your hair cuticle is, the easier the remover can get the c out. Then when it's orangey, put the henna over it again. You can do it!!
