You’ve been wrapping your hair up for years. Your momma wrapped you and your sister’s hair, your grandmama wrapped up your momma’s hair, and many, many women before that in your family have been wrapping their hair.

Wrapping your hair up at night is literally “tradition”. Whether you use a bonnet, scarf, or satin pillow case, you have been wrapping your hair up every night to keep your hair intact and healthy.

I would even see a few memes of women with their scarves and bonnets on, saying that they don’t play about their hair when it comes to sleeping. There is this one meme with a woman in her bonnet saying, “If you haven’t seen her in one of these [bonnet] y’all ain’t real yet!” I wonder, is that true?

Your man may not understand why you continue to wear your scarf to bed or wear your bonnet around the house as soon as you get home.

He definitely wants you to succeed at your goals with your hair as he is your cheerleader in your corner. But! What about at night when your man is feeling some lovemaking is about to happen or that he just wants to spend time with you by playing board games and cards, would you take your scarf off for him?

You may think it is silly for me to ask this question or for you to keep your scarf on if your man says “please take it off for me,” but some women do not give in to that notion.

Instead of thinking, “It’s my hair and I do what I please,” or “he’s just gonna have to love me in my scarf or leave me, deuces!” Try these tips to do a little “give and take” when it comes to the love for your bonnet and the love for your man:

Just take it off when it’s just you two at home

You don’t have to go straight for the bonnet after work. If you have an out style, do a cute bun or a pineapple to keep your hair up, but sexy. Your man may love that style and your hair is out of the way and no manipulation is involved.

Leave it off until he falls asleep

If you two are enjoying a movie in bed, just leave your bonnet off. When lovemaking is about to happen just leave your bonnet off for him to enjoy all of you.

Then just put it on after he falls asleep. Make sure you have your bonnet on the nightstand or under your pillow so you don’t forget to put it on. You don’t want to get into the habit of falling asleep without your bonnet on and end up saying to yourself that you messed up your progress trying to be all cute for your man,  then blame any reprecussions of going sans bonnet on him.

If you must have something on your head, use different scarf aids

Purchase a cute scarf that you think your man will like. Try something different instead of the of the black or brown scarf you use to wrap your hair at night.

Now that it is springtime going in to the summer, get something with bright colors or flowers on it to make it look like an accessory instead of a dingy rag on your head.

How about that sexy turban? Turbans have become all the rave as accessories for cute outfits while going to work or just going out to the mall with your girls. Use your same turbans that you wear for the day and wear them to bed. They will protect your hair and they are just too cute not to have one. Your man will definitely appreciate the change.

Use a satin pillow case to change things up. Personally, I change to a satin pillowcase* as it’s getting warmer so I won’t be too hot at night or sweat my hair out trying to keep my hair protected.

If you are comfortable sleeping without your scarf or bonnet, trade it for a silk or satin pillow case. Not only will your hair be protected, but your man can see that you are trying to do some “give and take” for him. However, you could be trading your bonnet in for a satin pillowcase* just for you. At this point, he doesn’t know you are using this special pillowcase for your hair. But, let him think this is all for him.

Wear a sexy outfit with your cute sleeping aid

There’s nothing like a woman in some sexy lingerie to keep her man gazing at her. If your man is not bothered by your wearing your scarf to bed, but loves you in some sexy pieces for bed, then try that! He would definitely appreciate the effort and the very stimulating change .

Ladies, just remember that your hair is not going to fall out right when you get home or when your man wants to spend time with you.

Do something different for him every now and then. If need be, tell him why you sleep with your scarf and bonnet if he’s wondering about it. If he truly loves you, he will understand why you sleep with it, but give him room to tell you about his wants and needs too.

This may be your healthy hair journey, but you are also in a relationship. It really doesn’t have to be that hard, just take your bonnet off for him.
