-I am the most fearful about just the whole thing in general, because people are starting to get in my head. They're like ``. Are you sure you want to do that? That doesn't seem like the best choice.'' But deep down? I know I want to do this and it feels right to me. Hello. My name is Chloe Lukasiak and today I am going auburn., But before we get to my transformation subscribe below., So I have wanted to go auburn for about three years now. Every single time. I come to Emily's studio, I'm like ,''. Should we go red today, ?'' Everyone's always discouraged, it. They're, like ``, You are known for your blond hair.'', But I've wanted to do it for so long. And because times are so crazy and I'm just like ,'', I'm young.. Why not ?'' So we're just doing it.? I have always been blond since I was little. And then once I started getting older and my hair started getting a little darker, I started doing like a lot of like blond, highlights and lowlights and just like changing the tone of the blond. So 19 years later And I'm really ready to do something: different. -Hi, my name's Emily Dawn and I'm a hair stylist in Los Angeles.. I started my career working in a salon and now I have this private studio which we are in right. Now.. I'Ve worked with Chloe for six years.. We started doing red-carpet looks. Chloe has been a really fun client to work with in terms of her hair color, because she's, let me do every shade of blond possible on her. And for the last three years. She has been begging me to take her to this auburn color.. She came in she sat down in my chair and I was like ``. Let'S do this. It's your time.'' -I'm like nervous, but it has to be done., I'm so excited. -I'm thinking that we should do this. So it's really dimensional. And I don't want you to feel like you just have red hair.. I want you to feel like you. Have highlights in it still. -Are we're doing it. Are we doing it -We're doing it. We're doing it. [ Screams ] -The mix.? Are you ready, You're sure 100 % [ Exhales sharply ] Yes. -Okay.? I'Ve got three different bowls mixed, so I want to do something that is a bit more of a pop.. So before I apply the root to Chloe's hair, I am going to put a protectant all around the hairline so that she doesn't have a stained auburn forehead.. So I'm going to start with Chloe's root and then I want to freehand paint. So I'm just going to start like pulling different pieces. ♪♪. Next we're going to go to the shampoo bowl and I'm going to apply a gloss.. So I just rinsed out Chloe's. First color gloss - and I just didn't feel like it had enough of that pop., So we're going to go back, we're going to do it again, which is totally fine.. I do this all the time. This time, I'm going to throw a little hint of like a cherry cola color in it, because I want something that has more of that, like red-brown color. All right, I love the color.. I think it's exactly where we need to be.. I don't think we're doing this again.. It looks great. Now I've just blow-dried her entire head. And honestly, it looks like she has a whole new head of hair., I'm going to go through and I'm going to use a flat iron to wand, her hair and I'm going to do different directions to create Waves, so that we get this sort of tousled sexy textured, look at the end of this.. So to complete the transformation. I am going to use an auburn pencil to just give a few little hair strokes and complete the overall look. So her brows look more aligned with her new hair color. -Aah -Are you ready, -Yes. -Are, you ready, -No, [, Laughs, ], -'', No !'', [, Laughs, ] -Yes; yes, yes.! Oh, Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God ♪♪! I am obsessed with my new hair.. This look definitely boosts my confidence.. I just feel like a completely new me.. I'M ready to take on the world. -Chloe's reaction in the mirror was so much better than I anticipated. I mean I knew she was going to be really excited, but again it was a bit of a gamble.. We were doing a huge transformation., So Chloe's reaction was epic., -I love working with Emily, so much.. I love her attention to detail.. I love how much she cares about hair.. Emily did a wonderful job and I'm really happy. We did this.. So I was like really scared that I was going to look in the mirror and not really vibe with it and be like ,'', Ah, maybe I'll get used to it.'' But like as soon as I turned around. I was just like shocked by how much I loved it. -She looks amazing. She looks beautiful and I can tell that she feels really beautiful.. So that is something that is really important to me. Is the confidence level that I have just watched a client walk away. With. -I waited three years to change my hair and I'm really glad I waited, and I really love it now., But if you have a feeling that you should change your hair, just do it. Life is too short. It'll make you feel good. And at the end Of the day it's always hair, so you can change it back or you can cover it up whatever., But live your life. [ Laughs. ]. Thank you for watching Refinery29. Amanda Negretè: She looks beautiful as a redhead. I’ve been a bleach blonde for years and my stylist had to close her salon and move across state to live with family. Very sad as she worked so hard to open her own salon. Her business was extremely successful for a year prior to Covid. Feel so badly her lifelong dream was destroyed due to quarantine and forced isolation. I’ve been to three stylists requesting “strawberry blond with red auburn lowlights”. First try was with an enthusiastic young stylist. I walked out of the salon with a few chunks of an odd grey blond on top of the light blonde I walked in with. Second go a senior stylist at same salon said she “added strawberry blonde/red lowlights” but it looked exactly the same. Third go at a different salon, I walked out with two BIG stripes of copper hair on each side of my head. Looks like a 2 inches of orange paint was applied on each side. I’m afraid if I am assertive with a stylist and insist on having this color hair and even show screenshots I’ll get a full head of unnatural . Her hair is so lovely and after gaining 40 pounds in 2020 I would be so grateful to have a similar change. IDK why numerous stylists who I show pictures of natural strawberry blond and auburn can’t or won’t give me similar color. I WISH I knew how to ask for this kind of “red hair”, but asking for auburn where I live would be considered almost a brown shade. If anyone bothered to read this and could suggest how to request this lovely color I would be very grateful. Thank you in advance.
