Good morning, everybody and welcome to the 95th Academy Awards makeup and hair styling Bake Off the first film we're going to look at is All Quiet on the Western Front. What'S a day in the life of All Quiet on the Western Front you get there. I figure very very early in the morning and every day was like. I started in the night and I finished in the night we had like 200 soldiers every day, then getting the boys ready. Everyone was like wigs of facial hair dirt teeth because we didn't want it to have the white cheese anymore, then getting into our ninja clothes and marching to set basically to the battlefield and what you have seen in front of camera. It looked the same behind the camera foreign to do this movie. You know what it is. So it's not. I wasn't surprised yeah and, I have to say the crew starting from director the camera costume design production design. They were amazing. It was such a collaboration of team, I think otherwise, you can't do that kind of movie. They can give us the power to endure and the strength to fight. Certainly one of the standout makeups in the movie is the Penguin. It'S not a makeup. It'S a complete and utter transformation of Colin Farrell. Can you tell me the Genesis of how that character came about? I looked at it a different perspective. Matt Reeves had some ideas about what the character was, how he was a little bit like Fredo John casale's character from The Godfather. I said: how can I incorporate a penguin in here, so it's the tone of the film was such a realistic. You couldn't go fantasy. You couldn't go Tim Burton, you couldn't do that know my reputation so once you realize that we had the freedom to kind of make like the ultimate penguin that we were really excited to do. We then had to dial in that realism so that it fit in the movie, because none of the other actors in the movie are wearing Prosthetics. I felt like it was kind of a culmination of all the makeups that Mike - and I have done together over the past 10 years and really like using almost every trick in the book that we could possibly think of one of the main things that I think About wakanda forever is that it's a franchise that could have been over. I wouldn't have been here because we lost our star. What kind of movie gets a chance to come back as a rebirth and we got that opportunity and that's the most beautiful thing this movie was all about the women. You see this very few minutes. Actually, the main people are all about the women and it's about their connection, and then we introduced a host of Marvel characters that you get to see. We were really lucky that we had the opportunity to resurrect an old civilization that hasn't been seen on camera. In a really really long time - and we got to create that in the telekinil, they are a Mayan society and we had a professor of Mind, studies who really helped us identify what the looks are and really understanding the culture in itself. Your future, Mr Presley, blazing before you reporting contracts, television, even Hollywood, what a great chance to create these two iconic characters; well, one iconic character and then the villain of the piece. And although Colonel Tom Parker says in the film that he's not the villain of the piece, he definitely is and then really the other bit was Elvis's progression. You know the more Tom Parker got his claws into Elvis it manifested in the way he looked right through where he sings on chain Melody several weeks before he passed away still more a quick quote from director Darren arafnoski. When I decided to do this movie, one of my very first calls after casting Brendan, was to my makeup artist. Adrian Moreau I asked him. Can we do something? That'S incredibly realistic, because if it's not gon na work or look phony, then we shouldn't do it? No pressure, that's the first thing, and then the next thing he said is that I I want to do this in five weeks and I was like okay five weeks. That'S not a whole lot of time because well, by the way, we're gon na see him. Nude he's gon na have short sleeves he's, gon na have short pants, and then I implore them to give us more time and rare things. He actually worked it out with production and we ended up having 12 weeks to build the makeup Sharon had asked. If we could have his hair very thin and every day it was like, I would look at it. I'M like, I think I need to make it thinner and then also trying to be able to make it a progression to show his decline of having heart failure.

Little1Cave: The makeup this year is SO competitive. There’s no one clear front-runner that most people can agree on and I find that exciting. ❤️

Daniel Rodriguez: As much as I love Elvis and the makeup work they did on Austin Butler in particular, there’s no denying The Batman deserves this award hands down. What they did with Colin Farrell as penguin was some of the best makeup work I’ve seen on film in recent years, but I have a feeling they will still award Elvis in the end

Diego Perleche: I don't know who can win, because my favorites are between The Whale and The Batman. Both Brendan Fraser and Colin Farell look unrecognizable and spectacular. But I'm giving it to you for The Whale along with Brendan Fraser's performance.

Beto 17: Please do this for every category. I love videos like this where you can see how things are made

Danny: ELVIS without a doubt !!! On a side note, that footage of unchained melody, the way Austin looks at the camera, you can see so much emotion in his eyes, it's absolutely heartbreaking, he is so massively talented!!!!

Denis: This is such a strong category! First time the Makeup category has been this competitive. In other years any of the nominees could have won.. I am torn between Elvis and All Quiet but I think Elvis since it has won more wins!

mamo: This might be an unpopular opinion due to the divisive nature of the film but I can't help but think the make-up and hairstyling team behind 'Blonde' should also be nominated. Love or hate the film, Ana De Armas' physical transformation into Marilyn Monroe was absolutely astounding to me. There were numerous moments in the film where I couldn't tell the difference between Ana & Marilyn and that's largely due to the amazing team behind all those looks. Bravo to all the nominees regardless!

Melania Monica Craciun: Remarcable achievement indeed, when so many forms of artistic skills are getting together on a movie set, yeah, never stop surprising us in the audience guys

Sharpe: The Makeup category is the most competitive category this year. That hardly ever happens.

Omar Sosa: All of them are amazing. I can't decide. Good luck to everyone.

Phil Sibayan: I hope The Batman gets the award even though I've seen it a hundred of times Colin Farrell is unrecognizable

Kendall Bald: The Batman deserves this award

A Qualcuno Piace Classico: The category is quite great this yeat, I say quite because of Elvis, which had great hairstyling but not great make up, especially the prosthetic of Tom Hanks. His latex was literally melting. The best prosthetic is the one of the whale, Morot is a genius, he did a great job with mother! and he practically topped himself with The Whale. Again people, make up is not about making people unrecognizible, it is about telling the story through the make up. AQOTWF and The Whale are the ones that achieved that. I hope one of them, or even both, wins.

Psicologia UH Puntarenas: Although The Batman deserved to win more in this category, but they are going to give it to Elvis, he already won the Critics Choice Award and the BAFTA, and has won the Oscar automatically.

S: If you just see the sheer amount of different Elvis hairstyles they nailed for Butler alone, and maintained them throughout the dancing, singing, sweating and for 3 decades makes Elvis more deserving. And then there was the entire cast they had to perfect, Elvis definitely did the best job amongst the rest.

tellybolly: One of us going to win an Oscar one day❤️✨all the best to all of you ❤️✨

Owen: I would vote Tom Hanks make up for the colonel as some of the worst makeup I've ever seen in a film. Ever. Please don't let it win.

Emilio Bello: Beast deserved a nomination here with how they made the scratches and gore

Melvin Soo: Colin Farrell was unrecognizable as Penguin. The Batman should win this hands down.

Mickia Major: Tough one for me. Whoever wins deserves it.

Celtic DW: What they did to Brendan Fraser's character..............The Whale should win. It would either be between them and Elvis! You can't deny Elvis!

Darius Sale Petru: I think Elvis will win (after won Critics Choice and BAFTA) but The Batman should win

Adolfo Pena: How did All Quiet on the Western Front get snubbed for Best Director? I'd pick it over Triangle of Sadness.

Mazharul Islam: All Quiet On the Western Front!

Willian Luiz: People who think the Batman deserve the Win don't know shit and is only wishing the movie tho Win because on being fanboys, they have Collin only whit makeup and hair, for a 3H movie you have only 1 character and you wanted the movie to Win ? Be serious right now.

dobazajr: I have no idea the makeup artists for The Batman are hot guys.

Ketan: The Batman

Coach Bert: #1 The Batman

Mary V.: The Whale should!!

ᑕᒪIᑭՏ: Wow what a makeup

Anthony Martensen: Is Adrian Morot played by Rafe Spall?

tech2017: As much as The Whale master Fraser's make up, I could always tell that that was Brendan Fraser in a fat suit. That said Colin Farrell looked unrecognizable as the penguin. THE BATMAN should win this category.

Richard Hannay: Batman

Lets watch : Elvis

Mauricio Ramirez: Dude if All Quiet wins, that would be criminal, dude just wore clay on his face, the rest I’ve seen before in war films. Batman, Whale and Elvis are superb, personally Whale is the most realistic make up, and Batman has the best face prosthetics, Elvis shines with the hairstyles but the face prosthetics are not as good as Batman’s or even Whale

Amaravati Now: RRR
