Grocery List For An All Natural Ayurvedic Hair Growth Regimen

Grocery List For An All Natural Ayurvedic Regimen

Having healthy beautiful hair is at the top of the list for most people, and a lot of them are finding ayurvedic remedies to be quite powerful. If you’re looking for a way to push aside chemical products, then ayurveda is most definitely a great alternative.

Whether you’re trying to grow your hair long, restore its health or just maintain a beautiful mane, natural ingredients are key.

Unlike with store-bought chemical treatments, you don’t have to worry about potential side effects. Nature is my go-to grocery store, but since I can’t find these ingredients in my backyard, I turn to health stores and Indian shops that sell them. If you’re planning to do the same thing, here’s a shopping list you can use.

Indian Gooseberry

This is one of my favorite ingredients, not only for my hair, but my body as well. I like to add this powder to my smoothies.

I find that focusing on the inside and outside at once is the best for my hair. Indian gooseberry, also known as amla* or amalaki, can be used in a variety of ways. My favorite way to use it is as a shampoo, which can be created as a tea rinse, added to a soap bar or used as a paste.

Kehraj

This herb, also known as Eclipta Alba or False Daisy, is very popular throughout Thailand, China, Brazil and India. It offers a variety of benefits for your hair, including promotion of growth and prevention of hair loss.

It is packed with flavanoids, saponins, glycosides, alkaloids and so on, which all aid in hair growth. It helps increase your hair length by inducing the anage phase within your hair follicle when it’s at the telogen stage, which is when the follicles are no longer growing.

Chinese Hibiscus

The flowers and leaves of this plant are used as a hair conditioner, which help to promote hair growth and combat hair fall issues. You simply boil the leaves and use the solution to rinse your hair. It also makes your hair silky and smooth. I like to add hibiscus* to my herbal shampoos with amla* and shikakai*.

Spiked Ginger Lily Oil

The oil from the rhizomes of this plant is extracted and distilled, then used for promoting hair growth. It’s filled with antioxidants and has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Rosemary

Surely, you’re familiar with this herb, which works very well for treating alopecia and strengthening the hair, so that it can grow. It also softens and nourishes your hair.

Rosemary* can be purchased as an essential oil and added to your tea rinses, shampoos and conditioning treatments. It will help to improve circulation in your scalp and it also restores hair shafts.

soap nutsSoap Nut

Also known as aritha* or reetha. This is actually a berry, not a nut, and is commonly used in India as a shampoo. It acts as a natural cleanser or detergent (I also use it to do my laundry and wash dishes).

It can help with treating skin and scalp disorders, such as dandruff. It’s also an excellent tonic and helps to get rid of fungal and microbial issues. You’ll find this commonly mixed together with shikakai* and amla*.

Sesame Seed Oil

Another great oil to add to your hair growth regimen. The oil from sesame seeds are very nourishing and is high in vitamin E*. It’s excellent at combating hair fall and keeping your scalp moisturized, conditioned and hydrated. If you’d like to keep your hair black, this will help with that as well.

Bhringaraj

This herb is oftentimes referred to as the king of herbs in ayurveda and for good reason. It offers so many hair and scalp benefits, including enhancing hair growth, preventing premature graying and hair fall and nourishing your hair and scalp for ultimate health.

You can easily make a paste with the leaves or powder form of the herb. Allow it to sit on your hair for about 20 minutes before washing it out. Doing this regularly will help with hair growth. You can also mix this with amla*, shikakai* and aritha*.

Methi

Also known as the miracle herb, methi is popularly used as a hair growth remedy. Simply grind up the herb and make a paste with it. Just like with the bhringaraj, you allow it to sit on your hair for 20 minutes before rinsing it off.

Brahmi

The powder and oil form of this herb are both excellent for hair growth. Just like with the other ayurvedic powders, you make it into a paste and allow it to sit on your hair for 20 minutes.

As an oil, you apply it as a hot oil treatment, massaging it into your scalp. It will help to improve circulation in your scalp, which aids in hair growth. Over a period of months, you will notice your hair growing faster, thicker and longer, and there should be less hair fall. It also helps to eliminate dandruff.

With this grocery list, you should be able to conjure up all-natural shampoos, conditioners and oil treatments to help give you the long, healthy hair that you desire so much!
