How To Do Finger Coils On 4C Natural Hair

Apparently, finger coiling is POSSIBLE on 4c hair. Finger coils in general is a really stylish and unique style, and for those of you who do not know what finger coiling is it is simply forming curls in your hair using your fingers. Most natural hair women rock this style during their TWA (teeny weeny afro) days, but very many with medium to long hair rock this style without any issues as well.

I, myself, rock the finger coils now that I have done the big chop again. Honestly, I was excited that I was able to do so because when my hair was longer, finger coils were far more time consuming and difficult. My hair texture is a mixture of 4a, 4b, and 4c, so when the 4c area seems a bit “crusty” during my other styles, I definitely hit it with quick finger coil motion to form a curl.

Meet YouTuber Jouelzy. This is an older video of her sharing her finger coiling method on her 4c hair. Jouelzy started off with freshly washed and detangled hair to which she then applied a moisturizer.

To begin the style, you need a really great styler, the styler will allow the coils to hold as you twirl your finger. In the video Jouezy twirled her hair around her index finger with the support of her thumb, she continued that process until she was done.

Applying Argan Oil* to seal the moisture and clipping down the coils will help them to hang in the direction you want. It took Jouelzy 3 hours to complete this style. When completely dry, separating the curls gives you a more full look!

For longer hair

If you have longer hair, you can do the same technique just ensure that you hold the hair in place with your thumb and index finger on one hand while coiling with the other hand. We would also suggest using a styler with a pretty strong hold so that your hair does not unravel.
