Steps:

1. Pick up a small section of hair that is causing bulk over your extension layer.

2. Position the section of hair in an upward direction.

3. Use thinning shears and make three cuts near the top third of the hair.

4. Comb out the ends, and lay it back down into position.

5. Move to subsequent sections and continue this process until the shelf is blended.

A common problem when installing extensions is when your upper layer of your natural hair creates a shelf above where your extensions fall.. In order for your extensions to be believable, this shelf will have to be erased and blended into the extension hair.. Let'S take a look at how that is done., So we need to take this entire area above where that shelf lives.. So everything over those extensions., You are going to hold them straight. Up. Use the thinning shears and we are going to create one two: three lines. Going to comb out that hair. Move over to our next section.: Lift everything up. Same deal., One two: three cuts. With your initial cuts in place, smooth in out and take a look.. If you can see any spots that need any additional thinning, go ahead and lift it up and repeat., And you are going to do this until your shelf is completely blended., And that is how you eliminate your upper shelf.

Doctored Locks: Absolutely! Curly hair is awesome in that it is far more forgiving. The texture tends to hide any otherwise obviously jagged ends. You can follow the same procedures for straight hair and have fantastic results!

Doctored Locks: Thread techniques definitely work - my favorite is the Linkies Track Weave - you can check our video on that method if you are curious. If they don't stay put (not counting grow out) then its a technique issue.

Doctored Locks: I'm also planning on putting a rubberband underneath the SE attachment point so that the extension doesn't slip down the dread. If they are tight enough, they shouldn't slip past that point, but if there are any issues with slippage, I may do some simple thread work to tie an anchor to the dread and just above the rubber band. Hopefully this helps you a little bit in the meantime. :)

Ashlein Quiroz: This is very helpful thank you!!

Gina Monh: Thank you so much for sharing this video. I have a super uneven haircut which looks like a bob on the left side while the back part and right side are super long :((

Hannah walker: I have professional thinning shears (Shark fin shears) and I'm in beauty school. I have this problem from growing out a bob and my extensions don't quite blend. Could I (carefully) try this out on myself or would you recommend going to a stylist to have this done?

Christie Johnson: Would this work if you had a layered cut and trying to blend into long extensions? Im currently growing out the dreaded pixie cut and my hair is about 3 inches long and layered. Ive had every salon in town say its to short for tape in or glue in extensions as it will look like a mullet..:(

Doctored Locks: I don't have any videos on it - but I did add it to our list of videos to make, as its actually something I've been meaning to do to my own hair. :) Basically, what I'm planning is to take some single enders and thread the natural dread through the top loop and band it off. I'll use rubber bands to tighten off the SE loop (if they arent' too distracting to look at - thread if the color is totally wrong).

Luzia Silva: Perfeito

Doctored Locks: The most common problem with sewn weaves is the stylist not anchoring the base track properly. An example would be if a stylist just sewed directly into natural braids - these will tend to bunch and slip if the braids have not been anchored with thread or braiding hair. To anchor, the thread or braiding hair is braided by itself for several tiny turns before the cornrow or scalp braid is started.

Doctored Locks: Base tracks created with Linkies don't have this issue as each bead is secured by tension itself. I'm looking forward to seeing your video. Be sure to send us a link!

DollsbyDaniel: What about curly hair? if you have curly hair? could you make videos on curly hair extensions?

Lacie Hamblin: Thank you!!!!

Doctored Locks: You are very welcome! :)

Melissa: Perfect.
